dayokanu: @Ileoba

Have you considered that EVERY HUMAN man or woman every decision we make is as a result of the enviroment, the culture, the religion that shapes what we like or dont like?

if a human was born in the forest and raised by animals he would also think there is no need for marriage to be attached to any individual just cop an errection and shagg anyone including your parents like animals do

So women who grew up in Monogamous society majority would tend Monogamy, Those who grew up in Polygamy would tend to not find anything bad with Polygamy
ileoba is lost!
CNN has messed with her psyche. she thinks every woman in the world buys into the western civilisation bullcrap! women in amazon forest think hilary clinton is crazy for wearing clothes.....

ileobatojo: I would be practicing Islam and polygamy. Your point? What has that got to do with the question I asked?
my point is your environment would influence what sort of religion and what type of marriage you would have. all those afghan women under taliban do not know any other form of marriage asides polygamy - how would they ever choose monogamy?

You know this because? You speak for all women in the world?
because i have seen the common denominator in about 4 continents i have visited. every woman is governed by
his immediate environment, culture and religion. if you were born in baghdad, you would have been the 6th wife of a sheikh at the age of 11 with all happiness & glee!

Once again, the above proves you do not comprehend my question. Please have a seat and let the people who do answer.
i fully comprehend your question!
the answer would vary - in the part of the world we are, nearly all the women would choose monogamy - in some obscure part of the world where polygamy is very common, the statistics would provide different data.

ileobatojo: And where did I say I don't want to accept the women who choose it because of their religion?
your post reeks of it!
you said women who do it because of their religion do not count for you.....whereas religion plays the biggest role in marriage. if you were born in baghdad to muslim parents, what would you be practising today? christianity?

As to your first paragraph, please focus on my actual question, not on the strawman you are trying to build around it. Put monogamy and polygamy side by side. Ask which one a woman is naturally inclined to pick (based on her human nature, self desire etc). Analyze results.
it would be 50-50!
a woman raised in iran would choose polygamy and the woman raised in manchester would choose monogamy. we are all products of our environment - our choices in life are influenced by our parents/religion/culture........
You clearly didn't read that article else you wouldn't have directed me there.
i digested the main facts and left out the opinion of a defeatist journalist!! even when she was told the wives are very happy, she still manages to paint the story in such a way that the women were suffering. i believe the quotes of the women interviewed are more credible than the opinion of the writer who is prejudiced even before she stepped her foot in their houses.....

in a nutshell, what you emboldened is irrelevant!

I saw that documentary on TV years ago. The first wife of one of the interviewed families, who initially didn't want to partake in the documentary, did confess to feeling resentment and bitterness toward her husband for taking other wives.

Mormon women just like muslim women have had to accept (the possibility of) polygamy. It doesn't mean they are happy with it.
I have a muslim friend whose mother has threatened to cut off from any of her sons who takes more than one wife, having been in a polygamous marriage herself. On the outside, all the wives and children appear to be happy.
but these women are happy - do you know more than them? out of the 5 wives interviewed from 2 polygamous settings, only one of them who happens to be 63 years spoke with bitterness. the other 4 were quote happy with their marriage!

the mother of your muslim friend cannot speak for all the polygamous marriages in the world. you shouldn't be bringing such examples to a debate. it defeats the point. when the mother of your muslim friend travels round the globe particularly to developed islamic states, her views would change totally!

You still haven't provided me with reasons why a polygamous family would be "happy" and why a woman would be "happy" sharing her husband, his time and resources with another woman (and her children)
there are plenty of reasons a polygamous family would be happy and there are plenty of reasons a woman would willingly share her husband with another.

open your local newspaper for a start and see the amount of swingers party that goes around in your neighbourhood - there are placed ads by married couples seeking a woman/man to complete a ménage a troîs.

this is the 21st century - stop viewing the world with the eyes of an aztec/mayans!

dademola: u obviously didnt read my post well. For d 2nd time, i used "depend" on. Did spain "depend on" torres?? D torress u're even talking about, can his scoring record for spain be compared to welbeck's scoring record for england??d writer of dt article cld av even butressed his point by talking about welbeck's poor goalscoring record for england too, so as to further cast doubts on england's chances at d mundial. didnt spain even appear to disregard der striking department as a whole??hw many teams in d world can do dt?? Maybe u shud read my post again.
i really don't get this argument of yours....
welbeck isn't even first choice in england, rooney is! i don't remember any tournament england went in recent times and had to depend on welbeck. unless you are saying rooney isn't good enough then your whole argument is ridden with flaws.
We love to generalize in this part of the world.
I have seen first hand a truly happy polygamous home.
When I mean happy I mean happier than most monogamous homes I've seen.
The two Women are best friends.
The kids attend the same schools and if you are not told, u'll never ever know. Even if you are close to them.
Happiness is a state of mind. Not a scenario.
I'm talking about my girlfriends family here. Her father is a wealthy man and caters for both women adequately.
Both Women attend functions together, cook together. Although the man married a second wife due to delayed childbirth.
My Girlfriend is closer to her 'Big mom' who happens to be her stepmom, than her own mother and this I've seen myself because her big mom calls her more than her own mother and I'm still surprised. She was raised by her big mom while her mom was in another city working. And she said she loves that woman with all her heart.
Conversely, big moms own daughter which she eventually had, is closer to my gf's own mom than hers. grin
Funny but sweet family. grin
So all these talks on unhappy polygamous Families are bullsh..it. What works for some, might not work for...
i know few families like that too.....

