All the bragging s will cease except for a rebranding. What is this 1 talking? smh! |
obitwo: If you look at what the SE states have been contributing to the centre versus what they've been getting, you will realize that the SE states have been profiting from the FG alongside the North. Only the SS and SW states have been making loses comparing their contribution to the centre to what they get from itTalking about what fg govt is getting from southeast compelling it with other regions is rubbish. Just like hopping to harvest more where you have planted nothing, oil was first discover in Ebonyi state but was abandoned for just no reason. Onitsha was the biggest trade zone in west African but lack seaport and international airport to support its growth Who build the international airport in Lagos =FG Who build seaport =FG Who site all the multi-national companies in Lagos that should have been in Niger delta where their operational base are the same FG Their is Wharf in Kanu, Kaduna operating directly from Lagos but none in the east =FG the list is endless. Donmichaelz: These is not to create any dis-unity amongs us.I have heard people say the NORTHERNERS(Hausa's) but what they fail to realise is Hausa's are the best farmers in Nigeria. Some say it is the SOUTH WEST(Yorubas),which I don't and will never belive because they have the most peaceful environment in Nigeria and where there is peace there is Growth.LWKMD to your myopic thinking Without Nigeria Lagos will be no more or less attractive. International airport and seaport will no longer boom. Many mult-national company will leave Lagos Lagos will be less than 4million in population. Houses in VI, banana island will be less than 25k a year because of low patronage. Imagine when DIRTY old Yoruba from Ekiti, Osogbo, Ogbomosho etc, littered Lagos with shirt. (nylons with shirt everywhere in the street) smh. Places like Okuta, Festac, satellite town, Alaba International market areas, trade fair, Banana island etc will go back to its usual slump. Can Yoruba alone maintain Lagos? All the oil sector company in Lagos will move to Niger delta (who will allow company to be operating in different country with it headquarters in another country) |
Igbo have been surviving with out FG |
Governor Amaechi in white gets down from his car to talk with the police
|
Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt • After widespread public condemnation of the Police blockade of the access road to one of the entrances to Rivers State Government House last night that denied Governor Chibuike Amaechi access, the Rivers Police Command this afternoon removed the blockade. However, five trooper Police vehicles and armed policemen are still manning the sealed office of the New Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Secretariat opened by Tony Okocha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Amaechi yesterday. Simon Lalong,The Chairman of the former Speakers' Forum and ex-Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, who was among the former Speakers in the entourage of Amaechi when they were denied access called on the National Assembly to urgently call for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar over what he described as police impunity in Rivers State. Lalong said the police may have acted on a directive from the State Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu who takes his instructions from the Inspector General of Police and called for his (IG's) resignation. He said what has happened is not really police overzealousness as the police are controlled by higher authorities and requested that people should collectively call for the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, because as the highest-ranking police officer, the Police Commissioner (Joseph Mbu) takes instructions from the Inspector General of Police. " For this level of impunity, I think the National Assembly should start calling for the resignation of the Inspector-General, not even the Commissioner". "I was only watching these things (happening in Rivers State) on television and reading in the newspapers but I saw what happened this evening as the highest level of impunity in Nigeria for a governor who has immunity and everything to be stopped on the way blocked by policemen. It means that they are in another way trying to remove his immunity unconstitutionally. So it is really very unfortunate on the side of the police, so we don't have police protection again". Lalong called on the international community to begin to look at this situation “because it is no longer about the governor because if the Governor can suffer such indignity, then the ordinary person will be worse for it. “I think something must be done in respect to the Nigeria Police that we are funded with taxpayers money. Many of us were afraid when we saw this kind of thing (the roadblock), so if it is happening to the governor who has immunity, what about people who don't have immunity, so very soon maybe you will see people, they will start arresting people in their houses, so I wonder what is really happening. I think the President must intervene in this issue", he said. Rivers State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, Rotimi Amaechi has condemned the Thursday night Police blockade of the access road to the State Government House, saying that it is the height of lawlessness and impunity. Governor Amaechi was returning to Government House, Port Harcourt