dayokanu: Like I said your defective thought process is the problem.
your thought process is slower than the revolution of the earth - it's like there's a time delay of t-24hrs in your brain. you would only understand this point same time tomorrow!

3m and 5million wont achieve the same thing one would achieve more than the other. 3m would pt your kids in average private schools, 5million would up the ante and put them somewhere better. This is not rocket science
must you argue like a lunatic?
while your wife is working full time and earning N3m, won't she pay the hands doing the childcare for her? transport to work? etc? are you this foolish? unless you equate what a regular ekaette would offer as proper child care to your wife's then a difference of 2 million will not do nada. i'd rather my wife does the upbringing herself !

A flat in Ojuelegba is 500k per yr, the flat in Gbagada is 800k per yr tell me there wont be a diff? The flat in magodo is 1m a yr, the flat in ikoyi is 1.6m a yr Even an idiott knows theres a difference
how can a flat in ikoyi equals 1.5 million - which ikoyi are you talking about? it must be the one in ogbomosho! a flat in ikoyi will not cost less than 10m per annum. so tell me how your wife's 2 million would bridge the gap, you odious swine?

The standard of life definitely increases with increase in household income I wonder why this leprechaun is arguing otherwise. Theres a limit to what the husband can earn and in most cases the wifes supplemental income improv3es their lifestyle
the quality of life does not improve from a mediocre to high standard based on the salary of one's wife. that's just a big lie. from N0.5m to N10m house rent difference is not equal to your wife's salary. tell another lie!

dayokanu: I have told you all from the beginning his arguments make no sense at all Imagine that part you quoted. Would you expect that from a sensible poster but since we are dealing in delusions we can assume every Nigerian bachelor is worth 100m and paying 1m per semester school fees shouldnt be a big deal
no one is saying every nigerian bachelor is worth a trillion. you foolishly argued its only when the 2 parents are working that they would be able to afford the opulent lifestyle in ikoyi and raise the kids to a sterling quality and i countered that with......."bachelors/couples who earn low salaries and want to stay in ikoyi should not bother having kids".

however, if they insist on having one, they should resign their fate they cannot raise their kids to a high-quality - why are you this dense? i think there's a universe of difference in what we consider as "high quality".

ileobatojo: I love how quickly we have gone from this, based on quantity of time spent alone!

To this!
Freaking hilarious!
yes - no wonder the society has degenerated to what it is because of selfish parents. they abandon kids in the hands of relatives who take turns to abuse those kids in ways we cannot mention here whilst husband/wife are busy showing their payslips to everyone that they are soon-to-be bill gates! i cannot believe i am arguing with supposed mothers who should understand the importance of proper childcare!

damiso: I see your points but you are now deviating a lil. Having all the money does not equate good parenting.
of course - one of the parents must put in quality shifts to ensure the proper upbringing as opposed to the working couples who would rather spend 25 mins with their kids till the kids choose their own parents from the streets. there's no difference between kids whose parents are rarely home and kids whose parents are both in prison/dead!
Okayyyyyy....
Now kindly explain to me why Paris Hilton is the way she is?
I mean, afterall money is not an issue for her parents, yet she's a renowned celebrity for her what? Partying ways? Empty head?
the money paris hilton inherited from her grandparents has given her the celebrity status from birth - what has she gotta do with our debate? in case you have lost sight of the ball - the topic says nigerian housewives!

And the Obama's, Alan Sugars, etc that come from humble backgrounds ought not to have been born too, abi?
you are deviating - the humble beginnings of alan sugar/obama is equivalent to the top 5% of the rich people in nigeria. i am sure they were not as poor as spending $2 per day, were they?
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 7:59pm On Jan 29, 2013
Then in that case, only the middle classes and upper classes are entitled to have kids.

Cleaners, drivers, carers, and other sorts of low paid staff should be sterilized, because they'll never have enough income to pay their bills let alone look after their kids, abi?
exactly!
not everyone can afford to raise kids to the required standard!
recently it was estimated the cost of raising a child is £220,000 in the uk - you think say raising kids is beans? people who cannot raise them well should leave the business of procreation for those who can. if sending my children to £30,000 per term school would involve me taking loans from sisikill and ileobatojo every year then i am not qualified to have a child - it's as simple as that!

dayokanu: You see the delusion I am talking about?
Every Nigerian bachelor who cant afford 1m per term, Live in Ikoyi , Afford summer vacation etc shouldnt have kids
look at this odious tool - i am using your argument to destroy you.
earlier, you stated allowing your wife to work opens the doors for lekki/ikoyi residence, top schools and blah blah blah and i countered back that the difference between ojuelegba flat and a lekki mansion can never equate to your wife's salary.....therefore, a bachelor whose salary cannot afford lekki house should resign his fate that he cannot raise his kids to a standard quality! what's so ambiguous about that?

