ogbeche77: Dembele? Yes!!! I prefer him to your beloved Anderson
in terms of fitness and durability, yes.....
but in terms of ability, i don't think he's better than anderson...however, he would be cheap as he's got only a year left on his contract. £10m or £15m should bring him to old trafford! our fans singing "sign him up, fergie" on saturday might influence fergie!

having pondered over dembele, i think he would be a wonderful addition to our squad because of one factor - his physicality! he's a beast - i would love to see him go against yaya toure(it would be the battle of the titans).

anderson and cleverley are excellent but only when going forward - midfield dominance is much more than dominating only when you have the ball, you must also dominate when you don't have the ball and it's obvious ando-clev easily get bullied when they are not in possession.

another reason dembele should be considered is the carrick factor! if we lose carrick to injury, then we are royally screwed! fletcher is the only similar player to carrick defensively and he's been out of competitive football for far too long. scholes/giggs are over the hill...

i couldn't tell you if he's an accomplice or not - which was why i asked
just making sure the investigators are not overexcited....only the guilty party should face the full wrath of the law.... knowing how brainless nigerian police can be, one has to ask these questions.

if 2 people fight and 20 other people are there watching, nigerian police would arrest the whole 22 for fighting and disturbing the peace - whereas only 2 people have actually broken the law - the other 20 were just arrested so the police can generate revenue for their own pockets!

dayokanu: It depends on what he knew, Assuming the guys came to meet him to prescribe a "date rappe drug" for them and he did then he might be an accomplice
absolutely....
and if that is really the case, he's as evil as the murderers.... but supposing he's unaware of what the criminals were doing with the drug. if he owns the pharmacy store, there's a chance he employed a sales rep to dispense the drugs and he just comes in to sort the accounts and take stock of what needs to be refilled!

okoji: The pharmacist was also charged to court. He is my sisters friend and they attended the same school. He is a very very very nice guy. Unfortunately he is now the scapegoat because a lot of pharmacies sell drugs without prescription. The pharmacist is the one with glasses not covering his face.
but why charge the pharmacist as an accomplice? did he know what the criminals were going to do with the drug before hand? i know he shouldn't have sold drugs without prescription but in nigeria, these ethic codes are not obeyed.....one can get anything at any pharmacy store in nigeria. most of them are not even qualified pharmacists! nigerians just use their car loans to buy drugs, rent a shop and before you spell "jonathan", they are dispensing drugs to all and sundry!

logica: LMAO. So the prying eye in the lobby is not close enough? The guy that came into the lobby just to be sure he knows who's carrying money doesn't know what he's doing? If it was to determine who's carrying large sums by judging from GMG-dragging-dolts (as yourself), does he need to be in the lobby? Was it not a few posts back you said robbers stay at the entrance of banks? Keep grasping at straws. Once again, only a zinjanthropus will go collect large sums of money that require GMG (and without being accompanied by armed policemen).
stop barking without biting - not everybody in the banking hall can be in a position to see what is being paid @ the counter. i cannot say for the community bank you operate in your hamlet where banking operations are done under mango tree! i have made my point, high denomination currencies are easier to count and much more comfortable to transit from one point to another. it now means i can have half a million in a small envelope without being marked by miscreants like yourself!

Any with the part in bold, were you being logical when you jumped for joy that now you can collect 2 bundles of 5000 notes, when there really is no guarantee that they will ALWAYS be available?
the availability or the lack of it would be determined by the demands of the customers!
if the bank is situated where big merchants operate then you can expect more 5000 notes than your community bank where the total cash in their vault is less than N50,000.....you lack wisdom and please quit these moronic lines of arguments and let other people advance their own points....

logica: I must confess, I have never seen this kind of m0r0n before. Is there anything like "vintage mugu"? I was in the banking hall today, and I saw a man paid 500k right there at the counter. I didn't have to count it. They were bundles of 100k notes. It doesn't take a degree in rocketry to count bundles of 1000 notes knowing the color of the note, and knowing each bundle is 100k and 5 of such is 500k. I know, I know. For a mugu like you it's a science.
goodness gracious!
don't you ever stop - you have to be close to the customer to know which particular currency he was paid to begin with. with a man dragging a GMG bag, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know he's dragging money. one of them is more prone to be marked as a target than the other - that is the point! your username is logica and yet you display the attributes of an intellectually-sterile baboon!

