Tuesday, 20 December 2016 New version of Boko Haram aka Fulani herdsmen is killing Southern Kaduna Christians - Catholic Church
Press release by the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, Kaduna State dated Tuesday 20 December 2016: ENOUGH OF THE BLOODSHED: PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF KAFANCHAN, KADUNA STATE, NORTH WEST, NIGERIA
PREAMBLE
We, the Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan, welcome you to the Cathedral of St Peter Clavers. We are here to present to the world, the pains, agony and sorrows that have befallen us in this part of the State, the Southern Senatorial Zone of Kaduna State. Unfortunately, this crisis of tremendous proportion is happening at the time when, our Chief Shepherd, Most Rev Joseph Bagobiri is far away, outside the shores of this country attending to his health. This is the time when Southern Kaduna looks up to him for leadership. But he is not here. God knows why. The entire Presbyterium, Religious, the Laity and indeed the entire Southern Kaduna indigenes are united in prayers for him. May God heal him speedily and bring him back to the Diocese soonest.
In the last weeks and months, we have become victims of systematic attacks orchestrated by another version of Boko Haram, who also go by the name ‘Fulani Herdsmen’. This Militia, of the Fulani extraction is bent on pursuing an agenda that is aimed at subjugating the Southern Kaduna People, disintegrating the country, weakening the Gospel and grounding completely the social and economic life of our people. Suffice to State ab initio, that Southern Kaduna is no stranger to violence, perpetrated against it by Jihadists. The first known recorded violence of a large scale dates as far back as 1987 when a group of Muslim youth unleashed violence on Christians during a Revival organized by the Christian students of the College of Education, Kafanchan. The charge was that a certain Pastor was quoting from the Bible and the Quran to press home his point. This infuriated the Muslim students who interpreted this as blasphemy and consequently unleashed terror on the Christian students. This attack, naturally spiraled and there was a backlash as reprisal attacks were carried out across the length and breadth of the state. In between the 1987 crisis and now, we have had some other attacks that were masterminded by our Muslim neighbors who have developed a penchant for war and hatred for peace. Suffice to mention in passing the Zangon Kataf crisis in 1992 and the 2011 post election crisis that claimed the lives of many people in Southern Kaduna. The events of the past weeks and months are unfortunate and further confirm that there is a hidden agenda targeted at the Christian Majority of Southern Kaduna. This Jihad is well funded, well planned and executed by agents of destabilization. Thus, our voice is like that of the one at Ramah that refused to be consoled (Jeremiah 31:15). We are however assured by the words of Christ that not a hair of our head will be lost (Luke 21:18). For the records, Southern Kaduna Senatorial District is made up of Eight ( Local Government areas: Sanga, Jema’a, Kaura, Jaba, Zangon Kataf, Kagarko, Kachia, and Kauru. These Local governments are densely populated by Christians. This land, fertile and agrarian, is blessed with adequate rainfall enough to make our crops yield bounteously. The beautiful hills and valleys are a sight to behold. It is this beautiful gift of God to the people of Southern Kaduna that our adversaries seek to covet by employing terrorism in order to occupy. Our Land and Faith have become the envy of our traducers and persecutors. The gift of the Christian faith found a place in the hearts of our forefathers hundreds of years ago and today we can boast of a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ represented by the many denominations in Southern Kaduna and an army of Ministers of the Gospel who today have been elevated by God to various offices. It is a fact, that Southern Kaduna today is the oasis of vocations as 70% of the ministers of the Gospel from Kaduna state are of Southern extraction. This Faith and Gift, we are prepared to defend and guard even if it means dying for it. For who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Is it trials? Or persecution? Or the sword? Yet in all these, we are conquerors (Romans 8:35).
There is no better time than now to present this press release. We have had different groups in Southern Kaduna draw the attention of the world and government at different times by way of press releases since the eruption of the crisis. Most of it came at the peak of the attacks. Ours providentially is coming now, and regrettably still, the attacks have not abated. As we speak, villages and communities are being attacked daily by this militia. The worst hit Local Governments are Jema’a, Sanga, Kaura, and Kauru.