Nigerian guys that earn above 3m per annum are less than 5% of the single guys population
So the other 95% shouldnt have kids and family
don't be silly......of course they can have families but they should not dream of putting those kids in british-american schools in ikoyi or dream of summer vacations every quarter of the year - like you claimed that working couples would automatically have .

You see the delusion and idioticc arguments we have been engaging in since morning
A Man earns 3m per annum his wife earns 2m per annum only a morron would argue 5m household income wont go further than 3m
it will not if you are sensible enough and you put proper child care into consideration. first n foremost, you need a trusted professional hand to take care of those kids while you workaholics are having the time of your lives. how much would that professional cost you?
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 7:52pm On Jan 29, 2013
dayokanu: Its outright delusion to think you currently have the best thing your kids can afford. Unless you are Dangote or Adenuga an average Nigerian working bachelor barely has enough to live in Ikoyi, Send kids to top schools where they pay over 1m per semester, Provide excellent meals and summer vacations
it's people like yourself who wasted their adolescent years chasing shadows that find such tasks daunting! which comes first - your savings or the child we are talking about? if your savings cannot afford N1m per term fees, don't have a child - it's that simple.......you are putting the cart before the horse with your missive! the difference between sending your kid to a top school and a mediocre school cannot be the salary of my wife - only a complete twät would opine such!
*Scratching head*
Did Coogar forget what side of the debate he is arguing for?! cheesy cheesy
I coulda sworn twas on the side of being at home more = makes better momma & Better Childrenses
i did not forget.....

less quantity + more quality = quality upbringing
more quantity + more quality = super-quality upbringing.

you have to put in the shifts of staying with them for hours and ensuring those hours are also quality as well.
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 7:47pm On Jan 29, 2013
ileobatojo: Thank you o! Wasn't the newtown mass shooter's mom a stay at home mom? So should I now conclude that stay at home moms are raising baby killing mass murderers?

The staying at home/working mom does not tell the full story when it comes to how the child turns out!
i hate it when people bring out ridiculous instances such as this one to score yeye brownie points. it's not only the quantity of time spent with the kids that matters but the quality as well. if a stay at home mum abandons her kids whilst doing her own frivolities then what's the point in staying at home? argue objectively, abeg - you are not a child!
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 7:42pm On Jan 29, 2013
dayokanu: The mortgage might be the same but with another person pitching in theres more disposable income for the family to improve their standard of life, to improve their diet, to improve the neighbourhood they live in so their kids wont grow up among miscreants, so their kids would have access to good schools which cost money
not at the expense of the welfare of my children!
my standard of living is already top drawer before meeting my wife - i do not need her stipend to pay my bills. i work very hard, i get promoted every couple of years - the decision to stay or not stay at home is a luxury my wife has. she gets to choose whichever one suits her.
This common sense. The more time you have for your kid the better!!! Like most things in life, there's no assurance that all kids with proper parental care will turn out great! However, your job is to care for them, regardless! You brought them into the world. They are not cats. They are entitled to maximum care. They shouldn't be a second priority!

While you're working 70 hrs a week to "provide" for the kid, you miss her first dance presentation at school, ekaette will be the first to hear her utter her first word, you hardly know her teachers at school and so on.

What's the point of the "money" you're making?!

If parents don't have the adequate resources to cater for their kids, they should zip their pants. .
thank you!
dayokanu actually thinks having böners is the only criterion a man needs to start his family.

dayokanu: Its not exactly rocket science that household expenses are easier to manage when two people work instead of one person
that's bollocks!
your mortgage is the same whether you stay there alone or you have 3 wives living with you. most bills are also flat rates - billed every quarter so what's the big deal?

