First of all, where is the matrimonial home? It can't be the one where the husband comes and goes as he pleases, chats with other women in front of her, begs other women to send him Unclad picture? Matrimonial home where she has to beg him to stay home at night in case she goes into labor?
it seems you are just reading what you want to read. the husband comes n goes as he pleases because the woman in question has made the house a hell-hole for him. who wants to return back home and face slaps, verbal abuses and curses? do you? did you not see where the man said he had been locked out at nights and stuffs or is this a case of myopia on your part?

My sister this matrimonial home you are talking about, is it different from the one where she left all alone with the baby while her husband goes out to drink with his friends, the home with the husband who brings nothing to the table but takes? Is that the Matrimonial home you speak of? Then my dear, you have big issues and it is a waste of time discussing with you.
you are putting the cart before the horse. a lot had happened before the husband started misbehaving. the wife is the abuser here. go and read the husband's defense before making judgements on your one-eyed analysis. it was the woman that started the abuses, locked him out, screamed, wailed to the neighbours and airing her dirty linen. i wouldn't stay at home with such wife as well. you also forgot where she said when the dude was woking, the wife never spent her wages. . . . .trouble started when the husband lost his job and women being what they are started feeling the pinch and getting aggressive.

Since we are all praying for each other, my prayer is that all the women who are urging this woman to stay preserve this wonderful matrimonial home be gifted with the same kind in ten folds.
Do I hear an Amen?
when your sister gets into such situation, move her out into your house and marry her. the funniest ish here is many of the women here would have managed the situation properly before it escalated to this crisis. it's all about understanding and maturity. what do you expect a man to do if a woman slaps him on the face? we should commend this man he has not retaliated. most men who take alcohol would have beaten her into a pulp with any slight provocation.

i am not in support of the husband but the wife has majority of the faults. . . . . .

Guy, are you married?
does he sound like a married man to you? anyone advising a woman to move out of her matrimonial house with a baby in the marriage can't possibly know the true value of the marriage institution. he probably feels marriage works the same way as boyfriend/girlfriend tiffs where either of the party can move out and move in as he/she pleases.

Why don't we ask Titilayo Arowolo about Moronic advice. I'm sure you are one of them who think you must die in marriage to gain value.
If you had any sense you will know that when a situation has reached a boiling point like this, the best thing to do is for everyone to get a time out. At least if she moves out, it will call the attention of the elders to their problems and they can help them work it out than remaining in the house, slapping each other until one person is pushed to the wall and reacts more violently.
except that it's the reverse situation here. . . . . .this man has not physically abused his wife, it's the other way round. read carefully before you make moronic comments. if anything, you should be advising the husband to move out cos he's the one on the receiving end of the physical abuse. the couple are married with a beautiful baby - i don't see how moving out of the house would help the child or the entire family.

If you know what is good for you, leave that house as soon as possible. You have to put some space between you and the fool you married until he is ready to be a husband. Your parents will prefer to be disappointed parents than grieving parents. undecided
she should leave her husband's house and then what? move into yours? are you even considering their baby in your moronic advice?

i never said you will never see anything ,  i said if you keep doing all these things dat good things will not come his way, and  i didnt say you are miserable life,  i said he his a saddest and find happiness when i cry and unhappy, and most esp,  i didnt say armed robbers will kill him,  he wore very dark shades when he was going out,  and i told him not to because he looked like an armed robber b4 they kill him,  and i ve appplogised severally since then,
it's ok. . . . .

it's only you and your husband that can work this out. my advice: you people need a long talk, sort out the differences and give it one last-ditch attempt to save this marriage. there's a child in the marriage already. for the sake of that innocent child who has nothing to do with your cursing, keeping late nights, drinking, stds, slaps and violence - make it work for the baby. if the 2 of you are not selfish, you would quit this nonsense and get a grip.

marriage has never been a smooth ride. both of you must work hard to make things right. forgive your hubby and move on from here.

I agree with all the contributions here, but, i must also they're a bit foolish and vacuous in some way.
you are a tool!
this same useless patriotism you preach is the biggest problem we have. rather than expose the ills and decay in that country, we quickly sweep it under the carpet because we don't want to say bad things about the most irresponsible country in the world.

