SailorXY: My argument is there are so many average lads in this Man Utd team, it is becoming pathetic. Guys like Young or Flether or Giggs (of today) or Carrick to some extent, etc will hardly get a place in United's team of 98-04 or 07-09. This doesn't mean they are not good players, their kind was still in the teams but as reliable squad players {O'Shea, Brown, etc}. That implies the standard is falling badly...if Giggs aged 63 still get games [even if its one minutecarrick won't get into the team in 07-09? he was the reason we were successful in those years. the arrival of carrick brought us success! |
denzel2009: Tonto Dikeh would have done a better job tbh. Anyway, they should release on time so that we can watch it on youtube.or irokotv! |
CFCfan: Mercy Aigbe is one of the best Yoruba actresses, and also amongst the best in Africa. Tonto Dikeh is already a legend in Nollywood.mercy what? mercy who? |
freecocoa: I'm yet to figure out what you have against feminists, are you from the olden days?my name's noah - |
adaobi123: I have read the booki doubt it....if it's true, what's ugwu's greatest desire? ![]() shymexx: @Coogargrowing list.... |
shymexx: Nah, they're from Lambeth.andy mcnab is from peckham too.....same as ferdinand brothers! peckham is repping seriously... adaobi123: Hmmmmmm....at the end of the day as long as I dont waste my £6/7, I'm okayread the book first before watching the movie.... shymexx: @Coogarhehe - peckham is taking over!!!! |
CFCfan: Tonto Dikeh and Mercy Aigbe are slightly better than Thandie Newton.i saw what you did there... shymexx: These people need to start paying homage to Peckham... Pecknizzy!!!isn't JJC from that end too? |
shymexx: You know John Boyega the young Denzel is from peckham, right?i saw attack the block eons ago - he killed it! peckham produces more talents than any UK postcode. it's the equivalent of ajegunle for that alone. ![]() |
freecocoa: She was planning an e-wedding already.she's a feminist - perhaps she's trying to be the first nigerian woman to practise polyandry. if i marry someone like bukatyne, i would beat feminism out of her belly! |
shymexx: Don't be surprised when they start saying some of the people there don't look Nigerian...thandie looks like an affluent calabar woman. chiwetel can pass for an abia state man. boyega had the peckham swag in the trailer - he's definitely got the aura of davido. who else?? ![]() |
shymexx: Lmao at the bolded!i didn't even see that comment when i wrote that - it just goes to show the mentality of an average nigerian - we are a very difficult people to satisfy. Afam4eva: I complained about "tears of the Sun" and a lot of people that i know did even though the movie wasn't really big in Nigeria even though being about Nigeria. There's no movie that produced on the surface of the earth that will not be critiqued. People will critique movies based on what they know and how they felt those movies should have been done. Of course a movie about Nnewi may be look alright to Enugu people but NNewi people themselves may see a flaw in it because they're Nnewi people and they know Nnewi more than everybody else. That's what it is. At the end of the day, you can't please everyone. The producers of the movie just have to do what they can and leave the rest.people generally complain about the message of the movie about the people or the way the producer/director make the audience perceive the people living where the movie is set. accent was the last thing on my mind when watching stories set in africa...... |
Afam4eva: I liked Sophie in Hotel Rwanda but the bolded is wrong. There's no American movie set in Africa that has been made that people from that country did not complain. The world world thought Don Cheadle and Sophie Okonedo killed it but Rwandans thought otherwise cos they know their accent better than anyone else.did nigerians complain with tears of the sun? did somalians complain when black hawk down was made? nigerians complain too much.....if imo actors were used, anambra people would complain. if nnewi actors were used, awka people would complain. hell, if the first daughter in a house won the role, the last born would shout discrimination. shymexx: It's business and the people who put their money down want something back in return. It's not for charity.but john boyega hasn't starred in a james bond movie but he got a very prominent role in this movie. |
shymexx: I know - but she had other commitments. However, is there any other naija actress on Thandie's level in Hollywood? Bear in mind that people sponsored the movie and they're looking to make profits as well - hence why they went for the big names.i made mention of this earlier. the nigerians complaining will not even go to the cinemas and watch neither will they buy the original copies in DVD. Sophie isn't Tutsi but Rwandans never complained about her role in Hotel Rwanda.tayo eleshin is another good british-nigerian actress & oyinka yussuf isn't far behind.... |
