Again . . . LCC CEO himself, according to the report, speaks of existence of alternative routes in the FUTURE tense. Unless someone is able to provide us with verifiable facts that the report is wrong, I would rather go with the report until then.

Saying one believes what one reads on a forum is, to me, lazy-brained approach to research.
then you are a tool if you think what one reads here is a lazy-brained approach.
the difference between what people type here and what you read in the media is nothing. if lasgidi makes himself available to a drunk journalist, his comments would be printed as well.

When we had this debate last year(2010), I remember quite clearly that some of those on here SWORE HEAVEN AND HELL that Fashola had already provided alternative routes, and so the Lekki residents ought to shut the f-up! However, just some days after the thread had reached, I believe, it's 8th page, Fashola came out and announced suspension of tolls so ALTERNATIVE ROUTES CAN BE PROVIDED . . . Imagine that !!! shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked
there's a difference between alternative route and alternative routes.
if you think there's no alternative route at all - then you are not worthy to be engaged in a debate. i accept the alternative routes provided might not be enough to solve the problem 100% but to hang by the coat-tails that no route has been provided at all(bode george's heresy) is intellectual sterility.

There is no alternative to SHOPrite Ajah.

Imagine my utter shock/horror when i visited SHOPLeft (in Surulere) - Dear God!!!  shocked  shocked  shocked it was filled with Alaba and Idumota traders and some mbgueke-feeling-funky igbo girls. I could not understand why people will insult SHOPRite by wearing bathroom slippers to a super-market like it was on their street. uncouth men literary shouting at the top of their voice on their GSM trying to locate their friends within the Mall.

They close shop at 10pm. as i was leaving i saw a small crowd gathering at the door trying to get in and one ankara and lace-wearing fat woman started pleading to get inside and buy 1 pack of chewing gums -WTF!@!
that's nigeria for you with their depraved behaviour!
razz looking elements - i get scared with those armed-robber looks they carry, like they are about to attack you.

no one is saying people should wear suit to the mall but at least dress appropriately.
people who sag pants and sneakers in the west are neat about the way they carry themselves. i cannot say the same about nigerians.

i lost hope completely when i saw one man with chewing stick in one of those hyped malls in lagos.

I am gonna guess you do not know what clutching at straws means .  .

The article tells you of no such alternative routes. . .  matter of fact, as of December 11th 2011, LCC CEO speaks in FUTURE TENSE of the possibilities that could exist with alternative routes . . . That all flew over your head, didn't it??

Seriously, learn to do some real brain work on these things. People will tell you stories on Nairaland but you have to at least be willing to do your homework to ascertain the truth of what you read.  grin grin grin grin grin grin grin
i would believe nairalanders before i believe any news media in nigeria.

somebody just said he uses alternative roads to get to his place of work. why would i ignore his comment and believe a condemned criminal like bode george? bode george is a man with hidden agenda - he would say anything to make himself the 21st century nelson mandela. i don't have a problem with him leading the protests but to say there are no alternative route is a disgrace.

The winning goal Lampard was involved from the beginning to the end.

The Pass to Sturridge that led to the foul and the penalty itself.

While Fernando was looking for people who would speak Spanish to him

Well Arsenal now has Henrys status in from of Emirates, Chelsea has Torres statue on the bench.

Let him keep the shape from there.
which idiotic winning goal is that? lampard strolls for 10 mins and he copped a penalty and the victory is down to him?
conveniently forgetting the poof missed a penalty against newcastle?

i am sure lampard also played a part in the equaliser.
his spirit entered meireles.

you have dodged my question.
has torres scored for chelsea before in a game fat frank was missing? goals from open play - not awoof goals like scoring from 12 yards from a free shot on goal.

I work in Lekki Phase 1; I drive to and from this road every day. Since LCC has announced the tolling commencement date, I have cultivated the habit of using the alternative routes in the morning. I make my turning just by the Four Point junction through Oba Yesufu Abiodun Oniru by the City of David Church, I just turn to the left to T. F. Kuboye Road and hit the popular Market road to link the-Eti Osa-Lekki-Epe Expressway. I’ll just make my U-Turn at the newly constructed Round about pronto am right inside Lekki Phase 1. No toll payment… so what is the fuss all about?