And Its actually the Western world that emphasizes working mothers rather than the Nigerian society that raises males to be lazy
working mothers in the context of sex equality not when kids are involved so stop mixing apples and oranges.
Likewise, pre-marriage, she too would pay off those bills. That is, if she's even been brought up to live independently and pay her own way through life.
pre-marriage? how many nigerian women were independent before marriage? more than 90% were living off their parents before marriage. they rarely paid their bills before marriage!
But that's Coogar's school of thought! He's stated very clearly that when he gets married, his wife would have to stop work to look after the kids as he would be foot ALL of the bills ALONE.
Abi even you sef nor understand your own man?? cheesy cheesy
don't misappropriate the facts.....
i clearly stated "when kids are involved". why would an educated married woman just stop working when she has no kids to raise? must you distort my comments to score cheap brownie points?

dayokanu: Of all the expenses above only one relates to a child
Whether procreation or not he would still have to pay

" bills for PHCN, LAWMA, Security, Water and Sanitation. Iya Agba too phoned that she needs money for that medicine we promised her last month. Mama Kemi brought the Ankara material for her father’s burial. Its N5,000 for 6 yards. We don’t seem to have enough foodstuffs again ooooooooo.
the money for my cream yesterday. I want to do my hair tomorrow ooooooooooo to enable me attend Iya Kofo daughter’s naming ceremony. I will need some pocket money as well. Even though I don’t have a shoe that will match the colour of the lace material, I will manage the black one any way
"
if he was staying alone, he would not pay his utility bills, he would not buy ankara or buy his own cream? he would not buy foodstuff? what are you guys talking about for effing sake? i think the nigerian society raises the males to be lazy, useless and too dependent - many of them stay with their parents till marriage so its not surprising paying utilities in marriage seems strange and they complain when the wife reminds them of what needs to be paid!

The guy in this scenario is obviously struggling to make ends meet and all she does is demand, Demand, DEMAND and DEMAND.
if he's struggling to make ends meet - why procreate? why even get married? africans and their useless neanthertal mentality. once a man starts copping erëctions, the society is on his back to start producing babies like a swine as if that's all there is to raising a family. only people who can afford babies should have babies.....simple!

Is this the sort of life you would wish for your daughter Coogar? A girl who you put through school and I daresay university, a daughter you would have sat with night after night going through, and helping with her homework? A daughter you would have instilled the essence of independence and self-worth?
what i wish or not wish for my daughter is irrelevant - how my daughter chooses to live her life in matrimony is entirely up to them. what's my business with that? so if your daughter decides to stay at home in marriage, you would arrange for her divorce because you put her through havard, yale and MIT? you are a joker.....

Unless of course, you've got no intention of educating your daughter(s) - Rather, you'll drum into their heads that their future husbands must be the very definition of a "meal-ticket"? And they must live a life of total dependency?
Look, nor make me vex this evening o! angry lipsrsealed
meal-ticket my white butt!
who's going to take care of the kids? au pair? housemaids? green-blooded grannies? hell to the no. someone has to provide the child care and this is why family planning and maternity leave is in full effect. it's the woman that conceives and breastfeeds so logic dictates she would be the one to stay put and take care of the kids whilst the husband does the financial aspect of it. the woman can only re-enter into employment when the kids start school and even then his job must not be too tasking - any daughter that cannot accept the fact that nature has bestowed a role of child caring to them should adopt another father.

mind, i speak for housewives who left their career to raise kids not the ones who are just lazy doing nothing but gallivanting the globe. any man who sees a woman taking care of his kids as a leech is a disgrace to manhood! if that child grows up to be a pilot in future, the foolish husband would take the credits. if he goes on to become the most notorious criminal the world has ever seen then the society blames the wife - so why shouldn't a man value the work his wife puts in to raise his kids in becoming outstanding citizens in his community?

dayokanu: Eriberto is no longer a Brazilian when he cheats A Brazilian player admitted to reducing his age by 4 yrs and this tool is telling us it was while playing for club? Can a statement be more daft? I mean
because he would have been found out by his countrymen.....but you're daft, you cannot differentiate between a player who cheated and a whole squad cheating.

