Ignorance is seeing "jump starting" as 24V. Do you connect the slave battery to the car being boosted in series? Because that will effectively give a voltage the sum of both.

Automotive batteries are boosted in parallel. Even if 3 batteries are connected in parallel, the resultant voltage remains 12 (assuming the 3 batteries are 12V).
