There is no temporary alleviation -- the last thing we need is more money spent on the irrelevant. If you would simply pay attention to what the problem really is here, you would be quick to figure out what the problem is, without suggesting more money be spent on TEMP solutions to a problem that should be easily solved here.
this type of reasoning is obtuse. . . .
the logical thing to do is to alleviate the traffic build-up on the road now while they think of constructing another one. how many years do you think it would take to get an alternative route? you think it can be done in few weeks? let's say it would take a year(for argument's sake), do you think lekki residents would cope with the suffering for another year? chaiiiiiii - you need to go out more and see how things are done in the developed world.

they maintain what they have whilst building another.

Again, you are speaking like someone who has absolutely no idea of the state of said roads, let alone said area back 20 years ago. Lekki was mostly swamp area . . . . any one in real estate could easily catch you up on the history of the area you now know today as Lekki, if you would at least ask.
you have spoken once again like a true ignoramus that you are.
who is arguing lekki wasn't mostly swamp area - what has that gotta do with a state governor not possessing the gift of foresight??

When Jakande built the expressway you know of today, the road got OK use but not enough for anyone to now suggest it would have made sense for him to have spent millions more in building extra lanes. Again, what sense is there in building extra lanes on a highway that got fair use simply because one thought that 20-30 years down the road, more people would show up in the area and probably make use of it? Why then have other governors engage in road construction at all??
lagos is a fast-growing state. it's a commercial nerve centre and any state governor with foresight would know the population in another 20 yrs would be double if not triple the current number of heads. everyone wants to stay in lagos - isn't that why you guys call it "centre of excellence"? he should have done more regardless. lagos expands at the speed of light. people would stay anywhere they can find a piece of land.

Mass exodus to other parts of Lagos? Really?? That is your rationale for suggesting that this should have been done 20-30 years ago? Even the movie "FIELD OF DREAMS" did not go as far as to suggest that you build 20 years before the need. ROFLMAO
build 20 yrs before the need? lekki had become overpopulated as at 10 yrs ago. that people are just complaining now is because the suffering has reached it's zenith.

That express way was built then for capacity that existed at the time, and more than 10 years down later. Nothing stopped other administrations from expanding at the need arose. So, I don't even understand why you are attempting to blame Jakande over 20 years later for not building wastefully during his time so you can absolve him of problems that have arisen in the last 10 or so years.
which is what the present administration has done and you people are still complaining because you'd rather they ignore the road and build a new one. and when this one becomes completely unmotorable, motorists would swarm on the new one and we are back to square one.
you need a year's tutorial on management. grin

The Express road was used mostly by travellers travelling through Lagos. There was definitely a need for another road, and expressway, but certainly not enough of a need for so many lanes, as you suggest today. I really think you should go do some investigating to realize what you are suggesting out to have taken place back in 1983 makes no sense at all. Foresight was building the expressway in the first place . . . adding more lanes would make sense ONLY when their is evidence that that need is necessary. In 1983 Lagos/Lekki, it would have made absolutely NO SENSE to have done that at all.
it would have made plenty of sense. i repeat plenty of sense.

how do you think the west construct express-way to the point of they rarely need extra-lanes after 20-30 yrs? it's because they project 50-80 yrs into the future and cater for what might happen in the next 50 yrs. all they do is maintenance of what they have built half-centuries ago. they don't add extra lanes every 5 yrs like we do in nigeria.

I mean do you think it would make sense for you to build a 10 storey house in 2011(a house to be occupied by just you, and maybe your spouse for the next 20 years) because you believe that in 2031, your family would have grown to occupy the remaining 9 stories?
very daft analogy
my kids would have moved out after 20 yrs to start their own lives and raise their own children in their own homes(not mine).

You guys just want something to debate sha.
There is no way any referee would have sent off either Ronaldo or Messi, under the circumstances.
He gave a card to Messi for complaining, just 5 minutes later he commits an actual bookable foul. Would you send off the world's number 1 or 2 player under those circumstances, and risk a hail of abuse from fans, press, and pundits across the globe? Like Massimo Busacca.
who gives a damn about world's number 1 status of messi. he committed a bookable offence and by the rule of the book, he should have been sent off. every player is important - pepe was sent off comically in one of those el-clasico games this year when he had a good measure of messi.  go and watch the video clip again. the man had reached for his pocket cos he knew messi committed a bookable offence after getting booked for dissent.

2 yellow card offences = 1 red card. it should not matter whether messi is the best player ever in the solar system.
if he did not commit the offence, he wouldn't have been booked.
this is exactly what the pundits on skysports were saying. messi gets preferential treatment. he's the only player allowed to spit in another man's face, use his hand to score and still get celebrated.