Let me apprise u guys, this things that get us berserked at the mention of our country, might be the main purpose of our creation. We can make ourselves sui generis by serving a positive catalyst with our capacity. Heroes like mandela and roosevelt used daunting situations to make mark in sounds of time. Here, the main problem facing our existence is that we like enjoying instead of building. Hitherto the epoch of roosevelt, america was totally in moribund state, but, he came and metamorphosed america into an exemplary country. Sometimes, we fetter ourselves with the reasoning that u can only make impact with leadership positions, but we don't that little things that we do matters alot. A citizen will be crying of bad roads, while he's blocking the waterways with garbage.
mandela and roosevelt will not thrive in nigeria. mandela's parents would have warned him sternly to desist from his freedom fighting or renounce him publicly that he's no longer their son. same as roosevelt. nigeria have a very unique problem - people who have failed in nigeria would make it anywhere else. there's something about nigeria that is just different to everywhere else. i won't be surprised if the country is not within the same premises as lucifer's hell.

I graduated from secondary with mal practice filled o'level, when i realised myself i stopped it. Today, i'm suffering the nemesis, in the sense, that jamb last year was not release(after all my reading); this year the result was withheld and later released with high level of underscore. In all this, should i channel my time toward castigating the gov't? Implicit nope! Rather, i'm suppose to see for ways of informing my younger ones of the need to achieve success in academics through reading.
millions have paid their way from primary education to tertiary education and have made it. that karma is punishing you is just unfortunate. your case is about 1% of what the reality is in nigeria. if karma really exists, no one would be doing malpractices any more but you find a larger percentage of candidates doing it than the other divide.

Another bane of nigeria is our unpatriotism, we like vilifying our products always, without taking into cognizance that "the more u support the local manufacturers, the more they improve". How can a patriotic teacher, who wants the technological advancement of the country be helping students with expo?
forget this patriotism. patriotism hides the truth. patriotism paints nigeria as paradise when we all know the country is a hell-hole. a patriotic teacher has to be well-fed to think of the technological advancement of the country but are the tutors well-fed in nigeria? no! how won't they seek other means to get by when abject poverty is ruining things for them? why won't the police officers take bride when the government expects a man with a wife and 5 kids to live on 20,000 naira a month? a country with so much wealth and yet there's no social welfare or social security for the citizens and you are here preaching patriotism. may amadioha fire patriotism!

[quote author=gorky_park link=topic=717381.msg8767942#msg8767942 date=1311342803]I have but a few things to say; as I'm not one to air dirty laundry like OP has done here. Most of the posts here were utter lies. The rest is barely misunderstanding. Response regardless, I'm never posting on this thread again. But my brothers & sisters who've cared so much to respond also deserv. To know the truth.

1. I never asked for Unclad pics nor cald girls @ night

2. Never cheated (may've made some mistakes earlier in the marriage which I deemed causuall jokes to female friends, but know better now). I stood corrected since then.

3. I returned @ 11:58pm on our anniverssary becos I was working (before God & man, I must've 'flown' 3rd mainland bridge in 4mins) and drove like a maniac because I didn't want trouble). But trouuble it was as usual. Curses, screaming, vioelence etc

4. I'm not sure it's being muslim, but NLers, is it only christians who believe in power of the tongue and what proceeds from our mouths? In my home, statements like the fff are commonspeak.
- "I pray by God's grace, armed robbers will kill you"
- "I am the unluckiest woman in the world, to've married you"
- "You will never see anything good"
- "you are a miserable life, and you'll continue to be"

5. "Marriage brought him luck". If how I live on a daily in my home is definition of LUCK. I'd rather not be lucky

6. Empathy is why I cdnt tell my 8th month pregnant wife I got laid off. Many friends and
colleagues advised I do so as well. Thank God she found the letter (I never hid) on my dressing table; and took it calmly.

