Basic rules of momentum and momentum changes in physics here for anyone to check.

Momentum will always be conserved in a collision.

One question answered on that page is:

A: FALSE - In any collision, the colliding objects exert equal and opposite forces upon each other as the result of the collision interaction. There are no exceptions to this rule.

I think this proves my case. Enough of shouting; more of physics!
Nature wanted momentum conserved and of course naturally dented the Honda to enable momentum conservation.

My argument is only that it had more to do with the material the Benz is made up of, and you just confirmed this, that the Benz is considerably weightier than the Honda. Proceeding from here, we can see why the Honda got dented.

Benz would move of course. That's because this is not a purely elastic collision. It can't be an elastic collision. In spite of that, the most of the energy involved in the collision didn't translate into full motion of the Honda. If the Honda subsequently moved at the speed at which the Benz hit it, then it wouldn't have got dented.

Sibrah: Olodo . . . its all about the strength of the materials comprising the two systems - Honda and Mercedes Benz. If a stationary wooden object gets rammed into by a another object covered in a malleable substance like soap or candle wax, do u think the wood will get damaged/deformed more at the expense of the wood? The wood may bounce back and change position based on the momentum(high Mass or high velocity) of the maleable object because action and reaction are equal and opp but will hardly get damaged. It is a purely a Strength of Material thing.

Assuming no energy lost, Benz should become stationary and Honda should move at v1=50m/s, well that's if it could move. Point is, the material it's made of absorbed most of the energy and prevented motion.

sauer: No, nothing stops the collision from "causing extensive damage" to the moving object. The vibration resulting from that cash should naturally also affect the moving car. Think about this for a minute, a car crashes into a solid, immovable wall. The vibrations resulting from that crash will all be reflected back into the car and will dent it.
The reason is cos the wall is totally reflective, mainly because of the material it's made of.

If the wall were made of a different material, could move and is not totally reflective. What gets dented (car or wall) is now totally dependent on material.

sauer: Am not so sure about this. Theoretically, this would be an elastic collision where mass and energy will be conserved, even though we know there'll still be some loss to environment.


Because one body was stationary, it had zero velocity; it'll be set in motion by the other body of roughly equal mass. The theory says nothing about the stationary body getting more damaged than the moving body. Apparently, its potential energy was insufficient to take the full force of the moving Mercedes. As a result, it had to give way.

As the S.U. (Scripture Union) president in the university, I had almost anything I wanted, including the girls, (don’t let your mind drift any further, I didn’t do any bad things).

I was very choosy with the kinds of ladies I had around me, because I knew the kind of partner I wanted to end up with.

Growing up I had always wanted to keep myself until my wedding night and of course planned to get married to a virgin like myself.

I met “my wife” in school; she was the choir coordinator and as the S.U. president, we met at times for meetings and one thing led to the other and we fell in love.

One of the times we discussed, she got to know my stance on getting married to a virgin, and I was more than delighted when she also said she always wanted to get married to a virgin, and I concluded that she was a virgin.

After a while we, got our parents involved and marriage was set.

On the night of the 8th of March, after the whole ceremony, we were finally by ourselves, and “that time” came, lo and behold I found out that “my wife” wasn’t a virgin! God!

I couldn’t sleep that night, and kept wondering if she lied that she was a virgin just to be with me or she actually didn’t say she was a virgin, she only said she also wanted to get married to a virgin.

At this point I am in a confused state, because I married her because I thought she was a virgin, now that I have discovered that she is not what should I do?

Should I go ahead and divorce my wife?
