Press Release

Anglican Primate commends Uzodimma on infrastructure development in Imo

Primate of all Nigeria Anglican Church, His Grace, The Most Rev. (Dr.)

Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba has commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for all his efforts in ensuring that his government leaves a legacy of durable infrastructure in Imo State.

The Archbishop bared his mind on Sunday in his sermon at the dedication of the newly built Cathedral Church of St. Peter Umuokanne, Ohaji in Ohaji/Egbema local government areas of Imo State.

The Primate who regretted that those in positions of authority are facing challenging times today due to insecurity and other forms of injustices was, however, full of praises for Governor Uzodimma over the latter's policies on strategic infrastructural renewal in Imo.

Ndukuba's words: "As I drove to Orlu yesterday (Saturday), Your Excellency, I saw the road you are doing from Owerri to Orlu. There are also others around the State. God will stand by you and help you do more. This is a very uncertain time and a very challenging time for every leader in the country. God will help you."

He said Governor Uzodimma's projects are people-oriented and that the Governor has continued to interface with stakeholders, pursuing peace vigorously and going about his leadership with the fear of the Lord. "God will grant you peace and God will grant us peace in Nigeria."

In the Primate's sermon which he tagged: Living stones and spiritual temple -  he admonished the congregation to see the Cathedral Church he came to dedicate, as indeed other places of worship in the country,  as the place to run to in times of challenges like we have in Nigeria and other places today.

Ndukuba said that there is no problem God cannot solve for the people if they prayerfully approach him with sincerity of heart, faithfully, obediently, commitedly and with a heart full of gratitude and love.

He not only chided those who have taken it upon themselves to be killing fellow human beings, destroying their homes and places of worship, but also the authorities that have failed to bring such persons to book in the spirit of fairness and justice.

The Primate warned that the wrath of God is near for those who take him and what he is capable of doing for granted.

To the youths of the country, he warned them not to submit themselves to be used for dirty political activities as 2023 approaches, pleading, however, for

everybody's understanding in this difficulty times.

In his remarks, Governor Uzodimma said he could not agree less with Archbishop Ndukuba that we need prayers in the country and that "God is the only solution to our problems."

The Governor reiterated that he has come to serve Imo people sincerely and with the fear of the Lord and urged them to be patient and supportive of his government, eschewing mayhem and violence.

"Under my leadership I will do my best to pursue and ensure that we have peace. All l beg of you is to stop all forms of bloodletting and the things that result to violence and join hands with us to develop our State. We have the resources, human and material and what it takes to do so is if only we can put forward our first eleven."

Governor Uzodimma thanked Imo people in general and Ohaji people in particular for the opportunity to be in their midst for the Cathedral Church dedication and used the event to remind them once more that he is one of them.

"Why I attended this dedication personally is to use the opportunity to explain to my brothers and sisters from Ohaji that I am one of them and to advice us to be peaceful and patient and to bear in mind that I will bring development into Ohaji even if it will be the only thing I will do as a governor. Only for you to persevere. We are almost there."

Governor Uzodimma reminded his audience that unemployment is getting to a criminal level and that his government requires a conducive atmosphere to bring development to the people.

He recalled the efforts his government made recently to revamp Adapalm as a going concern with multi-dimensional value chain, noting that if the people sheathe their sword and allow peace to reign in the community,  Adapalm in no time will take more than 35,000 youths off the Labour market.

Governor Uzodimma thanked the Church, particularly members of the Anglican Communion for their support and solicited continued partnership with government in the interest of the society.

Earlier, the Bishop of the Cathedral Church of St Peter Umuokanne Ohaji, Rt. Rev. Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku, thanked Governor Uzodimma for all he did, both in cash and in kind, to ensure that the Church had a memorable dedication.

The dedication attracted many Bishops, serving and retired, from different parts of the country,  top federal and state political office holders, business moguls and traditional rulers of note from Imo State, among others.

Peer review: AU Rates Nigeria high In Infrastructure, Agric Revolution

The African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) says Nigeria recorded tremendous successes in infrastructure development and agricultural revolution during the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM).

Princess Gloria Akobundu, Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD, said this at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.

Akobundu said that the country also recorded successes in humanitarian services and fight against corruption.

