INDUSTRIALIZATION: IMO BENEFITS AS AfDB MOBILIZES $540M FOR SPECIAL AGRO-INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING ZONES

Following the partnership with Nigerian Government for the pilot phase of the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones to be located in Imo State and other six States, the African Development Bank (AfDB) mobilizes $540m for the project.

Speaking after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at State House Abuja today, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the Bank disclosed that: “The African Development Bank has approved a total of $210 million while the Islamic Development Bank and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have approved $170 million and $160 million respectively, towards the program.”

Recall that early this year, Governor Hope Uzodimma participated, as a focal Governor, in the signing of partnership deed with the Bank for the program.

The program which aims to combat the rising global food insecurity, would greatly position Imo State in the circuit of economies proffering solutions to the food crisis, while creating employment opportunities for Ndi Imo.

IT'S MY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

It is exactly one year today since I was sworn in as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on April 27, 2021.

We give God glory for sparing our lives and making it possible for us to witness this day. For this, we are indeed grateful.

We also appreciate all those that made our journey thus far a success, especially our governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, and Minister of State for Education, Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, HCN, and a host of other party leaders and stakeholders.

Many thanks too to the good people of Okigwe Zone (Imo North) for believing in us and entrusting their mandate to our care.

We are delighted that within this short period, we have been able to justify their trust in us and brought home a lot of democracy dividends.

Within our one year in the Senate, we have sponsored bills and moved motions; secured several major Federal Government interventions, such as the N30, 000 Survival Funds from the Bank of Industry from which not less than 400 persons of Imo North benefitted; N60,000 Special Public Works Programme, with not less than 300 beneficiaries; N500,000 Covid-19 Relief Loan, with over 200 beneficiaries; N60,000 Job Security Stipends and N100,000 National Directorate of Employment Loan, targeting not less than 600 persons. In all, several Imo North constituents have benefitted from these intervention programmes, which have alleviated the pains and boosted the economy of many households, families and communities in the zone.

We have also promoted the Classroom Libraries Project in primary schools in the country, using at least 18 primary schools in Imo North as pilots. The idea is to revive the reading culture in our children. We have also motivated teachers through cash awards to elicit their commitment and passion for this project.

We have shown our love for sports by promoting sports through a football academy and also supported Okigwe youths and their football team to participate in a competition in Enugu.

We have also selected five youths from each local government, a total of 30 beneficiaries, as participants in our cinematography academy programme. The aim is to train the lucky individuals to become experts in videography, documentary photography, video and picture editing. Ultimately a total of 300 youths from the zone (50 from each LGA) shall be empowered at the end of the exercise.

Also, we were not found wanting during the flooding disaster in some parts of Imo North, especially Amauzari in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area. Apart from visiting and giving personal donations to victims, we also mobilised the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to address the plight of the people. We are grateful that NEMA mobilised immediate assessment of the damages for remedial action and extended relief to the victims while promising to find a permanent measure to forestall future flooding.

Similarly, the yearly flooding challenge around Isinweke-Lowa, Ihitte Uboma LGA is currently being tackled permanently.

Only last month, we organised a six-day medical outreach across the entire zone.

Perhaps, our greatest achievement is in the power sector because of our belief that power is at the root of the failure or success of any business. So, we moved a motion on the urgent need to construct the Power Transmission Substation in Okigwe LGA for rapid industrial growth and drew the attention of the senate to the anomalous situation in Okigwe, headquarters of Imo North Senatorial District. This substation had been approved and abandoned since 2003 but we took it up from where the late Senator Ben Uwajumogu left off and urged the Federal Ministry of Power to urgently construct the already approved but abandoned Okigwe 132/33KVA transmission substation as well as to upgrade the Okigwe power facility to a district station. This request was granted and, consequently, three projects were approved for the area and are at an advanced stage of construction.

Additionally, we have installed solar panels in some parts of the constituency and donated transformers to others in order to improve the power supply in those areas as well as drilled boreholes and constructed roads for some communities.

We have no doubt that these projects, some of which had been completed or at an advanced stage of completion, have revived the economic and social life of the people and shall contribute to stemming criminal activities, unemployment and youth restiveness in the zone.

We are still work in progress, and as we move into the second year of our representation, we are certain that a lot more shall be done for our people. For us, the call to serve is not negotiable, and serve we must.

