Operatives threaten to shoot Wike as gov blocks DSS from "abducting" a judge by 1AM


Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has blocked an attempt by Federal Government's secret police, Department of Security Services (DSS), to, according to him, kidnap a judge in Port Harcourt in the wee hours of today.

The governor stepped out with policemen and other security agents at the judge's 35/84 B residence in Forces Avenue, Port Harcourt, Rivers State around 1AM on Saturday 8th September to stop the arrest.


Commenting at the scene, the former minister of Education narrated:
"Not under my watch wiĺl I allow this kind of impunity to take place. That is why we are here. I don’t know which judge they were detailed to abduct. I didn’t bother myself to know which judge. All I am interested in is that, at this level, it is not allowed.

"He is not a criminal and he is not an armed robber. If the person has committed an offence, invite him. It is only when he refuses to honour the invitation that you can adopt this commando style.


"The Commissioner of Police is here, the Director of DSS is here. Their operatives cocked their guns and threatened to shoot me. I have never seen that before. Again , this is to tell you what we are facing . We know that more will come. For us in this state, we shall continue to resist it.

"It doesn’t matter what it will cost. When you talk about liberty, sacrifices must be made. We are not trying to stop an arrest. All we are saying is that things must be done decently and in line with the rule of law.

"Rivers State is under siege. For you to see a governor out at this time of the day, something is wrong. A siege is an understatement. If this type of thing happens next time, the people wiĺl resist it to the last.

"They are trying to do something funny in this state, probably to declare a state of emergency."

Boy who advised guys to rape "hard to get" girls claims his account was hacked


Few hours after teaching guys females-raping methods on Facebook, Tobi Medal, the FUTA student who trended on social media on Wednesday afternoon has backtracked, alleging that his account was hacked.

Recall that after his post went viral, Tobi deactivated his Facebook account and now he's back, claiming the account was compromised by hackers.

See what he wrote:

I was just in school today going on with my normal life, I was at the school hostel (Akindeko) to charge my phone and take my drugs (the once I was given earlier at the health centre after going to complain about my medical condition) until i got a call from my sister via mom's phone. First she asked me what's wrong with me, I didn't understand, again she asked why would I deliberately get myself in trouble by writing rubbish on facebook, I still didn't understand, then she said I should check my facebook account.
I immediately rushed to my phone and logged in via free facebook for airtel, and I saw all the whole trending news about a post made with my facebook on a closed group about "rape". I'm urging everyone to debunk such news as I never made such, my account was hacked into. The last time I logged in was yesterday evening after running out of data. The perpetrators even chat with some of my friends.
I'm a totally gentle and God fearing young man, I'm 20 and i can tell the whole world I've never been involved in any sexual assault with any lady, even in school no girl have ever even come into my room since 100level and with full confidence I'll say any lady in this world and beyond should come out and tell everyone with evidence. I've taken proper steps by reporting immediately to the student affairs and I've been told to bring a letter of complaints tomorrow. So i urge all my friends and family to relax, it's all under control. Please no one should call me to ask anything. This is the whole story.

Anambra speaker Rita Maduagwu plays football as House of Assembly defeats NUJ


Rita Maduagwu is the honorable speaker of 6th Anambra State House of Assembly. She and her colleagues played a match against the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Awka chapter, on Wednesday 5 October 2016. The game ended 1 - 0 in favour of Anambra State House of Assembly members.

Speaking after the match, chief whip of the Anambra House of Assembly who played in a midfield position, Hon Lawrence Ezeudu, said:
"My brothers, I and my team members are happy, we are not happy just because we won, no!

"We are happy because we came to your house with only one aim and, that’s focus and determination to win and carry the day. I’m glad we won! I must also appreciate the spirited effort been put to sustain me and my team if not, we should have score more goals.
"Today has shown that we are in great relationship and this football match which has just ended will help strengthen the cordial relationship that exist between Anambra State House of Assembly and Nigeria Union of Journalists.

"It will also serve as a prove that in Anambra, there’s a good working relationship between all sectors but, finally, I’m glad we won today in your home where you train day and night."
The match was organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists in celebration of the Organization’s Media Game Week. It was played at a pitch in Anambra Broadcasting Service's Stadium of Light in Anambra State capital, Awka.

House of Reps throws out fresh bill seeking for Biafra referendum


The Federal House of Representatives has rejected a bill seeking for the conducting of a referendum over the creation of a separate Biafran state from the current geography of Nigeria on Wednesday 5th October 2016.

