U guys are just not facing reality. It's not every one that can handle harsh words when it's being handed down.
cry babies should not be on nairaland!

Tgirl4real: With ur user name someone still thinks you are a man huh grin grin grin
Back to topic, it's faceless but some of us are soft and more emotional than others. And truthfully, some people take things wayyyyyy beyond NL.
Anyhow, whether on or offline, we should be mindful of the way we attack people. Not everyone can handle it.
with the number of insulting words one gets to hear on lagos roads, i think it's kind of soft when anyone whines about the insults they got from poster x or poster y. all nigerians should be immuned to yabs and stuff. better still, ignore the comment and move on. ujujoan has attempted to cyberbully me several times - i just put her in my prayers each time for her creator to touch her heart!
And you know what many find beyond annoying?? Arguing based on a vague premise.

You hide behind your Quality Time + Quantity Time equation because of the blanket it provides.

If a point is made showing how children with homemarker moms also have issues, you can counter it with "Oh they may be home but are they spending quality time with the kids?

If a point is made showing children with working moms have turned alright you go. . . but it can be better with quantity timee....you completely distort the entire debate jumping from one side to the other (Which is why it seems you are talking outta both sides of your mouth)

The issue is simple

MOM A DOES NOT WORK
MOM B WORKS

Show us hard facts like the Nokia vs Iphone facts that children brought up with working moms are worse off. Show us facts like the Nokia vs Iphone what children with working moms lack or have that the children with homemakers do not lack or do not have. . .Facts that can be DIRECTLY LINKED to what side of the divide their moms are.

Until you can do that, it is pointless carrying on this issue with you.
sisikill at her best in being manipulative - hehehehehene
why must it be mom A works versus mom b does not work? when we all know other circumstances play a part in what a child would be? come on - na, you are not arguing with an illiterate.

a more precise comparison would be mom A works vs mom A does not work. just like sisikill uses nokia 3310 vs sisikill uses iphone 5 - which would be more effective?

checkmate!!!!!

fubbyy: I went to unical in 2005,the year aptitude test was introduced, after the exam and the money spent,I lost the admission,no way to travel back to my house because I have already told people that I've gotten the admission and no way to tell my parents the truth after all the money and the trust they spent on me

So I decided to stay back in school and wait for another admission, I started attending lectures,no one knew that I wasn't a student,it was my toughest secret,my dad gave me school fees, accommodation fee and other things to ensure that I have a quality education

One day I met this guy(he's a nairalander and that's why I opened this thread so he can read and see what he has caused me) we became the best of friends,I used to wear his clothes and he wear mine, we could die for each other, because of the excitement I taught I should tell him my secret

I told him,he promised to keep it secret, few months later we had a problem,I exposed all his lies to his girlfriend concerning his affair with the landlord's maid, he felt I have exposed him and decided to revenge by stealing my father's number from my phone and text him that I wasn't a student

2days later I saw my dad in calabar, asking me to show him my department,it was then I knew that I was finished,I wanted to play him but he was a student 37 years ago,(he knows everything) well I decided to tell him the truth rather than facing the shame in the department,he was disappointed @ me,he left cali on the next flight back to enugu, 2months later my name came out on the 2nd list but it was too late then cause nobody listened 2 me and my dad had already

vowed not to spend a dime on me again, but mum out of the love she had for the son got me another admission in 2007 and saw me through the four years in school(dad contributed but was focusing on his children that was truthful)I graduated 2011,few weeks later after my graduation, I find my mum but couldn't see her,mum is dead

Now its between me and dad, dad has lost his trust on me,whatever thing I do he must get to the root of it to see how genuine it is,he kept referring back to what happened 8 years ago,he's already making plans on following me to nysc camp by next 2 months to see if am actually going to camp

michael ekanem all these are what you have caused me,I just want to let you know that your stupidity last 8 years has haunted and still hurting me till date, I know I shouldn't tell your gf that but you went too far my homie, am writing this because uyime told me you are an active nairalander so I guess you are reading since I couldn't find you on facebook