UZODIMMA LIGHTS UP OWERRI/ORLU ROAD

The shared prosperity administration of Distinguished Sen. Hope Uzodimma has commenced installation of street lights on the 37km dual carriage Owerri/Orlu road even as the reconstruction of road is just nearing completion.

The lighting project which is done in good faith to prevent road crashes, armed robberies and other criminal activities especially at nights along the road, have been applauded by residents and will be completed in the coming weeks.


Recall that a week ago, His Exellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had granted his request to commission the Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads in May, 2022 while expressing optimism that the federal government would be moved to compensate the Imo government for embarking on the projects.

However, the contractors handling the project, Craneburg, had given assurance that they would be ready by next month, having achieved 90 per cent completion.

I am saddened by the news of the explosion at Ohaji/Egbema which claimed the lives of young people involved in the act of illegal oil bunkery in the state and i wish to extend my condolences to the immediate family and the good people of Ohaji/Egbema over this great loss.

Illegal oil bunkering like every other criminal act is a pure sabotage to the economy of the state and nation at large which has continued to rob the people of their common patrimony.

It is worrisome as to why young people will continue to choose criminality especially one that puts their life in great danger as oil bunkering and calls for rethink and a change of attitude to avert any future occurrence of this magnitude.

While we continue to support the stand of the shared prosperity government of Gov. Hope Uzodimma against criminality and illegal oil bunkering in the state, we appeal to all those involved in the illicit act to immediately put an end to it else the long arm of the law will surely catch up with them.

ISOPADEC under my leadership will collaborate with the state government, Ministry of Petroleum and other relevant stakeholders/bodies to assess the level of damages caused by the explosion and carry out all necessary measures to avoid further damages and future reoccurrence.

GOV. UZODIMMA REASSURES ORLU ZONE OF SAFETY AND DEVELOPMENT

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has reassured the safety of lives and properties of Orlu zone and the *State* at large.

Governor Hope Uzodimma in his expression of concern on the happenings in the region, made the affirmation at the Orlu Zone Development Forum Summit on Peace and Development held at Nkwerre Country Club.

At the peace and development summit, the Governor had warned aggrieved Politicians to embrace peace and shun sponsorship of *violence.*

To such politicians he said, ‘’I cannot be intimidated because I have come to serve and would like to be remembered for good governance and lasting legacies that will mark me out from other politicians who are self-centered and self-seeking."

The Governor advised the Forum on the need to set-up a think-tank that would develop a blue-print on the needed sustained peace and development in Orlu.

The Governor further reiterated his divine mandate and leadership from God on Ndi Imo as he will not fail God or the people of Imo State to ensure peace and development not only to the Orlu region but the entire State.

The Governor of Imo State, Sen. Hope Uzodimma has expressed his condolences to the families that lost their loved ones on Saturday after the ill-fated oil bunkering explosion at Ohaji/Egbema while he joins the host community in mourning over their loss.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma has expressed his sadness over the incident, describing it as an unfortunate occurrence which underscores the basis of his fight against crime and criminality as well as his visible stand against economic sabotage in the State.

He expressed his worry as to why people will continue to indulge in such a dangerous crimes knowing that the resultant effect could cost them their lives and called for a halt by those who are into it and urged those considering going into the illegal venture to desist from it in order to save lives.

Gov. Uzodimma reiterated that his administration, from inception has been waging war against illegal oil bunkering in the state and it has continued to yield positive results despite some criminal elements are still indulging in the illicit act.

He further warned that his administration will no longer take it lightly on those operating illegal refineries in the State as well as those patronizing them and he has instructed security operatives to comb the area to ensure that those operating in their hideouts are arrested and prosecuted to avert a reoccurrence.

In the meantime, Gov. Hope Uzodimma has directed the state Commissioner for Petroleum, Rt. Hon. Goodluck Nana Opiah to undertake an assessment of the level of damage caused by the explosion in the area and promised to implement all necessary measures to avert any further reoccurrence.

PRESIDENT BUHARI TO COMMISSION THE OWERRI / ORLU AND OWERRI / OKIGWE ROADS UPON COMPLETION

His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) has graciously approved to commission the ongoing construction of Owerri-Orlu and Owerri-Okigwe roads upon completion next month.

This was disclosed by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma after a courtesy visit to Mr President at the Villa for a progress report on the ongoing road constructions and projects in the State.