And this is a given right? Or why did you use the operative word "might". As I said, what is the GUARANTY that simply because there is now a 5000 note, then they will be available even if the 1000 note isn't? Will there be more 5000 notes in circulation than 1000 notes? Now using probability, can you tell me how likely it is for a bank to have more 1000 notes available than 5000 notes?
logic evades you.....
the plan is to mop up the worthless currency denominations and gradually introduce the 5000 note. there would be availabilty of the 5000 note and a bank can run short of any currency denomination at any given time.....it has little to do with the general circulation, another customer present at the bank earlier could have hauled off all the 1000 notes available for the day so what's your point?

in the punditry of hard currency, your intelligence at it's best would be the zimbabwean dollar.....i wouldn't even try to explain the concept behind "coogar" cos those who know me knew why coogar was chosen after "cougar" was permanently banned! i would just let the world know the truth that your idiocy in megawatts should solve all the electricity problems in all the 3rd world nations.

Can any primary school student in here check the 3 exhibits and tell us how EXHIBIT B differs from EXHIBIT C. And how EXHIBIT A significantly differs from EXHIBIT B? For one, EXHIBIT A is saying hoodlums wait at the entrance of banks and randomly select customers who they think have huge amounts (which of course is far from reality as anybody hanging around a bank exit will surely be harassed by policemen and security attached to the bank; so our man has changed his story to EXHIBIT B). While EXHIBIT B and C both say that the hoodlums actually target customers because they KNOW have money on them after having witnessed them being paid on the counter.
you must have traded your common sense for a plate of porridge.....
whether exhibit a,b or c is deployed has nothing to do with the general modus operandi, fact remains smaller volume of cash is less obvious than a larger volume. if you cannot bend your mind around that simple irrefutable fact then you should sue your teachers for mismanaging your child development!

But then, tell me if your story has changed from EXHIBIT A to EXHIBIT B (meaning you now agree with me), how will 5000 Naira notes help you since the hoodlum has seen you've been paid? Whether you are paid in 50 Naira notes or 5000 Naira notes, does he not know you have 500k on you?
even his lame attempts to be pedantic falls flat on its face!
so who is easier to rob? a man dragging a bag along the road or a man whose cash is in his inner pocket of his jacket? are you such a saphead?

so, you mean you go to a bank to collect 500k and you don't ensure you are only given 1000 Naira notes? Which kind of id!ot does that? You mean you tell the teller to give you 20 Naira notes? You dey go spray 500k for Owambe party?
and if for a reason the bank does not have any high denomination, you won't take the money? isn't that the reason high denomination like 5000 naira is being introduced? isn't this the reason the lower denomination notes are being mopped up? when God was distributing intelligence, you were on a leave of absence!

I am still trying to figure how you end up using GMG bag to collect 500k. But then, if you cannot even ensure you are paid only in 1000 Naira notes, what will ensure you are only paid in 5000 Naira notes? If being an 1diot you use GMG bag to carry 500k, I can imagine 5000 Naira note will not change anything: you will still collect in smaller denominations. Surely you have a love for GMG bags.
without any shadow of doubt, you operate on a single digit intelligence quotient! it is what the banks have as currency that they would pay with - and this is exactly why sanusi is introducing high denominations! you still don't know how to argue - you are so poor in spirit and mentally that rainbow appears to you in white and black!!!

Besides i dont think cashless means removing cash completely but what ever you are going to use 5k for can be done electronically so why spend money to produce 5k bills that are not needed?
You claim its easier to carry a bundle of 5k notes and i say whatever you want to do with a bundle of 5k notes can be done by other means without physical cash.
nigeria is not that technologically sound yet! would you pay with a visa card in the meat market to purchase N100,000 worth of beef meant for a get-together? policies are meant to take care of all and sundry. there are commercial buyers too who buy in bulk and only few shops in nigeria own pdqs to facilitate cash transactions - so there you go!
@Coogar, Prices do go up due to 'general perceptions'... Laptop sellers in Alaba might want to push their prices up because maybe they find lower currency denominations less worthy, by so doing, push prices up to accommodate their thirst for newer denomination?
this makes no sense - the introduction of a new currency should not hike the prices. the value of your laptop should still be the value of your laptop. nigerians love to take advantage of situations and the buyers simply buy into the bullshit!