This same thing happens to a lot of players that nowhere near as high-profile as Messi or Ronaldo. Once you're on a yellow,  the ref usually gives some room, and finally applies the sending off much later in the game if the player doesn't let up. If Messi had gone in with some two-footed or high-studs challenge in, say, the 70th minute, do you think he would not have been sent off then?
there's no room.
2 bookable offences is 2 yellow cards = 1 red card.

i repeat, if that was ronaldo in messi's shoes at camp nou, the referee wouldn't have hesitated to send him off.
messi is the darling of the media and the officials. his grass to grace/cinderalla story draws sympathy -

ronaldo is the evil. the arrogant twit who believes the world should revolve round him.
how many times has messi been sent off in his career? how many times has ronaldo in la liga?

eyoniggar:
Sharon, as falsely intelligent as you are, I didnt blv u would come out to debate a red card for messi. The ref was top class
and did the right thing.
spoken like a true indolent twit.
you have just disgraced the recipient of your y-chromosomes.

did the right thing? the right thing?
considering the fact that 80% of the games barca have won against madrid came as a result of a man being sent off in the madrid team.

No, Jakande constructing the expressway shows that State Government can do it. Does not mean it belongs to him or to the state. This practice was not alien back in the days, and it certainly should not be made so today.
and how would constructing a new road entirely help the frustrating traffic presently on the old road? the best thing is to alleviate the problem at least temporarily for now which the government has done. people spend long-flight hours on that road transiting from office to home.

WOW . . . . I am gonna guess you were either too young to have known of the Lekki area back 20-30 years ago or you were not probably not in Lagos State at that time, because Lekki was mostly swamp area during the Jakande era, and the population of the zone was in the low hundreds. Apart from the beach(swampy, dirty beach) and the groves, and maybe the animals to see, there was not much in lekki to do or see back in those days.  grin grin grin grin
well - you guessed wrong cos i know exactly how the place was 20 yrs ago in the early 90s.
even with that, more lanes should have been constructed - it was clear then there was going to be a mass exodus to that part of lagos with the prevalent method of sand-filling those swamps in the early 90s.

all these things should not stop lagosians from dropping a token at the toll-gate!

What would have been the sense in investing millions of limited state resources in building extra lanes on a highway like that in hopes that 20 to 30 years later, it would be used?
why did they invest millions at all seeing that the area was populated by animals, dirty beaches and hamlets?
lack of foresight!

so lemme get this clear. . . .

jakande used the funds of lagos state government to construct the expressway and that means the road is his? i am tired of debating with half-baked graduates. it's a shame that people still reason like you in 2011. all those roads belong to lagos state government of which fashola is now the governor.

if jakande had any foresight, he should have factored the population increase in lagos(20 yrs ago) and added several lanes more. he did not do that and lagos has become more populated in the last 20 yrs - hence the need to run extra lanes and the need to tax motorists for using the road.

Which criticism i don't think Ʊ knw was going on that road that your fashola wants to toll was built by jakande 20 years ago your fashola added one lane to 23km of the road jakande built for free for the communities around lekki and put 3 toll gate! Mr coogar to Ʊ that's development.
you mean jakande used his own money in the bank to build 23km of road? is it jakande's private cash or that of lagos state government.
secondly, what's the population of lagos state 20 yrs ago in comparison to today?

Abi Ʊ still have not answered my question DID ACN or FASHOLA  BUILD LEKKI EPE EXPRESS RD? If they did not why add one lane and build 3 toll on a rd that was built by another man.when jakande built this Road they want to toll lagos state igr was not what it is today yet he built that road from v.I to EPE without a single toll gate!
you sure sound like an illiterate.

lagos state government provided the funds for the lekki-epe expresswy.
jakande, marwa, tinubu, fashola are just custodians. how can you tell me jakande used his own money to construct that expressway? is that what your parents told you or a pigment of your blurry imaginations?

maybe barca are better than madrid, maybe not. one thing remains clear though. . . . .if the referee had enough balls to send messi off, who knows what the outcome would have been. even mendieta and benitez agreed messi gets preferential treatment. if that was cristiano, the referee wouldn't have hesitated to send him off.

the travesty behind his decision is the fact that he actually reached for his pocket and when he realized it was messi(who's already on a yellow), the referee simply bottled it. i am aware madrid have lost several games to barca but many of them came as a result of madrid getting players sent off.
why did the ref bottle it on saturday? just why?

well, fashola hasn't been the governor of lagos state for 20 yrs - he has only been there for 4 yrs so your criticism of him is misguided.