It is therefore worthy of note that the roads which are Federal roads are currently being reconstructed by Imo State Government with dual carriage for the Owerri-Orlu road and expanded width for the Owerri-Okigwe road, as approved by Mr President.

IMO SECURITY AND CRIMINAL SILENCE
Some well meaning indigenes of Imo State have before now expressed the view that the spate of insecurity in the state has more of political undertones than outright criminality.
Unfortunately, not only have the generality of the people failed to pay the needed attention to this, those who have made this position known have been shouted down by agents of the very elements who, either by design or default, goad on the criminal.
After a thorough appraisal of the current state of affairs, THE IMO COALITION FOR JUSTICE, PEACE AND TRUE DEMOCRACY, a non-governmental, non partisan, non religious organization, that is determined to return Imo State to the path of social harmony, has come to the conclusion that it is high time Imolites as a people began to interrogate the matter with all the seriousness it deserves.
The organization wishes to state unequivocally that it shares the view that politicians in the state, both overtly and covertly, are in support of the persistent attacks and killings going on.
In the first place, it is not a hidden matter that a few elements have been linked as masterminds of the atrocities by apprehended criminals while under interrogation. Initially, Imolites, indeed Nigerians, had thought that the lead would make way for a thorough and robust interrogation into the spate of insecurity in the state but unfortunately, that has not been the case. Rather, those leads seem to have led the security agencies to nowhere. And we ask: Why?
Second, this organization is of the firm belief that the silence of some top politicians in the state on the matter of insecurity should be viewed with a lot of concern.. Agreed that it is incumbent upon the government of the day to guarantee the safety of the lives and property of citizens, it needs no exaggeration to state that things have taken such a dimension that all hands must be on deck. But what we rather have is a regime of both connivance at the persistent violence and outright collaboration between some politicians and the criminals.
We state without any fear of contradictions that the indifference being shown by some highly placed politicians in the state amounts to a clear approval of the activities of these criminals.
As far as we are concerned, it is a deliberate act of perfidy against the generality of the people for a section of the political class to see the spate of insecurity in the state as a weapon for partisan opposition. As already noted, granted that the government of the day owes the people the explanations, it is no longer a hidden matter that some elements in the state are more interested in reaping political capital out of the current situation than in helping in returning normalcy for the good of the generality of the people.
For purposes of clarity, we would no longer hesitate in calling out some elements who have had the privileged of occupying positions of leadership but have, for purely selfish or partisan interests, chosen to look the other way while their own kit are kin are being roasted by criminals.
Take His Excellency, Chief Achike Udenwa, who governed the state for eight years. Today, Orlu local government area, where he hails from, has been under siege by hoodlums for the past two years. Yet, he has not uttered a word either in sympathy for his people or in condemnation of the criminals.
Then, we have a serving senator, His Excellency, Chief Rochas Okorocha, whose only reported intervention is for calling on the federal government to declare a state of emergency on his state. We have Hon. Jerry Alagboso whose local government area, Orsu, is now a safe haven for terrorists and yet not a word has come from him. Ditto for Jeff Ojinika who hails from the same Orsu.
Where are the likes of Hon. Mayor Eze, Thankgod Ezeani and Jones Onyereri who have had the opportunity of representing their people in the National Assembly. Why is mum their watch word? With the entire Orlu zone under siege, how will the people participate in the ongoing political processes to elect their next crop of leaders? Can any electioneering campaign take place in the zone under the present circumstances?
Down Owerri zone, we have the likes of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, who is believed to be warning upon again to contest another governorship election in 2023. But we ask: Why should the good people of Owerri zone, or indeed Imo state as a whole, entrust Ihedioha with their mandate when he has abandoned them when they needed him most. As a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives what has been Rt. Hon. Ihedioha’s contributions to ending insecurity in the state, with all the connections he has. None, Imolites know of. Meanwhile, criminal elements are said to be hibernating in at least three cells within his own local government area, Aboh Mbaise.
His handlers boast of his taciturnity but as far as we are concerned, it is one borne out of a wish to have insecurity persist in the state to justify his (their) claim that things would not have been this way if he had been removed as governor. In any case, it is not a hidden matter that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he claims to lead, takes delight in cheering the so called unknown gunmen each time they strike.
In conclusion, we appeal to these so-called leaders who have chosen to either directly or indirectly aid and abet criminality in the state to repent. They would be making a big mistake to believe or think that insecurity would automatically disappear if they or their own political parties return to power
Did Boko Haram end after the All Progressives Congress (APC) took over from the PDP, despite the fact that some of its leading lights, then, saw the insurgency up North as their strongest campaign weapon.