@Coogar, simple goods and services that aid production ( Increase aggregate supply) might go up, hence increasing inflation..... E.g, cost of power, fuel, labour, etc
what's the meaning of the above comment? counting tonnes and tonnes of worthless cash actually increases the transaction fee levied by the seller. with high denomination currencies in circulation, less time is wasted at the tills and transaction fees charged should reduce!

@Coogar, why are developed Economies not adopting this policy?
because developed economies are not bugged down by the inflation we already have in nigeria!

@Coogar, why should printing money come @ a cost, when its virtually zero in other countries?
what is going to produce this new currency? abracadabra?

If the CBN is really committed to reducing inflation, Why can't they use Seigniorage they generate to enhance supply?
high denomination currency should not drive inflation higher - this is a perception of the quack economists! they are 2 different issues and should not affect each other!

That in itself would for people to use bank transfers and other e-channels rather than cash.
you mean countries like america where you can present a $100 bill to buy a can of coke priced at 50 cent? their economy still thrives, isn't it?
A right thinking graduate that believes in going cashless should reason that lower bills makes it inconvinient to do large transactions in cash while higer bills makes cash transation easier.
So how do you plan to go cashless by making cash transactions easier?
lord of mercy....
cashless-policy does not mean the complete removal of cash transactions in the economy---it means reducing our dependence on cash. so you think people don't spend cash in developed countries? come off it, mate!

the introduction of the 5000 note would reduce the volume of the worthless notes in circulation. it means less cash for you to carry around. less cash is not less value as cash is different from value!

bittyend: To those arguing the N5000 notes would help Nigeria become a 'cashless society', why can't we go for the kill and print N100,000 notes, since most Nigerians have more than N100,000 in their accounts anyway?

You guys aren't making sense at all. What problems are the N5000 notes going to solve? How will it reduce inflation?

This is just another wasteful project, I bet they would spend billions of Naira to print the notes. This is madness in a country where the budget hasn't even been implemented, and there are so many things crying for funding. Why waste billions of Naira to print unnecessary and elitist notes?
nigeria is not zimbabwe that was forced into hyper-inflation by the various sanctions imposed on their economy. this is nigeria, the 5000 note would help ease transaction process! why do you think many organisations in nigeria transact in dollars? it is because of the ambiguity of counting worthless naira notes!

logica: You must be naive if you think hoodlums know you are carrying money just by staring at you. There is no robbery without information. Meaning they must have been tipped off (either by an employee of the bank or somebody present as you collected the money or the person you are paying the money to).
don't be daft ......
what tip-off would a hoodlum standing at the entrance of a bank need when he sees an alhaji dragging several gmg bags out of a bank? all he needs is to follow him and pin-point where he resides and so on n forth.....but if the same alhaji puts a bundle of 500k in his agbada, he can walk out of the bank easily without attracting prying eyes!

In any case, I don't see how this policy rhymes with the cashless policy. It's like speaking from both sides of the mouth. The 5k note simply encourages people to carry larger amounts of cash which they normally wouldn't due to bulk. I for one have never carried any amount of cash larger than 100k. Anything beyond that, I do a transfer.
it rhymes with the cash-less policy as the 5000 note would effectively reduce the volume of currency in circulation! 1 X 5000 note = 25 X 200 notes. 200 notes of currency is more than one note. contrary to what you think, you are actually shooting yourself in the foot!

Jarus: My Conversation With SLS On The New Currency Policy

Aftermath of all the issues raised on my FB wall and elsewhere, I decided to hear directly from SLS on this issue of currency introduction and others. I am publishing these relevant parts and left out private matters

ME: (by SMS) Sir, I wouldn't know if you're free now so I can call. I have some issues I want your clarifications on regarding this new currency policy. Suraj

SLS: (called immediately) Suraj, I am very busy today but...(line went inaudible)

ME: (by SMS) Let me raise my issues by SMS. MTN has been having reception issue here

SLS: (called) Suraj, I am very busy today. I have Bleep meeting tomorrow and YYY meeting on Tuesday before travelling to ZZZ on Wednesday. But we can have the discussion by phone in few minutes

ME: OK sir. I just needed your clarifications on some of the issues my friends have been inundating me on this CBN new policy. First, don't you think it is counter productive that at this time that we are advocating cashless Nigeria, we are introducing another currency, a higher one, N5000.