I don't know where you are now, I pray not to set my eyes on you because korofo no go fit save you, aye no dey kill aye no dey for dis 1, mike you really broke the bond I had with my father, thank you very much

Whoever that is reading this, please learn one thing from my story, which is ... LET YOUR SECRET BE YOUR SECRET... Don't let it out to any1 no matter your closeness, friendship or the love

Thank you..
please forgive me, it will not happen again.
i was pissed you reported my affair with otunba's housemaid - i felt revenge is a dish best served cold. how can i undo the damage that has been done?
One needn't have to use both phones to know what is glaringly obvious – The Iphone is better than the Nokia in terms of features. It’s not an opinion. . .IT IS A FACT LAID OUT IN BLACK AND WHITE!
it peeves me to the marrow when people argue this way.
by the same token, one needn't have to be married to know what is glaringly obvious that - the stayathome mum would spend more time with her kids than the stereotypical career woman. it's not an opinion, it's a fact - the more time spent with one's kids - the better for the family.

duh, nokia 3310 owners would also argue which is more cost effective - one apple phone would buy twenty nokia 3310s - why waste such money on an i-phone when the basics of calling/receiving and sending texts exist on both phones. nokia 3310 is more user friendly too and it won't attract petty thieves - this is analogous to: why spend so much time with my children when i can work, come back home and spend fewer hours?

On the other hand, everything being said about the advantages and disadvantages of career women vs homemakers and vice versa are nothing but opinions. Until there are glaring facts showing one side's superiority over the other (like the Iphone having an IBook reader and the Nokia doesn't. . .type of facts i.e OBVIOUS) I think it is a bit deceptive to use that illustration in this case.
the superiority is in the fact that the more quality/quantity time spent with one's kids the better it gets for the family - why hasn't anyone tackle this irrefutable fact? like i have said nokia owners would tell you the affordability of acquiring the apple is a huge disadvantage just like career women would tell you they cannot afford to spend so much time with their kids - even when they know they should!

and if it's glaringly obvious and indisputable like you claim that apple is better than nokia - why are some people still using their nokia then? everyone should be using the iphone - just like everyone takes water!

On a looking for trouble note, how come we never get a this vs that debate where men are the focus?!

Obiora4life: You lie my brother. The incident of Connecticut was a group of isolated incidents tied into the loose gun control laws, DOES IT MAKE NEWTOWN CONNECTICUT A DANGEROUS CITY? I live in VA, and the VA TECH INCIDENT, does it make VA a dangerous city? I remembered when the Supreme Court handed down their decision in the DC case handing the authority for people to bear arms, other cities adopted it and today, who will believe it has spiraled into a blood bath today?
these isolated incidents keep happening in places the media have described as the safest! it only tells me one thing - nowhere is safe in america. forget the media bullshyte and how they lie to the masses. the entire country is out of control!

Don't get what? Your pull down conspiracy theories?
america is already down - they don't need my help to pull them down.
their flag(stars and stripes) is the most disrespected flag on the planet - i cannot count the number of times it's been abused. it's a shyte country, admit it so we can move on......

You drew that conclusion that if you cannot provide healthcare then you're a third world country? LOL, unfortunately, that's "COOGAR" definition, and NOT world generally accepted principle... Thank God for that.
do you believe health is wealth? yes or no?

Free healthcare has and is continuously being a strong debate, U.S. cannot provide free healthcare because 1) it's a populous nation and 2) with the highest numbers of immigrants in the world + 3)healthcare by default is the most expensive. An average healthcare cost annually burdens the govt let alone making it free. Just to go for checks every 6months cost at least $4,000 x that by 1million citizens = $4billion. Meanwhile 1million is about less than 1% of the population, so you want free healthcare based on these numbers... Well, America doesn't operate like that.
the population should be an advantage not a disadvantage.
with taxes in full effect, why should the population be a disadvantage? argue objectively, my friend - if america divert what they spend on defence to healthcare, health would be free but they prefer sticking their noses in other people's affair whilst their own house burns.

