that is because those people are illiterates. if someone begs you for something and fails to return it - it is not a scam or 419. what platinumnk did to that car dealer is a scam cos they were in business. but what happened here is no scam at all. there's no dispute at all about the money owed - you just wanted to feel like a superstar(another victim of scam) hell, i can as well lend you 20 naira - ask you to pay back on saturday and come to nairaland at 12.01am saturday morning to say you have scammed me. grin

it's too early to judge pedro. . . .pedro is still a rookie but i won't be surprised if he goes on to become a great player in the future. you cannot just do any comparison between a rookie who has just 2 seasons in top flight football to raul who had almost 15 yrs of top flight footie.

did you see messi's goals against getafe 2007, madrid this year, arsenal this year. who scores solo goalslike messi? who assists like messi?  plus dont lie to yourself just to discredit messi,
many players have been scoring that type of goals before messi was born. van nistelrooy did it against fulham in 2003, cristiano did it against fulham in 2007. maradona did in 86, fat ronaldo did in 96, henry did in 2004 - abeg make we hear word.

While Arsene can be given credit for retaining the club in the top 4 with reduced expenditure from 2005-2010, it would be foolish to give him sole credit for the stadium - he didn't build it, he didn't negotiate the bank deals that ensured we got a low interest rate on a long term loan, neither did he negotiate the commercial deals that gave us upfront cash to be able to build the stadium. That credit should go to the previous board, Edelman and Danny Fizsman in particular.

He has been shrewd with transfers no doubt, but he's not responsible for the financial side of things.
thank you for the words of wisdom. . . . .but without you, mumuface would give the credits of the torrential rain in lagos to arsene wenger. i am yet so see anyone so deluded. wetin concern wenger with negotiating the bank deals that funded the emirates stadium? it was purely the board's decision to move ship. granted, wenger kept arsenal in the top four throughout this lean period and the stroke of genius here was that the decision is so timely it would have been near impossible to make such now with the moneybags like man city and spurs threatening to break into the top four.

mr coogar, without puyol and pique, i tell you xavi and iniesta too are 'trash'. raul gonzalez is still a greater player than xavi and iniesta but did he win the world cup? NO.
xavi and iniesta are greater than raul. xavi has been the top midfielder in the last 6 seasons. there was never a time raul has been the best striker in his entire career. xavi won the best player in euro 2008 - raul has never been any player of any tournament for spain in his entire career. without puyol/pique, xavi and iniesta are trash? which pique? xavi and iniesta had won champions league before pique moved to barcelona in 2008 summer.

does it also mean that pedro is greater than raul? cus the former won the world cup but not the latter. messi became famous in an argentine shirt not in a barca shirt. the world marvelled at his holland 2005 exploits. there he single handedly dismantled your father land without xavi and iniesta. leave this messi hating alone, it wont do you no good.
messi became famous in a barca shirt. he has been making waves in barcelona team b before his exploits in holland 2005. and that he single-handedly disgraced your fatherland is a bit pushing it. if scoring 2 penalties in a final is disgracing your fatherland then you value the country of your birth so cheaply. grin messi needs barcelona more than barcelona need him.

And that happened by chance? undecided
didn't involve planning and a restrategisation that affected the playing side of things?
stop talking like a pillock. . . . .it's a no brainer arsenal needed a bigger stadium. highbury was smaller than where united reserves play every tuesday and thursday. every big club in england had stadium expansion on their mind but england is so small these dreams are rarely achieved.

Stop thinking with your butt, its gross misuse of natural resources.  tongue When yu borrow money, does someone just give you the money? no interests to pay back? Up till last year when we cleared a great chunk of our debt, Arsenal was paying about 40m per annum on interest alone.
your intelligence keeps diminishing the older you grow. so borrowing and paying interest is now the ingenuity especially in england where 18 yr olds have mortgages and they know what interest rate is all about? you are a tool. what arsenal did was not discovering the cure of hiv-aids. they simply moved to a bigger stadium. the decision makers in the 90s were idiots borrowing wembley - travelling from north london everyday to the west is lethargic and the overheads(renting) was killing the club. every big club in england would have done what arsenal did. ordinary man city(before the arab invasion) moved to eastlands in 2002. . . . .west ham got their way to move to the olympic stadium after next year's olympics - i don't see how moving from highbury to the emirates translates to e=mc2

If it was so easy to build stadiums in the current economic climate, why the roforofo fight between the spuds and west ham over the olympic stadium?
where are Valencia and Juve who are also building stadiums at present in their respective leagues?
this is because london is so small a city that there's no wasteland to construct such a massive edifice. to actually credit wenger for moving to the emirates as if he used his salary to effect the move is outright lethargic in your reasoning.