with the Forum of former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria at about 7.00pm after an inspection of numerous projects executed by the governor when it was discovered there was a police roadblock at the Port Harcourt Club junction along Forces Avenue. Amaechi while receiving the forum on Thursday night in Government, said, "all of you saw how the former Speakers came down from the vehicle to tell them (police) where we were coming from, but the Police resisted. It is for Nigerians to see that we no longer have democracy in this country. We are now in a regime where, the law is no longer supreme. We must rise up against this impunity against our democracy”, Amaechi said. The Governor has apologized to the ex-Speakers of Nigeria for the embarrassment by the Rivers Police Command. "I apologize for the embarrassment you suffered during our return from inspection to various projects.” Also reacting, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and ex-Senator Olorunimbe Mamora expressed sadness at the Police action, recalling that Governor Amaechi made the detour to get to the Government House with his guests because he is a responsible citizen. Senator Mamora said: "I think to say the least that (roadblock) was quite unfortunate because we were coming from inspection of projects, more than 70 former speakers were in the governor's (Amaechi) entourage to inspect projects and on our way back to the Government House, we discovered that we just couldn't pass because the road had been blocked and we were wondering of course what was happening only to discover that it was a group of policemen who claimed to be acting on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police here in Rivers State and it was quite unfortunate I would repeat because you would wonder why such a thing would happen". He said that Freedom of movement is guaranteed under the constitution and “a situation where you are now compelled without any justifiable reason not allowed to pass despite all our entreaties, all our appeals made to that effect and we thought that as responsible citizens of this country”. http://.mobi/output.php?id=11912 |
There has been notion among Nigerians that Malaysia came to Nigeria some years ago to get seedlings for oil palm which has placed the country as number one oil palm producing country while Nigeria lag behind in ranking. But this assertion was debunked recently by crop scientists when some select journalists, fellows of the Biosciences for Farming in Africa (B4FA,) were in the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research (NIFOR). JIMOH BABATUNDE captured the presentations of Dr. (Mrs.) Christy Okwuagwu, the most senior crop scientist at the institute. Here is an excerpt. On how Malaysia got its oil palm seeds Malaysia has overtaken Nigeria in palm oil production. I want you to see the well documented origin of the very original planting materials for oil palm in Malaysia. The earliest record of palm into Far East Asia was four seedlings planted in a botanical garden in 1848 in java in the Dutch East Indies. Two of these were from Amsterdam botanical garden, but it is not known how they originated, the other from Bogo or Mauritius in Indian Ocean. The palm that sprang from these four seedlings was all quite similar and they were supposed originally produced from Amsterdam through some African unknown origin. These four seedlings formed the entire source of the planting materials in Malaysia and that we say the entire population of planting materials in Malaysia have a very narrow genetic base. We don’t normally entirely depend on them for breeding and development. Actually it is necessary they depend on us and subsequent materials to improve their planting materials. The original materials never came from Africa, never came from Nigeria. They were from Dutch expedition of the early 19th century and because they discovered that the crops had economic advantage in their land they started multiplying these seedlings and raising them as plantation crops. They don’t have natural populations. This is the source of everything in south East Asia. So, there is no way to assume that Malaysia came to Nigeria and got planting materials and now they have over taken us. They never did. People say this carelessly but they did not. I know you are journalists, this is one of the basic information I want you to debunk in every situation, because we know truly that it is true the Dutch expedition that the Malaysians had these planting materials in the 19th century. On the birth of NIFOR Plantation had expanded in South East Asia at that time, but, our people are still depending on the wide groves, so come the turn of the 20th century they found it very necessary to have research stations to develop plantation technology and by 1922 they started going to the wide groves to do genetic selections and by 1939 NIFOR was established, where all the genetic materials will be assembled, evaluated and developed into a plantation crop. Plantation crop never existed in this country. It was the hope of the colonial masters that plantation crops developed and once the plantation crop develops, the oil palm develops into a plantation crop, and then they can compete with organised south East Asia that already had their own plantation crop development. This never happened unfortunately, after 1939 we now had research into oil palm with NIFOR as headquarters, we had in Ghana, Freetown, Sierra