The APRM is governance arm that NEPAD established in 2003 by Heads of States and Government of African Union as a unique accountability method for African countries to review each other’s governance.

She said that the country was highly commended at the 31st APR forum on Feb.4.

“The review report was far-reaching and encompassed various segments of the socio-political economy and highlighted the developments recorded since the first peer review in 2008.

“The President has assured that the government will effectively implement the National Programme of Action (NPoA),’’ she said.

Sen. Abba Ali, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the APRM, said the process sought to entrench good governance practices in participating states.

Nnamani, represented by Sen. Adelere Oriolowo, said the National Assembly would give unequivocal support to AUDA-NEPAD in entrenching democracy and promoting good governance for sustainable development.

“The NASS will ensure the domestication of the NEPAD Act through the passage of its draft bill, increased funding and effective partnership in promoting regional integration,’’ he said.

Ali said that being peer reviewed for the second time was a great step toward the growth and development of the country.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa and AUDA-NEPAD, Sen. Chimaroke Nnamani, commended President Buhari for his support and commitment in reforming NEPAD to AUDA-NEPAD.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on AUDA-NEPAD, Mohammed Bago, said the NASS would also support the agency in the implementation of the National Programme of Action (NPoA).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the APRM is an innovative and bold attempt by Africa to improve governance and well-being of all citizens.

The objective of the APRM is to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that will lead to political stability, high economic growth, accelerated regional and continental economic integration.

The second peer review came 13 years after the first one which was conducted in 2008. (NAN)

No pensioners invited for verification- Imo Govt

Imo State Government has noted with deep concern the circulation of a fake announcement inviting pensioners to a verification exercise from February 8th to February 18th this year.

The fake announcement was purported to have been signed by me,the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy.

For the avoidance of doubt, Government at no time invited any set of pensioners for any kind of verification whatsoever.

Again at no time did I or any Government official author or authorised any announcement of such.

There is no doubt that this is another cheap blackmail by the opposition to cause confusion among our senior citizens to ultimately embarrass the state government.

If the announcement was genuine and emmanated from me,it would have been aired first by imo broadcasting corporation.

The public, especially the pensioners should disregard the fake announcement as there is no verification of pensioners in the dates indicated.

Government will always use credible media to educate and inform the citizens about its programmes and policies.

Please be guided accordingly.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma started by getting rid of corruption in the civil service, pension scheme, payroll system and every other sector of the State.

He also busted the State IGR scam, went into massive road constructions, beefing up the security apparatus of the State, upgraded facilities in the health sector and is currently standardizing the education system to make it more future oriented and relevant to the realities of the 21st century.

Governor Uzodimma has also began strategic efforts to industrialize Imo State. (TALK ABOUT THE AGRIC REVOLUTION). These efforts are geared toward empowering Imo’s youth as well as proving jobs and employment for all Imo people.

Most importantly, we are grateful to God almighty for giving us the person of Sen. The government of Imo State has approved the immediate release and disbursement of N1 billion for the rehabilitation of health centres in the 305 electoral wards across the state as part of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s agenda on primary health care.

Also approved is the proposal of the Governor to immediately construct 135 kilometers of rural roads or five kilometers in each of the 27 local government areas of Imo State before the return of the next rainy season.

Rising from the Imo State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 presided over by Governor Uzodimma, the government also hinted that construction work is going on simultaneously on 25 roads in the State.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba said: “In an effort to ensure that promises made by this administration are kept, the 3-R administration has simultaneously embarked on the reconstruction of these roads to assuage the worries of Imo people on the situation of road infrastructure.”

He noted that in addition to the roads, the Shared Prosperity Government has also commenced work on the second balloon- technology driven underground tunnel that would evacuate all flood water from World Bank, Amakohia, Akwakuma, etc axis and discharge them at the Nworie River.

Some of the roads crisscrossing the State that are currently getting attention, according to Emelumba include: Naze/Ihiagwa/Obinze road, Naze/Egbu road, Egbu/Toronto junction road, Warehouse/Emmanuel College/Orlu Junction road, Christiana Hospital Egbu Road, Stadium road Mgbidi, Aboh Mbaise-Itu Ezinihitte road, Ulakwo/Umuneke Ngor Okpala road to mention but a few.