7. DSTV increment to N4,800 had me leave change of N200, when the teller didn't have any. On giving account of monies spent @ home, I said it was 5k. I recalled and told her myself later "oh, it's actually N4,800 not 5k. Dude had no change". I haven't gotten over this for 5months, as she rants every minute boout how I lied on DSTV bills *smh*

8. I spent a 350k gift for baby shower? Lie from pits of hell! If I knew or cd access that figure now, I'll find a way to improve status quo, business and otherwise ASAP

9. Lastly, she confessed to me a year before our wedding that she dated (or almost did) this colleague of hers, who's now rumored to be HIV positive. Now I should be held accountable for giving her HPV/warts?, *if only it could be diagnosed on men*

All , I cannot respond to as I type from my phone. The violence has increased through the years, she slaps the hell outta me very often (without retaliation of course). Wwhen the rave and rants begin, I've learned to stay silent and not say a word. This further aggravates her to smashing things and slamming doors. Screaming till all neighbours wake up. She often locks me out and refuses to open despite pings, texts, calls and thunderous door knocks? And now Nairalanders shd believe "sometimes he doesn't sleep at home and leave me and my child home alone". Fellaz, help me advise her to throw in a wrapper next time, maybe I'll consider sleeping on the staircase.

I've barely operated a bank account since I got married, cause I bring all I earn home, (In cash) to my family for bills, welfare and sustainance. Now all I hear is "Ibought u this shirt, I paaid for this, please leave my PC alone" *laughs*

However not proud, but yes I drink. I never came home to cause or react to violence. I find peace in hanging out and watching soccer with pals and colleagues. Besides, if this green bottle brings me more joy than sitting @ home all weekend, I'll raise my glass.

I'll not return to this thread nor respond to anything. If you have any advice for us, the poster lurks around the thread for a pity party. Kindly do so in good faith, as God will infinitely bless you. BTW I need him right now and more everyday

I have been dating this chic for like a month now, and I must confess that she's the best I've ever had. We are so compatible. And she's a walking example of my imaginations.

She told about it like 2 weeks ago but it sounded shallow. But last night when I asked her what was the greatest obstacle we had to overcome in order to get married, she said - RELIGION!

She said she was a Witness and that Witnesses don't marry outside. And that we shouldn't even think it cos it wont work. I have a lot to say but I cant even type it. I couldn't sleep last night. And am getting depressed right now.

I dont know what to do now cos I really, really, really love this chic. I really do need your advice. Can you guys help me?

If not that I have a higher calling and a vision I live for, I would have followed her to her church. But I just cant.

Can I get to convince or persuade her to join my RCCG church? Is it possible? Has it ever happened before?

Her whole family are Witnesses.

We are really in love with each other, though I think mine is deeper. But no one wants to let go of his or her beliefs to join the other person. If I switch, its as good as switching my destiny as well cos I need this pentecostal platform to fulfill my calling, and actualise my dream and visions.

Does anyone out there have any meaningful and workable advice for this dude, cos I would really, really love to get married to her.
this is one of the most idiotic posts i have read here. . . . .

you are the man(unless you wear sanitary towels) here for feck's sake. it means you can marry from any religion and by rights(especially in nigeria), your spouse must convert to your faith. as a man, i can marry a satan worshipper, a muslim, hindu, buddhist, etc. once we are hitched, she drops her religion and her father's last name to boot!

what's your business with what her family wants? as long as there's mutual love between you guys, her family has no bearing in it. if you truly love this girl, propose to her. . . let her deal with her family, and you can fold your hands and watch the drama unfold. if it gets too hot in the kitchen. . . elope with her, hire parents(i heard it's around $4 per head in oshodi) and do a grand wedding.

thanks so much, i havent told you half of what i have been through, today i took the bold step to asked him if he still wants to be married to me, but he didnt say anything, as usual he walked out on me. now i think i have reached the end of my marriage journey, i have learnt so much, i was really unlucky but i thank God that all other part of my life has been best thing that has happened to me.
i remember when i was on my last days of pregnancy, i beg my husband to alway stay home @ night because i could put to bed anytime and ill need him to take me to the hospital, he was still coming back really late. so i called my dad and cried to him that im having a feeling that i might put to bed soon and that there will be no one to take me to the hospital, my dad called my husband, but @ the end of this all i had to move back to my parents house since he claimed that he will be working till night daily( i couldnt tell my family that he had lost his job) my father told me that this just the smallest scarifise he cld ve made for me .my mum felt disappointed. so one day he came to visit me @ my parent s house with his friend and i told his friend how i felt, so unhappy abt putting my burden on my parents after all they have done for me and that all im asking my husband to do his to stay home @ nite for me,so that if im in labour he would take me to the hospital, so his friend adviced him and i moved back to our house, they day of my delivery, he wanted to drop me back @ my parents house that he was going for meeting , but i told him that i had a feeling ill put to bed on that day and that was how he was the one who too me to the hospital. im thinking of calling that his freind and just talk to him.

