PoliticsIgbo Presidency : S’east Govs, Ohanaeze, Church Leaders Unite by contigiency(op): 8:21am On Oct 31, 2020
The Southeast governors, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization -Ohanaeze Ndigbo- and other stakeholders from the zone have launched a new initiative to press for an Igbo president in 2023. The initiative includes a solidarity march on December 27, 2020.

The stakeholders also plan to write letters to President Muhammadu Buhari, and the leaderships of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support the South East in the quest for the presidency.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Chairman in diaspora, Chief, Dr Nwachukwu Anakwenze, told reporters yesterday in Awka, that Christian clerics from the orthodox and Pentecostal churches would be involved in the march. It will take place simultaneously in the five South East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

Anakwenze, who is also, Chairman, Igbo World Assembly (IWA) and leader of ASA -USA,said the geo-political zone has credible and educated persons to lead Nigeria in 2023. He said those to be considered to join the race include present and past governors and federal legislators. He said all the South East wants are “democracy and freedom”.

“Our history in Nigeria clearly shows that Ndigbo have always stood for democracy and fair play for all. “We do not believe or promote religious based politics and ideology. We want a Nigeria where the majority’s right is balanced with the minority’s right. “We want Nigeria where the various ethnic groups feel that they have a stake in the future of the country.

“We envision a Nigeria where leadership is based on the ability to work hard, where fairness reigns with a sense of direction and accountability to the various groups and for the common good of the country.” He said it was only fair for the rest of the country to allow the South East take its turn in producing the president.

His words: “For the good of Nigeria, we believe our geo-political interest should extend to ethnic regions in Nigeria that aspire to its mission of uniting all Nigeria of like minds, through the concept of standing together for the betterment of the entire Nigeria.

“We believe in alignment. We cannot get presidency by ourselves, even if all the Igbo vote. We are already working with people from other zones and we are in talks with them already.

“Ndigbo and some other regions believe more in a restructured Nigeria. People can feel free to have their aspirations and you cannot stop it.

“There is need to restructure Nigeria to ensure true federalism based on regions or zones. We need Nigeria political structure that is based on equity, fair play, balance and equal access to political power for the good of all Nigerians.”

Even though Nigeria is bad, there are things one needs to do to still carve positive value for themselves. If she had never portray herself as cheap actress and prostitute no one will ever address her as such

If government schools were good who will go to private school?
Now you wanna dictate to private schools how much to pay.
The way you people talk like empty drums is very disturbing. Will it be rather better for the government to look the other way while the private schools throw more children out of school by making fees unaffordable for parents?

You are not worried why the private schools should still charge the same fees even when the federal government has taken up to pay the salaries of their teachers for three months. And also the fact that this term is just about 6 weeks.

If USA does not succeed, WTO is gone. Why would Trump be interested in anything good about the shithole called Nigeria when the Nigerians are not interested in anything good about their country? Nigeria has absolutely nothing to offer the world in trading session. How many bolts and nuts are produced in Nigeria compared with South Korea?
I want to ask you, was this position competitive in the first place? If yes, why should one country be pushing to edge out someone that has already garnered the majority endorsement? If in your stupid opinion, Nigeria has nothing to offer, why allow them to participate in the first place? You people allow your hatred for your country and frustration to influence you so much. If not, you will never imagine that you know better than those 104 countries that endorsed the woman.

This is a welcome development. I am not against any loan being procured for infrastructural development. So long as it's being utilized for the purpose it was meant for. After all America, UK and other developed countries of the world are highly indebted even as their economy looks like Eldorado.
PoliticsFG To Apply For $11bn Loan To Construct Lagos-calabar Rail Line — Amaechi by contigiency(op): 10:17am On Oct 20, 2020
Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, said, yesterday, that the Federal Government was set to apply for a $11billion loan to construct Lagos to Calabar rail. Amaechi made the disclosur y during an interactive session with the South-East and South-South Professionals of Nigeria, SESSPN, in Lagos.

The group had taken advantage of the Minister’s presence in Lagos to hold talks with him on challenges facing the regions, particularly in the areas of security, power, social integration and representation in the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government.

Amaechi on why railway work was yet to commence in the South-East, said, “I hate tribalism. I’ve said this before. For me, I’m a Nigerian, and what informs my decision of choosing which rail line to construct at any point in time, is the economics of rail; and currently, the economics shows that Lagos to Kano has the capacity to move 30 million tonnes of cargo per year.

“I did same analysis for Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail line and it’s 11 million tonnes. We are currently doing the analysis for Lagos to Calabar to know how many tonnes of cargo can be moved there per year. So, we started with the Lagos to Kano rail line. President Olusegun Obasanjo approved it, President Jonathan started construction on it by doing Abuja to Kaduna and President Buhari told us to complete all previous projects.

“Now, we are applying for $11billion loan to construct Lagos to Calabar rail. There was no design for Port Harcourt-Maiduguri. We knew that the first thing to do was to commence a feasibility study, after that, we’ll do the design. It’s now they’ll start to do the site drawing. In the next three months, they will be doing that, you’ll start shouting again: why are they not constructing? You forget that Ibadan to Kano, they are just finishing the design now, that’s why they’ve not started construction.

