Benin republic currency is backed by an European country which means the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund cannot influence it.

And the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund does not decide and inflate the population figures of Benin republic. Which makes Benin republic population low while Nigeria population is high.

They all did...the oil boom of the 1970's made oil the main the main. At the end of the 1980's, everything rose and depended on the oil price.

By the start of 1993, we had a deficit.

Nigeria's problem is simple. We are not a exporter of manufactured goods and service. We rely on oil, so when oil crashes, our economy crashes. When oil shoots up, we have to pay the debt back once again.

Even before oil, we relied on cocoa, groundnut and palm oil, and tin, and gold, and a host of other stuff. Nice, but we sold the thing to industrial nations, who processed it for larger profits.

The question I always wonder of our leaders, (which is why I am not impressed with any one of our leaders since independence) is simple....what have we done with the resources we have? The truth is, we have not processed them into goods that we can sell at a price we set.

THat is why as far as I am concerned, Nigeria has never had good leaders.

(NO, I am not here to abuse you or anyone for the party they support, or defend any leader. Every voting period we hope the new guy would be different. They ain't.).

Nigeria is a resource dependent nation, and it needs to break free of its resource dependency.
nairalanda1:
Simple. They did not diversify, so they ran out of the money needed to keep the naira strong. Hence , they had to devalue or else....

(Yes, tinubu was part of the APC government from the word go in 2015).
Nigeria's problem is the population the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund is giving it.

Even if you migrate to Lagos in millions and vote your anti-yoruba party the Yoruba votes will still outnumber your votes.

The issue is not who got help. Nigeria did not deserve help. But let's leave that. Did the Marshall plan also give Germany an obsessive attention to detail? The Japanese the highest rate of domestic savings globally or did the plan give the Koreans the ability to innovate products. Let's leave these countries and jump to Singapore - did the UK give the Singaporeans the ability to ruthlessly prioritize.

Like I said earlier re Nigerian motivation drivers - there is no need to argue with you because popular culture is replete with the fear of shame and being overtaken " God no go shame us" " I better pass my neigbour" gens. You can speak for yourself but I am very confident that Nigerian competition and hassle is not to create world class products but in the main to avoid shame and being left behind. I stand by that.

Did your currency lose value because exports were impossible and cigarettes were more valuable than local currency or because export base was neglected. Loads of entitlement in your statement. US and Europe owe us nothing.

Re Nigerian drivers - no comment. Ok.
that's problem number 1..

as at 1960 England did not build primary schools, secondary schools, universities, health centers, hospitals, stadiums, technical institutes, vocation centers, maternity hospitals, pediatric hospitals, sports centers, housing estates, no pipe borne water, no roads, no manufacturing companies e.t.c. all over Nigeria between 1840s and 1960 and after..

there was no knowledge transfer to Nigerians like there was knowledge transfer and sharing with Ger:many, J:apan and south Korea.

there were no manufacturing companies to drop bombs on and since there were no manufacturing companies then government policy can not affect what does not exist.

despite the very little and next to nothing they left for us... they still sponsored a civil war for Nigerians to destroy themselves and the little Nigerians had built for themselves at that time.

When you want to bring change and see it will affect someone very close, you change tactics
This is why we will continue to clamour for the restructuring of this country
If not, we will keep being keyboard warriors
poseidon12:
Exactly. The solution to Nigeria's fundamental problem lies in restructuring. That is decentralisation of governance.
There can never be a revolution in Nigeria again because in Nigeria a revolution means attacking and destroying another ethnic nation ( tribe ) that is not your own ethnic nation.

And Nigeria can never restructure because what you guys want to restructure into is what Nigeria practised after Independence which was regionalism which also led to the 1st revolution carried out by igbo soldiers.

igbo soldiers who out of envy, hatred and jealousy falsely accused non-igbo politicians and non-igbo people of corruption, mis-appropriation of funds e.t.c and thereby hiding behind these false accusations of corruption against non-igbo leaders to carry out a revolution and killed leaders of other ethnic nations because at that time those other ethnic nations were doing better and were more prosperous than the eastern region which the soldiers hailed from and normal igbos since 1960 independence were losing the status the Bri:ts gave them of having well paying employment outside the eastern region because the regions began to hire indigenes to replace the igbos the brits had hired so igbos were not happy and their soldiers truncated and abolished regionalism and introduced the unitary system of government to get the revenue of all regions to the FG which the igbo soldiers through their revolution now controlled but their control did not last and once they lost control they started shouting dis-integration and return to regionalism.