When do we move forward if we stifle development project with protests? Last year we all requested for alternative routes which they have provided, so what else? If you don’t want to pay just branch out at the ‘Four Point Junction” Guys, we may as well just bid farewell to other investors bring their money to invest in infrastructure. I blame the Lagos State government too, they need to explain this thing clearly to people so that those who have their own personal agenda dont come out and misinform the public as we are witnessing now. I learnt Bode George is the man to lead the protest march being planned for Sunday 18, December. What nonsense!

Check out this : Fast Facts about China Roads…
• China’s expressway network of 65,000 kilometers (40,389 miles) is the second largest in the world, next only to the U.S.
• By 2020 the government plans to reach three million kilometers (1.86 million miles) of expressways and highways, up from two million kilometers (1.24 million miles) in 2008.
• China houses more toll roads than any other country, with Chinese toll roads representing more than 70% of the world’s total toll roads.
• The government finances the majority of the road projects through its own budget and debt, while the private sector plays a limited role.
• The toll road sector was one of the three most profitable businesses in China for 2009, along with real estate and finance.

What has this got to do with Mata's position? Are you saying Silva struggled or he struggled in comparison with Mata?
silva struggled last season and he has also struggled in comparison with mata.

this is mata's debut and he's ripping this league apart.
in last night's game - he outplayed silva in leaps n bounds.

@coogar you will notice I did not make any remarks about you?
try and deal with the issues without  referencing me. You are not really in a position to comment on my intelligence or lack of it.
like i said we don't agree on the facts.
i know Lagos VERY well particularly ALL those parts that are considered Ijebu land. There have been armed robberies in Ikorodu pretty much every day and a younger  area  "brother" was gunned down last week.
Our experience of security is different.
like i said - you cannot completely eradicate crime.

Yes as far as concessioning goes THE PUBLIC have a right to ask how much the company is making i.e cost basis vis a vis justification for the levy since it involves mandatory fees on public infrastructure.
as voters/tax payers people have a right to ask
What is the COST of the works that are being claimed and does this justify the arrangements entered into.
Personally i do NOT know and take no position BUT the government needs to open up
i am sure the information would be provided at the secretariat!
you guys should go to alausa and demand for this info. fashola is not an illiterate. why do you guys think he's become a rogue all of a sudden?

In fact if the freedom of information act was functioning like it should we would know everything about this deal.
there are people who are AUTOCHTHONS in that area and I do not see why they should pay a premium for living in there homesteads.
hehe - lekki is a highbrow area.
i want to live in kessington gardens or hyde park as well. . . .but i cannot afford it.
the people living in that part of london pay congestion charge everyday - they do not complain!

If the Idea is a premium area charge, this should entail premium services which the government does NOT provide in Lekki. The government should come out and say they have such a policy and we can debate its lawfulness and evenness of application.
so far what i see are ad-hoc explanations for what is a scheme that has been poorly conceived and communicated.
but i have been told the security in that area is much better on the mainland, no?
the roads are better, the basic amenities are better. the only parts of lagos with street lights, etc.

security when it exists may not be noticed this is true. Insecurity is a different thing entirely. People know when they are under threat.
but this is a question of factual accuracy  and so not  one we shall agree on.
my experience has been that there is general insecurity in Nigeria and not Lagos alone.
The evidence for this is the rise in the reported gun crimes everywhere. as such I do not localize this to lagos but I do not see any grounds for Fashola to claim success in this regard.
I note that you quote some figures where do they come from why not share them with us.
and let us analyse them. at best it is disingenuous to quote unattributed figures without context.
don't join the bandwagon of tools on this thread. you are actually more intelligent than the post above.
no state or country is 100% crime free. no government can guarantee you that. the best is to reduce it to the barest minimum and from my experience the last time i went to lagos - the security in lagos improved immensely. i cannot remember the last time there was a siege by armed robbers in any area in lagos. in fact, the general idea is most of them have relocated to the neighbouring states because of the superior firepower of the law enforcers in lagos.

leaving security to one side
my point is a very simple one Fashola's government has made some progress compared to what came before but he could do a lot better .
oh. . . .so you admit fashola's government has made some progress?
wow - look around nigeria. which other state governor in the other 35 states can you compare to fashola?

first in furthering what was Tinubu's initiative they have changed the revenue generating profile of the state and that is to be commended. But there is evidence they are losing focus. There are very strong signs of corruption, autocracy and a derailment of democracy.rather than try to defend the indefensible they should engage with the electorate and demonstrate that they respect them and view them as their masters NOT the other way round.
you cannot please everyone. what you have just said is impracticable. look around the world - even the developed countries. do you agree with everything david cameron is doing? even under labour, did you agree with every of their policies? things don't just work that way.  if you respect the electorate too much, they would just sit at home and expect to be paid for doing nothing.

nigerians and especially lagosians would take advantage of that. if you agree fashola's government has made progress, you should trust him enough to make further progress and his decision to put toll plazas on those roads should be respected.