THE ISSUES What started like a minor misunderstanding between Fulani herdsmen and indigenous farmers was badly handled and it soon took a different turn for the worse. Our people are largely farmers. They depend on their farms for sustenance. Our Farmers will labor all year round to cultivate their farms. The Fulani herdsmen will deliberately walk their cows into their farmlands. The cows will naturally eat up the crops and destroy the farmlands. For families that depend on this, one can better imagine the negative impact. So when this happens, the farmer confronts the Fulani herdsmen to seek a peaceful resolution. Most times, this gesture is met with stiff resistance as the herdsmen would threaten the farmer or begins a violent fight. In most occasions, because the herdsmen are armed to the teeth, they deal a heavy blow to the local farmer that result in death. Tension mounts and the indigenes would want to avenge the death of their loved one. This is the story all around and 99% of the intractable conflict between farmers and herdsmen are traceable to this.
It is therefore worrisome to us when a faceless group known as Concerned Southern Kaduna Muslims seek to distort the facts by way of twisting and misrepresenting the account to put the minority Muslims of Southern Kaduna as the victims while the Christian majority are the aggressors. This is far from the truth! All the violence that took place in Southern Kaduna, hardly was any masterminded by the indigenes. Or how could you explain the importation of heavily armed militia to prosecute the war on behalf of the Fulani? The mere presence of this killer squad is enough evidence and indictment of the Fulani as the masterminds of these crises.
Tuesday, 20 December 2016 EU parliament seeks EU intervention in Nnamdi Kanu-Biafra vs Nigeria FG case
Not less than fifteen (15) European Union parliamentarians have signed a letter addressed to Federica Mogherini, Vice-President of the European Union Commission and its current High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy over the Nnamdi Kanu vs Nigerian Government series of court trials.
The letter dated 19 December 2016 urges the European Union to wade into the detention and trial of secessionist group, Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu and the killing of "at least 150 Biafrans...by Nigerian security forces."
A FULL VERSION OF THE LETTER READS BELOW:
JOINT LETTER FROM MEPS TO HR/VP MOGHERINI
Ms Federica Mogherini
High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy
European External Action Service
1046 Brussels
Belgium
19th December 2016
Dear Ms Mogherini,
We write in regards to the unlawful detention of Nwannekaenyi “Nnamdi” Kenny Okwu Kanu, a dual British-Nigerian citizen and Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the continued violence towards IPOB supporters as perpetrated by the Nigerian Government.
Since 14th October 2015, Kanu has been illegally imprisoned by the Federal Republic of Nigeria, despite being acquitted of all charges brought against him.
The authorities accused Kanu and his two co-defendants, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi, of trying to overthrow the Nigerian head of state by broadcasting secessionist propaganda on the underground media outlet Radio Biafra, which campaigns for the independence of Biafra from Nigeria. Kanu, Madubugwu and Nwawuisi deny all charges brought against them.
On 19th October in Abuja, the Chief Magistrate, Honourable Shuaibu, discharged Kanu of all criminal charges including the allegation of managing and belonging to an unlawful society, criminal intimidation and of criminal conspiracy. Shuaibu granted Kanu bail, of which all the conditions were met, but the Department of State Services refused to release him.
The charges of criminal conspiracy, engaging in unlawful society and criminal intimidation were then withdrawn on 16th December 2015, but still Kanu, Madubugwu and Nwawuisi have not been released.
On 17th December 2015, Justice Adeniyi Ademola ordered the unconditional release of Kanu from the custody of the Department of State Security Services, but this was not enacted.
Kanu’s counsel have since appealed to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to help ensure his safe release, but to no avail. A court case on 5th October 2016 was later adjourned to 8th November, which has now been amended to 9th February 2017, due to the Nigeria Department of State Services failure to bring Kanu to court. The Federal Government of Nigeria had previously warned the ECOWAS community court sitting in Abuja not to intervene in Kanu’s continued detention and trial.
It is clear that the fundamental human rights of Kanu, Madubugwu and Nwawuisi are being grossly violated. Human Rights Watch have reported of the violation of the defendants’ rights, including their right to a fair trial[1].
What is more, the Nigerian Government is also reportedly violating the human rights of Biafran activists. Scores of Biafrans are in detention for attempting to hold or participate in peaceful assemblies. On several occasions, security forces have used excessive force against pro-Biafran activists who have planned or attended peaceful protest marches[2]. Amnesty International has documented cases of arrest, enforced disappearance, torture and often killing of supporters and members of various pro-Biafran groups in the region[3]. Since August 2015, they estimate at least 150 Biafrans have been killed by Nigerian security forces. However, as no official investigations have been carried out, this figure is believed to be much higher[4].
