Not just the back 4 to be fair,The Arsenal midfield did a perfect job of screening the back 4 and crowding Silva away from the hole. I dont remember aguero getting a chance to isolate the defence at any stage. Just fantastic counter attack set up. Very impressed, hooe they don't keep that up. also, the excuse of not controlling the game till the end is just facade! if after 60mins the lads are weary, we have a Fellaini, a Wilson, a Mata, a Januzaj, a Carrick, a McNair who can come in & freshen up the area. if the fans around the world can protest (openly) about the formation & not criticize the players, then maybe the coaching crew should reset their philosophy

to be fair to LVG, his observation was spot on.
we really struggled to win games after the city defeat. we play well for 45-60 mins & the quality just dropped to near zero - allowing opponents to nick a goal and cause a scare. de gea was making 8 top saves per game. LVG knew he couldn't continue to ride his luck, so he tweaked the formation.

all the names you mentioned have had long lay offs due to niggling injuries. besides, even though we can agree that the footie was beautiful then, we were conceding far too many chances & that was what convinced LVG that we don't control games enough.

so he switched to a formation that gives us control throughout the entire 90 & not the one where we play extremely good for 60 mins & become shytë in the last 30. 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 is a possession formation but unfortunately, we don't create enough with the heap of possession we have.

too many passengers in the team - they are too afraid to take risks so they pass it sideways & backwards for the fear of losing the ball. my problem isn't the formation, my problem is with the players who can't pass & move into space to receive the pass.