Services must be paid for. true
BUT this is a relatively VERY SMALL PROJECT
and WHO IS GETTING PAID ? from all indications NOT the government.
why is it that in the whole of lagos state this was the ONLY project chosen for this NOT even the Badagry expressway a very laudable project has TOLLING
a project is a project - small or big. the size is immaterial.
i am assuming you stay in birmingham. you are conversant with the way things work in the united kingdom. can you name any basic amenity you do not pay a premium for? look at your utilities to start with - why are your wages taxed and you still pay for council tax? then road tax and then tv license. if the people here have been complaining like nigerians do - would this country work? the people of the state have the state's destiny in their hands. if they all contribute their quota to make it work. . . .the state would work. if they do otherwise. . . then we know what the outcome would be.

why was the community not engaged with on this initiative
why is the government not buildin this road
who are this company
HOW MUCH MONEY WILL THIS COMPANY MAKE
when dealing with the public you
MUST BE TRANSPARENT
why three toll gates
we are not talking about a Julius Berger quality job from all indications
in fact those (THE COMPANY) collecting the toll have no track record and were set up solely for this project
I do not live in LEKKI but those affected have articulated a very good case and
the government are stranded for words
i am very embarassed for the government because I have always supported them on this forum
THIS STINKS
how much money will the company make? has it really come to that?
who asked lcc how much money they spent providing that extra lane and the 2 roads they paved? grin grin grin

but now, you want to ask them how much they are going to be making??

let them keep asking. i am done with the people on this thread.

what baffles me is that these morons pay premium with smiles when they are asked to pay abroad. but the moment their own people ask them to pay, they frown their faces, they curse out loudly and they protest. when british airways tax an average nigerian £600 to fly, nigerians pay with prostrating for the white man. when lcc tax them £1 to pay on a paved lane, they come out snapping and cussing they cannot pay.

they have no difficulty paying to develop a white man's country but they are ready to die to stop their own country from developing.

And what can we deduce from the posts you quoted ?
we can deduce that your reasoning is too vacuous to explain simple statistics.
you couldn't see mata has performed better than lampard and silva until i analysed his performance per minute.

and yet, you had the chutzpah to beat nateevs with the same stick when we all know dayokanu is intellectually sterile himself.

i will also address your spastic conclusion that torres should be benched.
hell no, torres shouldn't be benched. lampard should be benched. chelsea's midfield coped well tonight without lampard and any of the chelsea's strikers would have also have led the line effectively.

In the United Kingdom owners are required to pay Vehicle Excise Duty, commonly known as "car tax", "vehicle tax" or "road tax", which is paid to the government for a vehicle licence, which must be displayed on most motor vehicles used on public roads.[7] Since 1937 there has been no direct relationship between the tax and government expenditure on public roads. The registered keeper of a vehicle that is not used or kept on public roads must complete a Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN).[8]

you should be getting paid for educating stark illiterates like djustice!

Let me ask you this, you blithering eediort: Do you pay vehicle license fees annually in the UK, or Road Tax? Just because the nomenclature is different over here, you cannot wrap your mono-cellular brain around the fact that they are one and the same, just differently named?
i can see you are intellectually sterile. and yet the social reprobate argues further that vehicle license is the same as road tax!
i would let you stew in your ignorance before i tell you difference.

Your ability to insult is quite quaint, actually. I've met tramps who can do better than you. From your language, you've really taken well to English climes. Don't worry, they'll soon wake up to the kind of beast of no nation you really are and kick you out of their country.
this vagrant is intellectually-challenged.
so this is what you can come up with? you meet tramps?
you are a boil on the arse of humanity.

