A school that was turned into a brothel where hoodlums pay guards to allow them have sex with their female companions at night has been raided by Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria. During the raid, two guards at the school, Ilupeju Grammar School, located at Ilupeju in Oshodi, were arrested and charged to court in connection with their alleged despicable roles in the matter. P.M.NEWS investigations revealed that the two guards, 60-year old Mr. Julius Okenla, and 45-year old Mr. Adebowale Adeloye, were accused of allowing hoodlums to sleep with their female friends in the school after they had allegedly been paid. It was gathered that hoodlums who want to sleep in the school pay between N200 and N300 to the guards, while those with female companions pay N700 to be allowed to sleep in the school to have sex. At the Special Court in Alausa where the guards were arraigned, they pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against them and were granted bail in the sum of N50,000 each, plus two sureties each who must have evidence of three years tax payment. They were sent to Ikoyi Prison pending when they will meet the bail conditions. Taskforce Chairman, Bayo Sulaiman, a Chief Superintendent of Police, said some of the hoodlums not only paid money to the security guards to be allowed to sleep inside the school but also vandalized the school’s property. He said school authorities had been complaining that hoodlums messed up their schools and excrete on students’ lockers, adding that such things might be happening in other schools where touts pay money to sleep in them and carry out their nefarious activities. Speaking with P.M NEWS in his office Thursday, the Principal of Ilupeju Grammar School, Odi-Olowo Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Otunba Y.O. Bashorun, said he cannot say categorically that the guards were collecting money from miscreants to sleep within the school premises since he did not catch them red-handed. “Could you believe that we have just two security men as big as this school is? One for morning and another one for night duty. What can one person do in the midst of multitude? In fact, we usually pay the good ones among the touts to help assist them while on duty. “What we want now is for the government to come to our aid. This environment is not conducive for learning. We are surrounded by motor parks and touts. Opposite us is Ilupeju park, behind us is Ibadan park. They always disturb us with their blaring loud speakers while soliciting for passengers.. “If you go round the school, you will see what I am talking about. Touts usually scale the fence to gain entrance into the premises. Some parts of the wall have even been broken by these people. If you wait till about 6-7.p.m., you will see them coming in.” According to him, “weekend is the worst. You will see them washing their clothes by the school tap and they will dry it on the school wall. Sometimes if I come to do some work here on Saturdays, I have to lock myself up in this office because I don’t want anybody to come and attack me. “By Monday morning, the classrooms would have been littered with faeces, urine an all sorts of dirt. Some danfo (commuter bus) drivers even park their vehicles in this compound without the consent of the school authorities. What they do is that they park the buses late in the night and remove them early in the morning.” Bashorun further said: “I so much like what happened. It will send a signal to the miscreants that it is not going to be business as usual in this school premises. The era of coming here to pass the night and wash their clothes in the school premises has gone. In fact, some of them have even fled. “What we want now is that the state government should come to our rescue and make this environment conducive for learning. All the students see everyday are different forms of social vices which is not okay for their learning experience. We need tough, well trained security personnel and not old men like we used to have before.” —Kazeem Ugbodaga & Yisa Jamiu http://pmnewsnigeria.com/2013/07/05/lagos-school-turns-brothel/

EROMOSELE EBHOMELE If the bill being considered by the Lagos State House of Assembly, southwest Nigeria scales through, then the activities of land speculators and grabbers, locally called omo-onile in the state, would be banned with a three-year jail term or a fine of N300, 000 slammed on anybody who parades himself as one. The Lagos State Properties Protection Bill 2013, which contains the punishment, also states that it would be a crime for anyone to trespass or forcefully occupy any landed property that does not belong to him. The bill seeking to regulate the forceful takeover of landed properties, a major problem to land ownership in the state, scaled the second reading on the floor of the House on Thursday. The private-member bill also stipulates that anyone found with fire arms, weapons or chemical material with the intent to forcefully takeover any land would face death sentence. To make the law effective when passed, a special offence court would be established to try any person found guilty, while any one who contravenes. Speaking on the advantages of the bill, Chairman Committee on Lands and Housing, Bayo Osinowo, said if the bill is eventually passed, it would address so many atrocities