Eriberto claimed he was younger than he was, i bet you have never heard of Eriberto before now. Your football education is defective you need some lessons. Which nigerian player was caught in Atlanta 96 using a false age?
ignorant tool - you know eriberto so well and you can claim he was caught? grin cheesy

who's never heard of eriberto? i know he never played for brazil in any competition...
besides, he used an original birth certificate of a younger dude in his neighbourhood(his offence was impersonation, not fake documents).....he did not produce fake birth certificate like nigerians do. so the myth that brazil is as corrupt as nigeria is the daftest statement you can ever make. if birth certificates are $10 like it is in nigeria, eriberto would have produced one of his own without wahala - he even confessed the offence himself, he wasn't caught as the documents were genuine!

dayokanu: Recently here in Dallas a football player Dez Bryant couldnt walk after a game he was aged 24
that's because he had a back injury. kanu was fine after the game but his exertions during the game prevented him from walking and he had to be carried on a wheel chair. he did not injure himself but his tissues were too old! stop comparing apples and oranges....very soon, you would bring out rooney's metatarsal injury at 19 to prove he was stretchered off the pitch. you are a tool!

dayokanu: Brazilian Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Júnior won the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship using fake documents to claim that he was born in 24 January 1983. Because of this, he was banned for 360 days from football.[15]

This was a player born in 1978 claiming 1983
why was brazil as a nation not banned then? nigeria got banned and even had their hosting rights stripped off!
the case of the brazilian player was a one-off. the only incident that has ever happened in brazil. nigeria has been using age cheats in age grade competitions since the fall of man in eden.

Those Redknapp quotes what were they supposed to mean? Kanus body gave up? Hello? 21yr olds bodies can give up on them
then give us an instance out of the over 2 million football players in history.
a player that couldn't walk again after a football game and he wasn't injured on the pitch. let us know a player who's supposed to be 32 but cannot straighten up after a football game. even harry's physios told him kanu was 42 when kanu signed for pompey! what do you know about sports science?

Harry Redknapp on Kanu:

I took Kanu off the local park. He wasn’t playing, just training on the park on his own - or so he said.

He did not have a club four days before that season started and I didn’t have a second forward. I was sitting there thinking where he had gone after being freed by West Brom. So I tracked him down, got him in and stuck him on the bench.

He would ring me every Sunday night at 11pm so he knew I was in bed. “Oh gaffer, it’s Kanu here.

Gaffer, I have the upset tummy, I cannot train tomorrow. I will not be in tomorrow, I do not feel well.

Every Sunday. But on the pitch ... first game, I stuck him on for the second half against Blackburn, he got two great goals and missed a penalty for the hat-trick. Monday we went to Middlesbrough, won 4-0 and Kanu got two more goals. He ran from the halfway line for the second. What a goal!

We got back home to the airport and we were sitting while waiting for the baggage to come. Suddenly he could not get up. His body had given up. We had to lift him into one of those wheelchairs.

No matter how the physios tried, his body would not straighten up. They lifted him up into the chair and wheeled him out the airport! He had to leave his car there and he could not drive. The physio had to drive him back. His body had gone.

Where is the bone marrow test you mentioned?

How old was Ronaldo lima, Roberto Carlos, Dida, Ortega, Claudio Lopez, Crespo Amaral etc that they competed against in that tournament
unless you have been living under a rock, you would know ronaldo lima was 19/20 during 96 olympics. he has a birth certificate to prove his age. kanu has none!

Forever Young: Nigerian Football's Age-Old Problem

Nwankwo Kanu's official age is 33 but his real age is 42. Obafemi Martins is not 25 but 32. Jay-Jay Okocha was 10 years older than his "official" age throughout his career. And Taribo West, whose playing career ended only two years ago, is in his late fifties. Who says so? A stream of bloggers on some of Nigeria's most popular websites, in response to comments made after the country's timid effort in last month's Africa Cup of Nations.

Failure to win that trophy is nearly always considered a scandal in the continent's most populous nation but Nigeria's latest misadventure in the tournament triggered a particularly explosive condemnation back home.

It started when a former manager of a leading Nigerian club told the Lagos Guardian: "What happened in Angola is a confirmation of what has been happening in the past where most of our players falsified their age during competition. Most of the players are beyond the age they professed and this made it impossible for them to withstand the pace of teams like Zambia and Benin."

It also led to an entertaining discussion that shows no sign of abating as the Nigerians, who have three months to prepare for the World Cup, reacted to the criticism by sacking the coach. "Our boys are old, we are paying the price for age cheating," said Ken Anugweje, a former national team doctor and board member of the Nigerian Football Federation.

Suspicions about true ages of some Nigerian footballers date back 20 years. Fifa banned Nigeria from all international fixtures for two years after finding that the birth dates of three of their players in the 1988 Olympics were different from ones used by the same players in previous tournaments.