Arsene has done well with what he's had to work with. When he came to the club, we weren't even in the top 3 in England in terms of turnover, both Newcastle and Liverpool were ahead of us and in terms of value (mostly determined by Equity, assets and the balance sheet) we were also nowhere near any of those 2. Even betweeen the last list in 2010 and now we've move up a place from 8th to 7th despite the media created impression of some sort of crisis.
When some people compare us to Manure, they are quick to forget where we are coming from, there is some sort of assumption that we've always been there at the top.

We however need to sort out this trophy thingie on the playing side, and then Arsenal can take its rightful place in the rank of elite clubs, we are already there in terms of financial stability and money but we need to show it on the playing side.
arsene has done nothing. the difference between arsenal of then and arsenal of now is the move from highbury(19,000 capacity) to the emirates(60,000 capacity) and wenger did not use his own money to build the stadium. he borrowed it from the dubai folks. the massive increase in revenue puts arsenal as the 2nd most watched team in england so it is always expected their stock would rise.

council of hammersmith won't let chelsea expand their stadium and it would be a disgrace for them to leave west london to go build elsewhere. liverpool are also stuck at anfield(they need a bigger stadium. . . .arsenal have done nothing apart from borrowing to build a stadium - the playing side is nothing to write home about since 2005 and i am yet to see a marquee player signed for almost 10 yrs now.

Maradona won the '86 world cup single-handedly but what are we gonna say about the contributions of:
Jorge Valdano - 4 goals and 1 assist.
Burruchaga - 2 goals and 2 assits, including the winner in the final.
Pasculli - Scored the only goal against the cantenacio playing Uruguay in the second round.
Maradona scored 5 goals and made 5 assits, wrecked England and all but are we gonna say others contributed nothing towards Argentina's '86 world cup success?
maradona scored 5 goals and 5 assists in 86 world cup. it means he directly contributed to 10 goals of the total 12 argentina scored at the world cup. and these contributions weren't just goals that were scored when the opponents had surrendered. majority were first goals, equalizers and winners. messi is far far off such an achievement. what maradona did for napoli alone is enough to put him as the greatest footballer ever. . . .whilst messi is happy to play alongside world class players, maradona was doing it for a lower side - he won the league with that side and won a cup in europe with them. this is akin to messi playing for real betis and winning la liga + europa cup with them.

Argentina scored 5 goals before they got k/o'd out the copa, three of the goals were made by Messi.
3/5 is not 10/12. besides, 3/5 got knocked out in the q/finals, 10/12 won the cup(in a much bigger stage). khakhi is not leather. maradona is 100000000 times greater than messi and i will be willing to say rummenigge, fat ronaldo, zidane, romario, baggio, owen have done more for their national sides than messi has done.

maybe we should start with. . . .how many defenders are available in the market? the top defenders are staying put in their old clubs and the mid-table defenders are frowned at by arsenal's own fans.

Hey i know, UEFA should allow Arsenal special dispensation to buy it's own players 1 week after the August deadline, that way we are the only bidding club. That should get us the kind of players we need. tongue

i beg your pardon. eboue is a super duper defender. he has not made any huge mistake in his 5+ seasons at arsenal apart from the (non-penalty incident) against liverpool at the emirates. lucas dived as soon as he felt the contact from eboue. simply put, eboue is a perfectionist. if he tackles and the referee blows for infringement, it's the referee's fault or the player's fault. eboue is always blameless. grin

The ISSUE IS, are these the kind of signings we need huh huh

If we start the season based on these kinds of signings can anyone honestly say hands on heart that we have a hope in hell of us winning the league huh

The whole situation at the club stinks to the high heavens, there is a sense of complacency that cuts across all we do. No one seems to want to do anything till Arsene has a say, contracts are being allowed to run down, under achieving players are offered new deals, signing not tracked properly (all we get nowadays is this line from Arsene when a player blossoms at another club; We were actually inline to sign so and so before he went to , fill the blanks) The appeal for even young players is now dying a slow death.

