A group of Syrians have fled in terror from a refugee centre in southern Sweden after a succession of strange, inexplicable happenings left them convinced it was haunted by ghosts.

Thirty five of the 38 refugees housed at a centre in Grännaforsa, a small village in Småland, took refuge in the offices of the Migration Agency in the nearby town of Alvesta on Tuesday, after the incidence of strange activity increased.

“In the last three days it has been getting worse and worse with these ghosts,” Hamid Alojaili from Syria told Sveriges Radio at the centre in Alvesta.

“We are too scared. Last night nobody slept at all, neither the kids nor us.”

Magnus Peterson, head of the Migration Agency in Alvesta, told the local Smålandsposten newspaper that the refugees’ complaint was “surprising”.

“We have had no indications that there would be problems with ghosts before,” he said.

“We are taking this seriously, and believe that we can explain the events. The ghosts may in fact be wild animals which have got into the garden. The refugees come from a different culture with spiritual beliefs.”

Alojaili said that one of the refugees’ children had reported seeing a ghost soon after their arrival.

“He opened the room and he saw something on top of the table, and when he tried to find out what was that thing, that thing jumped under the table and disappeared,” Alojaili said.

“At the beginning we thought it was only our kids who were giving us stories, but then we adults started hearing sounds,” he continued.

He said that doors in the house were inexplicably unlocked, the fire alarm would go off for no reason, and that refugees frequently heard the showers or toilets being used, only to discover that there was no one inside them.

“These kids they didn’t eat since yesterday, they didn’t drink, they are unable even to go to the toilet. It is the same for the ladies. Everyone is afraid,” he said.

The refugee added that when the temporary residents complained to the local Swedish person managing the refugee centre, they admitted that it was haunted.

“He said, ‘Yes, but it’s a good ghost, it is not a bad ghost. We know about it, and even in my house we have one. These good ghosts, they clean up after you. They don’t do anything bad to you.’”

Peterson said that the refugees had returned to the centre on Wednesday, after the Migration Agency told them that no alternative accommodation was available.
“Everything went calmly, some had gone back earlier,” he said. “There was no problem. They want to find another accommodation, but it is impossible.

Stefan Johansson, a co-owner of the facility, told AP newswire that the building had been constructed in the 19th century and that its creaky piping may have alarmed residents.

“It’s an old house and the doors maybe are a bit crooked,” he said. “Sometimes there are cracking noises in the pipes.”

The flickering lights were caused by problems with the electrical wiring he said.

“We have explained all this to them. How much of it they took in I don’t know,” he said

China officially ended its one child policy on Dec. 27 with the signing into law of a bill allowing all married couples to have a second child as it attempts to cope with an ageing population and shrinking workforce.

The change, which was announced in October by the ruling Communist Party, takes effect from January 1, the Xinhua news agency reported.

All married couples will be allowed to have a second child but the legislation maintains limits on additional births.

The "one child policy", instituted in the late 1970s, restricted most couples to only a single offspring and for years authorities argued that it was a key contributor to China's economic boom and had prevented 400 million births.

It has been enforced by a dedicated national commission with a system of fines for violators and often forced abortions, leading to heartrending tales of loss for would-be parents.

The policy led to sex-selective abortions or infanticide targeting girls, because of a centuries-old social preference for boys.

Rural families were already allowed two children if the first was a girl, while ethnic minorities were allowed an extra offspring, leading some to dub it a "one-and-a-half child" policy.

As a result China's population -- the world's largest at 1.37 billion -- is now ageing rapidly, gender imbalances are severe, and its workforce is shrinking.

These concerns led to limited reforms in 2013, including allowing couples to have two children if either of them wasan only child, but relatively few have taken up the opportunity due to limited income and higher perceived opportunity costs.

Experts say that the shift to a two child policy is likely too little, too late to address China's looming population crisis and that the government is unlikely to dismantle enforcement mechanisms for reproductive control due to deeply entrenched bureaucratic interests.

For many, the Christmas tree is the quintessential Christmas symbol. Children around the world wait eagerly until the day it’s erected − its position in the house signalling that Christmas has finally arrived.

Whether tall or short, real or fake, the Christmas tree has become synonymous with Christmas. But considering that the nativity story took place in the desert towns of the Middle East, it’s hard to find a more incongruous symbol. Just where does this connection stem from? And why has it endured?

Pre-dating Christianity
Using evergreen trees in the home actually pre-dates Christianity. Fearing that the onset of winter meant that the sun was abandoning them, ancient Europeans would adorn their homes with evergreen boughs, pines and spruce trees as a way of encouraging it to return.