committed by land grabbers in the State. According to Osinowo, 60 percent of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) in the State are fake just as he said that the bill will also correct such anomalies when passed. “In Lagos State, land is our major resource. It is our petrol compared to the oil producing states in the country; therefore nothing done will be too much to protect its sanctity,” he said. Members unanimously supported the bill saying it would assist the State’s desire for peace and unity. Speaking in favour of the bill also, Osinowo’s colleague, Sanai Agunbiade, explained that the bill would take care of land agents who parade themselves and seize the position to take landed properties forcefully. He said: “the bill would prevent the so-called ‘omo-onile’ from potential buyers before or during construction work.” He further explained that the bill would prevent anyone, who without lawful authority, uses or threatens violence for the purpose of securing entry into any landed property for himself or for any other person. The bill has been committed to the Committees on Lands and Housing as well as Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petitions to look into it and report back in a month. http://.mobi/output.php?id=10123 |

In Another related news BY DAUD OLATUNJI ABEOKUTA — The embattled Olofin of Ado-Odo in Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Abdul Lateef Adeniran, who was beaten by hoodlums, broke his silence, yesterday, saying the hoodlums that attacked him attempted to rape his wife while his crown and other valuables were stolen. Oba Akanni, who appeared before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the crisis that sat in Isabo, Abeokuta, also lamented that a sum of N1.5 million kept in his palace as at the time of the incident was stolen by the hoodlums who burnt down his palace. There has never been a philanthropist on the scale of MKO Abiola in the history of Nigeria. His oft-repeated life’s ambition was to touch the life of every Nigerian one way or another. In March 1990, he donated N1m (equivalent of N40 million in 2010) to each State University, N50,000 (N2 million in 2010) to each Federal University for student welfare, N20,000 (N800,000 in 2010) to the libraries of each Federal University and N25,000 (N1 million in 2010) to each Polytechnic and College of Education. He is credited with the construction of 63 secondary schools and 41 libraries. He established Abiola Bookshops to provide affordable, locally produced textbooks in the 1980s when imported textbooks became out of the reach of ordinary Nigerians when the Naira was devalued. He awarded over 1,000 scholarships to deserving students in tertiary institutions at home and abroad. In addition those awarded by the Federal Government, MKO Abiola awarded bursaries to every single student from Ogun State. For every N500 they received from the Federal government, they received N250 from MKO Abiola. To delve into his contributions in sports, culture and welfare would turn this letter into a thesis. In politics as in philanthropy, he is unequalled. He broke tribal and religious barriers to a clear victory. He chose the path of valour and fought for the collective will of Nigerians from the four corners of this nation and everywhere in between. He willingly returned from exile, knowing the consequences of that action, prepared to pay with his life. The circumstances of his death shook the polity to its foundations and established the democracy we enjoy today, by far the longest period of rule by the people in our history. He lost his wife, the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, his businesses were decimated yet he voluntarily stayed in detention, rejecting conditional release. He died refusing to betray the mandate given to him by those who betray his memory today. No honour is too great for one of the men and women who laid down their lives for the democracy we enjoy today, that enables some to take to the streets, uttering irresponsible, abhorrent nonsense. We take a leaf from your book and illustrate the line “help our youth the truth to know”. The government of Egypt named a school after him in appreciation of his contribution after a devastating earthquake. Egyptians did not take to the street yet to their eternal shame, some people in Lagos did. But as the great man would say, as one is crying one should still see. The machinations and motives of those sponsoring the protests are obvious. If thirteen years of deafening silence from the Federal Government built on the blood of this man could not diminish his legacy, the actions of a few hooligans and rascals with no sense of history will certainly not. All glory and honour reside in the hands of the Almighty Allah, a righteous judge. MKO Abiola will not be denied. We now turn to those groups who feel that their positions have been threatened by an unprecedented act of grace by Your Excellency and urge them to desist. The general elections are three years away. There is no need for blind panic or for using MKO Abiola’s name and the larger issue of June 12th to score cheap political points against the ruling party. We urge them to focus on the task of national and regional development. We assure you of our support of any decision you take in this matter. We had no