Sagamite: So because there was some teenage pregnancy in Nigeria in the past I should ignore if my child is watching porn or sexting?
with the proper upbringing, i doubt he/she would sext or porn.
but then porn does not necessarily make a child bad.

What you said was far majority of the kids don't speak English.
How did immigrant kids that cannot speak English become majority or represent majority in US/UK/Nigeria?
How did we get to using immigrant kids to be representative about kids in general or the kids of majority of people on this thread?
the thread asked if a child should own a cell phone.
you said no......and i bring up a scenario where the kid's first language
is not english. what provision should be made for kids in such category?

Brite02: my 2 young nephews one almost 10 the other 12. Have since, pressing and pressing hard the nokia torch light phone in the house, even going to the length of playing games on it,, they now know to save number, call numbers, receive calls, what can i say? It is now necessary these days for that age range to own a phone, a low end phone for that matter is a necessity, i tell u.

Then maybe, by 2020, will start thinking of giving our children internet-enabled phones.
or tablets. grin

Sagamite: The issue of sexting and porn by my child and who my child is mixing with is very significant when my parenting style is considered!
how would a nokia 3310 be a tool to pornsites?
teenage pregnancy was rife before mobile phones became popular.
are you telling me kids didn't get pregnant in nigeria in the 80s
and 90s? how is the mobile phone the cause of the unruly behaviour
in teens?

Since when did we start talking about immigrant kids?
How did immigrant kids that cannot speak English become majority or represent majority in US/UK/Nigeria?
so the outright prohibition of mobile phone usage by children should
not put immigrant kids into consideration? can you hazard a guess
how many immigrant kids are in the uk particularly from bangladesh,
india and pakistan?
Family › Re: When Is it Right For A Child To Own A Cell Phone. by coogar: 6:21pm On May 16, 2012
Sagamite: How can the remote possibility of danger be priority over other more imminent dangers?
You can as well just hire two professional body guards that are 6ft 6 with muscles like a Rhino and make sure they don't go out without the guards.
what are the imminent dangers? these phones would be
monitored. the parents check the on-goings on the phone
so it's not like i would be in the dark.

the issue of sexting n other related stuff is insignificant.

Majority of the Kids in UK, US or Nigeria don't speak English?
Really?
those immigrants, asylum seekers who don't speak english?
how do you expect them to communicate? are you going to
allow those in this category alone to use the mobile phone
and restrict the others or what?

moremi2008: My baby brother has had his own phone in Nigeria since he was 9/10 yrs old! But then, he's a spoilt brat (and has always been in boarding school) so I can't exactly use him as a standard for most Nigerian kids. My mum wanted him to have a phone for emergencies (but the few times I have been there when he called, it was to ask for more money or just say "hello"wink. They (mum and son) are both very happy with the arrangement (the school has seized his phone twice but my Mum keeps buying him a new one). Mothers mostly do it for a false sense of peace-of-mind. It's little money to pay to calm the nerves! grin
that's the point.
even though the sense of security is apparently false, it still lowers the blood pressure.
Family › Re: When Is it Right For A Child To Own A Cell Phone. by coogar: 6:10pm On May 16, 2012
Sagamite: I never said it is not here to stay. But it, in my view, is more likely to do harm than prevent it.
i disagree. any device that adds to the safety of my child cannot be harmful.
his safety must take priority over his tendency to watch pornsites, etc.
like i have said, it's going to be a nokia 3310 or sagem. nothing spectacular.

- Take the parallel street or tell the police that is your only way home. They are sane people, they would let a 10 year old through to go home.
- That is a good one. Elevators now have alarm bells and the next person would know it is stuck.
- The doctors are trained to call parents when minors are brought in. I am sure medical schools are as good as that.
- When they are suppose to be at home? They better let the family member notify Daddy or ensure the errand is very brief.
conveniently ignoring far majority of these kids don't even speak english as their first language.
so a kid bought freshly from the dungeons of congo republic or the pits of afghanistan to stay in
the uk having the problems mentioned by mrbrownjay should do what? hire a translator?

the rule must cater for all n sundry fairly to work.
Family › Re: When Is it Right For A Child To Own A Cell Phone. by coogar: 5:49pm On May 16, 2012
Sagamite: Unfortunately what you need for them is not a mobile. You will need to get them a bullet proof vest if you really worry that much about shooting.
and since i cannot afford that ant it's not permitted for him to wear a kevlar vest in school, the mobile phone
becomes a very good choice to offer that security i want.

If you REALLY want to be certain, then you will add giving them a personal gun to the vest, so they can gun the mudafucker back. grin Mobile would not be much help. The school's security, dinner ladies, teachers and co would have enough mobile phones to call 999 when they hear someone shooting at kids in a school.
personal guns are not legally permitted to minors as well so the mobile phone trumps this option again
even if the mobile phone adds just 1% security to the safety of my child then it's an essential tool to have

payless: There are seventeen core courses in criminal justice/criminoly fields. and there are twenty five other courses to take before your obtain a degree. Clueless is the right word to describe you.
this boy is such a toad!
the crux is not the number of core courses but the fact that they
do take law courses(a fact you disagreed with).
Family › Re: When Is it Right For A Child To Own A Cell Phone. by coogar: 5:19pm On May 16, 2012
Sagamite: No.
There have always been deparaved animals in history. More so in the past.
Shootings have been occuring in US schools for years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shooting#History_of_School_Shootings_in_the_United_States
your link shoes the trend continues to increase year in year out.
there are even more sophisticated means to carry out terrorism in school
these days and this is the more reason kids should have mobile phones.