Leone. These were the three centres where these centres were established. Nigeria remains the oil palm station. Come 1954 the name was changed to West African oil palm research institute, no longer a research station, but a research institute. A full fledge research institute not just to carry out research on genetic development, but other diverse technology development to support the industry. We became WIFOR, West African Oil Research Institute, but when the component countries became independent, they took their own research stations to become their national research stations. Ours became Nigerian institute for oil palm research that is what we are today. This is little background to two information I want to pass across, that one Malaysia never came to Nigeria to collect planting materials and two that NIFOR actually existed because of the threat that Malaysia posed to continuous exploitation of wide groves. If research has made significant impact in Nigeria Yes and no. Yes because almost all the technology, the fundamental technologies for oil palm development originated from the research here. All the technologies that support oil palm development came from here. The early research that was carried in WIFOR and NIFOR has been the root of basic information that support plantation development, so it has been very positive towards us Nigerians or Africa. African countries are being characterized by instabilities of policies. These instabilities of policies and developments have stunted the growth in plantation developments. Concerted efforts have not been made over the years as it has been in south-east Asia, Indonesia and Malaysia, in developing those crops. The industries in this country have not grown at the rate the research development has grown. The oil boom became a doom because palm produce became unimportant, relatively unimportant to our total economic well being. We are totally dependent on petroleum. And so efforts to establish plantations and go forward with this crop did not grow. Over the years the federal government made interventions, but they are inconsistent and irregular that does not sustain developments. We had the DFFIRs in the 80s, in the 90s we had other programs, in the early 21th century, we started with VODEM and now we are coming to ATA. None of them are linked, a government wakes up and develop his, when the government goes, it dies. Another government comes in with another and the circle continues and so the policies are not carrying the nation along. They are not carrying the nation, it is not coursing development in the industry, and the private people are not mobilized. The policies do not mobilize the private people who are to develop the industry and the industry is where it is now, we are net importer of vegetable oil. More than 70% of our palm oil still comes from the wide grove. We are still exploiting the wide grove. Productivity in the wide grove is still very low, small holder productivity very low, very few oil palm estate, very few Nigerians are coming out to put their money where their mouth is. This crop which is native to us, we have not done the goods we should have done with it. Other countries which have embraced it have seen progress and are really very fortunate. I know that our environment is not the best compared to south east Asia, but we have planting materials which are so good and their yield are very comparable with average yield in south east Asia. It is to get the industry committed to the development of this crop and I am very glad to see young people coming forward to know what is to be done and you are a mouth piece of the nation, so I am glad you are going to carry this message to our people that they should go into plantation development. On impact on environment Oil plant plantation stabilizes the environment, where are talking of development. Ozone depletion, the oil palm is one single plant that cleans the environment. Malaysia prides itself of the best environment in the world because its environment is totally green. Everywhere is green. It has a beautiful shielding effect against the ozone and I want you to have a clarion call with us that people should please come back to our heritage. Let the groundnut spring up in the north again, the cocoa boom in the west again while in the mid west and the east let the oil palm thrive again. The goodness of it is that the oil palm has grown beyond the mid west and the east. Nassarawa is a good example. I was in Nassarawa Eggom LGA sometimes ago and they are doing were doing more than the local governments here in Benin in making sure farmers get oil palm seedlings and for that reason they attracted us to come to them , we established an outreach station for them. Every year we make sure we satisfy them with the seedlings which the farmers demand very well. In Taraba state, the whole stripe along the Gembu, Mabilla plateau, it is excellent, just like Malaysia. It has good soil, good rain fall, but people are not planting. We had a plantation in Gembu in the 80s; the yield was as if you were in Calabar. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/malaysia-never-took-oil-palm-seed-from-nigeria/ |