With the winter solstice occurring around December 20 or 21, pagan homes would be decorated in anticipation of this event. They also believed that certain trees warded off spirits and ill-health, so it was not uncommon for trees and branches to be tied to windows and placed close to doors.

In honour of Saturn, Ra, Odin …
Early Romans marked the solstice with a feast called the Saturnalia in honour of Saturn, the god of agriculture (among other things). In recognition that winter would soon be ending, Romans would decorate houses and temples with evergreen boughs: a symbol for what the new planting season would bring.

Ancient Egyptians also celebrated the end of winter, decorating their homes with green palm rushes in anticipation of the return of Ra.

The famous English Puritan, Oliver Cromwell, was said to be so outraged at the idea of the ‘heathen tradition’ that he banned Christmas trees, along with Christmas carols, in 1647.

Not wanting their Protestant competitors to have all the fun, the Catholic Church recognised the Christmas tree as an authentic Christmas representation in the early 1800s. Introduced into Vienna towards the end of the Napoleonic Wars, the Christmas tree spread through central Europe and eventually to France where it was embraced by the influential Duchesse d’Orleans.

Promoted by the House of Hanover
In 1846, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were sketched sitting around a Christmas tree decorated with candles and ribbons. This immediately set a trend in England that grew considerably throughout the 19th century, eventually arousing the curiosity of the fashionable elite on America’s East Coast.

Although Christmas trees had arrived in America with German settlers some years before, they were seen as little more than an oddity, only gaining in general popularity by the beginning of the 1890s.

By the turn of the 20th century, the Christmas tree had well and truly arrived. The Italian visa was tourist visa for 10 days so he couldnot do much and getting italian business invitation letter was a hardnut to crack.He requested the German company hes been shipping with over the years to send him an invitation letter which the did within one week.

Bros, in my honest and candid opinion, he has been issued a fake Italian Visa. Mind you, the EU operates on a central database. The german embassy in Lagos ran a check on his visa and found it to be fake. Hence, the reason why his passport was not just sent to the Immigration office, but would have been confiscated. This is a serious issue as your friend would have also been handed a lenghty ban.

I remember a fellow here who suffered the same fate but he got everything sorted out by sending series of evidence of what transpired between him and the agent to the German embassy.

First, I'd advise your friend to write an email to the embassy demanding reason why his passport was sent to Abuja. he would probably get a response. he will also be informed if he has been banned of or not.

Secondly, If peradventure he was issued a fake visa, he should appeal the ban with cogent reasons on why he used an Agent for Visa processing and all.

As for immigration, I dont know about that as you will have to write series of letter explaining why your passport was sent to the immigration office. I have always been allergic to using agent in dealing with life issues especially when it comes to travelling. I hope he gets himself out of this messy situation.

Thanks for your advise ,his Italian visa wasn't fake because he applied at Vfs centre with the agent and he tracked his application till it was sent back to Vfs centre Lagos.He has multiple stamps from other African countries which the agent put on his passport to boost his chance of getting European visa.The embassy sent him a letter but did not mention anything like a ban.

I've seen a lot of misinformation regarding Japanese nationality over the years, and it has generally been getting better over time as non-Japanese get more access to information in languages other than Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

However, a viral post has been circulating around the net that was recently forwarded to me and thus caught my attention. The post has been used as propaganda by both pro-Islam and anti-Islam sides.

Unfortunately, the point they're arguing about — whether the Japanese government and its laws and its Constitution, restrict immigration on the basis of religion (Islam) — is entirely false. Enumerated below are sample points from the post which are most related to the topics this site covers:
"Japan is the only nation that does not give citizenship to Muslims."
Absolutely false. In fact, there's a contributing author to this web site who was Muslim at the time of application. There is no place anywhere on the written application where one specifies their religion or creed. Nor have I read anywhere about anyone being asked about their religious beliefs in the verbal interviews.

Because there is no place on the written online application for one's religion, the Ministry of Justice can't publish statistics showing the religions (or races) of naturalization candidates; they can only publish sex and former nationality statistics.

However, looking at the nationality statistics, we can find hundreds of examples of people from Islamic states (ex. Indonesia, Iran, and Pakistan) as well as people from nation-states where the official state religion is Islam (ex. Egypt) and greater than 90% of the population is Muslim. Doing a quick web search, I can find Japanese immigration lawyers who specialize in people from Indonesia and brag of a "100% success rate".

However, even if you don't, a look at the official immigration statistics for Japan shows a large percentage of legal immigrants, both non-permanent and those with Permanent Residency Status of Residence (永住者資格eijūsha shikaku), come from countries where the vast majority of the citizens are Muslim or the official state religion is Islam.

