Femmy,

Can a 1996 or 1997 registered car in the UK be cleared in Nigeria?

How much would it be to clear a gold 3 and golf 4 car?

How much would it cost to clear a honda accord 'addidas', 1999-2000 model, and an Honda accord 'EOD' UK version, 2.0 and 2.4 ltrs.

And a Nissan Almera 2000/2001 model all shipped on Grimaldi RORO from Tilbury port.

Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

Travel / Re: Nigeria High Commision In London by cmax16: 10:23pm On Jun 19, 2013
eyejae: Just got my new passport. The process was very easy, except it involved me travelling twice to London.

Because I got little or no info online on how to go about the renewal, I've decided to tell my own experience. Perhaps it could help someone.

These are the documents I took to my first appointment:

1) Copy of my completed and signed online application form
2) Copy of my acknowledgement slip
3) Copy of my payment confirmed slip
4) My old passport
5) £20 Postal order
6) 2 photos

Contrary to the info on the application form, there is no need to take 2 photos. This is because the HC would take your picture and biometrics there.

Very important: you have to go on the date of your appointment (as stated in your application form), whether or not that date is after the expiry date on your passport.

I arrived at around 9:45am on the day of my appointment. There was a queue, but it moved very quickly. Some1 at the entrance checked my forms, and particularly highlighted my appointment date. Then, I was directed to a large room, where I was given a ticket number and simply waited until my number was called.

When called, I presented those documents I've listed and then waited again until I was called to go upstairs to do my biometrics + photo.

After this I was given another appointment date for the collection of my new e-passport.

Very easy process. It took about 2 hours on my first appointment, and less than 45 minutes on my next.

By the way, I got this extra info from 1 of the officials there:

Those who are under 18 would need to include a guarantor’s form filled by their parents/guardian. They also have to include a photocopy of the guarantor’s passport data page.

Also, very important: if you already have a Nigerian passport and you did not get it in the UK, they would check for your visas. If they don't find any visa, they would ask you how and where you got your passport.

There’s 1 more point that was made about the passport for another category of people. Unfortunately, I do not remember it right now.

So, this is my experience. Hope it helps someone.

Cheers

babs2aroks: Frenchbase I guess its just a deal gone bad...the car was intended for personal use...I drive a toyota camry and I wanted a 2nd car to flog around...not a car dealer.

I prefer Amercian Imports.406 is the only car I could get from europe.I'll just locally source for another one.
There's no way I'll be able to wait for another one coming from france

I just bumped into this thread, though old, i couldn't but feel for babs. Fact is, Frenchbase is the owner of the car, (unless you probably bought it for your brother who is the owner) he (Yinka) doesn't have any business arranging for another seller other than to follow your instructions to the latter; which was seller to a customer you had already agreed price with...a deal is a deal, unless for few hundred thousand naira extra you would want to ruin your reputation. A happy customer online would most likely recommend much more customers to you than you could ever imagine.

Car from France? it look from the shipping document that the car was loaded in Antwerp...isn't that Belgium? just asking.

udokpuenyi: Apart from specifying the yr/model of the car you intend to convert to LHD, pls specify the color of your interior, that is a determining factor when searching for the dashboard

If this 2.4 , the price is 200k, it is a straight job

How much would it cost to change a BMW 7 series (e38) 1999 model from RHD to LHD? how long would the lead time be? (stay in your garage)

things come into play when converting this car

1. A dashboard with its hanging beam
2.steering column (hand gear)
3. New wiper stick
4.New doormat (not always)
5. The wiring materials will be provided by the auto electrician doing the wiring

While converting this car, you can refurbish the dashboard HANGING BEAM if your have a good panel man, buy new wiper stick , may or may not change the two door mats but you cannot avoid buying the upper steering column. The conversion cost is relatively 300k if you want to replace all needed parts

Car Talk / Re: What's The Big Deal With Learning Driving Using Auto? by cmax16: 11:19pm On Jan 09, 2013
bamto:
Well, that won't help much. Infact, they tell me just the opposite.

I feel compelled to contribute. Never lay claim to anything if you don't have first hand experience. considering you learnt with an auto, i don't expect you to come out here and say "hey! manual is the best!" but let me tell you, you are likely to find as many vehicle in manual tranny as an auto in Europe. I can not say the ratio exactly, but a simple search on autotrader.co.uk on vehicles would show you the picture. for the records, i live in the UK.

I learnt to drive with a manual shaft, have never looked but since then. I can drive an auto without any ado. Meanwhile, in the UK, you are not permitted to drive a manual car if you hold an automatic license, you would be deemed to have broken the law. But with a manual license, you are allowed to drive an automatic car...tells it all.
