The reason why Southern Politicians are criticizing it is because the amount of money involved in the project is huge.

Lagos-Calabar Coaster Highway: $2.05 Billion US Dollars.
In naira = N2.8 trillion

Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway: $1.47 Billion US Dollars
In naira = N2 trillion

Total cost for the two roads is $3.52 Billion US Dollars.

This amount can fix our healthcare and electricity.

Tinubu administration is the only govt that gives Southern roads a top priority. Yet people in the south are the ones criticising a project meant to better their lives. Is it a curse or what?

Even Donald Duke that wasted billions of naira on moribund Tinapa park is making mouth 👄. He said there is already A Road from lagos to calabar. The question is why should it be a road? What is wrong in having 2 to 3 alternative roads from lagos to calabar?

Sokoto Badagry highway is even longer than Lagos- calabar coastal highway yet no northerner ever comes out to condemn the project.

under normal circumstances, there is no reason why southern Nigeria should not have good road network than the north because most economic activities take place in the south.

They will complain of bad roads but when govt is ready to fix them, they are the same people that will condemn it

As with other large cities in other parts of the world, the Lagos state govt have done well in creating various means of transportation to cater for millions of residents - Road network/BRT, Ferry service, now Train services.. it’s very commendable.

They need to open up more TRAIN routes - Ikorodu to Island connecting various routes, Island to Lekki/Epe, etc. Also expand the ferry services.

We can’t spend anyhow from the reserve, to take care of what is happening locally. The external reserve is to take care of paying for what Nigerians buy from abroad.
We have corespondent banks abroad where these moneys are. They facilitate how vendors/suppliers are paid on our behalf.

Assuming you buy something from AliExpress and have paid, CBN pays from the reserves abroad, on your behalf and holds your Naira back in its account with the commercial bank you are using.

The higher the reserve, the stronger our Naira.

One ‘were’ up there was saying the external reserve is people’s money from diaspora. It is not. Recipients of money from diaspora have collected their money in Nigeria either in cash or as transfer to their accounts.

On borrowing issue you raised, you use another man’s money to run business, and keep yours. That’s the reason we are borrowing, since we don’t have all the cash at once.
When you borrow, you spread out how you pay back, over a long period of time and you pay in piecemeal. It doesn’t put you under pressure. Your own money is still intact.

If our government is to spend our whole money on projects, there won’t be any money left. And incase there is emergency, where do we run to?

Same thing is applicable in business world — use long term borrowing to fund long term projects. Use short term borrowing to fund short term projects. The interest you will pay on it is passed to consumers, as part of the prices they pay for your goods or services.

If there was a legal basis, it shouldn't be reversed because of political pressure or public backlash. Either way, this raises serious questions about the agency's independence and undermines public confidence in its impartiality.

It was an overreach by EFCC even though they had a good reason to suspect funds are being diverted for political patronage.

Kudos to Mr. President for making this call. It is the only sensible and democratic decision in this matter. No matter how convenient it may be for the APC, an undemocratic precedent that attacks the heart of the sacred principle of separation of powers and independence of each level of government should not be allowed.
