Was reading and got bored after the third paragraph...who's this turd?

What a stupid headline- would make you think some poor old fellows have been getting jacked.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 5:31am On Jul 26, 2014
Seriously...people na wa o.

10+% return is meager?

Say you open a shop selling provisions. How much profit do you add to each biscuit pack, or powder milk or whatever?

I'd say anywhere between 5-25% depending....

Unless you are selling d*ope, or other high value items- 10% aint "meager" by any stretch of imagination.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 12:37am On Jul 24, 2014
No investment is risk free.

With respect to this thread, tbills are loans to a govt.

Should the govt fail, you might be holding useless paper.

Investing directly by yourself or (indirectly) via a fund, you bare the same risk. Buying through a fund, you have handed the cash over to a guy ( fund manager) and said "hey" buy for me...

A second level of risk is added by buying via a fund if the fund is poorly managed. The govt of the country didn't fail and is paying its debts, however, the guy (fund) you handed your money is bad in his accounting, management or whatever else.

Having said that, these "guys" (funds) are regulated by the SEC. You would also do your due diligence to hand your money to the more trusted "guys"

Chances are Nigerian govt "won't" do a total collapse in the next 2 years- and Stanbic ( or FBN Capital or InvestmentOne) "will" manage their cash and portfolios properly.

Not totally risk free, but low risk.

Peace.

FBN Money Market = IS THIS RISK FREE? WHAT IS THE INTEREST RATE LIKE?
KGIF = FROM MY INVESTIGATION THIS IS RISK FREE (N50,000). THE CURRENT MPR IS THE INTEREST RATE.

CORAL = IS THIS RISK FREE? WHAT IS THE INTEREST RATE LIKE?
ARM = IS THIS RISK FREE? WHAT IS THE INTEREST RATE LIKE?

THANKS
No investment is risk free but these I mentioned are pretty good for low-risk, and good return.

If you ask me, FBN MM and KGIF are battling for who is the best out there.

Yem0350: You should have bought ARM Money Market dat operate llike TBills. I am currently into FBN Money Market and the interest since I have subsribe has been higher than TBills stop rate. Another benefit is that you can enter and exit freely at any business day.
Exactamente!
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 4:48pm On Jul 20, 2014
.... and ARM Money Market is ARM's "treasury bill" type fund as Yem0350 as rightly stated.

unite4real: Are u kidding me?

I bought into ARM aggresive growth fund back in 2008 for 20 Naira per unit. as of this moment, thank God it is around 16 Naira per unit. Even if it was 1% i have been getting from TB investment since 2008, i would have been better off.
1. I made no recommendations. I mentioned 3 particular mutual funds that invest highly in "treasury bills" (or "bonds" ). And others.

2. If you bought ARM "Aggressive Growth," you bought a riskier investment that is more "Aggressive." They invest highly in stocks ( equities ), for the possibility of a greater gain (thus greater loss).

So read well these things: nairaland posts; mutual fund prospectuses; and the like.

Kakawa is a well known/reputable outfit known by most in the financial markets. You can buy stock / TBills and do many other etc etc through them.

KGIF is no longer managed by Kakawa. Now run by Investment-One (formerly GTB Asset Mgmt)

If you can buy Stanbic Money Market, First Bank Money Market, you can buy this.

I dare say none of these pays better than KGIF. Not even most TBills.

I'v been watching with dismay and anger, @ how some guys will out of gaining cheap popularity, want to answer every post thrown in here by every passerby. Don't blame the newbies. Put the blame squarely on the so-called gurus who rush to answer every recycled question! I just don't know whether some old guys are in here for fame or what. Since the site came back from hack attack, about 95% of the posts so far have been nothing less than annoying. B4 the the server went down, some newbies were provided answers on how to combine amos5 & multi tv, yet still, these same people keep on asking how to combine multi tv & Amos5.
what's this? you think it is easy for people to dig into 500+ pages of posts.

get a life, what are you complaining about?

whoever answered, answered the question and solved another man's problem.

something wrong with that? you might mind your own time.

don't worry about someone else's.

I have KGIF. The rate is real.

Still don't get people calling 9 or 10% interest poor undecided

My oga that got charged 35k COT, don't move money like that at all at all.
If you were planning to invest such funds into TBills or any interest yielding investment or even to do business sef, you've reduced your final gain already at the beginning.

If you must move money:
In bits; use savings accounts; walk-in if across banks;

Stanbic has a non-COT current account but that is only if you gross less than 5m(I think) in cash movements.
If you have a relationship with banks and are a reputable customer, you can negotiate what you get from them.
I know business people that banks beg to come lodge their money with them, they get these sort of things.
Any bankers in the house?

Peace

If you know the hoops you need to jump through to get GTPay approved you will understand.

It is one thing to have a GTPay integrated. It is another matter for them to approve you because of their "log this / log that" requirements.

See people oh?

Why do you need a payment plugin?

Why don't you sell your products on your site for free?

The very essence of needing a payment module/plugin is to charge people.