freecocoa: Loli didn't see it, what did she write?? |
shymexx: African accent, Nigerian accent, Igbo accent blah blah.sophie okonedo is a very good actress - she killed it in hotel rwanda! |
manny4life: Well, that's not what I deducted from her, she NEVER wanted them to speak in Igbo accents, but at least try and speak the Nigerian accent. If you're still persistent on the Igbo thingy, well to each their own...ok wait... robin hood movie, russell crowe spoke in british accent and got hammered because his accent wasn't even close to the core nottinghamshire accent - even though he spoke like britons generally do. if our lady here is mad about the cast in this movie, then it must be because they did not speak like igbos do. just like nottingham is a subset of england, igbo is a subset of nigeria. can you now see the perfect analogy and why a quantitative analyst like me can spot the flaw? You're seriously very funny, did language fall from the sky? Aren't there people who are Africans, Europeans, Asians, etc who created their "LANGUAGE"? I don't get your logic sometimes, Asians, Europeans, Africans, Caribbeans, Middle easterners, etc have their own accent. Language like in Nigeria, we speak English (universal language), but the way I speak my own English is not the same way a Ghanian will speak the same English. So no, language is totally different from accent, you don't need language to speak an accent.does every language not have it's own accent? For instance I'm trying to learn Spanish, when I'm done, my Spanish accent will be way different from the Hispanics. Even in the Hispanic race, the Puerto Ricans speak differently from Mexicans, YET, it's the same Spanish language but with different accents to it.you are now making my point. in what accent could this people have spoken so as not to get criticised like russell crowe did in robin hood? there's no in-between - its an igbo story and so only the igbo accent can cut the cheese for a purist like some-girl! Coogar, ahh... I know you can argue. Though wrong to you, you suppose understand what she's talking about. Anyway sha, me sef I'm done with this argument because accent or not, this movie is absolutely awesome for a trivial issue like accent to ruin it.some-girl disagrees with you.....the movie isn't great as far as she's concerned cos the cast did not do their homework by speaking like chiwetalu agu or nkem owoh! |
freecocoa: Why is marriage being discussed on this thread? I'm confused.bukatyne? a mother of 6 boys? you want her husband to beat me up? freecocoa, mind yourself o! |
datChelseaBoy: I think Demba Ba should be sold. He is surplus to requirements at Chelsea.you could get crucified on this thread for the above blasphemy. demba ba? the messiah? everyone minus nateevs and jackbauerballs believe demba ba would break messi's record of 70+ goals next season. |
manny4life: Haba, you never give up.. Btw, Robin Hood was a good movie. That it's an Igbo story doesn't mean she wanted the cast to be Igbo, all she was saying like you reiterated robin hood and Russell crowe, the both of them could have at least tried to portray a Nigerian accent.i never said she wanted them to be igbo but she wanted them to speak the igbo accent as the story was set in igbo. As for "African Accent", I don't know about you, but African have their own accent. Ghanians speak totally different from Nigerians, and Sierra Leone speak differently from Cameroonians. Even me sef can identify who a Ghanian and Cameroonian is from their accent.is there a language called "african"? if there's none then how can you have an african accent? I believe her argument was simply that they just tried to speak anything African as supposed to something Nigerian.if that's what she meant then she did a horrible job getting her message across. she didn't need the "robin hood" example then as it's the wrong analogy. |
Help somebody! Anybody!
never mind.... your point, whether somali or algerian accent, is a moot point. the target audience cannot tell us apart. half of america think africa is a country so it's no biggie. the people who would know the difference are nigerians and majority of them would buy the pirated copy of the movie..... |
manny4life: Bros, I think you misunderstood her..then she's confused.... robin hood was about a bandit in nottingham and she cited the example of russell crowe getting hammered for not speaking in their accent. half of the yellow sun is an igbo story - it then implies she had a problem with their accent because the actors couldn't speak in igbo accent. there's nothing called african accent.... |
Manufacturing information is a major reason people fail comprehension tests. You are the one who just suggested that the accents should be Igbo. Read my post again.... take your time this time.