The right to peaceful assembly and association, as well as the right of freedom of expression, is protected by the Nigerian constitution. International human rights standards also require that law enforcement officials must, as far as possible, apply nonviolent means. It is clear that the Nigerian authorities are not operating with respect to the Nigerian constitution or the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
On behalf of the European Union, especially in respect to the EU-Nigeria partnership, the Nigeria EU Joint Way Forward, the developments of the 6th Nigeria-EU ministerial dialogue and the fact that Nigeria is a recipient of EU aid, we call upon you to:
Advocate for the immediate and safe release of Nnamdi Kanu and co-defendants Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
Challenge the actions of the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Nigerian Department of State Services in regards to the detention of Kanu, Madubugwu and Nwawuisi. Call for an impartial investigation into the arrest, enforced disappearance, torture and killing of supporters and members of various pro-Biafran groups.
Denounce the unacceptable violence against Biafran supporters by Nigerian security forces. Do more to push the Nigerian government to safeguard human rights in Nigeria by calling for guarantees on the freedom of expression of all Nigerian citizens, including their right to protest without harm, and the termination of violence towards Biafrans.
We look forward to your positive response.
Yours sincerely,

A Muslim girl refused to shake German president Joachim Gauck. Gauck was at her school on Monday to praise the institution for accepting immigrants such as the girl.
However, when he arrived and was shaking hands with student delegates that came to welcome him, President Gauck was snubbed by the teenage Muslim girl. The incident was immediately laughed off by the snubber and the snubbed as well as other students who found it hilarious.
It is unacceptable in Islam doctrines for a man to shake a woman or vice versa.

A message from the admin of pyramid scheme MMM seemed to take digs at Nigerian bloggers. The message appeared on the MMM website today.
Since the announcement of the pausing of the system, MMM has become a hot-debated topic on social media but now, its founder Sergey Mavrodi has warned journalists, analysts and experts to keep off from the system. Mavrodi also claims that the system has not crashed despite the inability of participants to collect their invested funds.
The message read: Appeal to Journalists from Sergey Mavrodi
Dear journalists, “analysts” and all kinds of “experts”!
Please stop using MMM to gain cheap popularity. Leave us alone and let us work without interference. I’m just astonished by your irresponsibility and cynical attitude. Interests of millions of people, your fellow citizens are at stake. Don’t you have any sympathy for them? Why are you fueling hysteria around MMM and provoking a panic? Why are you doing this so diligently and persistently, what is your purpose?
In fact, absolutely all your provocative and worthless articles and “analyses” (I said “worthless” because you do not have any real information about what happens in the System, and might have never had; you simply invent everything, fabricate it) are merely negative: “MMM has collapsed!!!.. MMM will not be working in January!!!..” etc. Are you intentionally presenting all of it in such a manner and whipping up tension by any means possible in order to increase the ratings of your publications and attract attention to them? Don’t you care about people at all?
So, nothing has collapsed, and MMM will safely resume its work in January, as announced. Suspension of work for holidays is a usual thing, merely working moment, no more than that. It would have remained a normal, just a part of the usual routine, and might have gone almost unnoticed if it were not for your totally cynical and irresponsible attempts to advertise yourself, create a scandal out of nowhere, and make the most of this news topic in any possible way.
Again, leave MMM alone and let us work. Nothing has collapsed, and MMM will perfectly resume its work in January. We Can Change the World!
Saturday, 17 December 2016 Photos: Abuja residents stranded for 1 hour because of Buhari's convoy - Driver
Facebook user Adebayo T. Hassan-Justice has blasted President Muhammadu Buhari after he experienced a one-hour a traffic lockdown on Friday evening following the Nigerian leader's passage.
Adebayo also claims that Buhari had at least 30 vehicles in his convoy.
