Dear House,

Can anyone share experience on speaking at Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi. I will be be having my on 14/04/2018.Time: 1:40pm

Thanks
My venue for the Speaking exam was also Colonades so I can relate.
-Be calm, this is maybe the most important thing
-Your invigilator will most likely be Nigerian and will probably have a fake British accent and talk with a sing-song voice, but do not let that throw you off. You do NOT need to fake an accent
-Pay attention to your pronunciations, especially word endings e.g. “that” should not be pronounced as “tha”
-If your exam is so close, you probably know the format already, 1st(introduction) 2nd(1-2min speech) and 3rd(Related or General follow up questions to section 2)
-It’s normal to be nervous just before you start, ease into it in your section one, the introduction, the questions are quite generic “Tell me about yourself and where you grew up” (Personally, I went in to the exam with a few ideas on what to talk about, my parents, siblings, the neighborhood I Grew up in..etc. that way my response was structured and coherent)
-You don’t need to use big vocabulary, use words you’re comfortable with it, the examiner can easily tell you don’t know the true meaning of a word
-I don’t think you lose marks for stuttering, they understand you may be nervous, don’t let it bother you, just be sure to correct any words you pronounced incorrectly or wasn’t audible
-I didn’t speak up to 2 mins in my section 2, I talked for about 1:30s, I didn’t think I had to, I felt I addressed the subject matter adequately. I am not sure it affected my score. I got 7.5

All the best

Hahahahaha Laminara abi Lamination needs to take a queue from Ysteph.

His writing was so disjointed, the thing was painful in the eyes. Like a high school student. No wonder his CRS was 460. Dude must be 12 cheesy cheesy

He will get 441 with 7.5S 8.5L 8.0R 7.5W I just re-checked.
My application is similar to this, 28years, single, BSC, 3 years experience, maxed out IELTS. My CRS is 441

I suppose a good number of applicants have a similar scenario; Under 30, with no M.Sc. If When the CRS drops to 441, I expect to see a lot of ITA posts on this thread. LOL

Its best the gift deed come from a family member as it raises no red flag.
Thanks for your response, Yes I will get the deed from my brother but does it matter if I get the gift after getting ITA

Hi guys, Weldone on the knowledge shared here.

I expect my WES ECA to be completed next week, my CRS will be 441. POF is the only issue I have not tackled completely. I will be getting a gift deed of about 60% from a direct family member.
Q. Does it matter if the gift comes before OR after getting an ITA i.e it would be more convenient to get the funds in May/June but trends suggest CRS scores should dip this month. I would not want to miss out on that because POF

Favoredme:
1. Yes, IRCC requirement is a reference letter from your financial institution.
2b. You do not need to submit her statement of account.

You can write an LOE and do a table of your total POF as the 1st page in your POF PDF file for easy understanding by the VO (that was exactly what I did).

I did not submit my salary account statement. I submitted only a joint account statement of account and FD certificate with the bank's reference letter.
Oh great! Thanks for the tip

Hello All,

Please I have a question about POF, Mutual Funds and Gift of deeds. From my research on this thread I’ve picked up a few things, please highlight any inconsistencies.
1. Most of my savings is in Mutual funds, my salary account is mostly empty save for monthly living costs. I believe I can submit just a reference letter from my Fund managers (ARM) as POF, they can also provide a Statement of Account (without submitting my salary account SOA?)

2. My savings would make up for about 50% of POF, I plan to use a gift of deed letter from my blood sister to complete the rest. I will get the deed notarized and also submit a bank statement/email alert showing the inflow.

Will that be sufficient or will I need to show that she is capable of gifting me said funds, maybe by attaching her statement of Account.?

Many thanks for your responses

Kontagious:
Let's be conscious of answers we give, especially when it carries so much authority.

There was a similar case mentioned on the previous thread, poster got reference letter from his line head, but confirmation went direct to the company's HR (probably gotten from their website) with the line head in copy. Case got a bit complicated as HR was said to not likely respond, and line head too wouldn't even dare respond to that particular mail.

I can't recollect the end of that case.

cc: Clock89, please be guided.
Oh wow, thanks. I will proceed with caution

Hi all. I have a question about background checks...I work at the Nigerian Arm of a multi-national company with its HQ in the US. I intend to get an employer reference from my direct manager (he’s cool with it) to submit with my application. Only problem is that HQ might not be too enthusiastic about me leaving them.

Question: will CIC use the contact details on the letter (my manager’s) if they have to OR can they go to my company website and call the HQ to do a background check?

No feedback still. I don't think I should be expecting any too. Considering they've conducted tests for the role already