i don't need to read your post a second time unless you don't even have a grasp of what you wrote. you want the actors to speak with the correct accent which is igbo. you cited the case of mel gibson and russell crowe getting criticised because they couldn't cut it with the scottish or the nottinghamshire accent. what else could you have meant? |
what part of my post suggested that I had a problem with the actors and their accents not being "Igbo"??
if the story is about biafra, in what accent would you expect them to speak? hausa or wollof? |
I have a major problem with the accents. Good actors should learn accents and should be convincing. Non Africans like to believe we all speak the same, sound alike and look alike. Makes life easy for them especially foreign directors of African movies. These same people would get offended when their accents are faked incorrectly. Mel Gibson's and Russell Crowe's attempts at Scottish and Nottinghamshire accents respectively were criticized, although theirs were errors that would go unnoticed by those who aren't familiar with the accents. Thandie and Noni Rose didn't even make any attempt to sound Nigerian. They seemed to have decided that any accent they could manage that sounded remotely African would suffice.
the target audience won't know the difference and that's the most important thing. who cares if the accent is not igbotic? how would the investment generate profit if nonso diobi and chioma chukwuka were the main actors all because you want to preserve the igbo accent?? |
jackbauersballs: That Houseboy played Moses in 'The Block'moses' name is john boyega - he has a rude face.....very talented young actor.....
we are talking about a reasonable movie here and u are mentioning Nkiru Sylvanus? Wetin u smoke? Pls lets get serious. The trailer is good, lets just pray it doesn't get snubbed @d Oscars 2014 for best foreign film @least even if it's just a nomination. The cast and crew did a good job. Lest I forget, could it be that Genevieve Nnaji's scenes were trully cut off?
as usual, the sarcasm laced in my comment flew over your head. you are a typical nigerian!!! |
bukatyne: But if there is to be a divorce in future, you would say she has no claim to her hubby's money.divorce in the west is 50-50.......this man and his wife have no kids. she had an excuse to leave when the man was locked up for 14 years..... Charity begins at home from the husband. I was just trying to point out that a husband is a leader called to serve in him home and the Uruguay's president is just a type of who a husband should be in the home. I am also sure that Uruguay did nothing (apart from vote him into power) to 'deserve' a good president but he had made up his mind on the type of president to be before contesting. A man is also to decide the kind of husband he wants to be before thinking of getting married.he is able to become this kind of president because the wife allowed it. if he's got a wife that loves to floss lavishly on frivolities, would he be diverting 90% of his monthly income to charity causes? think!!!! it's one thing to decide to become a type of leader, it's another thing for one's significant other to create an enabling environment that allows it. I wouldn't give the credit to the wife alone; I strongly believe the husband demonstrated same in his home that's why the wife can lovingly support him in the first place.maybe, but she deserves some credits! if patience goodluck was like her, jonathan would be in a remote village in bayelsa trapping fishes. |
i am disappointed nkiru sylvanus was not included in the cast. |
bukatyne: You do not still get my analogyyour analogy is top drawer but the concept just cannot work all the time in nigeria..... Going by your logic, charity begins at home. this man must have a good wife at home for starters and it's the only reason he can extend his goodwill to his people. majority of the nigerian leaders are frustrated in their homes - and this is why they often behave badly in public...... the credits shouldn't go to uruguay, the credits belong to his loving wife. if he had married #cough cough# patience jonathan(the woman that shut down an entire axis of a city for 11 days while visiting), there's no way in hell he would be donating 90% of his salary to charity causes. |
Mavrick2012: Thanks @efemena,sory,i realy dnt think i need all those.tankswhy not consult okija-juju - he's a member of this forum and a very potent chief priest. he has single-handedly caught 1,457 philandering partners in nigeria. his fee is less than $30 and i can assure you uncle amos would soon be caught stuck inside your wife(if your wife is cheating). |
Errrr, you might want to reconsider your Cesc is never fit line.
this is his injury history.....
|
bukatyne: Really? I am comparing by country, I am comparing by personality...to be a good husband, one needs a good wife. the president's wife must be very good to have allowed her husband move into her farmhouse. besides, the husband spent 14 years in a military prison, he was shot 6 times by the police, the woman remained with him in those difficult years - the average nigerian wife would have fled. |