The Italian coast guard said Saturday it had rescued more than 700 migrants and refugees, including many Syrians and Egyptians, from four struggling boats, the latest in a surge of refugee arrivals. There were also Nigerians among them. But their number was not stated. Coast guard and navy vessels rescued the migrants from troubled boats off the coast of Sicily on Friday and Saturday, rushing four of them — a mother, father and their two young children — to hospital for emergency care, the coast guard said. One broken-down boat was carrying 207 migrants from Nigeria, Ghana and Eritrea, including six children and two women in the late stages of pregnancy. Another boat was carrying 212 migrants including eight children and was being towed toward the tiny island of Lampedusa, Italy’s southernmost point. The coast guard did not say where the passengers were from. Two other boats carrying a total of 293 Syrians and Egyptians were brought Friday to Augusta, on the eastern coast of Sicily. The number of refugees trying to reach Italy in dinghies and other boats has increased in recent months because of surging violence in Syria and Egypt and calm summer weather that has tempted many to try their luck on the seas. The Italian interior ministry says 3,000 Syrians arrived in Italy from the beginning of the year to the end of August, mostly arriving by boat in eastern Sicily. Last week, on 27 August 10 Nigerians were among the 81 African migrants from a large dinghy that was adrift and sinking some 18 nautical miles from the island of Malta. They were all rescued. http://.mobi/output.php?id=11747 |

Galatians 6:7-9 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap….for he that sows to the flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting (absolute life, the anointing, power of the Holy Spirit)….let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (if we stay constant, and don’t quit). |
FALLACY OF SEED SOWING (2 TIMOTHY 3: 6, 4:3-4) We are in the heart of the last days and the prophecies of the scripture are being fulfilled in our very own eyes, daily. Today if you turn to virtually every corner of the city, you see a church or ministry as they are called now. Frankly, most believers in Christ misconstrue the meaning of church, ministry and denomination. That is a message for another time though. The Scripture says in 2 Timothy 3: 6-7, “For this sort are they which creep into houses, and led away captive silly women laden with sins, led away with diverse lusts, ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” In 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 it says, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lust shall they heap to themselves teachers with itching ears; “And they shall be turned unto fables.” In Micah 2: 11, the Scripture says, “If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying I will prophesy unto thee of wine and strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.” This scriptural verse agrees with 2 Timothy 4:3-4, all that most ‘followers of Christ’ want in these last days, are self- edifying sermons, not necessarily what God wants them to do. The reigning message is no longer, ‘seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you,’ but sow seed in the church or ministry and whatever you want shall be added unto you, in the preacher’s declared measures. I think every believer with the spirit of discernment ought to know where this heretic doctrine comes from. Most Christians are very deficient and lazy in searching the scripture to listen to what God wants them to understand about His purpose for their lives, but run to places where all manner of teachings and doctrines are taught. We prefer to follow the easy way where multitudes are found while neglecting the caution that says ‘the path that leads destruction is broad and narrow is the way and strait is the gate that leads to eternal life’. The first time I heard of the sowing of seed was when I came to Jos newly. On 9th September 2001, the Sunday after the Friday 7th September 2001 Jos North ethno-religious crisis, I went to a church in Kufang. After the sermon, the pastor of the church said that there was need for us to pray so that we will have a peaceful week, which was good. But what troubled me was, when he asked who will sow seed of three thousand naira (N3000.00), two thousand naira (N2000.00) and one thousand (N1000.00) and so forth. I was wondering when the Lord has changed his principle of answering prayers by grace, to answering prayers by sowing of seeds. I was invited to a program in a church some few years back at FDA Road Dadin Kowa Jos; a pastor from a different church was invited to preach. He preached wonderfully about the last days and the maneuvers of Satan to destroy the church, but after the sermon he said that those who would want to escape the snares of the devil should sow seed of two thousand naira (N2000.00) to be prayed for. And if they didn’t have the cash on them at the moment, they should make pledges. Those pastors are cunning with words and intimidate their congregation into sowing seeds; otherwise, their prayers will not be answered. In fact that same pastor gave a testimony, where he said in his church the Lord told them to bring plastic chair each, but a lady refused. So one day when she was preparing for her wedding, he met her and reminded her about the chair, but she didn’t take heed. On her way to the village he said, a car lost control and drove straight to where she sat in a bus, and hit it hard and she died. According to him, she died because she refused to bring a plastic chair to his church, by implication, it can be said that she went to hell because she refused to bring a plastic chair to a church. Candidly, only Satan can