OPCNAIRALAND:The binis migrated from Sudan. Their first place of settlement is somewhere around Jos in plateau state ( which still bear evidence of their staying there), before they finally settle down in present Edo state. from there they fought and conquered mant towns and and kingdoms. at the height of their peak, the bini empire stretches from Dahomey (Present day Benini Republic) to Asaba, from okene (kogi) to the river-line areas in Delta state. In those days, taxes are normally collected from conquered areas by Bini princes and returned to the palace. It was during one of such voyage to dahomey to collect taxes that Eko ( Lagos) was founded. Till date the Oba of Lagos still takes command from the Oba of Benin. Binis have a well documented evidence of their origin and history which are everywhere up till today. |

Oil giants record loses in fourth quarter results West Texas Intermediated (WTI) crude oil declined by 6.33 per cent at $31.62 a barrel and Brent fell by 0.14 per cent to $34.69 a barrel as hopes for a deal on production did not scale through. Russia had last week sent mixed signals about possible cooperation with Organisation of Petroleum Corporation (OPEC) to support prices. It first suggested it should start talking to the cartel before saying there was no decision to do so. As crude oil prices continued to fluctuate, oil giants are counting losses in their respective financial results. Specifically, British Petroleum (BP), yesterday reported yearly loss of $6.5 billion for 2015. It noted that despite strong operational performance and growing cost reductions, the lower underlying result was predominantly driven by the impact of steeply lower oil and gas prices on BP’s upstream segment, which reported a pre-tax loss for the quarter. BP said it would cut 3,000 jobs in its downstream unit by the end of 2017 on top of 4,000 cuts already announced in oil and gas production as part of a $2.5 billion restructuring programme announced last year. ... Peterside disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting of the party in Port Harcourt on Saturday. “I will be in every local government and villages to campaign for our candidates. I want to assure you that we shall not lose one seat. “All you need to do as stakeholders and supporters is to do your part. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised to provide a level playing ground for all parties,’’ he said. THERE is apprehension among residential and commercial electricity consumers across the country as the new Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO 2015) takes off today amid doubts over commensurate electricity supply. A meeting called by the regulator, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) on Friday failed to convince the manufacturers to drop their earlier opposition to the new tariff regime. The Guardian learnt that at the meeting with NERC management, MAN insisted that its members would not discuss the tariffs because the matter was in court. A committee was subsequently set up to discuss an out-of-court settlement. While employers under the aegis of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) demanded an improved electricity supply, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the new tariffs. Speaking with The Guardian in an exclusive interview, the Director General of NECA, Olusegun Oshinowo, said employers of labour were spending huge resources to power their operations, which contribute to the overall cost of production. culled from Guardian |
