A cafe owner who gave food to a homeless Swedish man who borrowed a chair has grabbed headlines after a guest shared his gesture on social media.

Adam Mahdi began chatting to the elderly homeless man after he grabbed a chair from the restaurant in central Stockholm and put it in the middle of the street in order to sit in the sunshine.

Rather than getting angry at the guest, who had not bought anything from the Green Smile cafe, he asked the man in English if he would like a meal.

"I went out myself and I said 'hello how sir you doing?' First he became angry and said that I had to talk Swedish," Mahdi told The Local, explaining that he did not speak much Swedish because most customers were happy to talk to him in English.

However after Mahdi offered the Swede some food for free, the pair sat and chatted about life while the homeless man ate.

"I told him I don't want you to pay, I just want you to be happy (...) A few people left the restaurant because I let him in, but I wanted him to feel important," said the restauranteur.

"It's not the first time I have done stuff like this. It is just my job. They come to the door, I respect them and I give them food," he said.

But he added that he had previously been sacked from service jobs in the US and Sweden for handing out food for free.

His gesture took place on Monday, with a photo of the owner helping the guest later going viral after it was shared by another of the cafe's customers.

"Had been able to recommend it for the food, but do it instead now for the good-hearted Palestinian, who came to Sweden via New York," posted Behrang Behdjou.

The guest added that the cafe was a "really good salad bar with awesome falafel".

At least 2000 people are officially registered as homeless in Stockholm, mostly men aged between 45 and 65. The figure includes those living in government-assisted apartments but excludes migrants from elsewhere in the EU or further afield.

Mahdi said that the homeless man he helped had said he was originally from Östermalm, which is one of the richest districts in the capital.

Pardon me Nairalanders,

I m not a good writer, I'll start here sometimes in 1998 my dad turned my mum into a punching bag and he sent her packing accusing her of outshining him, as an 11 year old first son of my mum I took her side because the beating was too much. I figured out mum was seeing another man.

I don't know who advised mum, but she went to court to seek divorce papers, so court dissolved the marriage. I was almost graduating from my primary school then. I started missing mum on my graduation day, only dad was there, mum had left with my 2 younger siblings. Shortly after the divorce, mum re-married to another.

Our family is Muslim family as my mum was the second wife, the first wife also left him (I was too young to understand reason for divorce) , now he started bringing in different women home to the one room apartment he occupied in his uncle's place more than 35 years ago (he is still in that house currently here in xyz state).

As day goes by, I and my younger sister with him were going to school till we both graduated from high school, the other two also graduated but the story didn't end well with them as they are currently baby mama. Only immediate sister got married and is with her husband.

Being the only male child, I had to leave house and hussle, I have worked in several odd places you could ever think of. I was able to gain admission into the university but my other siblings could not, except immediate younger sister who gained admission into one part-time school like that. Along the hussling line my spirit was broken by the happening in my family and was constantly been molested, as no one was home to supervise me while I was home, the older boy Musa in my house took advantage of me. (I hope I can forgive my parents)

Life continued, I graduated with a good grade, not the course I really wish to study though, I currently live and work in xyz state. And here is my confusion, my dad and mum still separated wants me to be calling them often, each time I give them a call, they'd questioned why didn't you call me earlier (selfish ). They don't even know where I work, talk less of where I live. Though they supported while I was in the university, but I still hussled to get school fees paid. I guess they want share returns (angry)

Nairalanders, I have seen people of wisdom here, which is why I am pouring out my mind and my life story, though some part are shameful reason why I did not shed more light. So please advice me because I feel like forgetting my parents and just keeping in touch with my immediate sister. Not the ones that grew up with mum cos they are disappointments.

With this experience, I naturally don't feel like getting married.

Should Muslims Show Kindness to Parents?

The Quran exhorts believers, in fact mankind in general, to be kind to parents:

Your Lord has enjoined you to worship none but Him, and to show kindness to your parents. If either or both of them attain old age in your dwelling, show them no sign of impatience, nor rebuke them; but speak to them kind words. Treat them with humility and tenderness and say: ‘Lord, be merciful to them. They nursed me when I was an infant.’ S. 17:23-24

The fact that the command to be kind to one’s parents is repeatedly listed right after the central command of Islam, to worship none but Allah, gives special emphasis to it and can only mean that this command is to be taken very seriously. Furthermore, the Quran repeats this command in various ways in several other passages:

(We enjoined man to show kindness to his parents, for with much pain his mother bears him, and he is not weaned before he is two years of age. We said: ‘Give thanks to Me and to your parents. Period sex. A monthly delight or something to be entirely avoided and never spoken of?

According to the Facebook comments on our recent post about a tampon you can wear during sex, it’s a serious debate.

For some reason, loads of men and women think period sex is ‘gross’, ‘disgusting’, and ‘nasty’.

Which is pretty infuriating, to be honest, because all this squeamishness is just reinforcing the idea that periods are disgusting and shameful, and that – in effect – women’s bodies are, too.

We get that having sex on your period isn’t for every woman. Maybe your PMS doesn’t put you in the mood. Maybe you can’t relax because you’re too worried about spills. Maybe you’ve got crisp white bedsheets.

But if it is something you’re open to, DO IT. There is no reason not to, and so, so many reasons to back up why period sex is a glorious thing.

