if brazil wins what does it change for the remaining south american teams? nothing either. though i agree that it's ghana's victory through and through you are forgetting one major point, THE WORLD CUP IS BEING HOSTED IN AFRICA FOR THE FIRST TIME. its a landmark, a milestone. africa has been calling for this for a while and now it has been granted it would have been a disgrace if one african team didnt leave the group stages, now we have one in the final eight. its a progress to be proud of and we should all rally behind them. remember that this achievement might give africa an extra space to make it 6 in total

I'll certainly be happy for them if they win but I still don't feel compelled to support them. I've tried but it'd be pretentious if I changed mouth all of a sudden. Maybe I need to warm up to them some more. At the same time, it's not like I'm supporting any other country I'm just curious to see who'll win and watching the mates is great fun.

And yes, the World Cup is being hosted in South Africa, when it's hosted in another cardinal point in Africa then to me at least, it'll stop being a novelty.

Maybe I'm just being too cynical, I can see the positives, but like I said, I'm playing Devil's Advocate here,
Sports / Re: Nigerians Wake Up We Are Nigerians Not Ghanaians by Cogito(m): 6:20pm On Jun 27, 2010
I'll play Devil's Advocate here.

The poster has a point. When the World Cup is over and Ghana wins what does it change for Somalia, South Africa or Cameroon? When the suspension of disbelief is over what then? It will be Ghana's win and nobody else's. I find it slightly troubling (and almost insulting) that Africans and Western media are ready to lump the whole of the continent into one country.

Obviously, they Black Stars played a great game against the USA and overall are a pretty good team. I'm happy for them, I am, but as an African do I feel compelled to support them? No. We've already failed as a footballing continent that only one of our countries managed to get to the group stages so if Ghana wins the World Cup, Africa didn't win, Ghana did.

Kudos to them.

One the other hand should we take this a lesson and try to manifest this unconditional love for our fellow African nation into other walks of life apart from football?

Dude speaks the truth.

Ok, seems you guys want to compare a 5 minute video shoot production with a full length film that is at least 90 minutes long. Again there is certainly no need for comparison because its basic simple common sense to note that shooting a movie is in no way comparable to shooting a short 5 minute musical video.

I accept that Nollywood indeed churns out craps in their numbers calling them movies, but the fact is that we all know that these guys contend with against all odds they deliver something that still makes them some sort of local champions within the entire African coast.

Musical videos are no doubt getting better by the day in Nigeria but to be frank these musical videos are basically just very colorful due to the use of the HD cams and probably very good video editing and effects but thats as good as they get nowadays. If you ask me i don't really see anything new in these much touted musical videos any longer. Capital Pictures seems to have their exhausted their box of ideas and creativity, while the other musical video directors are trying hard to be Clarence Peters,

My honest 2 cents undecided

Forget the complex effects that some of these music video have and go back to basics and you'll see that by and large the majority of Nollywood movies are far below mediocre. Simple tenants of filming: Camera Angle, Shot, Movement and Position can be used to enhance a great number of Nollywood films. Even if you're using a camcorder you can still make it visually appealing by playing around with those tenants I've mentioned, and that's before you even get to editing the film.

Music/Radio / Re: Fans Frown At Ngn1,000 Price Tag For Tuface’s Unstoppable Ii Album. by Cogito(m): 9:40pm On May 29, 2010
i said in my post even if it's HEAVEN RELEASE. you must consider the people buying.

it is expensive for the masses and might be a chicken change for the rich

Of which masses do you speak?

On average the price of digitally downloading an album in the UK is about £8 which translates to roughly 1,750 Naira.
1000 Naira is about £5.

That's a discount.

Granted, the UK is a much richer country but like I stressed in my previous reply International. He's looking beyond Naija.

THERE IS ONE THING WE ARE NOT GETTING HERE,

WHEN YOU WANT TO SELL ANYTHING AT ALL YOU SHOULD TRY LOOK THE STANDARD OF THE PEOPLE YOU ARE SELLING FOR (No BEEF).

FOR EXAMPLE.
A CIVIL SERVANT THAT EARNS A MINIMUM WAGE OF 7,500 NAIRA EVERY MONTH AND HE IS A FANS OF 2FACE GO REMOVE N,1000 OF HIS SALARY GO BUY ONE CD??, PLEASE LET'S THINK WELL.