If you weren't so envious of Lekki residents, why would you want us to pay tolls and no other residents of Lagos, and come out with unintelligent statements, all drooling with saliva, like "Lekki is where 90% of the wealthiest Lagosians live, so they must pay tolls". The ones that live in VI and Ikoyi nko? They have two heads, abi?
your attention span is shorter than a congolese midget.
read clearly with your blood-shot eyes now and check if ikoyi wasn't mentioned as the area affected.
do you even read before you post or you are just too eager to exude your brain-farts.
what a simpleton!

Look, you this fuc-k-faced baboon, get on with your slave life, and leave us who you come and pick up at Heathrow in your illegal taxi to deal with matters above your station.
matters above my station and yet you have not contributed any meaningful contribution on this topic apart from rabid barks and hollow soundbite.

You think everyone here is like you, going to queue quietly for your salary at the end of the month? We're high rollers around here, and we pay our taxes. Big time. We just don't think it's fair that we should get nothing for our huge taxes and still get asked to pay for driving on a road that we already paid for. If you're that silly, we're not.
high-rollers don't complain when taxed. this proves you are probably a worker of menial jobs in lekki environs.
probably a security guard or a washman trying to prove unfounded wealth.

in that vein, you have absolutely nothing of value to add to the discussion except ad hominem sniping.

Your stupidity is sometimes amusing. The toll plaza is here in Lekki, you're telling us to go and do aluta at Alausa. What kind of people do you take us for? Let those who want to collect the tolls protest here in Lekki when we don't pay, because that's the worst they can do. They can't arrest anyone, or assault anyone, for asserting their right to freedom of movement, especially when such person is a taxpayer.
go and protest to the state governor - the commander of the state government. the local government did not make this decision. the state governor did. go and protest where you would be heard and seen. that's not too much to ask from a coward like you. look at him talking as if he's relevant in lagos state. a simple investigation would soon reveal him as a common houseboy using the computer of his master.

Nobody has bought their silly tags yet, and nobody will. No one, I repeat, no one, will pay any tolls on that road. Let them come and arrest every Lekki resident if they can. If they touch just one person, they will know that khaki and leather are not the same material. Tolls ko, kpos ni!
hypocritical fuckwit!
all you can do is bark without biting. you would pay at the poll and there's nothing you or any of your ancestors can do about it.
if lekki is too hot for you to stay, go back to your village. lagos state in it's entirety would be very happy to lose you and your deranged ideas.
we actually need citizens who contribute their quota to beautify lagos state not tight-fisted bastardos like yourself who would not recognize state governance if pasted on your face!

mata has shown he's the new midfield general.  telling me there's no competition from any of your midfielders is telling porkies.

against newcastle

mata: 37/38 pass completion( shocked shocked shocked shocked), 3 scoring attempts, 4 attempts created, 1 goal assist in 75 mins.
lamps: 28/37 pass completion, 2 scoring attempts, 1 attempt created, 0 assist in 61 minutes.

i accept mata played more minutes to have created more scoring attempts, etc but did you see that passing statistics?
is mata xavi in disguise? shocked shocked shocked shocked
---------------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------------
this season so far. . . . .

juan mata: 3 goals, 7 assists, 28 key passes, 485/564 pass completion, 869 minutes
frank lamps: 6 goals, 4 assists, 26 key passes, 629/745 pass completion, 1026 minutes
david silva: 4 goals, 8 assists, 33 key passes, 716/817 pass completion, 1095 minutes.

ibime, numbers don't lie. . . . . .there's a new midfield general in the land, he's called juan mata!
the much talked about silva and lampard are sheriffs! grin
dayokanu:
Based on this stats I wont call Mata the best?

Scorer/Assist point?

Even Pass completion doesnt show he is better than those you compared him to?

According to this stat you posted, On what basis statistically is Mata better than Lampard or Silva?
coogar:
he's scored or assisted more goals in less minutes than his counterparts, yes or no?
in spite of him being played out of position, mata scores/assists a goal per 86.9 mins.
the others do the same task after 90 mins.

for a player shifted in the wide position of the pitch, he is actually delivering more than what's humanly possible.
yesterday against the toon army, he clocked 37 accurate passes in 38 attempted. only xavi can match that.

like i said earlier, mata scores/assists a goal per 86.9 mins.
silva completes the same task in 91.25 mins
lampard completes the same task in 102.6 mins

mata delivers a key pass in every 31 mins
lamps delivers a key pass in every 39.5 mins
silva delivers a key pass in every 33 mins.

there's a new midfield general in town - juan mata!
dayokanu, i hope i have been able to cure your selective monthly amnesia. grin cheesy
you homoerotic nazi!