GOV. UZODIMMA EXPRESSES OPTIMISM AMIDST TRYING TIMES IN THE STATE

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has assured Ndi Imo of his confidence that the trying times currently being experienced in Imo State would be a thing of the past soon.

Speaking at the Easter Sunday service held at St. Rose of Lima Parish, in his country home Ozuh Omuma, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, the Governor insisted that the current trying periods in Imo State which has been characterized by the killing of innocent citizens, burning of public and private property, burning of police stations and killing of policemen, among other unlawful acts are borne out of politics of bitterness.

In the Spirit of Easter, Governor Uzodimma enjoined all well meaning Imolites to pray to God for the change of heart of those perpetuating the violence.

He emphasized that the killings in Orlu zone are more political than the report of involvement of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), describing what is going on as rather "the activities of the wicked politicians who are unrepentant and have continued to sponsor the killings of their fellow brothers."

The Governor regretted that investigations have revealed that most people either killed or whose homes were burnt were mostly members of the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), noting that there was no record of any member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reported to have died or suffered loss of property as a result of the activities of the so-called bandits.

He told those aiming at removing him as the Governor of Imo State, using insecurity as a tool, to stop wasting their time because he is "ordained by God to be the Governor of Imo State." 

“They are challenging God. When you are after the creation of God, you are after God,” he said.

The Governor said the same people who looted Imo treasury are the same people sponsoring the killing of hapless and innocent persons as well as instigating unending violence in Imo State. 

“My government is not weak, my Government is only God fearing. The only thing is that we hate to let blood. But we cannot allow the killing of innocent citizens and the activities of non-state actors in the form of criminals and hoodlums to overtake the political space. One thing I must assure you is that I will live up to the oath of office I took," Governor Uzodimma assured.

SPORTS FESTIVAL: TEAM IMO BAGS 59 MEDALS

Team Imo on Friday in Abuja took the 6th position in the first edition of the National Para Games after hauling a total of 59 medals.

Team Imo of about 120 athletes won 16 gold, 25 silver and 18 bronze medals to end up at an overall 6th position in the Games held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium being the Maiden Para National Sports Festival Games 2022.


The just concluded Para National Sports Festival is the first of its kind and has over 3145 athletes and officials participating and 21 participating states across the federation, which Imo was part of and led by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Dan Ogu who expressed gratitude to the Governor of Imo State, Dist. Senator Hope Uzodimma for the unflinching support to Imo Contingents in the whole preparation and onward participation in the sports festival.

The competition was declared open by the Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare on Saturday, April 9 and ended on Friday, April 15, 2022.

The maiden edition of this Para-Sports Games is aimed at giving People Living With Disability (PLWD) in sports a sense of belonging and opportunity to exhibit all their potential which is in line with the present administration’s policy of inclusion in ensuring that Para-Sports are given the same opportunity as their able-bodied counterparts.

It is with a profound sense of joy and gratitude to Almighty God that I send my warm felicitations to all the good people of Imo State on this auspicious occasion of 2022 Easter celebration. Given the many challenges we passed through between last year's Easter and now, we should all be joyful and grateful to the Lord who has protected us and given us the opportunity to see this year’s Easter celebration. To the glory of God, we all weathered the storm and are here to join billions of Christians across the globe to joyfully shout "Hallelujah, Christ is risen”.

While we shout hallelujah and celebrate Easter, we must also reflect on the true meaning of Christ’s resurrection for Christians and for all of humanity. Often, we concentrate on the religiosity of the season without the necessary appreciation and deeper understanding of what Jesus Christ demonstrated by dying on the Cross. As we know, Jesus had the powers to refuse or reject death. Remember, Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead and healed many sick people. Therefore, He had the powers to say no to death. Instead, He chose to die for our salvation - Just to save us from our own sins. This is love beyond measure, and the Holy Bible records it as the greatest love of all time in John Chapter 3 vs. 16: ‘‘for God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son so that everyone one who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life "This is sacrifice beyond understanding.