So in summary, all this talk about revolution is because another ethnic nation is doing better your own ethnic nation.

and all this talk about restructuring is because the descendants of igbo soldiers and igbos who truncated regionalism now realise their ancestors made a very foolish mistake and they would be wealthier, richer than other ethnic nations and don't want to share their revenue with other ethnic nations so that they can start doing better than other tribes.

even on Nairaland, some NL users falsely accuse rich people of doing rituals or illegal things to become rich...

Let's imagine though that we were a country like Japan, South Korea or post war Germany that's basically being ruined by war. The economy is in sham les and the currency is near useless.

This was exactly the situation these three countries were in. Complete economic ruin post ww2 and Korean war.

The difference between these two countries is that their leaders showed an example of cost cutting, willingness to suffer short term pain. Today you have three developed and powerful economies.

In Nigeria obviously we don't have these types of leaders but believe me when I say we don't have these types of citizens. Because you will be shocked how much influence ordinary citizens who happen to suddenly get access to Aso Rock have on government and of course let's not mention our civil service.

Everyone is out to take care of themselves in order to maintain their standards even at the cost of everyone else. These standards are to import "oyinbo orishirishi is life" We have a mentality problem towards possessions and things that leads to "poor shaming" Even gate men "poor shame" people who have cars they consider inferior. This is the pleasure of having someone to shame. And it's expensive because it leads to an arms race to own stuff - usually denominated in USD.

We are driven by a fear of being shamed rather than the idea of a building a prosperous community. Even in church and mosque shaming goes on

My wife and I have a pretty large school on the mainland and we've worked hard to remove the strata
of class and shame. It literally feels like being in a new
country when you step through the gates. No rudeness, no class stratification. No need to assert yourself through force or intimidation. Everyone gets their due irrespective of tribe, income and circumstance.

It take citizens and government to build a society like this. But to do it we have to get people to give up on the pleasure of having people to shame.

Sorry this is long. smiley
No Nigerian is driven by fear of been shamed.

if you have knowledge of history then you will know that Japan, South Korea and Germany all got support from U:S and Europe and you will never ever compare them to Nigeria who never received any support from U:S and Europe.

Cameroon Niger and some west African countries don't export anything and yet Thier currency is stable. Why is it so
The World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund use population to decide the stability of African economies.

Those countries have smaller populations than Nigeria and they use a currency that's created by their colonial thieves.

Every year the World Slavery Bank and International Slavery Fund keeps over inflating Nigeria's population figures and this affects the economy of Nigeria badly.

Anyone that says anything else from this is telling you rubbish because Nigeria produces locally more than what 90% of other African countries produce locally.

A front 3 of Lookman playing LW, Moffi playing CF while Osimhen playing RW will have 3 goal threats and they can also switch positions making the opposition defense confused.

Osimhen can start as a RW then after the cooling break or at 20mins he can switch to CF.

Contrary to some of the takes I have seen here, I don't think Osimhen needs to be pulled off, rather, he needs to be partnered up.

There was a pass he gave inside the 18-yard box in that game and nobody was there to receive it, if Kelechi was there, it would have been an easy tap in. Our players lack positioning, the 4th goal EQG scored, was basically from a rebound shot and it was because a player was there to capitalise.

Our team has no such player. I have lost count of how many times I have asked why players are not in positions to poach goals. Their positioning is shit, and people like Chukwueze don't know when to release a pass. Hell, I even saw them dodging a pass. How you go stand, dodge pass? Why will you allow a ball you could have easily kicked into the box, to go into corner?

There is a serious coaching problem with this team and it is clear Peseiros has no idea how to use attackers. You watch how good the attacks are in so many of these AFCON games and it just makes you pissed.

We have not had any decent goal in a tournament filled with spectacular goals. Our play has been lethargic, our attack abysmal and it is 65% a coaching problem.
You just made a case for Osimhen to be used as a winger in Chukwueze's position while Moffi plays main striker knowing fully well Osimhen will know when to attack and be in the box to attack any cross or pass from the other wing which means SE will be indirectly playing with 2 strikers.

Which also means Osimhen will have to drop deep since he is not the main striker thereby reducing his ridiculous offside stats.

SE may be using Osimhen wrongly.