What is wrong with the death penalty? I've supported it so what happens? What has death penalty got to do with healthcare? Besides ONLY a handful republican states still practice it, the FG (if I'm correct), does not practice the system
capital punishment? nothing wrong with it?
apart from the fact that you run the risks of executing innocent people - what about the right to live of these people? how can america preach human rights on one side of the mouth and then execute prisoners on the other side of the same mouth?

have you ever wondered why countries who practise the capital punishment also have the most violent criminals? because the criminals know the state won't spare them if caught - so they kill before they are killed. capital punishment has proven not to be a deterrent - so why is still being practised?

Definitely, last thing I wanna have today is an endless YET argument. If your believe is that America is a third world, good luck to you. Majority do not think in your line, it will make good if you go challenge the economist and their ranking.
you shouldn't have started at all if you are going to cop out......
america by all means is a 3rd world country - if you don't agree then lay down your points and let's get it cracking or better still........ignore my comments!

Obiora4life: How can you use 1 city to attribute to hundreds of cities?
because people in those cities are subhumans?

Granted that Chicago, Illinois is one of the worst crime rate cities in America, I mean, they are the top 10 cities, but if have an average of ALL cities in America, it's very low on average.
it's not very low - every city in america is dangerous.
connecticut - the state was recently praised as one of the safest in america then a lad went to school and took 27 people and himself out - how great is that?

Crime rate and free healthcare etc are not IMO what defines first/second/third world countries. These are classified under G&grin, domestic and foreign policies (which includes fiscal policies, social, capital, poverty, I mean all the basket is BIG), and the list is endless. Your classification based on ONLY crime rate and healthcare is just wayy off mark.
3 words - health is wealth!

Besides, U.S. may not have free healthcare because it's expensive here but majority does access to govt sponsored medicare programs that entitles them to the same benefits like those on insurance as well. At least with the new Obamacare, no longer shall it be said that 30million + people aren't covered.
this is where you people don't get it.....
if you cannot provide free health care in the 21st century then you are a 3rd world country. tell me one reason why free health is a daunting task in america? everything about the country just makes me sick - they are about the only country where capital punishment is still being practised in this day n age and you are talking about domestic/foreign policies and GDP.........abeg, park well!

Tolexander: do you mind telling me the daft policies of the USA?
If crime rate, murder rate are the parameters, then countries like swaziland and lesotho will be 1st world countries.
you speak absent wisdom......
what's my business with swaziland and lesotho? do these countries puff their chests as being the greatest? when did the countries you mentioned copper their independence? of course there are several parameters that make a country great but there are main factors one cannot overlook!

And how many countries in the world has the free health care than USA.?
and this is why the ones who do are first world and the ones who don't are down the ladder. it's as simple as that. the elite are always very fewer than the masses. america do not belong to the elite - you can take that to the bank with my name on it!

debosky: Saudi Arabia produced Bin Laden and the 9/11 bombers while Denmark produced LEGO and C++ programming - go figure. grin
isolated case!
compare the crime rate in both countries and lets have a proper debate!

Northern Nigeria with predominantly stay at home mums produced Boko Haram. grin
south-western nigeria with predominantly working mums have the highest crime rate in nigeria.........armed robbers, kidnappers, pröstitutes, etc. why won't they? if only the parents stay at home more to monitor their kids.

The Connecticut shooter's mum was a stay at home mum.
lawrence anini's mum was a working mum. jefferey dahmer's mum is a working mum. james holmes'(batman shooter) parents are fully employed.