1. It’s rarely as messy as you think

Unless you have extremely heavy periods, you’re very unlikely to end up in the pool of blood-stained sheets you’re imagining in your mind.

The average amount of blood released during menstruation is between 30 and 40ml. That’s over the course of a few days.

So imagine how little blood is actually being released per minute. Then consider how long your sex session is actually going to last. Hardly any blood. Seriously.

2. And if you do make a mess, you can always clean it up

Lay down an old blanket if it makes you less concerned about stains, and throw any bloody sheets in the wash immediately afterwards. Easy.

3. A reminder: it’s just blood. Nothing bad will happen if it gets on a guy’s dick

It’s not a toxic substance that will transform your sex buddy into PERIODMAN: DEFENDER OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS AND DISTRIBUTOR OF TAMPONS (although that would be seriously cool).

8. Getting it on can actually shorten your period

All the contracting your uterus gets up to when you’re having an orgasm makes lining and blood come out faster, meaning that frequent sex sessions can reduce the length of your period by a day or two.

9. We’re usually hornier around our periods

Why are we skipping something we really, really want because we’re scared of a little blood?

Admit it, you’re Hot as f*** when your period hits. Give in to what you want. Treat yourself.

Arabic is set to overtake Finnish as Sweden's second largest language spoken as a mother tongue, according to a new survey.

Alarms raised as Copenhagen prostitutes expand territory

There are now so many foreign women working as prostitutes in Copenhagen that the sex trade has expanded beyond its traditional locales in the city and into more visible and tourist-packed areas, organizations helping the sex workers have said.

The groups Hope Now and Reden International told Politiken that increased competition amongst street prostitutes has led them to offer their services beyond Istedgade in the Vesterbro district, which has been the most popular place for prostitutes for years.

The sex workers are now also found at the Town Hall Square and the pedestrian street Strøget, both major draws for tourists, as well as busy streets such as Gammel Kongevej, leading local politicians to appeal to the national government for help.

When it spreads this much, there is clearly not enough being done to fight prostitution and to help these women, who are controlled by organizers in their home countries,” Sisse Marie Welling of the Socialist People’s Party, who sits on Copenhagen’s health committee.

She accused the national government of “closing its eyes to the problems that come with street prostitution”. Because prostitution laws are made at the national level, Welling said only parliament can do something about the problem.

Organizations that work with Copenhagen prostitutes said that “raw capitalism” has forced them to expand their territory in the city.

“Right now we are seeing a very saturated market where there are not enough customers for the women,” Reden International’s Kira West told Politiken.

“We can see that there are more prostitutes coming now because the women are spreading themselves [across the city] because there aren’t enough customers,” she added.

West said that most of the prostitutes working the Copenhagen streets come from either Nigeria or Eastern Europe. They are often brought to Denmark by financial backers who they then need to pay off.

They become desperate when they can’t earn enough money and therefore they’ll offer more for a cheaper price. The obvious example is to do it without a condom or to do things that cross their personal boundaries that they would normally say no to,” West said, adding that the women have also become more aggressive in their pursuit of potential customers.

Selling and purchasing sex is legal in Denmark and Jakob Engel-Schmidt, a spokesman for the ruling Venstre party, said the government has no current plans to change the laws, which already ban human trafficking and profiting off of sex workers.

Engel-Schmidt did say that the more the public hears about the conditions faced by prostitutes, the less likely men are to pay for their services.

I have always considered myself to be a person who tries to get the best out of anything. I love those hacks that I see on the internet, but I have never expected to see a hack that included Vicks VapoRub. I thought that it could be used only in treating coughs and colds. After a local politician for the far-right NPD seriously injured himself in a car crash last week, two Syrian refugees came to his rescue.

Stefan Jagsch was Spitzenkandidat (lead candidate) for the NPD in recent local elections in Altenstadt in the state of Hesse, Frankfurter Rundschau reports.

According to his party, Germany’s asylum laws have allowed criminals to flood the country.

Election posters focused on foreigners and their alleged criminality with slogans such as ‘If Ali is a criminal send him back home pronto!” or “For a safe life end the flood of refugees.”

The NPD managed to win as much a 10.6 percent of the vote in the town of Büdingen, which lies next to Altstadt.

But in an irony which will surely not pass over the head of the NPD politician himself, Jagsch was saved by the very foreigners he wants to keep out of Germany, when two Syrians found his car wrapped around a tree after a high speed crash.

Police report that the 29-year-old was driving to Büdingen at around 9 o’clock in the morning when his car came off the road for as yet unexplained reasons.

The collision with the tree left him seriously injured.

The first people to the scene were a group of asylum seekers who were travelling by bus along the same road.

Two Syrians pulled Jagsch from the wreckage and administered first aid treatment until the first ambulance arrived. The NPD man was then brought to hospital.

Far-right praises refugees

The NPD’s leader in Hesse, Jean Christoph Fiedler, responded with praise of asylum seeker probably even he didn't expect to hear coming from his own lips.
The refugees had “likely performed a very good and humane deed,” he told the Frankfurter Rundschau.

As to the condition of his party colleague, Fiedler said that Jagsch’s condition was “to be expected in the circumstances.”

Responding to the incident on Twitter, Hesse’s economy minister Tarek al-Wazir of the Green Party cited an Arabic saying that translates “Shame your enemies through your decency.”