You can choose your Opinion you cant choose your Facts.

Kanu is the highest ranked Nigerian ever by FIFA and UEFA take that to the bank
that football achievement becomes watery when we all know nigeria paraded overaged players throughout the squad. the rule says nigeria can only have 3 overaged players and 19 players below the age of 23. only amokachi, okechukwu and amuneke should have been allowed as the overaged players but nigeria paraded dinosaurs like taribo west, kanu, okocha, oliseh and oruma, etc. how won't they win? tunisia 94 is the highest point of nigerian football - no corruption, no age cheats. kanu's latest bone analysis revealed he's 42. if he's 42 in 2012, how old was he in 96?

maybe that was why they lost - cos he started! mikel obi started a champions league final for chelsea.....he must be better than okocha then, isn't he? stick the awards where the sun don't shine. one of my biggest problem with you is your uncanny ability to speak from both ends of your mouth. on chelsea thread, torres is useless for not scoring enough goals for his national team.....on this thread, kanu is god cos FIFA said so. how can a striker not score a tournament goal for nigeria throughout his career and you are here lauding him? you are a disgrace. oman biyik deserves a mention...he's far better than kanu. samson siasia deserves a mention, he's miles better than kanu. if you push me, i would list victor agali, julius agahowa, samuel okwaraji and the diminutive henry nwosu.

Kanu missed a one on one vs Denmark Just like Baggio missed a Penalty at the World cup final
Not every good player plays for top clubs That means the player is not good enough If you are good enough throughout your career you would play for a top club
baggio had scored 5 world cup goals that took italy to that final in the first place so he can be excused. baggio's goals eliminated nigeria in the second round in case your memory is malfunctioning. without baggio's goals, nigeria would have knocked italy out. kanu had no pedigree before the denmark game for super eagles and yet he still squandered the only chance in the game. find another analogy and stop double-speaking.

chic2pimp: I like this list. Most especially the top 5. As I've said all along, any list that does not have Africa's greatest ever playmaker in it's top 5 is wrong. Though I must say including kanu in top 6 is highly dubious
kanu shouldn't even be in the top 30 list in my opinion.

he was a bench-warmer in all the big clubs he played for. at ajax, he was a substitute in their champions league victory in 1995. at arsenal, he was even worse and his career at inter milan was nothing to write home about. bebe is doing better at man utd than kanu did in inter. so what's the basis of kanu's greatness? oh yes - the olympic of 1996 - an age grade competition where nigeria was allowed to bully their counterparts with overaged players throughout the squad.

for the national team, kanu did nothing......he was the reason nigeria lost to denmark in france 98...one v one with schmeichel and kanu dropped a clanger. kanu has never scored a tournament goal for naija at senior level. in terms of natural talent, okocha is the better player regardless of which clubs he played for. not every good player would make it to a big club.

J12: Stats and facts don't lie.

Name Age Club Appearances Goals Assists
Paul Scholes 38 Manchester United 713 155 31
Xavi Hernandez 32 Barcelona 655 79 82
Steven Gerrard 32 Liverpool 613 154 100
Frank Lampard 34 Chelsea 581 194 130
Andres Iniesta 28 Barcelona 482 49 61
scholes is the only player of note on that list that can rival xavi......
gerrard/lampard are set-piece specialists, lampard must have scored 70 goals via penalty kicks, gerrard won't be lagging behind as well and this tends to boost their stats. on the basis of how they influence the game, scholes and xavi are tonnes better - but gerrard and lampard are the media poster boys.

xavi: 'In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen — the most complete — is Paul Scholes. I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything. ‘He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong, he never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn’t give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more.’

Sagamite: You fail too realise Xavi's role in the team is not to score. He is rarely seen in the box 18, unlike Gerrard and Lampard, and he is not the penalty taker.