The Easter, therefore, offers us the opportunity to rethink the essence of our humanity. As clearly defined by Jesus Christ, the essence of our humanity is to love God, to love one another and to be ready and willing to make sacrifices for the love of humanity. The Bible also reminds us that the best way to Love God is to love humanity. This is because if we do not love our brothers and sisters whom we see every day, we definitely cannot love God whom we do not see.

As we celebrate this year's Easter we should ask ourselves these pertinent questions as Christians who profess the love of God: Do we truly follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ? Do we love our fellow human beings as Christ loved us or are we part of those spreading hate and violence against humanity? How much love have we shown to our state, Imo and our country, Nigeria?

Can we give up our inordinate ambition for the sake of peace and stability of Imo State? Can we sacrifice our ego for the progress of Imo State and her people? Can we lay down our arms, not our lives, so that people can walk the streets freely in pursuit of their legitimate means of livelihood?

It is truly ironic and disheartening that over ninety percent of both the actors and sponsors of insecurity in Imo State, and indeed all over Igboland, claim to be Christians.. Are these Christians the true followers of Christ? Do they even remember the 5th commandment which says; “Thou shalt not kill”? The answer should be obvious,
Let us, therefore, use the occasion of this Easter celebration to purge ourselves of those acts that at best make us hypocrites and at worst enemies of Christ.

My brothers and sisters, having gone through the period of lent when we were expected to sanctify ourselves for Christ through fasting, prayers and alms giving, it behoves on us to soberly reflect on our contributions to the growth of Christian love which we profess and to the peace of our state. Are we part of the problem or part of the solution? Are we responsible for the raging insecurity claiming the lives of innocent people or are we assisting Government to halt the carnage? Are we in a position to help reduce the menace of insecurity in the state?

In several fora, I have literally gone on my knees to appeal to the sponsors and perpetrators of these senseless killings to sheath their swords and embrace peace and reconciliation irrespective of whatever grudges they may have. I have also asked for forgiveness from anyone who feels offended by any of the policies or actions of the Government of Imo State which I lead currently. In the spirit of the Easter season, I would like to repeat this appeal for forgiveness, peace and reconciliation in our state. Heaven will bear me witness that I have always placed the welfare of the people of Imo State above other considerations while taking decisions as Governor of Imo State. It is also on record that I have gone to very great lengths to provide succour to many citizens of the state who were aggrieved by some of the actions of my predecessors. As peace-loving people, I appeal to you to follow the proper channels to lay down any complaints you may have. As I have done before, I promise to look into these complaints and make all efforts to resolve them to the best of my ability. I am using the period of Easter which symbolises peace, brotherliness, forgiveness, reconciliation, love and sacrifice to appeal to everyone to embrace peace for the sake of our children and their unborn children. Violence is alien to our culture. Let us do away with it. How will our forebears – Chief K. O. Mbadiwe, Dee Sam Mbakwe, Chief Evan Enwerem, Chief Collins Obi, Chief R. B. K. Okafor and Chief H. S. K. Osuji be feeling in their graves ?. Will they be pleased to see that the state they handed over to us has become a killing field where the bloods of innocent women, children and men now flow freely like the blood of animals.


On behalf of my family and the Government and people of Imo State, I wish everyone a happy Easter celebration. Let us never relent in our prayers for peace in Imo State and Nigeria. I am confident that the peace we seek is within reach and with peace the sky will be our limit. May God almighty kindly grant our prayers for peace and prosperity in Imo State. Amen.

With pains and deep sense of loss, the State Executive Committee (SEC) of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), Imo chapter, under the able leadership of erudite, dynamic, hardworking and unassuming Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere PhD, KSJI, condemns in the strongest terms the recent unreasonable and unwarranted attack on the country home of the Imo State Attorney - General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief C.O.C. Akaolisa in Orsu Local Government Area, LGA.


Prior to the latest complete burning of the country, the same criminals and their shameless sponsors and accomplices within and outside the shores of the State, had completely burned the Orsu LGA Secretariat, the house of Honourable Commissioner, Imo State Ministry of Labour, Employment and Productivity, Chief Prince Ford Ozumba and country home of member representing Orsu State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ekene Nnodumele. These are apart from houses of other political leaders that have been razed in the same Orsu Local Government Area.