The Commissioner also explained that work is progressing speedily on the two flag-ship dual carriage roads of the government - Owerri/Orlu and Owerri/Okigwe.

Flanked by the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Ginikanwa Nworgu, Commissioner for Works, Barr. Ralph Nwosu, Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Barr. Kezie Ogaziechi and the Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser to the Governor, Oguwike Nwachuku, Emelumba said Council emphasized that the construction of five kilometer roads in every Local Government of the State should be completed before the commencement of the rainy season.

On the approval, immediate release and disbursement of N1 billion for the renovation of primary health centres in the 305 INEC wards of the State, the Commissioner for Information said a Committee was set up to take up the responsibility, noting that, “this no doubt is not a small achievement.”

Emelumba also explained that Council commended Governor Uzodimma for emerging the Focal Person for the Special Agricultural Processing Zone (SAPZ) designed to trigger industrialization from the Agric sector by the Federal Government.

“That is why he travelled to Cote d’ Iviore recently, leading other Governors and stakeholders involved in the project, as Imo is one of the seven states for the pilot project that will be launched later this month in Abuja.”

Besides, he said Council also congratulated Governor Uzodimma on the conferment of the title of “Onye Ndu Ndigbo I,” an honour done him by His Imperial Majesty, the Enyi of Aba, Eze I. A. Ikonne, who recently celebrated his 93rd birthday in Aba, Abia State.

“This is in recognition of the efforts of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma towards creating a Pan-Nigeria outlook as the title is coming from no mean person than His Imperial Majesty, the Enyi of Aba, Eze I. A. Ikonne.”

"Some people get easily angry whenever they see me being insulted. I think that is childish. I'm a politician and it is my right to be insulted. It is my right to be called names, it is my right to get bad wishes from whoever I outrun in the polity. Politics, sometimes, is a bully game, don't get distracted, keep your eyes on the ball. It is a game of number but equally important, a game of common sense with sole aim of improving people's lives with right policies. Mohammed Ali was a great boxer, he punched you once, he ran away, he made you angry so much that you lose your focus and balance, then he would hit you hard..Those who must beat him must never be angry or lose focus while fighting, keep your strategy to yourself....win some, lose some, that's politics but you must strive to win all but you can never win all.....

"As for insults and abuse, I have received uncountable insults since I joined politics. You can see where I am today politically. I'm a product of insults, left right and centre, that's my food and medicine. I'm not complaining, keep it up...."

Politics / Dist Senator Rochas Okorocha, Representing Imo West Senatorial District, NASS by Comroguji(m): 10:53am On Jan 31, 2022
Dist Senator Rochas Okorocha, Representing Imo West Senatorial District, NASS Complex, Abuja.

Sir, OPEN LETTER TO YOU AS EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST IN CONTESTING FOR PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA.

We are appaled by your shamless poise to contest for the president of Nigeria after your abysmal reign as governor of imo state.

Your boldness amist your infamous tenure in Imo state was characterised by nepotism, looting of public funds, poor infrastructural development, fraudulent conversion of government and privately owned property, and general abuse of office to which you have been indicted by the report of 2 independent judicial panel of inquiries set up by the people you governed for 8 years.

You were caught on tape boasting in your native language that even the state government and your political enemies do not have the kind of money you have at your disposal.

We ask, sir, as a governor, your were not to engage in any profit venture while in office, how then did amass the kind of wealth you boast to have? ......

Here comes the answer...from looting of the resources and wealth of imo state government from 2011-2019 as follows,

1. Misappropriation of Erosion control fund for imo state, particularly for your kinsmen Urualla, in ideato North LGA of the state ravaged and separated from the world by huge Gully erosion totaling #4 billion naira.

2. Ecological fund for other erosion control programs in imo state of about #25 billion naira.

3. Imo state share of Paris club refund totaling #120 billion naira.

4. Imo state share of Excess crude account of about #100 billion naira.

5. Federal government bailout fund for payment of salaries and pension in imo state #100 billion

6. Revenue as oil producing state from 2011-2019 #360 billion

7. Local government fund from 2011-2019 totaling #233.3 billion naira.
And so much others which were not accounted for either in cash at the bank or feasible project on ground anywhere in imo state except your massive estate at a location called spilbat, Amakohia in Owerri, Imo State.