I apologise to all half-wits everywhere. You're way worse than a half-wit. If the exposure you refer to is the type that makes you type the asinine crap you're posting up here as reasoned opinion, then you can keep it, thanks. Homo-Intimate is another word you've just learnt, abi? You keep that sh1t in your equity dead-end, and if your bastard boss doesn't cuff me when I don't pay, you come and do it yourself, you sodding special needs person.
i am sure i have seen more intelligent silverback apes @ chester zoo. any tool that can open his mouth and say road-tax is the same as vehicle license should be put against the wall and shot dead. i really don't blame you - i blame the recipient of your y-chromosomes for not using it as listerine. you indolent twit.

We know your type. That envy with which you're looking at those of us living in Lekki is what will eventually kill you. We didn't get rich by being lazy spongers like you, looking to sponge off our wealth with the prison gates you've built. This rubbish you're typing here is just making matters worse. You're simply pissing us off, and you and your bosses don't want us properly pissed off, trust me.
you and lekki can go f@ck yourselves.  who gives a damn about what you do @ flood-ridden lekki?
may amadioha kindly impregnate you with a dozen albino midgets.
stark illiterate! road tax = vehicle license. grin grin grin

When the wahala starts, we will not stop until we've kicked you all out of Lagos and recovered ALL the money and resources you've stolen from us. I used to pity Fashola. No more. He's now the enemy, and it's a fight to the finish. Awon were akotileta omo.
you are barking on the internet. go to alausa and protest. obnoxious coward!
if there's anything resembling hell in the after life, i have no doubt you'd be sucking satan's scrotum while being fisted by goblins.

Anything just to stay on the forum and argue.

At this point, it's obvious he's trying to hook up with me.  grin grin
dayokanu is a charlatan. . . .

barely few days ago, he disputed this same topic with me that the stats i provided did not show mata is any better than silva/lampard.
now, he's using his goofs to beat you with a stick.
how spastic can dayo get on this thread, eh?

pay no attention to him. you have been vindicated.
villas-boas' tactics are working. it's down to the players to take their chances and beat big teams.
nice to see sturridge was less selfish today. he played for the team tonight like he should have done in the games chelsea lost @ stamford bridge!

He who said you're not in touch with reality was spot-on. You're living in cloud-cuckoo land, and your logic is just, well, spastic, since you first used the word.

You really are a buffoon for defining our "contributing our quota" as paying our hard-earned money to your drug-addled, frog-eyed god. Instead of sitting in the negative equity heaven you're in now, why don't you come to Lekki and come and spew this rubbish to our faces. Oloriburuku.
since i dunno what that means. . . . . .i'll simply redirect it back to the all the folks older than you in your family tree.
let each member get 3 folds of those words, you obnoxious swine!

What kind of a half-wit is this one? Were so pa e ri ni? Do you not realise that the annual "vehicle licence fees" we pay in Nigeria amounts to a road tax? How many brain cells do you have left, having lost the rest to the Fashola and Tinubu fecal matter you keep sucking into that vacant skull of yours?
you are a disgrace to the recipient of your y-chromosomes.
annual vehicle license fees is not road tax, you slowpoke! i see you need exposure, you homoerotic nuisance!
don't pay and get cuffed - you spastic donkey!

POTUT:
@coogar,

Again, how removed you are from reality? How does Lekki/Eti-Osa represent the elite in Lagos? You can only handpick Ikoyi, VGC, NICON/Chevron Employees Estate and Northern Foreshore (in which for every occupied property, there are at least 2 empty ones) as the residents of the elite. Contrast that with the hundreds of smaller estates populated by everyday lagosians in Ajah and beyond. I live in Ajah and I pay 500k p/a for a normal 3 bedroom apartment. I am not elite by those standards and you will find thousands of households like mine all over this place. We come out for monthly estate meetings so we know ourselves.

Update yourself, it will only cost you regular communication with anyone you left back here.
the residents of this area is where you would find 90% of the richest people in lagos.
of course, you guys should be paying more taxes!

get on with it and stop complaining.
if you cannot cope, relocate to another part in lagos.
