For all those who would flood here to throw tantrums, do this little math:
Your Hero was taxing Nigerians over 30 naira per litre of fuel. If you buy just 2litres, you've been "taxed" 60 naira. Do an estimate of the amount the government was making with regards to out total daily consumption- that was what they were realising under the phantom SURE-p. Pray tell, what exactly did they do with all that money??
Can't wait for a comprehensive probe of that programme- I'm sure we'd stumble on another gargantuan "gate". Go get a brain |

Politics › Vandalism: FG May Acquire Tarkwa Bay, Kachikwu Warns Community by comos(op): 10:39am On Jan 26, 2016 |
Minister of State for Petroleum Resource, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, yesterday warned indigenes of Tarkwa Bay, host to the Atlas Cove Jetty, Nigeria’s biggest petroleum products reception, that the community was at risk of possible acquisition by the Federal Government, if they continued to shield pipeline vandals and oil thieves.
The minister, who issued the warning when he paid an unscheduled visit to the area, said: “We will take over the community if such activities persist,” and also told the community that they were also culpable in the criminal activities going on in the location.
Kachikwu, who expressed concern over the dilapidation of the national asset, noted that the jetty had assumed a prime spot for both local and international bunkering by vandalising the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC’s pipelines bearing refined petroleum products running across the island.
The Minister, who also doubles as the Group Managing Director, GMD, NNPC, took a tour of the community and was taken aback by the level of the illegal activities being perpetuated by vandals for their own personal gains at the expence of majority Nigerians.
During the tour, it was discovered that practically everyone in the community was involved in the illicit trade, as every hut or shanty visited was filled with loads of 50 litre jerry cans, with holes pierced through the pipelines to siphon products meant to be transported to other jetties and depots for onward distribution in the market.
He said: “What I have seen here today is amazing, very frustrating and an eye opener for the problem we are facing. I don’t think Nigerians understand the magnitude of the problems at hand; the more solution you bring in the more problems show up.
“This is a massive operation as you can see, it like a moving train where you can move two to three trucks using jerry cans and transport them through the water to different countries. This is a good discovery but the question is, how many more of this do we have to deal with? It is an eye opener but it’s very frustrating.”
He said the discovery of the hide-outs was made possible by the efforts of the extra security put in place by the government.
Noting that there was no immediate solution at hand, in view of the magnitude of the criminal activities, he however said solutions were a long term. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/vandalism-fg-may-acquire-tarkwa-bay-kachikwu-warns-community/ |

Politics › Marketers Accuse FG Of Encouraging Market ‘monopoly’ by comos(op): 10:00am On Jan 26, 2016 |
PRIVATE and independent oil marketers have accused the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, of encouraging a monopolistic system in the downstream petroleum sector run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and major marketers. The accusation followed the PPPRA’s introduction from January 1st of a new pricing template of N86.50/litre for premium motor spirit, PMS, also called petrol, as well as what they described as the lopsided import licence award, which favoured more the NNPC and the majors.
According to the independent marketers, current downstream operation, especially as regards refined petroleum products is fraught with a lot of irregularities tending toward monopoly.
Contentious issues: Among the contentious issues in the new PPPRA pricing template include: PMS sales losses, NNPC’s monopoly of the household kerosene, HHK market, and higher than stipulated ex-depot price of automotive gas oil, AGO also called diesel at Pipelines and Products Marketing Company, PPMC, a subsidiary of NNPC.

Politics › Edo Gov Poll: It’s Wrong To Say Only Bini Candidate Can Win by comos(op): 9:49am On Jan 26, 2016 |
AHEAD of this year’s governorship election in Edo State, former governor the state and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, has said that the assertion that only a Bini man can win the forthcoming governorship election in the state was wrong, adding that he remains the best aspirant of the party to succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole and, therefore, deserves to be supported by all the leaders.
He urged delegates of the party to be wary of aspirants whose only credential is money, stressing the need for them to cast their votes based on the credentials and track records of the aspirants and not how rich they are or the geographical zone they hail from.
Osunbor is one of the APC governorship aspirants and hails from Edo Central senatorial zone of the state. He addressed newsmen, yesterday, at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, secretariat in Benin City.
The Prof. of Law explained that he decided to remain calm over his ambition all along in order to respect the instruction by Governor Oshiomhole that governorship aspirants must not distract his developmental projects.
Noting that he has respect for all other aspirants of the party, Prof Osunbor said he considered himself the most suitable candidate, adding that the belief that only a Bini (Edo South) candidate can win the election had been proved wrong in the past, notably in 2012 when a non-Bini man defeated a Bini man with a wide margin.
He said: “I am not unmindful of arguments about which senatorial zone’s turn it is to produce the next governor. I believe that this is a legitimate issue to raise in order to ensure fairness, equity and justice amongst the component parts of the state, Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North. Nevertheless, I want to be assessed based on my antecedents and record of performance rather than simply on arguments based on zoning,” he stated.

Oil prices fell by 3.5 per cent yesterday, as exceptionally mild temperatures in the early part of the winter in Japan, Europe and the United States – alongside weak economic sentiment in China, Brazil, Russia and other commodity-dependent economies, continue to affect demand.
Brent crude, the global benchmark, was down by $1.13, or 3.5 per cent, at $31.04 a barrel, losing more than two per cent from its closing price on Friday, when Brent surged by10 per cent.
The announcement by Iraq of excessive production record, which was pushed into the already saturated crude oil market, also hit hard on prices. ...

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has challenged the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed to make public names of the 15 former governors and 55 Nigerians that he claimed stole N1.34 trillion between 2006 and 2013 or keep his mouth shut permanently.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “The reality is that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government has destroyed the economy within eight months in power and rather than look for solutions to the problems facing Nigeria, Lai Mohammed and his cohorts are branding bogus figures about stolen money just to cover up their lack of solution to the country’s economic problems.”
