angelo82: I find your piece very interesting and logically it apply to land situation in Nigeria but sometimes we need to draw ideas from real life experience more than from speculation……You have to know that even if you have complete papers of landed properties in Nigeria you may not get the expected return… .... ….My experience….None of it is speculation. Quite real! This is why I said if he is looking on the short term to go with tBills, because you can't quite "flip" land/property that fast. I importantly noted @petikal said he was interested in buying land and flipping it in what I would consider "short" term.If on the other hand he has a " longer outlook", and does not require much liquidity- land all the way. We should diversify our portfolios all the same. However, the weight of your investment in each type depends on your investment goals. |
My two cents: Buying land Nigeria can be quite profitable and yet on the other hand be a total disaster of an investment. You stand the absolute stand of losing every single penny you put in because of scammers, omonile wahala, lack of proper govt. regulation and documentation. Having said that, a lot of folks who invested as little as 5-10 years back are cashing in big time. One of the greatest upsides of the "developing" countries ( of especially Africa) is development itself. The need for infrastructure, housing, amenities in these sprawling cities as more Africans are getting into the middle class (we are all making more money overall). The demand for land is absolutely like none else anywhere else in the world. I'm not talking just Nigeria; Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda etc etc etc. The potential appreciation of genuine land/real estate totally floors the meager gains of fixed securities. ...and nothing actually feels like owing your own home ( or homes ), where ever that home might be. Investing in land is in my opinion is a longer term investment than most fixed securities but you stand the chance of a greater return in the long run. The risk is greater because of the nature of our country, yet I would invest far more in land than tBills all day long! One very good point @Chilisauce just made is securing your investment by quickly building on it. That is very important in these parts! That for me is = building rental property. This in fact is my destination career: to be a property developer!!! I importantly noted @petikal said he was interested in buying land and flipping it in what I would consider "short" term. If that is the approach, you might find tBills a better option for your investment money. If you have a longer "outlook", go for land. My two cents; peace! |
@drandonzero here is what another person answered to getting ptv(Paksat 38E) in Nigeria: okoegualek: For Parksat 1R @ 37.8E,the C-beam does not cover West Africa much, but East Africa,it doesn't even cover Nigeria, you will receive it as a Fringe reception, using Sout-south Nigeria as Landmark, you need 4.5- 8metres diah on C-band,then on Ku-band,don't even border cos,it does not beam on Africa, save as a Fringe reception in the North-Eastern Africa as a Fringe reception.Enjoy |
petikal: I've been following this thread for many months, and finally decided to join Nairaland mostly because of it. Great exchange of knowledge!...interested in responses to this question. Yours thoughts: @feelamong @angelo82 @Chilisauce and all others too please? |
What size of dish do you guys think one would be able to pick Paksat 1R at 38.0°E from southern Nigeria, if at all possible? |
some quality posts from oga @angelo82 on the last two pages...read back if you missed any of em. i hail! |
EMMAACHILE: A lot of channels under nilesat 7w and canal 22 w. It depends on the size of your dish for nilesat. I watch premium movies from the middle east here.I don't get it someone please clarify this for me. I have been reading the mbcs at NILE 102 7w were gone. Some are saying they are showing sports. Some are saying they will move to NILE 201. Then I go to lyngsat-maps and see a footprint map of eutelsat 7WA NWA beam that tells me a 1m dish should pick it up. Which one is it abeg na? One full and fit answer for a guy who wants to go and buy a dish, to get mbc 1 2 3 4, action movies etc. (that when it moves to 201, I will still be able to pick it up) my ogas @odilibe @olenyi @flashyberry abeg feel free . thx. |
eerekake: House, pls give me details on how to track ptv sports in south-south Nigeria.what is on this ptv sports sef...ive seen few people requesting details on it. |
feelamong: hehehe.. making money is not easy naa.....heard that! Nigeria paying 9+% is actually a great deal still but they don't know. Even in the best of economies, they were only paying 4%. Ghana pays 23% but their currency has dropped 34% in the last six months. Nigeria pays 10% with a relatively stable Naira since 2 years. |
odilibe: from your location ..it is better you use 3meter dish or above for nilesat 102 and 201@ 7west!...MBC channels are currently on nilesat 102 @ 7west.. but MBC Will move cos there will be permanent blackouts on nilesat 102 before September 2015!keep your fingers crossed... hehehe!thanks boss |
jamesmac1: I am seeing too much confusion on this thread. This IRIB tp has footprint for Central Asia not Maghreb. The only Ku channels from Badr 5 reaching Nigeria with 1.8m dish or less are on 12303H. For IRIB you need to use Arabsat 5 C-band at 20 east.oga smallest dish to get mbc 1-4 & co? c or ku? nilesat? eutelsat? |
ProphetUdeme: An again here comes some self acclaimed pastors who go about brainwashing their followers. Chai i feel sorry for some blind christians who obey their pastors more than the bible..story teller...because YOU can't do it means everyone else can't? mtschew. shift abeg, if you don't have discipline, train yourself to have. stop talking nonsense. |