While we commiserate with our own Chief Akaolisa, who has served the State and our great party with zeal, we as a party equally want to assure him and other victims of the vicious attacks of our unflinching support during this trying moment and pray that Almighty God will grant them the fortitude to bear the losses.


Despite the fact that the criminals have not clearly stated their motives, one thing certain is that they are on a mission to make Imo State and particularly Orsu appear ungovernable but they have failed as the APC-led government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma will never allow an inch of Imo territory to be occupied and controlled by hardened criminals and social misfits.



We also seize this opportunity to assure Imo people that the government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has initiated tough measures to end the menace of these proven enemies of the masses that deceive some people with the false claim of being "freedom fighters."


The good people of Imo State are hereby encouraged to support the government in its efforts to rid Imo of all forms of criminality by providing useful information to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.


On the other hand, we condemn the silence of the opposition, which is worrisome as the APC expected them to at least demonstrate genuine humanity and responsibility as citizens by speaking out against the unwholesome acts of the criminals and so called, " freedom fighters," because violence and insecurity are not discriminatory. An injury to one is injury to all. Violence is an I'll wind that blows none any good.


We also note with concern that the destruction of state assets the police stations and council areas, and note that incapacitating the authorities is one way we expose ourselves to more risks. Let's remember that every of our action will return to us to account either now or hereafter


Without doubt, the task of securing Imo State is a collective effort hence every law-abiding Imo citizen must rise against these devilish criminals that are diligently bent on destroying Imo State as directed by their sponsors.

To those criminals, we say, you will never succeed and you will neither destroy the State nor the strong will of the masses.

Dialogue Not Violence remains the solution says Gov. Uzodimma

Gov. Hope Uzodimma: “At the risk of repeating oneself, dialogue and not violence is the only vehicle that will lead us to our desired destination. There is no evidence in history to show that any race can ever become great through violence or self destruction and when a man begins to urinate into a well which he drinks from, it only proves that he is on a suicide mission. I think that as a people who have suffered and endured a brutal past, we should be wiser than that”.

Imo State Governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma *has* once again reiterated his position that violence, criminality and destruction is not and can never be the way out or way to go in addressing the concerns of Ndi Igbo in Nigeria.

*The Governor made this assertion at the grand reception held in honour of Prof. George Obiozor, President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo at the Government House Banquet Hall on Saturday, April 9, 2022.*

“No one in Nigeria would deny the fact that Ndi Igbo are zealous, patriotic and committed to the oneness of Nigeria. All that the Igbos demand from Nigeria is a *level-playing* field for all of us to operate and compete. Simply put, Ndi Igbo want justice and equity for all Nigerians, no more, no less”, he stated.

While speaking, Gov. Uzodimma harped that it is already clear from all indications that the Igbo people had cried enough about marginalization and that it was time for the political class in Nigeria to wipe the tears of Ndi Igbo and that the political class who made sure that the people of the South West produced the President of the country in 1999 are still active and can do same for Ndi Igbo.

“Most of the patriots who engineered the plan that made the South West produce the Presidential candidates for the then two major political parties in 1999 are still alive and active in Nigerian politics today. That same underlying love for country that inspired them to do what they did for the people of the South West in 1999 should inspire them to do same for the South East in 2023”, Gov. Uzodimma said.

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma together with a host of Igbo leaders gathered in solidarity for the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, Professor George Obiozor whose country home was set ablaze.

Governor Uzodimma at the solidarity banquet held in honour of the President-General, condemned the destructive acts and killings by brothers against brothers, stressing that the destructive approach of sending a message is not Igbo.

The Governor maintained the Gospel of “dialogue and not violence” as the means to the desired destination of Ndi Igbo. He further stressed that self destruction and violence has never made any race great but can be likened to a man who urinates into a well he drinks from.

Governor Uzodimma called on all well meaning Igbo leaders and youths to “think together, plan together and pursue the cause of justice for Igbos in Nigeria. He also called on all the kingmakers and patriots of the country to help wipe the historical tears of the South East.

“Igbos are Pan Nigeria, the huge investments of Igbos in all the States in Nigeria even in the far North shows a people that have an unwavering faith in this Nation. All what Igbos seek is justice, equity and fairness” - Gov. Uzodimma stated.

