Thank you for this. Even though I don't drive and I'm not even in the country I'm happy to see people like you thinking about how to move forward instead of bleating over split milk. Keep it up. |
Music/Radio / Re: 5 Disappointing Albums Of 2011 by Cogito(m): 1:06pm On Dec 26, 2011 |
I was a bit shocked by the inclusion of Neato C but the only other one I listened to on that list was Darey's album. I have to agree with the sentiments of the OP. I really think Darey tries too hard to be commercial, he's got a beautiful soul voice but, in my opinion at least, pop doesn't really suit him. |
Music/Radio / Re: Nigerian Music Is Better Than America's by Cogito(m): 12:53pm On Dec 26, 2011 |
It doesn't need to be a competition. You can like Nigerian music as well as American music, Chinese music, Spanish music and whatever. At the end of the day it's rather unproductive to compare Seun Kuti to Gucci Mane, wouldn't you agree? Edit: If it's a case of which industry is more advanced, then obviously it's America. |

Great stuff guys. I also agree with 2buff, the framerate looked a bit choppy in the video. |

Literature / Re: Do Nigerians Read/Buy Comic Books? by Cogito(m): 3:50pm On Jun 09, 2011 |
I say go for it. I think there's definitely an audience. I haven't read a comic book in a while but I do enjoy reading fantasy and I've always yearned for well produced Nigerian fantasy/sci fi novels, video games, movies and what have you. |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Let's Make An African Super Hero Comic by Cogito(m): 1:30am On Jun 09, 2011 |
While the first post is factually incorrect, I support the idea of an African Super Hero Comic. Actually, a Nigerian super hero comic/Graphic Novel. And a Nigerian Video Game Studio. P.S I only specify "Nigerian" because, Africa is big o, in case some people forgot. It'll be very hard to rep for the whole continent and please everybody too. |
Gaming / Re: L.a Noire: How Is The Gameplay So Far? by Cogito(m): 11:26am On Jun 01, 2011 |
tboy1: In the beginning it's quite simple and straightforward, there's a lot of hand holding from the game, but it slowly gets more challenging with each case you're given. I'm still yet to finish it though. |
Gaming / Re: L.a Noire: How Is The Gameplay So Far? by Cogito(m): 3:24am On Jun 01, 2011 |
I personally think it's superb. It isn't sandbox in the GTA or Just Cause 2 sense. Since you play as a detective in the game you're actually chastised for a wreaking havok when possible. You can't even draw your gun whenever you want. The facial animation is amazing. At first, I wasn't too blown away but then I looked at some other games that recently came out (The Witcher 2) and I realised L.A Noire had spoiled me silly. It's that good. So far, it has an interesting plot and great acting. The main draw of the game, the interrogations, are incredible. It really puts you edge trying to figure out whether someone is being honest or not. Here's a video that explains it more clearly: http://kotaku.com/5802203/14-minutes-of-la-noires-unexpected-thrills |
Literature / Re: Name Your Favourite Sci-fi And Fantasy Writers! by Cogito(m): 7:46pm On May 25, 2011 |
Ah! I LOVED "Time For Adventure"!!!!! I still think about it from time to time. I wish I could get my hands on a copy. I'm all about Robert Jordan at the moment. Currently reading book 11 of The Wheel of Time. Amazing. I've only read two Philip K. manliness novels; "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" and "Ubik". Both were amazing in my opinion. @ekt_bear I'd definitely recommend those two. I recently read Tom Holt's "Blonde Bombshell" and absolutely loved it. It was very humourous. Also, "Brave New World" is some trippy stuff, kinda in the same vein as "1984". |

This isn't new. We've had a Nigeria Apple Website for a while now, what we should be clamouring for is iTunes Nigeria or for someone to fill that void. |

Wait, aren't these the same people that were pushing HD-DVD with Toshiba? They even released a HD-DVD add on drive for the Xbox 360. The long term future may be digital downloads and on-demand streaming but physical media is far from dead. |

Education / Re: Reinvent Fraternities In Nigerian Universities? by Cogito(m): 12:31pm On Sep 23, 2010 |
I like the idea and I applaud you for it. If I were a dean I would certainly endorse it. However I almost feel like you'll need to build an entirely new private University to start with these ideas. Between that and trying to start in the current tertiary educational climate, I'm not sure which would be more stressful, honestly. |

Business / Re: Video Game Business In Lagos by Cogito(m): 11:27pm On Aug 29, 2010 |
First of all, I love that you want to do this. I'm not really sure what obstacles you'll face but hopefully you'll find a way to overcome them. Like some posters here have mentioned you might want to think of expanding your enterprise rather than moving completely or even using this as a way to gradually phase out of S.A. Another poster recommended getting into the modding/chipping market. I would only recommend this as a short term solution. I say this because I'm hopeful that sometime down the line Nigeria would become a recognised gaming location i.e "Playstation Network Nigeria" and "Xbox Live Nigeria" and if Sony and Microsoft or Nintendo establish proper presences in Nigeria they don't take very kindly to those kind of practises. Good luck to you though, I hope it works out for you! |

Family / Re: Is Marriage Now Old-fashioned? by Cogito(m): 11:32am On Jul 19, 2010 |
Maybe the romantic idea of marriage is getting old-fashioned. There are a variety of reason's why divorce and the like is becoming more popular such as the increasingly easy legislative process and the change in attitudes to marriage. When you say: ", or the guys can't just keep the sacred vows?", this has been going on for centuries but it's either divorce was illegal or the stigma surrounding divorce was enough of a deterrent. Like somebody here mentioned it's very possible that a lot of people just jump into marriage without fully understanding what they're doing. In addition, just because a marriage doesn't break up doesn't mean it's a happy one. The partners could be living in an empty shell marriage simply bound together by contractual obligations if you will. Personally, I'm torn. If I get married should I have a "White Wedding" or just a Tradition Wedding, or both? It seems cumbersome to have both when they serve the same purpose. Or should I get married at all? Cohabitation sounds appealing since the thinking behind it seems to be: "If there's is love and understanding, all will be well", but does that seem a little naive? Will she take my name or just hyphenate it? In addition, it's easier to up and leave. It's a fairly complex issue. |

Sports / Re: Nigerians Wake Up We Are Nigerians Not Ghanaians by Cogito(m): 11:45am On Jun 28, 2010 |
The crux of the issue here, for me at least, is the whole "we are one" idea. It would be all well and good if the camaraderie had shown itself outside of football but maybe this tournament is exactly the wake up call we need. We can shout "we are the same" as much as we want but we are still divided. Tut: As nice as that sounds we are not one big entity nor do I think we should see ourselves as such. If I agreed with you, we should then I ask, why should it stop there? As a citizen of the world I'm supporting Germany, shebi we were ALL Africans at one point? And the world was one big entity at a time. Can't you see you've already created the division? Why can't Saharan and sub-Saharan Africa be one big entity? After all a number of people believe the Ancient Egyptians were black. We can coexist peacefully and respect each other traditions, cultures, political make-up and the like but we are not one big entity. |