He wrote: For about an hour this evening, Bolingo Junction (pictured) and other roads that link the Abuja airport were blocked because President Muhammadu Buhari was to use the roads on his way back to Aso Rock. And when the President was passing, there were at least 30 cars in his convoy. That's the President that promised end to wastes as well as insanity that characterizes utilization of power in our country, and that leadership would be about people. If not madness, how could you block roads for barely an hour. You disregarded people's rights. You don't care if somebody was in one of the delayed vehicles seeking medical attention as matter of emergency. Adebayo T. Hassan-Justice reporting, This is change.
Friday, 16 December 2016 It's been 3 years since my sister Chimma Okoye left in peace
The pains of 15th December 2013 has lived among us and has refused to go away with time.
Growing up as a timid, introverted, last child of a family of 6, my bestfriend and bodyguard was my sister, Mma. She took me to any place she went: errands, church, catechism, name it - she even took me to my mission school every morning before heading to the public school where she attended. I vividly remember her telling me to reserve "small" okpa for her. Lol. You see, I was the last child so I enjoyed the privilege of attending nursery and early primary school with snacks my mother would put in my tiny food flask which turns out to be okpa in most cases. My sister used to get all these privileges before I was born and she was no longer the last child. Lol.
My sister kept me away from danger. There were assorted instances where she literally took pains for me. Enraged by the way she stood against having me punished, someone stabbed Chimma in her tender teenage palm. The year was 06, there was blood and I know it wasn't so deep but I never got to say thank you, Mma m.
Chimma died of cancer in December 2013. She was 27 and was about landing her Law degree. Let's not get into details, I would just say she went through a lot of pain. Months before her departure, the pains were so much that I asked the Almighty to place me on that sick bed and let her walk home.
I can recall that August 2013 morning I told her I was leaving her bedside for an errand. "Sommy, I want to follow you" was what she told me. I never replied. Instead I left immediately, found a lonely corner in the hospital and cried my heart out for an hour or so.
Here was my sister who wouldn't go anywhere without me in my tender, naive years, begging to tag along with me just for an hour and I couldn't grant her request. By now, she lost motion in her limbs to sickness and could barely move her hands let alone walk. I shrugged, picked myself up after weeping and left for my destination.
14th December 2013, she told me pains were too much. Her voice was shaking and I could barely hear her. This time, we talked on phone because I returned to school and my brother Chibu and mum were now looking after her in hospital..
On 15th December 2013, I received a call from dad. He told me that Chimma Okoye has slept in peace.
I couldn't mutter a response, couldn't cry or talk to anyone. I was not shaken. I've seen worse and had been more heartbroken when she was suffering.
I was only angry. I got angry to everything and everyone including myself: How could she stay to take all this pain and still leave us? And to God I asked, "how could you take her when I asked you to take me?"
Continue resting in peace Mma.

Tuesday, 13 December 2016 How MMM founder Sergey Mavrodi was jailed after 1st-generation MMM participants lost N2billion
Sergey Panteleevich Mavrodi (born August 11, 1955) is a convicted Russian criminal and a former deputy of the State Duma. He is the founder of the МММ series of pyramid schemes. In 2007 Sergei Mavrodi was found guilty in a Russian court of defrauding 10,000 investors out of 110 million rubles ($4.3 million or N2.085 billion naira).
In 1989 Sergey founded MMM.
He was then elected to the State Duma, thereby obtaining parliamentary immunity. Mavrodi declared MMM bankrupt on December 22, 1997, then disappeared, and was on the run until his arrest in 2003.
In 1998 Mavrodi created Stock Generation, allegedly a classic pyramid scheme presented as a "virtual stock market game".
The website ran from 1998 to early 2000. The Massachusetts district court initially found that U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was unable to cite Stock Generation's founders and owners for securities violations. However, the United States Court of Appeals reversed this decision in 2001, concluding that the SEC alleged sufficient facts to state a triable claim. In 2003 the SEC obtained permanent injunctions against SG Ltd. and relief defendants SG Perfect and SG Trading, which profited from the disbursement of funds fraudulently gained by SG Ltd.
On April 28, 2007, a Moscow court sentenced him to four and a half years in a penal colony. The court also fined him 10,000 rubles ($390).
In January 2011, Mavrodi launched another pyramid scheme called MMM-2011, asking investors to buy so-called Mavro currency units. He frankly described it as a pyramid, adding "It is a naked scheme, nothing more ... People interact with each other and give each other money. For no reason!"