Arsene needs to hands off the reins of signings, just identifying who he wants and let Ivan handle it.

Knowing Arsene, THE BRAZILIAN/IVORIAN MIGHT BE THE ONLY MAJOR SIGNING OF THE SUMMER (Expect to hear quotes like; Nasri and Cesc are just like new signings)

Like i said, when other clubs are arguing on established players, we are busy talking about potential, wtf!!

Something need to change, we have a squad, where some key players wished they were somewhere else, those that go have the effrontery to say they are going because they want to win Trophies huh I mean the whole thing sounds like a big joke. I mean from wanting to go because they want the team to be more competitive (Paddy V) or wanting to go to win the CL (Titi) to wanting to go just top win a trophy.

I see Arsene churned out the; This is a Young Squad line in Asia to get us all prepared for the season.

I suggest we start to put out Arsene quotes we have heard for the past 6 years that he has started to churn out already;

"This Team has Mental Strength"
" We were closer to the top than everyone thinks/gives us credit for"

"I believe Cesc will stay/He loves the cclub"
"When we see/identify a player that will add quality to the squad we will go for him"

cool GOONER 89
did you not see gazidis saying arsenal cannot compete with their direct rivals? that's the submission y'all need to see - and their excuse not to splash big. arsenal must wait for the big boys to shop first. . . . the remnants/scraps leftover will then be pursued aggressively by arsenal. if those scraps get over-priced, arsenal will simply pocket their money and splash it on their board of directors whilst telling the fans there's power in the youth. grin cool

I understand greed is now an issue, but are only Arsenal targets greedy? huh

We apparently offered Phil Jones more money, yet he chose to sign elsewhere -  which is why I said there's always some reason for a deal failing to go through.

My point is, above a certain threshold, more money shouldn't change your mind about signing for a particular club, especially when you're just 19. The main reason it would cause the deal to be broken off is because the player wasn't really convinced about joining Arsenal in the first place.

If this is the case, why go ahead and agree a deal with the club when the slightest whiff of more cash would cause a change of heart? Someone somewhere should've seen this and  taken appropriate action - it's not like greedy players just came into existence two days ago.

I'm sure Gervinho could've signed a bigger deal elsewhere than coming to Arsenal, he came because he was convinced about signing with us.
gervinho is just contented with playing in the premier league. besides, there was hardly another english side interested in him. having seen the likes of drogba, kalou, mikel, essien, odemwingie, sessegon, gyan getting accolades in the previous season and splattering the front pages of top media houses, the excitement is huge for gervinho and i wish him well @ the emirates.

this nucca is extra-talented. some of the skills he showed at the last olympics in china were just out of this world. . . .i hope wenger does not dummy him by playing him in the defence!

one woulda thunk staying in england should have gone a long way to educate and expose you. . . .but you sound like someone still living in the depths of idanre hills. so what are you going to accuse rupert murdoch of now? his goons hacked arsene wenger's voicemails to see through his signings, tactics and formations then sold to ferguson and roman abramovic? when will you stop disgracing the likes of debosky, dr.kitaun and eldee on these pages?

C'mon mehn, why should I have to explain to a grown man the meaning of "tongue-in-cheek"?
that ain't tongue-in-cheek. . . .that's tongue in brain. . . . .

you have managed to compare a 20 yr old chris smalling to ferdinand(32), vidic(30), ashley cole(30), alex(29) and your conclusion was he's piss-poor when the % difference in pass completion isn't even up to 10%. let us compare josh mceachran's passing stats to xavi, scholes, denilson, etc as well, can we?

So whats your point? I said he is a great defender but his passing is too piss-poor to play midfield after Montelik suggested he could play DM.
you said he has never completed a pass to a team-mate. . . . .so the 78% pass completion is to who? old trafford fans?