According to the official House report,
Following the agitation for restructuring of the country and outright secession by Biafra, the House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected a fresh bid for the convocation of a national conference and a referendum where a new constitution for the country would be approved by Nigerians.

The Senate and the House are currently in the process of further amending the 1999 Constitution.

However, a member from Rivers State, Mr. Kingsley Chinda, and another lawmaker from Edo State, Mr. Peter Akpatason, introduced a bill on Wednesday seeking to provide for the convocation of a national conference.

Chinda is a Peoples Democratic Party’s legislator, while Akpatason is a member of the All Progressives Congress.

The long title of the bill read, “A Bill for an Act to Provide for the Convocation of National Conference for the People of Nigeria for the Purpose of Discussing and Adopting a New Constitution to be submitted for Consideration and Approval at a Referendum and for other Purposes Connected therewith.”

But, the House, which was presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, did not allow the bill go far before it was rejected.

It said any procedure for amending the constitution that was either in conflict with the constitution or did not comply with the extant provisions for the amendment of the constitution was “illegal.”

The House position was highlighted by the Chairman, Committee on Rules/Business, Mr. Orker Jev. He raised a point of order to oppose the bill.

Jev said Section 1 of the constitution held the constitution to be the “supreme” law of the land, which was also binding on all Nigerians.

“Any law that is inconsistent with the provisions of this constitution automatically becomes null and void,” he stated.

Jev also argued that Section 9 of the constitution made clear provisions on how to amend it.

He added that the constitution did not include a referendum for the purpose of amending it.

“Any other thing other procedure is illegal.

“You cannot bring a bill here to amend the constitution,” Jev told the House.

Dogara quickly concurred with Jev before he rammed his gavel to rule out the bill.

Meanwhile, the House called for improved welfare for teachers in the country on Wednesday as they marked the 2016 World Teachers’ Day.

Many lawmakers suggested a separate salary structure for teachers and the provision of training facilities in schools

Police arrest man who bragged on Facebook about defiling minor

Police in Sotik, Bomet County, have arrested a man who bragged on Facebook that he had defiled a minor.

OCPD Jonathan Ngala said Mohammed Alfayo was in police custody and was helping them with investigations.

He, however, said police were still looking for the girl “to establish whether the act was truly committed.”

“We have already commenced investigations. We will notify the public once we get to the bottom of the matter,” he went on.

On Monday, Alfayo bragged on his Facebook page about having sex with a minor.

He posted a picture of himself with the underage girl in a bush.

Kingsley Isuemenyi was struck with polio at a young age. He had no body to turn to when the house he was occupying was pulled by a heavy rainfall recently.

While his social media friends were setting up a committee to raise funds for him, word got to Ugonna Ozuruigbo, the deputy speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly who intervened in the matter immediately, erecting a brand new bungalow for Kingsley in the compound where the old house used to stand.

Thanking his helper, Kingsley noted on Octoberr 1 2016:

Breaking: Naira crashes to 493 naira per dollar


As trading resumed at the parallel market on Friday 30 September 2016 morning, the naira exchanged at a demoralizing 493 naira per dollar at the parallel market - against the 420 naira per dollar it traded Friday last week.

Although the official exchange rate remains relatively unchanged at 305 naira per dollar, businesses have complained over the difficulties involved at sourcing for forex at banks and licensed BDCs at the CBN price.

Speaking to Somtoo Okoye blog, a businessman at Iweka Electronics Market in Onitsha who gave his name as Ubaka said on Thursday:
"Forget the official rate thing. We've not being able to source forex at that amount (CBN rates).

"The banks always tell you there's no forex for withdrawal let alone for selling at official rates but you see them selling to aboki BDC operators who still go and sell to us using the black market price."

Finance minster Kemi Adeosun: I don't know when recession will end


Nigeria's minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun says she isn't quite sure when the economic recession and accompanying hardship which is currently battering citizens of the country will come to an end.

Speaking in Abuja on Sunday, the former Ogun State commissioner for Finance told newsmen:
"I don’t want to predict when we will get out of recession.

"Let me tell you that we will get into growth and that’s how you get out of recession, because of the stimulus that we are providing. And it may take longer than we would like, but we will definitely get out of it.

"We are already seeing some positive signs in agriculture and solid minerals; and with what we are trying to do with other sectors, I am very sure we will get out of it soon."