IMO STATE GOVERNMENT REKINDLES HOPE FOR MISS BLESSING UMUNNAKWE AS SHE RECOVERS FROM THE STATE SPONSORED SURGERY

The family of Deacon Umunnakwe from Ihiagwa in Owerri West LGA of Imo State would forever be grateful to God for the successful surgery their Daughter, Miss Blessing Umunnakwe, underwent at Cairo in Egypt.

Young Miss Blessing who won the 2021 MEXT Postgraduate Scholarship organized by the Japanese Government, was hindered from resuming studies at the University of Tokyo in October 2021 due to an ailment that grew worse leading to the lost of the Scholarship.

After several failed efforts at treating the Young Lady and with a referral from the National Hospital Abuja for a surgery at Cairo in Egypt, the family sought for help from Office of the First Lady, Her Excellency Barr. (Mrs) Chioma Uzodimma, through her Non-Governmental organization, GoodHope Flourish Foundation.

Following her empathy on the young Lady, Her Excellency prayed on the State Government for succor and to her amazement, His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma approved the full sponsorship of the Medical Trip to Egypt.

Today, young Miss Blessing Umunnakwe is recovering from the surgery at a fast pace. As the family visited Her Excellency at the Government House yesterday, they expressed gratitude for the amazing love showered on them by the State Government while praying for God's blessings upon the first family.

GOV. UZODIMMA REINSTATES 15 TRADITIONAL RULERS SACKED BY THE PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION.

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has revived the hopes of 15 Communities as he reinstated their unduly sacked legitimate Ezes by the previous administration.

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma in his address said that no government has any right to sack any traditional ruler appointed or elected by his own people, stressed that “The duty of the Government is to approve traditional leaderships appointed by the people and has no power to disapprove or sack legitimate traditional rulers “.

The Governor who frowned at the injustice apologized to the Ezes and their unduly denied communities on behalf of the previous administration. He further disclosed that investigations were made and found no evidence of litigation or criminality against the Ezes as why any Government will sack a duly elected Traditional Ruler.

He also promised to payroll them stating that a worker deserves his pay and added that “we are not going to be party to anything that will stop you from been paid”.

IMO STATE WINS AT THE 2022 NATIONAL SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION EXPO

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma today inaugurated the Imo State Traditional Rulers Executive Council.

Governor Hope Uzodimma at the inauguration of the 31 member Traditional Executive Council, charged them to work as representatives of the Government to sustain peace and tranquillity within their respective communities.

The Imo State Government today met with the United States Ambassadorial team on a COVID-19 vaccination in the State.

Gov. Uzodimma in his address commended Kathleen Fitzgibbon, US Deputy Chief of Mission and her team for their support in the fight against the deadly pandemic.

The Governor called on all religious leaders, Traditional leaders and the people of Imo State to support and avail themselves for the mission to stay alive and protected from the virus.

The Governor further disclosed that the cause to stay alive against COVID-19 is an all expense paid cause by the United States Government and enjoined all to take advantage.

Speaking earlier, the head of US delegation commended the Governor for his political will in support to keep his people safe.

She further commended the media in the State that has made the essence of the COVID-19 vaccination Cristal clear to both the rural and urban communities in the State.

GOV. UZODIMMA INAUGURATES SUR-WASH STATE STEERING COMMITTEE

The Imo State Governor, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has inaugurated the SUR-WASH steering Committee to pilot the scheme of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply Scheme and Hygiene (SUR-WASH) in the State.

The Imo born socialite who was arrested last week regained his freedom few minutes ago after his bail conditions were met.

GOV. UZODIMMA WARNS AGAINST LAND GRABBING IN THE STATE; INSISTS ON DUE PROCESS

His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma during the Sunday Service at the Government House Chapel, Owerri, addressed the issue of illegal land grabbing in the State as he called for the use of Due Process in acquiring lands and properties.

Governor Uzodimma made it clear that the “Federal Government or any other Federal Agency cannot and will not allocate lands in the State.” He further stated that since his emergence as the Governor, he has not allocated any land to anyone including himself, warned against illegal acquisition of lands without clearing with the Ministry of Lands in the State.

The Governor further disclosed that even the communities have no power to allocate lands and properties to anyone especially those who claim to have MoU with the Communities.

Governor Uzodimma enjoined Imolites to follow due process in acquiring landed properties as Government will come calling for all State owned properties.
