A member of the highest decision-making body of the Swedish Church has described homosexuality as 'just a trend' in response to other priests' participation in a Pride parade.
Last week’s Pride Festival in Växjö in southern Sweden attracted around 9,000 participants and included events organized by the local branch of the Swedish Church (Svenska Kyrkan).

But Bruno Edgarsson, who is head of Växjö diocese's adminstrative board as well as a member of Sweden’s Centre Party, caused a stir in the famously open and tolerant Nordic country when he made controversial comments in response.

“I am definitely against Pride. I think it should be a man and a woman and I can’t reconcile myself with LBGT,” he told local paper Smålänningen.

“I don’t know why they choose to become homosexuals, but I believe it has become a trend among young people, and then it isn’t easy to remove yourself from it,” he added.

A Centre Party spokesperson told The Local that it has distanced itself from the statements, and that they were not previously aware of Edgarsson’s thoughts on the issue.

“We aren’t in agreement with what he said and the party distances itself from the comments,” said Per Schöldberg, the Centre Party’s chairman for the Kronoberg district, where Edgarsson is based.

“I didn’t previously know about these thoughts on homosexuality. It was news for me,” he added.

“This is a question of human rights and equality. Most people know that the Centre Party has a crystal clear line on these questions. We’ll have discussions with him about what has happened, about what he said and then take it forward from there,” Schöldberg concluded.

Edgarsson’s comments have also been met with opposition within the church. Fellow bishop Fredrik Modéus told news agency TT that “for me, it is important to say that what the rainbow flag stands for – diversity and difference – is completely consistent with my Christian faith”.

“I come across this debate in the form of either very strong agreement or very strong disagreement. That shows how polarized the question is. Meetings need to take place. To not communicate over this would be the worst of all,” he added.

I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I am very devastated at my situation.

For up to 6 weeks, I have awaited reply from the Danish embassy on my multiple entry visa application, first to Denmark and then to Spain a few days after my return. I was granted a multiple entry visa with a one month validity period BUT only 7 days for duration of stay

This would only cover my trip to Denmark as that is the exact number of days for the conference.

Who has any experience with this sort of situation? Is there a method for reviewing the duration of stay by the embassy, since the visa has already been granted?

Please help. Thanks.

Oh yes...there are many advocates of no sex before marriage and the marriage bed undefiled. A relationship free from all forms of sinful lifestyle that will hinder your spiritual growth.

These words of caution have been the watchwords of so many believers here on nairaland and in my vicinity. A spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said it was the first industrial-scale production of crystal methamphetamine in West Africa, and possibly on the continent. “The Nigerians invited the Mexicans in to leverage their expertise in these industrial-scale, high-yield productions,” Mr. Ofoyeju said. The operation, in southern Delta state, could produce 8,800 pounds a week of the drug. Most of it was intended for Singapore snd Malaysia.

Nigeria Has Dismantled a Crystal Meth Super Lab Built With Mexican Expertise

The National drug enforcement agency has announced that it has dismantled West Africa's first industrial-scale crystal meth lab, and said that it was built with Mexican know-how.

"The Nigerians invited the Mexicans in to leverage their expertise in these industrial-scale, high-yield productions," the agency's spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, told reporters.

He said that eight people, including four Mexicans, were arrested in the operation to dismantle the lab that had carried out a successful test production last month.

Nigerian media reported that the "super laboratory," located in the Asaba Delta state, had the capacity to produce four tons of crystal meth per week, and was aiming to sell its product in Asia.

"Nigerian methamphetamine is now competing with others in Asian and South African markets. The super laboratory does not need ephedrine because it uses the synthesis method," Ofoyeju was cited as saying in the local newsite Naija.com. "Drug cartels are now shifting from a simple method of methamphetamine production to a more complex process."

The official did not give any information regarding what drug trafficking organization the four arrested Mexicans are believed to be associated with. Mexico's foreign ministry, meanwhile, released a statement saying that it is still checking out whether any of them are indeed Mexican, before going on to "verify their legal and physical condition."