In your nepotistic tendencies, your failure to install your son in law as your successor saw the fulfilment of your promise to make imo state ungovernable by your conversion of the state security network , Imo security network (ISN) to Eastern Security Network (ESN) armed them with state sponsored pump action guns and unleashed unimaginable terror on your people, with record deaths, arson ,cannibalism and killing of traditional rulers who are opposed to your excesses. We hear and join in the call for your prosecution by anti corruption agencies to with EFCC and ICPC. With these allegations, we do not think you are worthy to bear the trust burden of Nigerians to be the president.

Your declaration to contest the presidential elections in Nigeria is a show of crass hypocrisy and mockery of democracy at the highest order. We humbly advise you to sheath this agenda and devoted time to purge your sins with the anti graft agencies and till then rest.

Yours truly, Ikedi ofoegbu.

*OPEN LETTER TO IGP ALKALI BABA OVER PLANNED OBSCENE PRESS CONFERENCE BY SENATOR ETHELBERT OKOROCHA*

Mr. IGP,

We write on behalf of 10year old Somtochukwu Ibeanusi, Laz Anyanwu, Ugonna Ozurigbo, Emeka Ihekwoaba and all others marthyred during the Ethelbert Okorocha regime to ask you to stop an obscenity scheduled to hold this morning at the International Conference Centre, Abuja at least for the sake of public decency if nothing else.

Mr. Okorocha is billled to address a World Press Conference by 10 o'clock today. As usual, Sir, he will put on a show. He will talk big, he will pretend to be pious, to be burderned by the state of the land. He will repeat all manner of platitudes and even invoke a new catchphrase, buzzword or mantra. But he is fake.

Asides being a fake man, he has weighty allegations on his neck that he has failed to discharge. As we write, his ill-acquired estates in Imo, having been so identified by a competent judicial panel of enquiry, are being seized one by one and restituted to their rightful owners. These ill-acquired estates include contiguous hectares of real estate in choice locations, universities, communual ancestral lands, public facilities, markets, luxury apartments, machinery, factory equipment and others too numerous to state here.

Sir, is it not a brutal irony that while Mr Okorocha has imported cronies to the ICC Abuja to cheer him on, a similar 'Imo International Conference Centre, IICC' which he built under his watch as governor collapsed into itself right before his very eyes? Most wretchedly, this is the state of nearly all public infrastructure built under the Okorocha regime. This is criminal breach of trust of the worst kind, Sir. Having run Imo ragged, he wants to do same to Nigeria? That's impossible.

Sir, it deserves repeating that Mr. Okorocha is a fake man. He knows full well that pigs will fly before he will ever become president of Nigeria. His real intention therefore is to join the presidential and negotiate his way out of prosecution. If this happens, posterity will never forgive us. The blood of all those martyred by his acts and ommissions will haunt us.

This is why we humbly request, dear IGP, that you disperse this provocative gathering as allowing it will mean that you have endorsed the most menacing affront on the sensibilities of Imo people, and Nigerians in general.

The only press conference Okorocha qualifies to give is one in which he is on his knees offering atonement for his innumerable iniquities against Ndi Imo.

May God help you, Sir.

Yours sincerely,

For: Global Association of Concerned Imo Youths (GACIY)
Collins Ughalaa KSC,

NOTICE TO NIGERIANS TO BE WEARY OF ROCHAS

We, DEMOCRACY ADVOCATES in Nigeria, particularly, the Imo State chapter, writes to inform you, fellow Nigerians of the true personality of the person of Rochas Okorocha as highly incompetent to be President of Federal Republic of Nigeria and use this medium to call on fellow country men, to ignore his call for support.

He is the biblical BARABBAS of our time. Let's add our voice to the call for his prosecution, for fraudulent misappropriation of public fund and abuse of office as governor Imo State.
Other grounds for this protest are;

A. To inform Nigerians that he looted Imo treasury as governor.

B. That he is using his position to insult and fight the current government in his state of Imo with the aim to distract the government from bringing Democratic dividends to imolites.