HE GO PAY HOUSE RENT N1,500
GO BUY FOOD FOR HOUSE AT LEAST N3,000 REMAINING N4000, AND FAMILY DEY THERE OF MAMA, PAPA, TITHE FOR CHURCH OR MOSQUE.

HOW MUCH HE GO REMAIN WHEN HE BUT THE CD BECAUSE HE LIKE 2FACE

2FACE SHOULD TRY AND LOOK AT IS PEOPLE. THE PEOPLE HE IS SINGING FOR. AT WOST THE LEVEL BY WHICH NIGERIA IS NOW THE CD SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN N200. EVEN IF IS HEAVEN'S EDITION grin shocked

SO FOR ME N1000 FOR A CD IS TOO MUCH

ALL THE PEOPLE WEY THEY TALK SAY HE NO TOO MUCH

HOW MUCH BE THE OPERATING SYSTEM WEY YOU DEY USE.

THE PRICE IS TOO MUCH MEN

That's all well and good but there's one thing you and a lot of people are forgetting in this thread.

International Edition ergo (probably) International Release

Make of that what you will.

Travelista:

As for Kele and his talk about how he can't get with Nigerian culture because of their stance on homosexuality, women's rights and elders always being right; dude, whatever. He's worried about the plight of women but not that of children? Or corruption? Or the fact that tribalism is still a hindrance to permanent unity? What he really means is that he can't hang with Naija culture and elders always being right because they come down like a ton of bricks on him because he's gay; he just threw women in there for good measure. Now, he can't enjoy Nigerian folks, food or music because of those 3 issues?! He needs to book an appointment with a psychiatrist ASAP.

He clearly has his priorities mixed up.

This is why Nigeria is going nowhere fast! We claim to want better, but never want to pay the price. Not for anything. Tuface has the right to sell his intellectual property for whatever price he wants. Is he forcing anyone to buy? Direct your negative energy at the useless rulers that have milked us so dry that most peeps can't afford to buy a 1k album, not at a brother tryna make his legit dough.

Simple and short.

Enemies of Progress, you and others like you on this thread.

What is wrong with our own Science Fiction? You may not be tired of the endless stream of melodrama that Nollywood produces but a lot of people sure are. Forget the genres sef, let this film challenge Nollywood producers to improve their production values. The use of green-screen techniques and the like in this trailer are very impressive indeed.

If anything, respect the crew for the scope of their vision. Imagine what it would look like if they had the likes of Digital Domain (http://www.digitaldomain.com/) handling their CGI? So feel free to stay where you are while the rest of us leave you behind,

The Guiness billboards that say very simply in large white text. "THE POWER OF NAIJA" right next to a glass of Guinness. It also has the Super Eagles logo so it's a world cup thing. It's just the text there, "THE POWER OF NAIJA".
I love it, I don't drink Guinness but that advert was powerful.

Pay your rent. God doesn't need your money (to anybody that thinks he does, prove it to me)
If, God Forbid, you lose your house because you fell short on your rent and you then ask God why? He might say, what about that fat lump of money I gave to you the other day? You went to give it to that man did you not?

Sha, it's your decision.
Gaming / Re: The Best Game You've Ever Played by Cogito(m): 10:32pm On Feb 03, 2010
For me it has to be a list

Zelda-Ocarina of Time
Mystical Ninja Starring Geomon (N64)

The Witcher
Dragon Age: Origins
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Bayonetta
Metal Gear Solid 4
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (I would kill to have the GTA 4 graphics engine applied to this game)
The Sims 1-3
Simcity 4
The Movies
Call of Duty 4 (The Single-player campaign)

Those are some of the games off the top of my head that really stood out from the rest for me.

Politics / Re: Rich Kids Joyriding/street racing In Abuja - Video by Cogito(m): 3:14pm On Jan 19, 2010
Abeg, this is brilliant. What needs to be done now is for it to be regulated. Clearly, from the crash in the video, standing on the sides of the road is not safe for watching these guys do their thing. The rich people participating in this thing should invest in building a race track in Abuja somewhere where things can be done in an organised fashion. If anything, this video proves that there is a market for this kind of thing in Naija.
Seriously, imagine the possiblities,