Wow! What a tournament for Equatorial Guinea, they are scoring goals were expecting of our teams to score. But first congratulations to us on our qualification to the next round. For EQG it is a massive achievement for them and their football status, they have really benefited lately from hosting the tournament twice. Their consistency in football is remarkable. Their female team was the first team to upset the hegemonic status of our super falcons. And their male national team is consistently making a statement for itself. We might have to watch out for them in the future to see where they go. Sadly, I'm still not convinced about their side as much as I'm not convinced about our ability to win this tournament. I believe getting to the semi-finals for us is an achievement. And it is being far generous as liberal in my expectations for them. For EQG like I said I doubt they will make it out of the round 16 irrespective of who they meet, because I don't think they have that mental ruggedness to sustain this, it is a gamble for me to say this, but it's coming of my knowledge of such teams in tournaments.

For the Super Eagles, can we say our best match from the group stage was our game against EQG?. Considering how we defended against Ivory Coast, and how we were lackadaisical in the first half today. This is what may will associate to a change in formation. But I think the answer is simple. It lies in the absence of a particular player with the skill set in our first game that balanced us up. It was alhassan's presence that saw us dominate our first game. And in his absence in our second and third games it turned us into a lucrid and impotent side that simply does the bare minimum to win games.

I believe it is beautiful that we can still win games without alhassan. But it is more important that he returns in our next match against whoever.

We've clearly seen Bassey can do the job of sanusi, although Bassey is a little erratic returning back when he bursts forward leaving open the space behind but it is not the problem that the center backs can't handle or the nearest center midfielder covers when the gap is opened.

Return Aina to the right, he is clearly miles ahead in this tournament. No disrespect to Bright-samuel he can always come from bench and get opportunities like he had when we played ivory coast.

Leadership matters, while omeruo was able to cover up and do his job neatly, I hold him responsible for the blandness of our first half display. Ekong bears a leadership pattern that has the team heated up. I wish omeruo can add that to his game. However, we might as well start Omeruo in our next game with Ajayi I think they are both capable and balanced.

Osimhen will come good. We just have to relax. I believe he will get it better in the next game, and I'm sure he knows that he has been well served. It is the knockout stage, and he must be reminded that he has to be clinical. Return Chukwueze to the bench. It's been two games and no clear chances created. We scored today off a moses Simon cross he has the experience and Simon is better supporting the defense than Chukwueze. Bring lookman back to the starting line up. Aribo is barely in the tournament. He lacks confidence. And Onyeka has really blossomed in his confidence. Iwobi starts in our next game. Hopefully, we witness another pass like the one he lay to osimhen and I'm sure this time around Osimhen converts.
Osimhen will not come good.

He couldn't score against Ghana and qualify SE for the world cup...

By now you should accept the fact that Osimhen struggles against good African teams and he may be used as a super sub.

Leave Aina on the left and put lookman on the right so that they can cross to the main striker.

Aina showed he can cross accurately with his left leg so moving him to the right is foolishness.

Lookman start on the RW while chukwueze is benched.

The offside calls might be usual when he is the last man to finish and is without the ball and then is off, while the qualities i highlighted were taken into consideration when he is with the ball and and is on and sometimes not the last man. The number of times Osimhen had the ball on him, he controlled it better, did not lose it even when under pressure held his own and was still able to get the ball to a team mate in good position.

Oyenka, onyedika, iwobi will be subbed out in the 60-65min and sub in chukwueze,Moses and moffi. Look me dead in the eye and tell me we won’t loose that midfield instantly 😂
I mean sub 2 midfielders out. since there will be 4 midfielders on the pitch then that means another striker with Moffi upfront..

sub out 1 striker and 2 midfielders, yes the midfield will be lost but SE has been playing with 1 midfielder for the past 2 years and SE has not collapsed.

Osimhen needs Man-city like pattern of play to score for the SE, at Napoli he had Kvara, politano on the wings with Anguissa, Zielinski and Lobotka in midfield.

so from this above formation, means Osimhen needs at 3 midfielders, and 2 wingers that can cross in a starting 11 to thrive and score goals.

if I was Osimhen and I see a lean midfield for the SE I will reject the call up invitation..

That's the point..

them coming on in the 2nd half means more energy and stamina in the attack and yes since they will come on in the 2nd half and have more energy then they will fall back.

After all, it was Moses Simon's cross that gave SE a win this evening.

I don't have faith in them, I am just thinking the opposition players will be tired in the 2nd half and players like Simon, Chukwueze, Moffi can stretch the opposition more and make them more tired..