His job is to create the type of football Barcelona plays that we are saying is making the Barcelona team the best we have ever seen. The same Barcelona that made Man U look like Stoke City in a Champions League final. Xavi (in conjunction with Iniesta) is the real-life, real-time architect of such humiliation. Xavi is the hub everything goes through. He is like King's Cross St Pancras and Euston Station put together. He always has the highest number of passes and the highest pass completion rate. When you draw a tactical map of Barcelona (the best team ever seen) on a chart, you will have to draw a string from Xavi to all the players with double the number of that individual string between him and Iniesta. His pass completion rate, season after season, in La Liga or Champions league, is normally over 90%. Lampard and Gerrard normally reside in the 80%s AND they make far less number of passes than Xavi (less than half) and Xavi's passes create multiple times more chances than those 2 combined, so don't think Xavi only passes backwards or sideways. He also does not lose the ball. If those two have a pass rate in the high 80% in a game in the league, they would normally be regarded as outstandiing in that game. Xavi is outstanding like that in every game, he is the playmaker, the architect, the brains, the puppet master.

Please watch that clip with care and think about it. I know he makes those passes look easy and effortless. Look at the passes very well: the vision, the weight and the accuracy, they are incredible and too intelligent. Even when he decides not to touch the ball, it is intelligent.
i agree.......xavi is by far the greatest midfielder of his generation. he's even greater than zidane but messi's greatness tend to put players like xavi and iniesta in the shadow. in my lifetime, i have never seen anyone like him(bar maradona). he's the conductor of barca/spain and i believe spain's dominance would take a dent when xavi retires.......

shocking there's no lakhdar belloumi in your top-ten list......belloumi is even more idolised than rabah madjer in algeria. this is the player that invented the blind pass. take out n'kono or essien sharp sharp.....when belloumi was sodomising west germany in 82 world cup, essien was feeding via placenta.

Morayo747: I see nothing wrong with being a full time house wife. Infact once we have a the baby we're are planning for my wife is going to be a full time house wife.

Reason is this : we have 1 daughter at the moment her nursery fees is in excess of £700 every single month. My wife earns about £1300 every month after tax. This means it absolutely makes no sense whatsoever for her to work if we add to our brood.

For those saying stay at home mums are lazy you really don't know what you are saying as raising children is hard work too.

If anyone is going to be grumpy and tired everyday I'd rather it be me. I don't mind at all being the sole provider in my home.
excellent post, sir
this is a man who gets it.
That was a lame argument/rebuttal. You're trying to hard to be right and unfortunately for you, in the career woman vs. housewife "argument" there's no right or wrong side, really.

Who in her right mind will agree to be a housewife when the man can't even meet silly financial needs like cream, salon visits, school fees, etc.

A housewife is a housewife because her family/husband can handle it!!!

I have an aunt (bless her) that her husband wouldn't allow her do shît after some years of marriage. She had four kids for the man, so the man decided that its better for him to solely provide the money, and for her to FULLY take care of their 4 kids since they all girls anyways (girls need special care).

These kids are ôn point as we speak! During open days in school back then, when their mum came to visit, other kids were always jealous of them; jealous of the sweet relationship she has with her kids; first to come for open day, last to leave, she would visit her child's teachers privately and personally and so on.

Trust me, raising kids is a career in itself. Some do it well some don't. A devoted housewife raising her kid vs a workaholic is like comparing an electrical engineer to an electrician. TIME spent and devotion are important factors!!!
dayo is a village man......
a man who is still pursued by his wife to pay nepa bills n school fees has no business having kids or he should get an extra wife that works to boost their financial income. the world has changed - men indirectly pay a huge chunk of their wages into their housewife's account - she does not need to be asking money for pepper, onions and garri every morning like iya bashirat!

maclatunji: Don't mind Dayo, it is only a matter of time before the maid becomes Oga's lover in his second example. We have seen it all before.
and it's on this same section they would shamelessly post a topic narrating how their husbands impregnated the housemaid.......crying n gnashing their teeth from pillar to post!

Tobiegal: Coogar can go on and on... but until you are in such position(if you aint already...) then, you can never fully understand what it means for a woman to contribute her bit to the family.
her contribution is profound - staying at home and taking proper care of our children. how is that not contribution. go and interview widowers about how they raised their kids and maybe then you would understand that contributing your bit to the family shouldn't always be about money. what's money?

I enjoy sharing responsibilities with my husband, and as far as our son goes, we spend as much time as we can with him. To enhance our family time, because we don't believe in house-help... we all tend to move around together a lot.
i don't disagree with you - what works for A will work for A and what works for B will work for B but the blatant criticism of women who have decided to put their family before their career should stop!