“The President told us that all rail lines in Nigeria must be standard gauge. So, we did a standard gauge design for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line. We went to Bonny to do the study and we did that study up to Maiduguri. I did a feasibility study that brought it between $14 billion to $11 billion.

“When we finished, we got approval from the President, but I realised that we may not get the money in this government. I changed my course, and I said, while we are looking for money for the standard gauge for Port Harcourt-Maiduguri, let me ask for money to reconstruct the narrow-gauge at $3.1 billion. And the President after much argument, accepted. After sometime, he agreed, that we can proceed with the narrow-gauge, while seeking money to construct the standard gauge”. “At least, I’m sure that before we leave government, we would have done up to 80 per cent of that rail line. Also, there was no line to Owerri, I added Owerri to the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail design, because of the Industrial Park and the University of Transportation in Ubima,” Amaechi added.

Politics2023 Presidency: Ohanaeze Urges South-east Govs To Join APC, Laments Continued M by contigiency(op): 7:33am On Oct 20, 2020
In its continued agitation for a Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023, the Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, has called on governors from the South-East geopolitical zone to join the governing All Progressives Congress(APC) in the interest of the people.

Ohanaeze hinted that there are no political benefits for the South East zone to remain in a political party that has no respect and value for the Igbos except milking their votes during elections through deceitful mediums and fake promises.

The call was contained in a press statement signed by OYC President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary-General, Okwu Nnabuike and made available to newsmen on Monday.

Ohanaeze youths further urged the South-East governors to save the political future of the Igbo nation and collapse three states into the All Progressives Congress(APC) before the party’s National convention to control their state structures.

The body said the development would serve as sanctions for the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to reverse their decision for an open presidential contest to zoning formula, as enshrined in its constitution.

According to the OYC statement, “Historically, Igbos had never remained in the opposition party since 1960. Igbos deserves better deals, and only through active roles in the mainstream political party will there be an increase in dividends of democracy and projects in the Southeast zone. The continuous exclusion of the South-East zone from the federal government’s crucial political appointments and landmark projects are attributed to Igbo’s absence in mainstream governance. Igbo youths want these unpleasant situations to end, and OYC urges South-East governors to embrace APC and decamp without further delay.

PoliticsEdo Assembly Impeaches Speaker, Okiye by contigiency(op): 12:56pm On Oct 12, 2020
The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Francis Okiye, has been impeached. His removal followed a motion by the Majority Leader of the House, Henry Okhurobo, that Okiye be removed over allegations of high-handedness. His impeachment letter was signed by nine out of the 10 members who were present during a brief sitting on Monday.

The House immediately swore in Marcus Onobun, representing Esan West State Constituency, as the new Speaker. The crisis in the Edo State House of Assembly began when it was inaugurated under controversial circumstances at night with only nine, out of 24 lawmakers-elect, on June 17, 2019, following an alleged proclamation by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The lawmakers, who were not part of the process, as well as the All Progressives Congress, rejected the process and called on the governor to issue a fresh proclamation. However, a Federal High Court in Rivers State barred the governor from doing so. A separate court also barred the National Assembly from taking over the Edo Assembly.

However, the APC claimed the men were thugs hired by the governor who was afraid of being impeached. The PUNCH had earlier reported that the governor, who later dumped the APC for the Peoples Democratic Party said shortly he won the September 19 poll that he lacked the power to bring back the 14 lawmakers yet to be inaugurated.

Obaseki explained that the 14 lawmakers “refused to be inaugurated”. “We should learn that democracy is underpinned by the constitution and the law. “Even if I wanted today to bring them back, I don’t have such powers. “I do not have anything against them because I do not have such authority to bring them back to the house.”

PoliticsOnitsha Dry Port: Ohanaeze Extols Buhari, Amaechi by contigiency(op): 7:14am On Oct 11, 2020
THE Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council (OYC) Worldwide has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, for giving them the Onitsha Dry Sea Port in Anambra State which was first promised 42 years ago.

The OYC, in a statement jointly signed by its President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Secretary General, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, described the development as a positive one in the right direction.

The Igbo youth group, which said it witnessed the flag-off of the Pilot Barge Operations from Onitsha River Port to Onne, thanked both President Buhari and Amaechi for the historic feat as it would enhance the economic growth of the region. The group noted that the number of heavy-duty trucks on the road would be minimized with the Onitsha port becoming operational.

He, therefore, called on Igbo businessmen to make adequate use of the Onne Port, as barge operators would convey containers to Onitsha port. The group also called on the Abia State government to liaise with the Federal Ministry of Transport to see how they can actualize commencement of operation in Owerrinta Dry Sea Port, Isiala Ngwa South, Abia State, for the benefit of Igbo businessmen residing in Aba and Owerri environs.

“We are aware that Abia State Government and Federal Ministry of Transport are in touch, and hopefully it will be another developmental stride of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government in the Southeast.”
