IbeOkehie: Nigerians....THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE...are to blame for their economic pains.
The current crisis has roots in the events of Jan 2012, when President Jonathan tried to do exactly what Milei has done in Argentina, he was trying to continue with the privatization & deregulation policies that PDP had championed since 1999. Those policies had revitalized banking, airlines, cement and telecoms. Unfortunately when President Jonathan tried to do the same in the petroleum sector by withdrawing fuel subsidy, the APC chieftains of the time, including Tinubu & Buhari, incited them against government. And they convinced Nigerians that "fuel subsidy does not exist".
The Nigerian people killed the very policies that were improving the Nigerian economy. Don't blame President Tinubu, he has no option but to start trying to clean up the mess he created in 2012 and 2015. It's important to ALWAYS remember this.
Good Luck to Nigerians. Zero over Ten. What hasthe saved funds from subsidy been used for? SUBSIDY. Yes. They increased the pay of idlers. Electricity subsidy. Executive subsidy. Hajj subsidy. Wastage unabated. Even if Jonathan had removed it, he would have continued with almajiri schools and eating. The structure is definitely benefitting you if you can turn a blind eye to the obvious wastage and ineffeciency from the top. Nigerians were right to reject the removal because the money saved is being wasted like always. |

grandstar: The country that's desperately needs Milei makeover isn't the US, but Brazil
The country needs to balance its books.
The primary causes of the budget deficit are very generous pensions and a bloated civil service. If the waste is cut, the budget should balance pronto.
Brazil needs to make its labor market flexible. A flexible market will not only lead to a job creating boom, nut will also bring down costs but boost productivity as well.
Lastly, it needs to cut needless red tape. instead of cutting jobs, make those on gov payroll truly productive to drive supply of essential goods n services up. |

Fren232: No, it wasn't. But his policies have solved some problems and created new ones. Problems solved: inflation has slowed down, budget surplus New problems: mass layoff, increasing unemployment, recession, above 50% poverty rate, all projects stopped, no roads built, no power project, no new hospitals. Do you think that is a fair trade off? the problems are natural consequences of the solution. Idlers need to be laid off and made productive instead of printing money to pay them. |

Politics › Re: Why Kemi Badenoch Is Calling Out Nigeria's Political Decay? by CodeTemplar: 5:03am On Dec 12, 2024 |
malali: Kemi Badenoch’s narrative about Nigeria is a spectacle of contradictions and selective memory. Her portrayal of Nigeria as a land of fear and corruption, while painting the UK as an idyllic haven, is not only simplistic but also reeks of opportunism. She seems to forget that every nation, including the UK, has its own historical baggage and systemic issues.
Corruption and Governance: Badenoch’s description of Nigerian corruption as a “cancer” is hardly groundbreaking. Corruption is a global issue, not confined to Nigeria. Her critique lacks depth, failing to acknowledge the complex socio-political factors at play.
Personal Experiences: Her tales of hardship in Nigeria, juxtaposed with her “middle-class” upbringing, seem exaggerated for effect. Many Nigerians have faced similar challenges without resorting to broad-stroke criticisms that serve personal political narratives. Atmosphere of Fear: The fear she describes is real but not unique to Nigeria. Crime and insecurity are global phenomena. Her dramatization serves more to sensationalize than to provide constructive critique.
Contrasting Nigeria with Britain: Comparing a 317-year-old UK with a 64-year-old Nigeria is absurd.Every nation develops at its own pace, and such comparisons ignore historical contexts like colonialism that have shaped both countries.
Critique of Nigerian Politics: Her criticism of Nigerian politics as self-serving ignores similar issues in Western politics. It’s convenient to highlight flaws abroad while glossing over domestic issues.
Emphasis on Personal Responsibility: Badenoch’s focus on personal responsibility ignores systemic barriers that many face. It’s easy to preach hard work when one’s narrative has been crafted to fit a specific political agenda.
Badenoch’s reflections are less about genuine concern for Nigeria and more about crafting a political persona that aligns with her ambitions in the UK. Her narrative lacks the nuance needed for a balanced understanding of Nigeria’s challenges and potential. Stop ranting like conservative party is going against APC. Most of you have been to UK so point out the flaws in their system also. |