So, technically, we are apart during the day... like every other family, and go home together in the evening after work/creche hours. And guess what... it works perfectly.
So, for me, its up to the family to decide what works for them.
exactly!
it's up to the family to decide what works best for them and no one should criticise one method or place one over the other. what do you value more? wages or family or striking a balance between the two?

i have already told my spouse she might not work for a while after putting to bed. a chunky fraction of my salary would go to her account as a standing order - unlike the archaic example dayokanu was giving above with wife coming to husband to ask for money like a beggar. who does such these days? if my wife is staying at home for our benefit then common sense dictates i should be paying her for the services.

ileobatojo: Wait! What's that? It's not on record? There's no evidence to support your claim?! You pulled that number solely out of your rear end?! Please, say it isn't so Joe!! grin grin
i didn't - i have attended several pta meetings where this issue has been trashed out by vets. there was even a debate about this ish sometime ago that i saw but i am too knackered to search telegraph/dailymail now to provide what you need - this issue shall be revisited later.

Thank you. I like my little Jackie Chan like that!
bless him!

ileobatojo: Stop the rigmarole. I never said a parent should not spend lots of time with their child. I'm looking for support for your magic number of 30 hrs (weekday). This top 20 blah blah blah is of no use to me whatsoever. I need to see the cold, hard facts supporting the numbers you are throwing around.
stop this bureaucracy - what's not on record does not exist bullshyte is what is affecting the present generation. until oprah or obama says so, you are never going to believe it. so take what methods that work for you!

Oh! So we're counting asleep time now? grin
hypothetically speaking - if he takes a nap in the afternoon, he does so knowin you are around him. most times he's even there dozing in your arms or cuddling up! those moments are golden - the ones kids don't easily forget!

Oh dear lord! shocked
unless you are there with him while he practises his van damme kicks, it's a waste of time! take him out of the karate classes and spend quality time with him. what does a kid under 12 needs karate for anyways? are you training him to be the next chuck norris?
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar:
ileobatojo: Really? It's either your math is abysmal or you recommend I cut off 2 hrs out of my kid's sleeping time. And when this translates into school failure due to sleep deprivation, the fact that we spent 6 hrs a weekday of quality time together will take him to college right?
where's the 2 hrs you are cutting off? do you stay 20 miles away from his school? 2 hrs before he gets to school and 4 hrs after he closes is enough. if he takes a siesta during these hours, he's going to bed knowing mummy is around. there's a sense of security around him unlike going to bed knowing mummy is in Wall Street doing the paper-chase. go n learn parenting skills!

And did you recommend video games? On weekdays? In place of discipline instilling, life skills teaching, age appropriate physical activities? Oh lawd!
what is wrong with mother n child bonding by playing wii or supermario instead of being stuck in a karate class where he doesn't even know what is learning. x-boxing with him gives him a mental edge rather than the physical nonsense he does not need at that young age. are you training him to be a pilot/rocket scientist or you are training him to be a UFC fighter or a weight-lifter? get out of here. computer games at that young age helps him more than karate or even football!

Anyway, enough with the back and forth. Do you have a source for your claim that kids who don't spend up to 30 weekday hours per week of quality time with parents lack parental care and become mentally disturbed members of society? If you do, just post it abeg.
so until it's written like the 10 commandments, you are not buying it even when it's obvious it's common sense that the longer a parent spends with his child, the more balanced the child is and the more the parent understands the child? na wa o!

Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 11:44pm On Jan 28, 2013
ileobatojo: Lol! So because you were attached to your mother's bosom till age 10 means every child who is not is a menace to society?
can become a menace to society if not properly looked after......

My kid spends 8 hrs in school, more on days with after school taekwondo and chess club, spends 11-12 hrs sleeping at night. Pray tell me, where do I find 6 hrs quality time a weekday to spend with him? Should I start picking him up before school closes? Or should we cut down on sleep to about 8 hrs? So you're telling me I'm essentially raising a kid who will turn out weird solely for the reason of this weekly schedule? Please, sit down.
2 hrs before school in the morning, 4 hrs after school - what's so difficult in that? how far are you living from his school that you cannot have quality time with him before school or after. taekwondo lessons are just an excuse to be away from him. what's the relevance of taekwondo to a 8-10 yr old. he should be x-boxing or playstationing in those hours of learning taekwondo. let him start self-defence classes when his bones are strong enough to defend himself not now when he's still a child. parents should create time to spend with their kids! there's a common factor with all the people who turned out mentally disturbed - lack of parental care!