i don't care how long it's taken them to fix another lane on the road. the difficulty they have had fixing another lane is because of the overpopulation i am talking about. they couldn't close the whole strip because then the island would be paralyzed, hence the bit by bit construction - all that is immaterial though. not how long but how well.

nigerians should stop complaining and be more responsible.
if anyone feels the tolls are unnecessary, get on a damn canoe and paddle away. it's about time motorists get taxed for the services they enjoy. i support the move. whether lcc built the road or not is immaterial. the state governor set up lcc to fix the road and tax motorists using the road. that is how it's done in developed countries.

na you get their time - you are talking to a whole bunch of illiterates/semi-illiterates.

i am 100% in support of the lekki tolling. lagos state is too congested. anyone comparing lagos state to the other states is just a tool with poop for brains. the population density in lagos is disgusting. hopefully, these toll-gates would drive the misfits out of the state so the real lagosians can enjoy the fruits of their land.

nigerians love free service without paying for the service. you want to be speeding on smooth - tarred roads and you don't want to pay for the enjoyment. go to europe and see how things are done. in the united kingdom, people are taxed to death and yet they still created the "road tax". if you are using a car and polluting the atmosphere with your fumes - you should pay tax. when these roads are damaged - the revenue generated at the toll-gate would help fix the roads. that is the purpose!

if anyone feels port-harcourt and akwa ibom are doing better, let them pack their properties and relocate there.
every american wants to live in florida, rodeo drive, hollywood - but they cannot afford it - so they stay in their suburb new orleans, arkansas and michigan.

bro, the problem here is that you are changing "your views" as you go along, now you are saying that going out all night, once in a week is "acceptable":

but this is what you had to say before:

and this is what you even said BEFORE that:

so pls, make up your mind about what your BELIEFS are and then let's discuss it but i cannot have a discussion with you if you keep changing your stance like a chameleon, lol!
you are the one choosing not to apply logic here. the premise of my argument is for fathers to stay at home and get their kids prepared for school the next day. if this father goes out once a week(saturday), his son is not going to school on sunday - so yes, he can but i'd rather he does not.
all my comments have been consistent unless you are half-blind.

"son, daddy is doing ADULT stuff, when you are much older, i will tell you about it".
what kind of irresponsible father talks about strip clubs to a child. what next? you tell him how you fukc your gfs at night?! come on bro, treat a child LIKE A CHILD!
adult stuff my white arse - what kind of a father tells his son such rubbish.
he would soon learn what his father does every weekend from a careless comment from one of his mates in school who learnt about it from his own parents. i mean, what sort of a role model are you to your son if visiting whorehouses is your hobby.

you DO know that you have to be an ADULT to go to a strip club? just like you have to be an adult to watch a porn movie or even watch horror movies, right? why would you think a FATHER would take his kid to a place where it is ILLEGAL to have a child?! pls, do make some sense bro!
of course, i never knew a child has to be 18+ to get into a strip club. i don't even know some movies are rated(pg or 18). what do i know?
we are talking about irresponsible fathers, he's talking about pg-rated movies. stop wasting my time with your needless pedantry.
if you don't have anything to say - abeg, pack it up!

when that child is an ADULT, and he wants to go to a strip club, then I (as a father) will be glad to be the first one he asks about such establishment. . . . . . . .  and probably take him there myself, rather than he goes with his dumb buddies who will have him do some stoopid stuff there.
when that child is an adult, he's now responsible for his own actions. he's now his own man.
he probably now stays alone and feeds himself. whatever happens there on are mostly his choices, etc. he's gone past his formative years where everything he passes through can affect his mentality/psyche as an adult. he won't need you to take him to strip-clubs by then.

duh, the father is in his bed, sleeping off the great night he had. as i said:
any man should decide what he wants to do in his free time and/or at night.
TO EACH THEIR OWN!
whoever said irresponsible fathers don't have a right to do whatever they want to do.
of course, he's got the rights to choose how he spends his time - but that doesn't make him responsible.

and how exactly did you deduct which of these cases is the OP's bf?

if i get married 3 times and divorce twice, have 10kids (that i can fully care for) i will be irresponsible in your world right? because the marriage didnt last, i will be irresponsible, even if we had many years of happiness, right?!
if you divorce once, you are irresponsible! if you cannot manage a home then what the feck can you manage as a man?
it simply tells me you are not a leader of men, you make bad choices and pssssssssf - whatever whatever.

btw: isnt a strip club the BEST place to NOT fall into "these women's" hand when hor.ny?
of course, strip-clubs is where morality is taught. you would find nuns, reverend sisters, etc there teaching morality. grin
you're a joke!