Mavrodi said that his goal with MMM-2011 is to destroy the current financial system, which he considers unfair, which would allow something new to take its place. MMM-2011 was able to function openly as Ponzi schemes and financial pyramids are not illegal under Russian law.[14] In May 2012 he froze the operation and announced that there would be no more payouts.
In 2011 he launched a similar scheme in India, called MMM India, again stating clearly that the vehicle is a pyramid. He has also launched MMM in China. He was reported to be trying to expand his operations into Western Europe, Canada, and Latin America.
As of September 2015 it had spread rapidly in South Africa with a claimed 1% per day or 30% per month interest rate scheme[18] and warnings from both the South African and Russian Communist Parties for people not to participate in it.
In early 2016, he continued the same model in Zimbabwe (the accounts were frozen in September 2016), and later, in Nigeria.[20] Accounts of Nigerian participants later got to be frozen on December 13, 2016.

Sunday, 11 December 2016 MMM founder Sergey Mavrodi writes Buhari, says MMM is not scam
Founder of Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, popularly known as MMM, Sergey Mavrodi, has written a letter to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Nigerian Federal Government, stating that the pyramid scheme "is not scam" but a "means of livelihood" to millions of Nigerians.
The letter, dated 11 December 2016, goes thus: Honorable authorities,
So far MMM has come under a constant attack from you. In this regard, I would like to ask you a few simple questions. Since you are concerned with the interests of millions of your fellow citizens, I hope that you would be so kind to answer them.
1. What are you trying to get? Do you want the MMM System to collapse and millions of people to suffer? Who will support them then if now MMM is their only means of livelihood? Will you? You even don’t pay wages to people? Or might you not care about them? Might you be using a trendy topic to make a good name for yourselves? What will you say to a mother who will have no money to buy food for her child? Will you let her child die for the sake of the higher interests of the economy?
2. You say that MMM is a scam. What is the scam here, if all members are warned in advance about all the risks, the possible and impossible ones? They know there are no investments at all. The warning is a red text on a yellow background placed on most prominent place of the website.
3. You say that MMM is bad. Why? Yes, it produces nothing, but nothing gets out of the country either. The money is just redistributed among the citizens of Nigeria. It gets from those who are richer to poorer ones, in this way restoring social justice. What''s wrong with that?
4. You have repeatedly stated that "it should be investigated!.. researched!.." It means you know nothing about this System yet; you even haven’t understood how it works. Isn’t it completely irresponsible of you to make all these allegations and play with the lives of millions of ordinary people?
5. And finally. If you know what is right for people, why is the life so bad in the country?
Sincerely yours,
Sergey Mavrodi
P.S. As for your statement that "everything will collapse soon". The system has been working in Nigeria for a year, and according to your estimates, the total number of members now is about 3 million people. In Nigeria the population is approximately 195 million. Can you calculate? Will it be “soon"?

Monday, 12 December 2016 3 die in stampede during TB Joshua healing, SCOAN denies incident
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that at least 3 people lost their lives during a stampede that occurred during a church program at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) headquarters at 1 Segun Irefin Street, Ikotun - Egbe Road, Lagos on Saturday 10 December 2016.
According to eyewitness, the deceased victims of the mishap were identified as Emeka Okonkwo and Emmanuel Oherin while the third person's name hasn't been documented. The stampede was said to have occurred during a healing service by SCOAN founder Pastor Temitope Joshua.
The eyewitness continued that, "It was the church’s annual deliverance and healing programme. Usually at this time, the church becomes a beehive of activities as people come in their thousands to see the prophet for miracles.
"People lodge in different hotels surrounding the church. And they all arrive at the church very early.
"There is a canopy on the premises where worshippers are screened before they see the man of God.
"However, on Saturday, after being screened, the crowd was much and they started struggling through the doorway to see the prophet.
"In the process, three people collapsed. They were rushed to the Isolo General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead." In a statement by SP Dolapo Badmos, the Lagos Police PRO confirmed the incident saying: "The story is true. Investigation is ongoing as we await the result of the autopsy. For now, we are treating the case as sudden and unnatural deaths." However, when contacted by journalist Samson Folarin who works with Punch Newspapers, the official phone number of the church denied the incident saying, "Nothing happened on the church premises yesterday. Nobody died. Nobody. Thank you."