You want to charge other people for something on your site- yet you want to pay nothing for what will make it possible.

Mtschew.

F*cking losers.

Hey folks.

So I did a little scurry into Ghana and while I was there opened something similar to a Kakawa KGIF.

Interest rate is set at time of deposit and they offer a rate better than (or at least equal to) the government t-bill (currently 19-20%)

In Ghana, you have to be a resident to purchase (short-term) T-Bills so it is not open foreigners.

This was the alternative.

I test am with 50k.

See attached. I put in 660ghs fixed at 21%(p.a) for 182 days.

I should mention that at the time I deposited, I changed that 660ghs for N48,180 at the ATM ( rate of 1ghs to N73 )

Right now 1 ghs is N69-70.

Just an fyi.

Peace

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by coderXO(m): 3:21pm On Aug 19, 2013
Hello satellite folks and gurus.

I live in epe lagos.
I want to get MBC 1,2,3,4,Action and JSC Sports +1 - +10 (will purchase a card if needed)

What do I need? Dish size? best KU lnb? 4922 / 4669 decoder ?

I called someone off a reference on this thread, I was quoted N110,000 (steep) for a 4.7m dish and N30,000 of Al Jazeera 1yr subscription.

He said on a 4m dish is possible but the signal would go at sunset (5pm).

I am open to any cheaper alternative (not DSTV) if possible. It doesn't have to be Al Jazeera.
Also the dish size is a problem, because it's quite big.

Essentially, what is the smallest size dish /decoder / subscription I can watch the Premier League at my location?

Thanks in advance for your help.

fsb: Progressives, good morning. I went to Gtb to inquire about treasury bills of 91 day tenor and the guy said they only have for 30 day tenor at the rate of 6% per month according to him.

Meanwhile this people were supposed to open a savings account for me but they ended up doing current and charging me outrageous COT on my transaction this morning. Is it worth it buying treasury bills from a current account? Please advise...
Be wary of bad information. Some of these people don't know what they are talking about and quality of the information you get can be dependent on how good a mood the person you are speaking to is.

Always check and double check information when dealing with these banks.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 9:52am On Jul 27, 2013
While researching Ghana, I actually came across one article that rated the Ghanaian Cedi as the third worst currency in the world.

Very sensible pappilo, to factor in the currency.

Now since foreigners are limited to the 3 or 5 year bonds, the risk is real.
The longer the term of the bond, the more time the country / govt / currency has to go haywire.

This would now make sense for their govt to prevent non-citizens from buying short term bonds.
You can imagine some foreign investors or mutual fund managers from Europe / America invest $100 million dollars for 3-6months and scramming with their gains ( 6% / 11%) at maturity. Quick easy cash.

I still am contemplating purchasing the discount house product in Ghana that pays 22% per annum (and is short term).

Anybody out there have reservations about that? The discount house in question is NTHC Limited.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 6:26am On Jul 26, 2013
Generally, I've found that you need to at least domicile wherever you want to purchase these bills (via banks).
They want you to have an account with them from which they will debit the funds when they have successfully bid on your behalf.

When I inquired from one bank in Ghana about opening an account, they said I needed a residency permit (like really, for even a savings account?).

The Ghana rate (20-22%) is very attractive but the citizen requirement on the short term T-Bills would eliminate most of us on here (whom I expect are Nigerians). I am contemplating a roundabout investment through a Ghanaian Discount House product (something similar to Kakawa KGIF) which returns 20-24% per annum. I am only willing to risk N100,000 on that one however.

Unless you are investing large sums, I don't think it would be worth your while, logistics and all, to invest across borders. By the time you have travelled there to open account etc etc etc, you've eaten up your expected return.

A quick google search on South African Bonds tells me the rate is 5-6%. Not bad if you are coming from Europe or America (where the interest rates are near 0% right now), but certainly not the highest in Africa. In turn, you are buying securities of a more stable government. The risk is is far less.

Generally, T-Bill rates will hover around the country's central bank interest rate but will often be slightly higher.

Peace.

Forgot to add Ecobank to my list above.

No definite minimum, I told him N200,000 and he said that would be OK but they preferred N500,000 upwards.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by coderXO(m): 5:28pm On Jul 24, 2013
Done a little research the past couple of days. Going to a couple of banks and calling some others.

GTBank requires N500,000 for Nigerian FGN T-Bill investments.

Diamond Bank, N100,000.

Stanbic , their bid form clearly states: N100,000 minimum but the guy at the CS counter told me it is N500,000. I disagree with him.

Ghana T-Bills, 90 - 180 day tenor are purchasable only by Ghanians (Citizens).
Non-Ghanians are only allowed to purchase the longer term bond products, ( 3 or 5 yr)

Hopefully this will help someone.

Peace.

ayztech: my bank debits my account the net amount only , effectively leaving over the applicable interest figure. ie assuming the bid amt is N10 and the applicable int is N2, they'll debit my account N8 and on maturity credit my account N10. i tot that was general practice; didn't know one needs to stress for the interest like this.