when he refused to say anything to me i told him to go to nairaland to see people s reply on what i have been through, im sure he is reading or have read this topic,. i didnt know that i was this strong to have gone through this and still be happy. if go back to my family today my dad and mum will be so so so sad to hear all i have been through. and if you reading this, remember all i have done for you, all the risk i have taken for you, how i stood my you in everything, and remember all the tears i have cried, remember all i have been through for you, remember all the sacrifises i have made and you i dont deserve all this, i deserve better

even in all these hardships, everybody is afraid to die and this is the aspect of our lives that makes these criminals(politicians) to continue in their efforts to make us beggars in our own country.

the brits handed over in 1960, nigeria had the black gold(plenty of it) and they mismanaged the proceeds for the past 50 yrs. of all the countries in the world with crude oil, nigeria is the least developed. what did our leaders do with the oil? nothing. over $100 billion have passed the hands of our leaders since then and yet the country is still in a sick state. we keep hearing vision 1990, vision 2000, vision 2020 and those frog-like looking fat politicians keep eating whilst the populace are left in abject poverty. yes, let's blame the brits for the misappropriation of funds by abacha, babangida, obasanjo, etc.

How will you know about others? Isn't your own situation all that counts?
this is exactly what i mean about nigeria's literacy level. you can read but you don't have the ability to write. i am sure you count yourself as one of the 72%(not the 76% you claimed) and i have been able to identify you as a semi-illiterate. surely, there must be other verminous simpletons like you claiming to be literate thus adding to the statistics but whose ability is at par with a well-trained german shepherd.

Go and educate yourself because you're ignorant. Start by visiting this link: Learn the UNICEF statistics on basic indicators of Nigeria, starting with literacy:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_literacy_rate
you will find out that you are the nincompoop with poop for brains. . . .now you go and re-educate yourself. . .

Education and Literacy: In 2004 Nigeria’s adult literacy rate was 69.1 percent on average, with
a higher rate for men (78.2 percent) than for women (60.1 percent). Nigeria provides free,
government-supported education, but attendance is not compulsory at any level, and certain
groups, such as nomads and the handicapped, are underserved. The education system consists of
six years of primary school, three years of junior secondary school, three years of senior
secondary school, and four years of university education leading to a bachelor’s degree.

In 2005
59 percent of girls and 68 percent of boys were enrolled in primary school. However, only 23
percent of girls and 28 percent of boys were enrolled in secondary school.

In 2004
the Nigerian National Planning Commission described the country’s education system as “dysfunctional.”
Reasons for this characterization included decaying institutions and ill-prepared graduates

Very few. Why? Because (surprise surprise) YOUR BRITISH RULERS DID NOT CONSIDER IT A 'PRIORITY' TO EDUCATE MASSES OF NIGERIANS, IE YOUR GRANDPARENTS, WHICH IS WHY MOST OF US INHERITED ILLITERATE, VILLAGE-BOUND GRANDPARENTS.

Thank God for Nigerian rule, because as soon as our so called ''useless, corrupt leaders'' came into power, they immediately went about the task of establishing thousands of primary and secondary schools in every nook and cranny of the country, making literacy jump to 76% today, from an all time high of 7% under British rule.
my grandparents were learned before they all passed away. . . . i dunno about yours.

and please don't make me laugh with the statistics that literacy has jumped to 76%. quality-wise, if compared to developed countries, nigeria's literacy cannot be more than 20%. literacy is the ability to read and write so i dunno how you came about the statistics that 76% nigerians can read and write.

You're an illiterate houseboy of the British. I bet you have on khaki shorts and shirt even as you type. The UI was not made a full fledged university until 1963 AFTER the British were kicked out. It was a ''University College'' under the British, and even worse, it was the ONLY one in the entire country after nearly 100 years of British rule, despite the fact they exported cocoa, groundnuts, rubber, iron ore, coal, tin etc for 100 years uninterrupted. Have you no brain? What did they do with all your money? OLODO. Contrast that with South Africa, where they built PROPER universities as early as the 1880s! Instead of you to demand an explanation from the British for their robbery, you're here playing happy slave. Mumu.
how many nigerians were qualified to be in a university then? hell, how many nigerians could read and write in the 50s?