West Africa has a well-established reputation as an important trafficking route for Latin American cocaine on its way to Europe. More recent reports suggest the region is also gaining importance as a hub for the production of methamphetamine, mostly heading for Asia.

An investigation by the Reuters news agency last year, highlighted the role played by Mexican drug cartels within this.

"They are not just mom and pop labs, they are big labs," DEA spokesman Rusty Payne told the agency. "Mexicans aren't going to come over and train (people) unless they are dealing in large amounts."

Mexican involvement in drugs production in Africa and Asia first made headlines in Mexico in 2012 when a Malaysian court sentenced three brothers to hang after they were found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine.

Malaysia's highest court ratified the sentences a year ago, though they still have one last chance of obtaining a royal pardon. The brothers, who come from the state of Sinaloa which is known as the "cradle" of Mexican drug trafficking, have always maintained that they are innocent. x-Fifa president Sepp Blatter was engaged by the Swiss government in a secret mission to try to oust the president of Burundi last year, it has emerged.

The bizarre story was reported by daily paper Blick on Thursday, publication day for Blatter’s authorized biography ‘Sepp Blatter – Mission & Passion Fussball’, in which the tale is recounted.

According to the book in May 2015 the Swiss foreign affairs office (EDA) asked Blatter, then boss of football’s world governing body Fifa, to help them prevent Burundi’s controversial president Pierre Nkurunziza from running for a third term in office by offering him a job in football.

EDA spokesman Stefan von Below confirmed the news to The Local, saying: "The EDA confirms that there was a contact between State Secretary Yves Rossier and Mr. Joseph Blatter. The intention was to contribute to a peaceful solution in order to prevent the current crisis in Burundi.".

The ministry would not comment on Blatter’s claim, reported by Blick, that the request came from the US.

Switzerland plays a key role in international relations with Burundi, heading up a UN commission trying to broker peace in the unstable area.

"Switzerland’s commitment to peace and stability in Burundi has been longstanding," the ministry told The Local.

It added that it contributed to the drafting peace agreements for the country and has continued to support Burundi "with its instruments of peace policy, development cooperation, humanitarian aid as well as through diplomatic channels."

Speaking to Blick, a second spokesman said it was “not unusual to call on non-diplomats if their experience and networks can help solve problems”.

But the ministry told The Local they "never asked president Nkurunziza not to run for the office of president again."

Blatter’s mission came just days after a failed coup by General Godefroid Niyombare against Nkurunziza in May 2015, said the paper.

Blatter, too, was unsuccessful. Born-again Christian Nkurunziza turned down his offer to become ambassador for football in Africa saying he was “chosen by God to rule Burundi,” said Blick.

Nkurunziza was elected in 2005 in the first democratic elections since the start of the Burundi civil war.

But since then his presidency has become regarded as increasingly authoritarian, with reports of press harassment, political repression and violence.

the Burundi constitution limiting a president to two terms in office, in April 2015 Nkurunziza announced he would run for a third term, prompting months of protests and violence and the failed military coup. He was elected in July.

A few months after his mission Blatter was himself thrown off his perch as president of Fifa due to an ongoing corruption scandal.

He led Fifa for 17 years, winning a fifth term in office before he was suspended in October 2015 over an unauthorized payment to Uefa boss Michel Platini. He was later banned from football for eight years, later reduced to six.

Blatter’s authorized biography, out in German today, was written by former Fifa spokesman Thomas Reneggli. An English translation is due out in June.

Since it's a case of under-value,I see no reason why Customs should hold on to your truck when it's not detention or seizure.

I guess this is when u need the services of a lawyer that can take up your case on pro-bono. U may need to look up @the extant laws(CEMA) governing the modus operandi of the NCS as it relates to detention and seizure which I believe lays emphasis on seizing the means/mode of transportation but silent on cases on under-valuation of goods.

A proper value of the goods can be ascertained and D/N issued @the port of entry to the agent/importer.

In all honesty,u were just caught up in a bad situation and your truck ought to be released to u.

Is the 20m D/N issued on the goods or just settlement fees?

20 million is meant to be settlement fees for thé undervalued cargo.
