AZeD1: Erm no Power of scale doesn't apply except you don't know the meaning of power of scale.
The price of power is fixed, you are charged based on your consumption not on your buying capability. Power cannot be stored, so any power not evacuated is lost forever and you cannot get that money again hence power producers would not generate more than necessary. Also power is kind of a limited monopoly, you are under a particular disco whether you like it or not, its not like regular products that you can change suppliers when you like
I grew up in a power station, there's probably no power station I don't have at least on Engineer friend working. Lol . . It is economy of scale and not power of scale brother. You are so funny. It is a well known effect of scale of production. It applies to virtually all commercial ventures. Read the CCGT well again and stop being so naive sir. |

AZeD1: Lagos is not building a new Transmission network, they are working with the two discos (Ikeja and Eko) to utilize their current infrastructure. You must be a Cameroonian immigrant to say Lagos will utilize FG infrastructure. That statement is against the run of play in Nigerian politics. Plus that statement will be a paradox when compared to your earlier submission that a Transmission System of 7000MW can't handle a 10 000 MW load. |

AZeD1: I know what a combined cycle gas turbine is. That's because I showed it to you l. If you knew and understood it before you wouldn't have made this comment earlier: I don't get what you mean by large scale power plant with good scale of economy. Power prices doesn't depend on the size of the power station. A gas fired power station would depend on the price of gas so a bigger power station would actually consume more gas. |
Politics › Re: Lagos To Begin Embedded Power Project In July 2018 by CodeTemplar: 7:24pm On May 24, 2018 |
AZeD1: Nigeria currently has a Transmission capacity of 7500MW. It doesn't matter if you build power plant of 10000MW or 10 1000MW plants you cannot transmit more than the 7500MW available.
Like I said earlier, cost of power is regulated, so it doesn't matter if you have a big plant or a small one, you would still sell at the same price. Read the OP please. This thread is about Lagos state planning to build up around 3 GigaWatt over the next 5 years. The Transmission of 4 GigaWatt in Lagos is a different ball game entirely to the transmission of 10000MW in 36 states Some states have a single local government as big as Lagos alone. Now do the maths. |

Also note that the price of power is regulated and set by NERC although I believe Lagos has asked for some relief/exemption to reflect the true cost of production.
Also the Lagos state model is to build small power plants close to were they would be supplying so as to minimize energy loss from the ineffective distribution system we have. The bold isn't true. Research it please. Transmission systems do benefit from scale of economy also. |

enilove: Are you trying to say the Holy Quran and Holy Hadith's are not from God ? God will have mercy on you.
May be you don't know that some stories are left out of the Bible which Allah gave to Mohammad like this :
Volume 1, Book 5, Number 277:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, 'The (people of) Bani Israel used to take bath naked (all together) looking at each other. The Prophet Moses used to take a bath alone. They said, 'By Allah! Nothing prevents Moses from taking a bath with us except that he has a scrotal hernia.' So once Moses went out to take a bath and put his clothes over a stone and then that stone ran away with his clothes. Moses followed that stone saying, "My clothes, O stone! My clothes, O stone! till the people of Bani Israel saw him and said, 'By Allah, Moses has got no defect in his body. Moses took his clothes and began to beat the stone." Abu Huraira added, "By Allah! There are still six or seven marks present on the stone from that excessive beating."
In case you want to verify , go to Saudi , they will show you the stubborn stone with the marks thereof. Lol |

yemmight: I agree with you that not all the states have the capacity but those that have should be given. For instance in South-West Lagos, Ogun Ondo are capable. South-South - Delta, Edo, Rivers infact most oil producing states have the capacity to produce and in the North kano, Abuja, Kaduna, Sokoto are also capable. By so doing, FG will focus more on other infrastructures. Good observation but unfortunately some backward thinking region won't allow that. they want everywhere to be equally developed not minding the fact that some regions are more forward thinking. |

GavelSlam: Sorry, how is this different from what the Lagos state government is proposing? The pricing standard Lagos state govt has adopted in past for services to me is on the high side and that is why I used these words going by trends of Lagos always charging so high. If they don't plan it to deliver cheap power from foundation it could become expensive for industries considering that the market for most Lagos industries is competitive. |
Politics › Re: Lagos To Begin Embedded Power Project In July 2018 by CodeTemplar: 8:50am On May 24, 2018 |
GavelSlam: Suggest a solution. Thank you. Solution will be to build a large scaled power plant with good scale of economy to drive down price of the power that will be eventually sold to industries. Another point of note is being careful not to overprice the power sold and therefore kill off businesses with high power cost. Lagos already has the printing industry of West Africa for example and it will be so unwise to choke them off with high power rate. |

yemmight: I think the best way to handle power is to decentralize. Let each State manager their own energy. Too many project being managed by the Federal. I remember when Tinubu started Enron power project in 1999/2000. You can imagine if FG gave support and approval to such project, we should be talking about different stories today. And you know if this is successful in Lagos, other state will follow. Way to go Ambode. Can each state build her own transmission system from scratch? The answer is likely NO, and that gives the FG a firm control on power issue. In fact Lagos is one of the few states that can afford to build a brand new transmission infrastructure. I say this because Lagos has a small land mass and therefore will need no long distance equipments, Lagos has the cash, Lagosians have the buying power to offset initial capital investment. |

OkutaNla: The anti-Lagos pessimists and bad-belle merchants don land. Must you SE folks always antagonize every developmental initiative emanating from Lagos? Your kind want to enjoy stable electricity yet you don't want to pay for it -- even though you are already paying exhorbitantly via fueling and maintaining multiple generators.
Atleast Lagos is taking the bull by the horn to address the issue. Nothing stops any of your SE states from also coming up with similar or better inititative to compete with Lagos and attract businesses that you claim will be 'choked' by this Lag initiative, instead of displaying your bad-belle here as usual. I yarn the truth and see no need to tag me an anti-lagos pessimist. If they go ahead and include Oga's commission or cut as is rampant in most projects and PPP then it could affect the competitiveness and long term goal of the project. I am not a SE person for your info. |

Sounds good on paper but the ultimate market for energy is that of manufacturers who invest the energy consumed in productive use and going by trends of Lagos always charging so high above known market for their services it could end up choking businesses that depend heavily on power. |