SLS: See, Suraj. It is not. First, know that this is not a monetary policy but just currency management. Our cashless policy never says there should not be any cash at all. It only discourages heavy cash in the system. Whether in N5 notes or N5000 notes, the limit of N500,000 will still be N500,000. So what are we saying? It also enhances operational efficiencies. The number of times banks load their ATM machines will also reduce. Banks can now load up to 5 times the value in their ATM and reduces rate of stocking and associated costs. The cost of printing and managing currency will also reduce. We

ME (cut in): But sir, don't you think this will ease corruption and movement of funds among our politicians?

SLS: Well, is there no corruption now that there are no N5000 denomination? It is not the duty of CBN to fight corruption among political class, you know. We are trying our best to block all holes of corruption, but that doesn't stop CBN from introducing a currency management policy that it deems fit. Fighting corruption is the work of EFCC, Police etc

ME: Sir, what of the issue of inflation. Is it not inflationary?

SLS: All that are unproven talks. I have challenged people to bring any study or research that says higher denomination leads to inflation. Nobody has brought any. Look, it is inflation that brings about currency renomination, not otherwise. In the last 10 years we have been battling double-digit inflation in Nigeria.

ME: What of this scenario: an item that is worth say N4,800 will be forced to be rounded up to N5000?.

SLS: But we have not phased out N1000, N500, N200 now? So you mean it is only N5000 you can use to pay for a N4800 good? How have you been paying before? (laughter)

On coins, Suraj, at CBN we are forward-looking. Look, in the next few years, even when I must have left as governor, people will look back and realize this is a good policy. We are looking at not only currency management but also modernization. A time will come, in very near future, when we will be paying tolls, paying for newspaper vending, with just coins at vending machine points. That is why we are promoting coin culture now. Also note that, we are not cancelling the notes. We are introducing the coins side by side. So you will still have N20 notes, for example, with N20 coins, until it gains acceptability.

ME: Sir, have you been speaking to be the media on this issue?

SLS: Suraj, you know I have been on this job for more than 3 years and most times when I talk to the media, the matter is sensationalized and controverted, so I have deliberately minimized my interface with the media in recent time.

NB: He quoted some statistics at relevant points in time which I can't exactly recall and weeded out to avoid misquoting him.
good job, jarus!
i can work with this piece rather than the sensationalised drivel i get to read on "saharareporters". i agree with the introduction of 5000 naira note, i wouldn't need a ghana-must-go bag to transport half a million naira anymore.

You people need to give it a rest. Samsung DID rip off Apple for the Galaxy S in 2010...and it was done deliberately.
the tool does not understand the difference between the theft of an intellectual property and apple making orders from rival companies!

ritchboy: In other words, Dembele violated the revered Ando/Clev axis? cheesy
he did not.....
ando-clev murdered him as observed by martin jol.....then sidwell came on to join diarra
and dembele was pushed further forward.....that was when he got united! dembele played in 2 different positions....when it was dembele/diarra versus ando-clev in the first 60 mins, ando-clev murdered their counterparts!

StarBoard: Yeah bu 18 1/2 hrs later we're still waiting for the stats. . . That Nokia has the micro-computing power of a candle!
the stats are ready but i am @ the carnival now dancing alanta with some jamaican bootays! not convenient to post with my nokia.....cleverley and anderson posted 90+% pass completion, dembele posted 98%. i checked the heatmap and i can categorically say it was our weak defence dembele sodomized - not our midfield! when kagawa went off and we conceded the 2nd goal - united went into a panic mode.......martin jol then pushed dembele from his deep position(where he was murdered by ando-clev) into the heart of our defence. he terrorised carrick, evra, rafael and vidic!!!

ritchboy: The Brittania is never an easy place to get a win, but the Sunderland result looks worse now.
britannia? i am shocked arsenal got something there today - massive credits to wenger's new assistant! that was the best defensive display of arsenal i have seen in about 6 seasons now! they dealt with everything stoke threw at them but sadly, the attack weren't up to the task to compensate the good work the defence put in today!

arsenal need a proper striker - at this point, a cheeky bid for owen or darren bent isn't misplaced!