expectation of your gracious gesture and neither did MKO Abiola. He was driven by his love for Nigeria, not by the anticipation of honours. The few words you spoke provided justice and peace. No “masthead” can ever do that. We are satisfied and we are appreciative. You have acted as one who fears God and seeks to lead in justice and truth according to His will. In the final analysis and in view of the fickleness and short memory of some “students”, that is all that matters. We conclude with the assurance that your honouree would not be disturbed by this furore were he alive to witness it. When we would tell him we don’t like his nickname of Father Christmas and ask him why he gives so much, he would say that he is not doing it for the people but for Allah and that if he helps a thousand people and only one remembers that’s enough for him. It is enough for us too as is the certain fact that in due course, each of us will go where MKO Abiola has gone and leave children behind. With profound gratitude, Alhaji (Chief) Mubashiru Abiola Chief (Mrs) Adebisi Abiola Chief (Mrs.) Omolola Abiola – Edewor Alhaji Olalekan Abiola Miss Ayobami Abiola Alhaji Jamiu Abiola Mrs Bolanle Akande Mr Abdul Abiola |

madam_oringo: Well, give that advice to yourself, you need it MORE! Prof. Soyinka has no reason to argue, he was there, live, were you? Are you so bereft of mental capacity not to know that by declaring which day is the REAL Democracy day, June 12, he is telling YOU and NIGERIANS which day is the RIGHT ONE? Or do you expect him to descend to the level of a toddler mind like you to say, "here is the R-I-G-H-T and here is the W-R-O-N-G", etc? So everything OBJ did is right when it feeds into the hatefest frenzy of Ibos towards the Yorubas, a people they can not like because they boss them COMPLETELY, without even arguing or seeming to pay attention to Ibos always trying to "measure-up"? Well, OBJ was right in spending N 16 Tr for roads during his years including roads in ibo land, appropriating 60 B for your still-born 2nd Niger bridge which is yet to even see a single shovel digging the ground? I hope he was right in those circumstances too!. Madam_oringo did Igbos hate your hero more than your elders even at point of his death ![]() *********Lagos—Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the late Head of State, Sani Abacha, made startling disclosures in court on Monday on how Abacha and Moshood Abiola were killed in 1998. He said former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, offered huge sums of money to Yoruba leaders to appease them over Abiola's death. Abacha died on June 8, 1998, and Abiola, winner of the Presidential election held on June 12, 1993, died in incarceration on July 7, 1998. Al-Mustapha, who is standing trial over alleged complicity in the murder of Abiola's wife, Kudirat, on June 4, 1996 said he has been incarcerated since 1998 because of the top secret in his possession. He opened his defence before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos High Court, where he accused Abdulsalami of masterminding his perpetual detention. Al-Mustapha - led in evidence by his lawyer, Olalekan Ojo - broke down in tears when he told the court that he has both audio and video evidence on how Abacha and Abiola were murdered. He said Abdulsalami is living in fear that he would divulge information, hence the man wants him to spend the rest of his life behind bars. His words: "In the course of this testimony, I wish to say that I will omit any issue that will affect the national security of the country as a serving officer of the Nigerian Army. "My incarceration was as a result of a script written and acted out by (Abdulsalami) to further keep me in prison. "First, were the events that happened after the murder of (Abacha) and (Abiola). For fear that I may divulge information that led to their death; they have to keep me in prison." Al-Mustapha, who told the court that he was enlisted in the Army in 1980, said he served in various units before his appointment as Abacha's CSO. According to him, there is documentary evidence that after the death of Abiola, Abubakar allegedly ordered that various sums of money be withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), including $200 million,75 million, and N500 million to appease South West leaders and douse tension. http://www.google.com/petroleum/?aa_source=main-nav-t2 |
madam_oringo: You are really FUNNY, so was that a just, fair and statesmanly decision to make? In the circumstance, was that "right"? Does a self-serving decision of OBJ, and he made a lot during his leadership, become "right" because it feeds into the sentiments of Ibos who hate anything Yoruba even if it benefits them and they have nothing better in the whole Iboland? If this decision is "right", because OBJ is also a Yoruba man, then the burden of accepting every of his "wrong" decisions is now yours and you people would have lost the moral right to selectively pick what is right or wrong, or is it not the same Obasanjo?? OBJ and Chief Abiola were not "friends" and may be rivals but it is up to a fair, just-minded and sophisticated people to judge and say, well, "I don't agree with a lot of things X has done and think Y was right, but in the circumstance, as an impartial judge, X was right and deserved better in this case"!