Thats a 78% completion rate as compared to Vidic, Rio and Evra who all scored in the mid-to-high 80's. Second of all, Smalling does not pass to anyone other than his fellow defenders with no pressure on the ball unlike Vidic, Rio and other class defenders who step up into midfield with risque passes. The stats you have just provided prove my assertion that Smalling is a piss-poor passer.

You can compare that with 88.4% for John Terry, 93.1% for Alex, 82% for Ivanovic and 86% for Ashley Cole. Truly, Smalling is a "semi-professional" passer of the ball especially as he never makes any other pass except to the closest defender. . . or hoofs the ball out of play.

yes, let's compare a 20 yr old to vidic rio and evra who are seasoned professionals. let's compare him to terry, alex, ivanovic and ashley cole who are internationals for their respective countries. 78% pass completion rate is not piss-poor for a 20 yr old stepping up to the plate to play for the biggest club in the world. passing it is not the greatest attribute of a defender. . . .the tackles, the physicality and the reading of the game(positioning) is the key!

There's little Messi can do all by himself. Teams win tournaments. No individual can win a tournament on his own.
maradona did in 86, garrincha did in 62.

AjanleKoko:
I don't think anybody is saying Messi is the best player ever. Just the best player in this particular generation.
regarding the Copa America, well . . . How many Copa Americas did Maradona win? Zero. There's still time for Messi to win the World Cup.
maradona won the world cup. . . .messi has not won anything for argentina and he's 1/10th of the player he is when playing for argentina. goes to show without xavi and iniesta, leo messi is nothing. without messi, the duo have won european championship/ champions league(2006) and a world cup for spain. it seems messi actually needs barcelona than barcelona need messi.

According to Montelik: Smalling can adapt to defensive midfield.

Please don't do the abilities needed for midfield a disservice. Smalling is a semi-professional footballer with amazing physical superiority and good tackling and reading of the game, but he is the worst passer in the top two divisions (Premier League and Championship). I've been watching Smalling closely, and I don't think he has ever completed a pass to a team-mate in his career. Even at the Under 21s, all he does is hoof the ball upfront.

Smalling ko! Midfield ni! Wetin concern fish with raincoat?
oh shut your dirty traps. . .smalling is better than david luiz, alex, ivanovic and john terry cloned together. where do you get lethargic statistics from.
in 09/10, smalling completed 216 out of his 293 passes. in 10/11, he completed 369/470 passes. i guess the ones he completed were passed to ghosts and not his team-mates.

you just come here thinking you can feed us scraps you plucked out from the stratosphere - go to the chelsea thread where plonkers like you abound and leave chris smalling alone. in the just concluded under21, he was england's best player by a mile. in the games he's featured for united. . . .he has looked excellent next to world class defenders. he's only 21 and in 3 yrs, he will match what john terry has achieved in terry's entire career minus sleeping with wayne bridge's missus.

another tournament, another disappointing performance from leo messi.

--played against uruguay's 10 men for 48 mins with nothing to show for it.
--argentina were playing on their home soil
--uruguay are not even in the top 5 national teams in the world

is messi really the best player to have played the game having showed no bottle for his national team like his predecessors(fat ronaldo, zidane, rivaldo,
romario, maradona, klinsmann, cryuff, etc)?

Stop spreading lies, how can it be stealing when the laws of the UK allow him to sign players at 16?  undecided  besides the players can sign pre-contracts even before 17, hence the reason we were ordered to pay about 2.5m for Merida cos he never told Arsenal he had a pre-contract with Barca when we signed him up.
you are a tool! it's stealing and that was why you had to pay barcelona a compensation for stealing merida and fabregas after they dragged arsenal to court. wenger cajoled their parents to let the boys play in england through the backdoor. . . .without even letting their parent club know anything about the discussion - how isn't that stealing?

Besides, didn't Old red nose also sign Gerard Pique who you paid nothing for and later sold back to Barca for 5m and Paul Pogba using the same difference in laws between the UK and the continent that you call a loop hole?
Abi there is one law for Arsene and another for other managers?  undecided
yes, pique was signed from barcelona at 17 but the moment the young spaniard told sir alex he wanted to go back to his roots, he was allowed to go. cesc has been crying he wants to go back for 3 seasons but arsenal(being a rogue organization) have frustrated the move by using dirty underhand tactics!