A phone would hadly save them from bullets, it will, as you said, just add a 'sense'-of-security to a parent.
I am not really that paranoid about my child's safety, and I [would] love them as much as anybody else. I just don't buy into the whole cotton-wool parenting and fear consumerism.
i would expect my child to dial 999 the moment he hears shooting in the other classroom.
without a mobile phone, he's a sitting duck waiting to be slaughtered.

You said you "went further to list the law courses they must take to cop their degree", so in your coconut like head of yours, do you think those courses you listed are the courses one must take to obtain a degree in criminal justice? I have to ignore you because I didn't know your are depply in the gutter. The British governemnt needs to put you in psychiatric ward.

What about CRJ 2002- Police Role In the Community
CRJ 4205- Working with Minority
CRJ 2202- Criminal Investigation
CRJ 3002- Correction in America
CRJ 3000- Curbing Terrorism
CRJ 4000- Introduction to Law Enforcement
CRJ 4001- Criminology Today 1 (Lab. Setting)
CRJ 4002- Criminology Today 2 (Class Setting)
and the list goes on..................
you are a tool, the courses i listed forms the core of the
courses you must take to bag a degree. since you know nothing
about harassment in employment, how do i even expect you to know
what core courses one must take to cop a degree in criminology.
the more i nudge you, the more disappointed i get which goes to show
i was right in my assessment. you epitomise walter mitty! cool

Sagamite: My father was not around me all the time, the same for everyone around my age.

We did not even have drivers to take us to school, except you are mistaking the danfo driver as some kind of personal driver.

You can't speak to them through the driver's phone?
and you would agree there are more depraved criminals around now
than the way it was in the 80s when you went to school. nobody
was bringing assault rifles in the 80s but these days, anything
can happen in the school. mobile phones just give an extra sense
of security to the parents.

MRbrownJAY: it is also as heavy as a brick, lol....while you can get a cool looking light phone with a GPS on it.
kids of today are very conscious of such items and therefore some would rather go out without the phone, rather than be seen with such prehistoric looking phone.
i don't need the gps. if i need to know where he's @, i
call him or send a text message. a kid of 5/6 just wants
to play brick-breaker or tetris on his phone. cool

so i have to list all the 40 courses needed to attain a degree
in your discipline? you brain-farting lunatic! i said criminologists

i just love the cuteness of nokia 3310. jeez, it's very reliable, durable
and user friendly. it doesn't matter how many times he drops it on the floor,
the phone still works. it's even a turn-off to pickpockets and
robbers which means i don't have to change his phone 12 times a month.

yes! i am a businessman, i can't be around my child at all times.
while a child minder picks him up from school or takes him to school,
it's important i know how he's doing myself - from the horse's mouth!

mobile phones are here to stay. much so these days when you have
idiotic kids bringing guns to school to maim their mates.
i'd be raving mad to be kept in the dark when a cheap mobile phone
would at least assure me of my child's safety.

let him be the joke of the school. better safe than sorry.
the moment the phone comes armed with camera or the internet, then
it becomes an addiction. pornsites, happy slapping and many vices
become the order of the day.

nokia 3310 is a cute supersexy fone for any kid under 10.
if he doesn't like it, i would take him to nigeria to see
what kids of his age cope with. i believe that should
knock some common sense into his greasy head.

Well, it all depend on you sha.
a child should own a fone by age 5/6!
when he/she is at school, church or away from home, the fone can

To be honest, that only makes me human... But of late, I have been getting some creepy, and weird PMs from butt pirates and weirdos.

I received one of those funny messages this morning, and I decided to check the comments history on the SN.. Then, I came across this (SN hidden):

^^^O'boy, I fear fear for the bolded parts oooo. grin grin grin grin grin... The internet is crazy, yo... Faggitz, are now messaging people - whilst acting like a girl on their online profile...
yahoo boys are not smiling!

As soon as I saw that tosh up there, I remembered the story a guy told me last weekend about a chic he linked off the internet.. He said, when he got the chic's yard - everything was on point.. They kissed, chatted, laughed, and were basically having a nice time - until it was time to get busy... He pulled down the chic's panties, and he saw a big mandingo looking straight into his eyes lol... My doozy had to run for life looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool....

The world is a crazy place, and the internet is crazier...

PS: I'm not dissing homos, neither do I have problems trannies - but please be real when you're on the internet.. And steer clear off my SN!!!

elampiro: Your first paragraph sum it up that he wasnt playing well. I am an ardent Man United fan, and I watch all our matches. The Derby and Wigan matches you quoted above are still vivid in my memory. I say categorically that he didnt live up to the top striker Ferguson expected. Just like Berbatov, Tev may have shone in some matches, but in general he was not up to expectation. The City Derby that he scored two goals was problably one of his best matches. Again, Berbatov provided a most intelligent tele-pass that resulted in the second goal. The match against Wigan, he scored a goal when it looked like Wigan was going to create an upset, but so what? Even Federico Macheida has done more things from the bench for Man United.

If it is possible to watch all the matches, mostly the big ones, you will see that he struggled to fit in.
you're very correct. tevez was utter w@nk in his final season at united.
he threw massive strops cos fergie signed berbatov and he was being marginalised.
his return of 5 goals in 29 league appearances was the reason his contract was delayed.
then he felt unloved and moved to the other side of the city.

There are players in EVERY SQUAD ‘picking free cash weekly’ - Owen, Kuszack at United. Hargreaves, Kolo Toure collecting free money at Citeh. Chelski - Hilario, Lukaku amongst others collecting free money.

The fact is that we have a large squad numerically but we are low on quality - bringing on Dzeko and Balotelli to win a title isn’t the same as bringing on Park and Chamakh - just compare their prices.

This is the classic case of Class A eggs from Waitrose versus Class C eggs from Asda. grin

The only ‘bitter’ truth here is that our squad costs much less than Citeh’s.