do that and not Jesus Christ of the Holy Bible. When has God dropped faith to embrace material things as a condition for inheriting his promises? His word says, “Without faith it is impossible to please Him.” (Hebrews 11: 6). In James 1: 5-6 it is written, “If any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and up braideth not; and it shall be given him. “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with wind and tossed.” When Peter met the lame man at the Gate called Beautiful, the man did not sow seed before Christ healed him through Peter, but his faith. The woman with the issue of blood was not healed by Christ because she sowed seed, but her faith. I can go on and on. The people that believe such pastors don’t have the spirit of God. The spirit of God is not the author of confusion, and is full of knowledge and wisdom. I want those that sow seeds for prayers by their pastors to tell me, the prayers they do before eating their food, their morning devotion, before embarking on a journey and so on, to whom do they sow seeds to? Are they not the prayers of faith? If you believe that praying at night before going to bed will move God to protect your family, why would you believe that sowing seed is prerequisite for God to answer your prayers on other issues?. What is it that you have that has not been given to you by God? And what will you give to God to bless you and how much do you worth to buy His blessings? He said, “The Heaven is my throne and the earth my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? And where is my place of rest? “For all these things had mine hand made, and all those things have been saidth the LORD: but to this will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembleth at my word.” Isaiah 66: 1-2. To prove further that God is more interested in our hearts, Jesus Christ said that if you bring your offering to the alter, and remember that someone has something against you, leave your gift at the alter and go and reconcile first. With these how can someone tell you that it is the seed, and you believe? Apostle Paul through the spirit of God said, “Let us come with boldness unto the throne of grace to obtain help in time of need.” In Hebrews 4: 16 Jesus said, “He that comes to me in no wise will I cast him away.” Why is it that you cannot go to the throne of grace with boldness so much that you have to sow seed for someone to pray on your behalf? Is there fire at the throne of grace? Has God cast you away? Why fall prey to these Sooth Sayers that pose as servants of God? Christ said, “Come unto me ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest, do you exclude yourself from this call? Matthew 11: 28. Christ wants you to come to him directly, he is not a terrorist. How many seeds did you sow, that made God sent Him to die for you and I? If his death was free, where did God say you must sow seeds for Him to hear your prayers? God cannot be bribed. God spoke through the Psalmist saying, “I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he-goats out of thy folds. For every beast of the forest are mine and the cattle upon thousand hills. “I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell thee; for the world is mine, and the fullness thereof. Will I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats? “Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the Most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” Psalm 50: 9-15 Brothers and sisters God wants us to ask in faith and not sow seed for our prayers to be answered. Christ paid the supreme sacrifice; all that He wants from us is to reach out to Him in faith. |

— TRAGEDY-- Saturday night, as at least eight persons including a Pastor’s wife, Pastor (Mrs) Hellen Samuel, her three children, Saviour, Ensigne and Purity, were reportedly killed in an auto crash in Katagbegi village of Niger State. The accident occured when the bus owned by the Niger State Transport Authority they were travelling in ran into an articulated truck at a bad spot along Bida-Minna road. The family of Pastor Abraham Samuel of the PotterPorchChurch, Minna and the other passengers in the bus were said to be travelling from Lagos to Minna when the crash occured at about 8pm, Saturday night. The bus, according to eyewitness, was said to have caught fire shortly after the accident, thereby making rescue efforts difficult. It was, however, gathered that only one passenger was rescued alive with serious burns. Special Adviser to the Niger State Government on Emergency and Disaster Management, Mohammed Shaba, confirmed that the eight bodies had been recovered from the scene of the accident, even though the bus was believed to be carrying 18 passengers at the time of the accident. Shaba said corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the Minna GeneralHospital. The passengers were said to have been burnt in the vehicle because the local people that rushed for the rescue efforts lacked the capacity to curtail the fire. Our correspondent who went to the church met the Pastor preaching during yesterdy’s church service after which he announced the demise of his wife and three children. Members of the church screamed at the news but the Pastor remained calm with elders of the church around him. According to Pastor Samuel who, however, maintained sober mood “My wife and the kids are resting.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/08/pastors-wife-3-children-4-others-perish-in-road-crash/ |