I saw dis comparism coming.if u read my post well, i used d phrase "depend on".d spanish team is knwn to rely so much on a midfield dt consist of atleast 5 of d best players in d world(frm d defensive aspect to d attacking side of mf). Or do u want me to start reeling off names?? Do i even need to?? No be mickey mouse players like cleverley and wilshere dey dt midfield oo. Abi u don 4gt ni?? To be honest with ourselves, isnt it common knowledge, dt even if del bosque himself plays as spain's no 9, d team wld still be a force to reckon with??..or hav u forgotton dt it was still dis spanish team dt deployed fabregas as a lone striker, depite having d likes of negredo and lorrente on d bench(these guys didnt hav d abysmal record of 2 goals in 38 games oo). Hw many teams can try it??
you have defeated your own points - you asked me to name a team that depends on a striker with low scoring rate. i gave you spain, they used only torres as a striker in that tournament and torres' season ended with him scoring 6 league goals in 32 games as a chelsea striker....

ileobatojo: Did you read her reason for going into a polygamous marriage? It's because she believes doing so will make her a god/goddess in the next life. She settled for it because she put her religion above her own personal/humanly desires. It's not contrary to my question.

I'm asking for women who want polygamy without any other external influence like religion, desperation, poverty, hunger, culture etc. No settling for it. They just want it more than monogamy.
there's no decision in life that isn't influenced by external factors. the reason you are in a monogamous marriage is because of your religion/idealism, culture, environment and other stuff. the reason anyone would be in polygamy would also revolve around the same factors.

as long as a woman isn't forced into such marriages like northern nigerian, then you have found your answer. you don't want to accept women who willingly enter into a polygamous marriage because of their religion and yet you are in a monogamous setting because of your religion - i smell catfish!!
Can you provide me with a reason why a polygamous home would be "happy"? and why a woman would be "happy" to share her husband with another wife? Perhaps I'm missing something. I fail to understand what's in it for her....
lift your head up and look beyond nigeria for heaven's sake. there are millions of women who are happy entering into a polygamous marriage and they are happy with what they have got!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1057865/Polygamy-uncovered-Whats-really-like-women-share-husband.html

Family › Re: Is There A Happy Polygamous Home? by coogar:
Acceptance is not an indication of happiness with a situation.

Women love undivided attention from men they like even a little bit. Unless a man's touch makes his wife's skin crawl, it would be IMPOSSIBLE for her to be happy (even okay) with having to share him with anyone/ thing.
you are a traditionalist!
in this day and age when women now bring a fellow woman along to sleep wïth her husband in a ménage a troîs? undivided attention ko, unmultiplied attention ni. until you people stop viewing the world with your nigerian eyes, you would never see the light!

ileobatojo: Your example is a good case for going into polygamy due to religious shackles. She said in the end, her religious convictions won, she was raised in that religion and she did it purely for her religion not because that is her primary desire for married life. She basically sacrificed her own desires for her religion... Next!
which shackles?
she wasn't forced into it. she said she could have had a monogamous marriage if she wanted but she still settled for a polygamous one. that's contrary to what your question asked....this woman had 300% say in the choice she made!
Family › Re: Is There A Happy Polygamous Home? by coogar: 12:40am On Jun 14, 2013
ileobatojo: I was not referring to women who had no say in the matter and were forced by religious and cultural shackles to be in polygamous marriages.

I'm talking about now. If you say there are sane women who desire to share their husbands as their number 1 marital preference, I want to hear from them. Let them come and tell us their story themselves.

ileobatojo: Abeg Osisi, sorry for derailing your thread jare.

Back to topic, please I want to know, is there any sane woman who desires polygamy? Is there anyone out there who it is their first choice? Is it any woman's best case scenario? Can a woman be in a polygamous marriage without feeling that she is managing/making the most of the situation?

If you are a woman and you desire polygamy, can you share with us what your primary mental condition is called? grin
there are sane women with the desire to share their husbands with other women. what we would accept/decline depends on the culture/religion we grew with. if you were born in the 17th century in Ibadan, you wouldn't think women who want polygamy are insane....

honey86: Were you from a polygamous home?. If you are not, then you know nothing about it.
i don't have to be from one to know what obtains in a polygamous setting. i know close family friends from the same setting and i am telling you not everyone of them is filled with strife!

My dad married 2 wives and unfortunately my mum is the second. I said unfortunately because I know the kind of issues we've had over the years. From trying to kill my siblings and I, calling my mum a witch and even till this day they are still plotting on how to send my mum packing. your point about money is far from it. I'm from a rich home with a lot of money to go around but there is still strife and hatred. Polygamy is no fun, eni to kan Lo mo.
marrying 2 wives is more problematic than marrying 6. one party would always feel unloved and the human behaviour towards situations that make them feel like they are suffering alone can be aggressive.

when you discover there's light everywhere on your street but your own house, you become restless - why me? however, when there's no light for everyone for months, you are more comfy because you know you are not the only one suffering....

that's the difference between marrying 2 wives and marrying 8 wives. solomon would have been more comfortable with his 300 wives than a man that married 2 wives. that's the way human perception is wired! general suffering is accepted - lone suffering isn't!