Studies of Muslims in Japan have shown that about 35% are Indonesian, 15% are from Bangladesh, and 10% are from Pakistan.

Both Japanese and foreigners can tell you that they've probably come foreign as well as Japanese who proselytize across Christian missionaries as well as Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses in Japan. Not to mention the endless amount of "new" religions in Japan. They are either stationary on the street or sometimes go door-to-door.

As mentioned previously, freedom of religion and speech is guaranteed. Also, there is a special visa class just for those involved with religion: Religious activities (宗教shūkyō) Examples include : religious people such as monks, bishops, missionaries, etc. (僧侶、司教、宣教師等の宗教家など)

While Islam does not get any more or less breaks regarding zoning laws than any other religion (including native religions of Japan such as 神道Shintō), they are eligible for tax breaks just like any other religion.
"One cannot import Koran published in Arabic language."
This claim is absolute rubbish. You can find versions of the Quran in Arabic in any mosque in Japan. And while you'd probably need to go to a specialty bookstore (for Muslims or religious texts) or order one online, there is no prohibition against importing them into the country or bringing them with your personal belongings when you come to visit or immigrate to Japan. While reading and studying from the Quran is supposed to be done in Arabic, there are over seven interpretations of the Quran in Japanese. This is possible because of at least three Constitutional rights in Japan:

Article 20
Freedom of religion is guaranteed to all.
第２１条　集会、結社及び言論、出版その他一切の表現の自由は、これを保障する。
Article 21 Freedom of assembly and association as well as speech, press and all other forms of expression are guaranteed.

Academic freedom is guaranteed.
"Even today visas are not granted to Muslim doctors, engineers or managers sent by foreign companies."
There is no way to tell if one is Muslim or not by looking at a Japanese visa application as there is no place to indicate one's religious beliefs. However, it is a fact that Japan grants visas all the time to people from countries whose: state religion is Muslim, is an Islamic republic, or who the majority of the population identifies as Muslim.

As for being a doctor or engineer: depending on the type of doctor or engineer, laws regulating licensed professionals often certify if one can practice their profession in a certain country. This is the same as most countries.

Being able to speak, read, and write Japanese, as well as passing an examination regarding Japanese laws and regulations concerning one's profession, may be a requirement to obtain employment, and thus a visa. This is no different for Japanese professionals working in other countries.
"There is no personal (Sharia) law in Japan."
This is correct. Even more so than the U.S., separation of Church and State is very clear in the Japanese Constitution and observed strictly by most public institutions. This includes public schools. There are no mentions of any gods or religious symbols on currency, government buildings, or flags. The same Constitutional article that gives religious freedom to everybody also defines the limits:

(2) No person shall be compelled to take part in any religious act, celebration, rite or practice. (3) The State and its organs shall refrain from religious education or any religious activity.
"According to data published by Japanese government, it has given temporary residency to only 2 [hundred thousand] Muslims, who need to follow the Japanese Law of the Land. These Muslims should speak Japanese and carry their religious rituals in their homes."
This quote originally wrote "2 lakh". A "lakh" means "one hundred thousand" and is commonly used in Indian, Pakistani and Sri Lankan English. I believe the author got the rounded 200,000 number from Wikipedia, which says there are 185,000 Muslims in Japan.

Assuming the information from Wikipedia is correct, there are two problems with that claim. The first problem is that the original Wikipedia does not make a distinction with its number between foreigners and natural-born Japanese; we don't know how many of those 185,000 are not foreigners.

The second problems is out of the approximately two million foreigners in Japan, the top eight foreign nationalities in Japan, none of which are considered to be predominantly Muslim countries, comprise over 87% of the foreign resident population:

Thailand
This means that of the remaining foreign residents split amongst , 69% of the remaining 27 reported countries are most likely Muslim if the 185K number does not include Japanese nationals. That's a high percentage.

lawyers have to look for work like everyone else mostly in Law chambers.They get to work with F& S Government (Judiciary as magistrates,judges Assistants,Police,Immigrations,Customs,Miltary,Ministries of Justice ,all Govt parastatals legal dept),lecturing,legal department of companies.only few law firms like Afe Babalola etc pay law graduates good money if you get one with the right connection.I once had a friend that worked with Afe around 2004 she earned 200k monthly plus extras from clients and transport money for court appearances.

What I need to understand is, is the Law universal? I had thought each country has her law and cases which are particular to a her, how then can someone study law in another country and practice it in another.

The law is not universal.English law is different from Nigerian Law.Before your friend can practise in Nigeria ,she needs to apply for Bar Part 1&2 at the Nigeria Law School and pass the qualifying exams.For Nigerian Graduates only Bar 2 is required