C. He is using the stolen wealth of Imo people to fight, kill imolites and cause violence and instability in the state.

D. He is not a statesman and lacks capacity to be president.

E. Fraudulent conversion of public property to private use.

F. Misappropriation of fund for erosion control by FG for his kinsmen at Urualla, ideato North, currently ravaged by Gully erosion.

G. Sponsorship of Terrorism and cannibalism in Imo state. Etc.

H. It is estimated that he misappropriated between #450 billion naira from Imo treasury which he is using to run campaign for his presidential ambition.

I. The leopard never changes its spots, he will run Nigeria the same way he ran imo state by acquisition of government properties and sharing same with his family and cronies.

J . For 8years as governor, Imo state, he did not account for payment for the share of oil allocation to Imo state and ecological fund of over 250 billion naira.

K. He looted the share of Imo state from the excess crude account, the Paris club refund for Imo state and bailout fund from federal government for payment of salaries and pension of over #150 billion naira, which remained unaccounted for till date.

L. If given the opportunity, he will introduce LOOTOCRACY of unimaginable scale in Nigeria .

We are using this medium to call on Nigerians to ignore his call for vote and join in the call for the inspector General of Police to parade and Prosecute those criminals and confessed sponsors of violence in imo state forthwith.

Let's also call on the anti corruption agencies to with;the Icpc and EFCC to Prosecute Rochas Okorocha for corruption, abuse of office and fraudulent misappropriation of collective heritage of Imo citizens.
Let charity begin at home.

COMRADE ERIC UWAKWE RESTORES PEACE IN IMO STATE UNIVERSITY ALLIANCES; REVERSED HIKED TRANSPORT FARE, REVEALS SENATOR HOPE UZODIMMA'S PLANS TO REHABILITATE THE ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE WITHIN THE ALLIANCES.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs, Comrade Eric Uwakwe, yesterday upon receiving the complain of the students of Imo State University through their alliance presidents regarding the 100% increase in transportation fare by bus operators, swung into action to ensure the matter does not escalate into riot and unrest as both parties were fuming with adamant anger.

Comrade Eric Uwakwe, accompanied by the Imo State Chairman of National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW Comrade Samuel Ude and the President of the various alliances held a critical meeting with the parties and had an on the spot assessment of the complain by visiting the routes plied by the bus drivers.

It was discovered that the distance covered by the bus drivers is so short that it does not deserve to be hiked from #50 to #100. They also discovered that there was no reasonable reason warranting the obnoxious hike in transport fare.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Affairs and the Imo State Chairman of NURTW therefore ordered that the fare should return to status quo ante with immediate effect.

The Special Adviser also used the opportunity to announce to the students community that the Executive Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma has concluded plans to install street lights along the streets of the various alliances so as to curb insecurity, crimes and criminality and also make the roads motorable.

The entire Student Community were highly exhilarated by the actions and words of Comrade Eric Uwakwe. They thanked most especially the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his love and concern for the plights of the students of IMSU and assured him that the entire alliances will stop at nothing to fully support the Government of Senator Hope Uzodimma.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH; GROUP WARNS ROCHAS OKOROCHA

Owelle stop sponsoring insecurity in Imo State just because your in-law is not the Governor. The continuous sponsorship of unrest against Imolites with their commonwealth stolen by you, is as callous as a demonic practice. No matter how hard you try, you cannot wriggle away from the complicity.

The over 3,600 pump action rifles and 235 Sienna can purchase to empower your security unit during your tenure in office as the Governor, remains unaccounted and these are the tools used by your demonic agents to unleash unrest on Imolites.

It's high time Imolites rise in their numbers, under one voice and condemn in totality, Owelle's sponsorship of insecurity in Imo. Ndi Imo must demand for the prosecution of Owelle, let him be held accountable for his involvement in the insecurity ravaging the State.

With numerous criminal camps discovered at various sites in Imo West, a Senatorial District represented by Owelle, the senator has not come up against it because he has a hand in It. During his days in office, Owelle Recruited Roderick Jordan for the training of his bandist at various camps located at Ihube in Okigwe, Ezinihite Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, Amuzi Obowo and Arondi Izuogu forests.

We are therefor, calling on various security agencies to interrogate and prosecute Owelle and his cohorts with respect to his involvement in the insecurity in Imo State.

Ndi Imo, rise now.