so what you are "assuming", again, is that: anyone seen at the pub after 11pm is unemployed?! just like you assumed that the OP's bf was a "loafer" simply because he enjoys going to clubs/strip clubs, right?
have you even asked the OP if SHE bought the tickets for her bf to come to NY/LA etc to visit her? i guess since every time she calls him he is in a club, he MUST BE a loafer, right?! (whether she calls everyday or once a week)
read with your glasses. 11am is quite different from 11pm.
the dude is a loafer - a poor excuse of a gentleman. whenever i see young men with baby-momma drama, it tells me one thing about them - irresponsible!

so when a child is asleep, in his DREAMS he picks up such attributes? bwaaah!, what else does he pick up in his dreams? i guess he also sees daddy in his "dreams" having sex with his "mother"? and starts having sex as a child, right? lol
kids wake up at nights sometimes from nightmares, needing their dads to take them to the loo, etc.
a child wakes up needing his dad to escort him to the loo and where's the dad? pissing his life away in LovePeddler-houses. the same venue mrbrownjay believes is a morality ground.

permit me - if i may. . . . . . .can a stripper stand as a witness in a law court? grin

who are you to decide what is immoral or not?! if that man wants/decides to go to a strip club to relax then LET HIM DO THAT, and if his son wants to do that (when he is old enough) then who are you to say that it is wrong? are they doing anything illegal/criminal?! stop trying to force people to live YOUR life.
because i can discern what is ethical from what isn't. that one is not doing anything illegal/criminal does not mean it's ethical.
if you cannot see the difference between ethics and crime then you are not worthy to be in a debate with me.

i ask. . . . .can a stripper stand as a witness in a court of law? of course, the judge would throw her out.
why would she be thrown out of court as a witness? after all - according to mrbrownjay, she's not doing anything illegal.

if your way of life is to stay home and watch TV  at night then fair enough, let others CHOOSE how best to spend THEIR free time, and how to raise THEIR CHILDREN!
if his way of life is working out pretty well, the original poster wouldn't have come here to complain.
you didn't figure that out in your little world, huh?

now, he is getting stoned, lol assumptions again! first he drank like a sailor till 7am EVERY night, then fukced who.res, then he is unemployed, now getting stoned. . . . . . .what's next in your fantasy tale?!
that dude is irresponsible. i don't even need to meet him to know.
i can visualize the drunk bastard as a lumbering oaf with no future ambition but to spray his seeds to any welcoming fertile soil and populate the planet with rugrats who would be raised with no father-figure in their lives and then turn out to be menace to society. the kids then get locked up and they remind everyone who cares to listen that they became criminals because poppa was never around.

we shall continue to witness the vicious cycle because mrbrownjay wants people to choose the way they want to live their lives - homosexuality, bestiality, pedophilia and other sorta sexual deviance should also be encouraged. people should be allowed to do what pleases them.
if you argue like this in public, you would be beaten up or set on fire. . . . . .or both!

apparently, sexkillz and his goons are jealous they are not scandinavians!
if someone claims to be from finland, how does that affect the weight of fish in sexkillz's pot of soup?
i am beginning to think sexkillz live a sad uninteresting life.

There is nothing to complain about the iphone except the battery issues with the 4gs, since i used my first iphone i have been addicted to it, it gives you power to do anything and above all there is an app for everything, if you need where to download any app you see on itune shop for free, drop your email and i will send you the link. what you lack is the right tools, take your time, play with google a little bit, it has all the answers you need. And trust me there is nothing silly about the Iphone, to me its the maddest smart phone ever conceived by a human mind.
even the battery issues are artificial problems - caused by the users themselves.

most users leave many apps running at the same time without bothering to close them. these things lap up the battery and then they complain.
apple now released a patch ios-5.0.1 which i think closes all apps automatically if it's not being used for a period of time. the battery performance has since improved.

1025 is bringing sexy senselessness back in style cheesy
@topic
Song defends better than Mikel, attacks better than Mikel, what is the basis for comparison? Oh i forgot, their salary! grin grin grin
alex song does not defend better than mikel - that's farcical.
if you think running after players to snap at their heels is defending then you dunno your football.

Hardunnii:
@coogar if you are to pick a draft for your team, be sincere, who will you pick btw mikel n songhuh
i will pick mikel. goddamit, i would also pick carrick, lucas and busquets over alex song.
all the players listed above are more positionally disciplined than alex song.

although, i once read that arsene wenger instructs alex song to vacate his position and join the attack.
in my opinion, that is carelessness and idiotic. you don't need to wonder why arsenal cannot win a pin.
