The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, has backed the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, for the Nigerian Presidency in 2023.

The Olubadan expressed his support while receiving members of the Tinubu Vanguard, a support group for Tinubu’s presidency project in Ibadan on Saturday.

The Director-General of Tinubu Vanguard, Dr Johnny Benjamin, said this in a statement on Saturday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Olubadan described Tinubu as a good man whose stewardship as president would consolidate on the progressive agenda of the APC and propel Nigeria to the path of economic prosperity and sustainable development.

“Tinubu is a good man and I will do everything within my power to support his candidacy for the 2023 presidential poll,” he said.

The director-general said that representatives of Tinubu Vanguard were at the palace to intimate the Ibadan paramount ruler of their intention to deliver a Tinubu presidency in 2023, and to solicit his royal blessing.

Benjamin added that the group was committed to ensuring that the Tinubu presidential mandate was actualised in the interest of national unity and cohesion.

A Fulani cattle rearer from Sokoto, Mallam Altine, who was married to an Igbo woman, Esther Ozueh, was elected for two terms.

In his first term, he had run as an NCNC candidate but in the build-up to the elections for his second term, the NCNC asked him to step down for another candidate but he refused and was forced to resign from the NCNC.

Nevertheless, he ran as an independent candidate and defeated the NCNC candidate, D.T Inyang, by 117 to 53 votes. In fact, in his ward, he was returned unopposed.

Thus, a Fulani man from Sifawa, in the then Sokoto Province, almost 700 miles from the Eastern Region, who had lived in Enugu for less than 5 years, became the first Mayor of the Capital of the Eastern Region.