If I was arguing as daftly as you are, the above would be evidence that stay at home mums = raising crazy, unbalanced murderers.grin
no, you are arguing daftly cos none of us has said women should just stay at home and take weed. we have emphasised spending quality/quantity time with the kids in their formative years.

he's too old and slow-paced for our generation. just look at his denmark stats? only 15% of saudi arabian women are in their labour force and they don't produce hooligans as well. who compares mega multicultural countries like usa/uk to denmark/finland in terms of what their kids turn out to be. it's like comparing the moral decadence in lagos to a typical nigerian village..........by default, lagos' crime rate would be 100 times higher.

debosky: No - what I am saying is that reality beats fantasy every day of the week. I can have an opinion on what type of propulsion technology is best for getting to Pluto, but only a phool would take my opinion over a rocket scientist who has actually designed working propulsion systems.
ok, let's take it back to the drawing board.
assuming you are a father as we speak.....do you wish you spend more time with your kids? yes or no?

Again, it depends on the circumstances involved, there's no one size fits all. That's all I'm trying to say.
i agree but those who work themselves to death also wish they could spend more time with their kids. the fact is you cannot spend too much time with your kids. the more time you spend with them, the better.

nobody(especially nigerians) would admit their methods are wack - this is why i enjoy oyibo forums. they would admit their ways are not the best but they cannot help it - but a nigerian would argue with you till he's blue in the face that nokia 3310 is better than iphone because he cannot afford the iphone.

there's nothing wrong in holding one's hands up that if one had a wish, they would love to spend more time with the kids. we all get it - not everyone can afford having one stay at home parent but don't rubbish the method because its unaffordable!
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 1:03pm On Jan 31, 2013
debosky: A theory is something you've not put into practice. Simple.
Do you have kids? Have you been a working mum or a stay at home mum? If you haven't, you're spouting theory and nothing else - when you've actually 'been there and done that', then your opinion may carry more weight.
bollocks!!!
in other words, only the married folks can have an opinion about what works better? the money spent on your education should have been used for pig farming in gbongan!

But it isn't - one isn't better than the other. Denmark has 74% of mothers in work, not being housewives and it is producing better outcomes for children than other countries like the UK or the US with higher percentages of housewives.
are they producing better outcomes of children than saudi arabia where more than 80% of the women are stayathome mums? be at your sharpest when you are debating and stop throwing useless statistics in our faces!

The truth is that you cannot generalise what is better for any two cases - it depends on the individual circumstances, societal pressures and the views of those involved.
yes, you can - it's common sense....
having one parent stay at home with the children can be cost-effective and a great investment in the emotional well being of your entire family. having a parent stay home and work a part-time job, while still caring for a child, gives a family the best of both worlds and you can take that to the bank!
Family › Re: Being A Nigerian Housewife by coogar: 12:42pm On Jan 31, 2013
debosky: It's quite interesting that many of the combatants on this thread do not have any parenting nor marriage experience, but deem it fit to make sweeping generalisations on either side of the divide.

Theory is one thing, reality is another.
The ones I respect are those that have seen/experienced both sides - being a working mum and staying home as they have the valid life experiences.

Don't get too hung up on your theories - if you do, you might just be unable to adapt if/when life throws you a curveball.
for goodness sake, tape it shut!
the assertion that one has to be directly placed in a situation to have an opinion is grossly idiotic. if that is the case, the purpose of having a forum like this is defeated. why do you then criticise jonathan? why don't you wait till you are in his shoes before you have an opinion about his leadership.

if life throws you a curveball, catch it and throw it back to where it came from. my education/training and common sense have built me up to withstand any situation - so you get a c-minus for the above comment! there's reality before theory not the other way round!

if a man prefers a housewife to a working class woman don't you think the issue would have been discussed during courting or you think it's a decision people just make after producing rugrats all over the place? people who put their family first before their career have a reason to feel so and the ones who want to be slaves to money - also have their reasons for doing so.

dayokanu: Did Okocha win nations cup for Nigeria?
yes he did - but without okocha, we wouldn't have beaten cote d'ivore and zambia.

When Nigeria won nations cup at least 10 players were ahead of Okocha for the triumph
he was only 20 then.
at that age, kanu had not represented nigeria in the senior team. why is it so easy for me to merk you?
