Akame ga kill is one of the worst anime I've ever watched. It's like a 13 year old wrote it. The characters pissed me off, the story was weak, the villains were stupid, the deaths were predictable. Worst of all, it tried way too hard to be edgy but rather than being shocking or disturbing it was just cringe inducing.

Started it in December, stopped at chapter five. The first chapter was amazing but the follow-up chapters were kind of bland in my opinion. I haven't picked it up since this year started. It just got old quick in my opinion.

That first chapter was pretty great, though. Maybe I should give it another chance.

There are a lot of people out there who look down on anime or anything animated as 'childish', so I just expect fans of anime to know better. No entertainment medium is inherently better than another.

You're acting like all anime are on Attack on Titan level or something when the truth is that majority of them are pretty mediocre. You realize that anime like Taboo Tattoo, Mahouka, Shomin Sample, and Ladies vs Butlers exist, right? Those are god-awful, sh!t-tier anime and there are a lot more like that.

I'm a huge anime fan but let's not fall into elitism when shows like Black Clover and Sword Art Online are huge hits in our community.

Archer, Rick & Morty, Last Airbender, Samurai Jack, Bojack Horseman, The Maxx, Aeon Flux, Daria, South Park, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, to name a few, are cartoons that are just as entertaining as most anime you can find. I know that personal tastes differ and all but to stand and declare that anime is better than western animation and that none of them can contend with anime is narrow-minded as hell.

The location argument doesn't really stand these days. Anime doesn't have to be made in Japan or by a Japanese company or have initial Japanese VA to be considered anime. Castlevania is anime without argument. This is the first time I'm seeing anyone imply that Castlevania isn't anime.

I would recommend Oyasumi punpun (goodnight punpun). A beautifully drawn manga with a well written story.
This thing left me feeling empty and depressed for three days after finishing it. One of the most relatable characters and realest world I've ever read. Drama and romance were never my thing and still aren't only God knows why I continued reading this, but Damn that art looks good.
I wonder if this will ever get an anime adaptation.

Reeeeeee. I downloaded all the chapters off Anidl on a whim one day, just waiting for the holidays to read it. Would it really crush my soul or is it all hype?

Castlevania was animated by Frederator studios in American. Also, the original dub is in English. So, not an anime.

RWBY was created by Monty Oum (press F to pay respects) in America before it was picked up by RoosterTeeth (also in America). The original dub is in English so it's not an anime. However, it does have a manga, meaning it would be fair game for discussion in anime circles.

Chinese anime are just that: Chinese anime. Nobody talks about anime and thinks about a Chinese one.

However, I believe that they are part of the family, along with South Korean animation, Hong Kong animation, manhua, manhwa, webtoons and the like. Simply because, if they can't be discussed in anime circles, where would they be discussed? Western animation, on the other hand have plenty of spaces for discussion so I don't see why anime spaces have to be one of them.

What really qualifies an animated show to be called anime? The Japanese no longer have a monopoly on that art style. A lot of mainstream anime these days are made by non-Japanese studios.

They may not be animated by Japanese studios but that's just usually Japanese studios outsourcing animation to chapter talent in South Korea or so. Key animation, direction, and production are still done by Japanese talent. The VAs are Japanese, the original dub is done in Japanese.

Devilman Crybaby for example, was produced by Netflix but animation, dubbing, direction, etc were done by the Japanese studio. Netflix only holds the exclusive license for a couple of years. Afterwards, the Japanese studio controls the work.

Last Airbender, The Boondocks, etc were animated in South Korean studios but the direction, production, and original dub were done in America. Making them cartoons.

1. I concede that he acted idiotic here, but that was caused by his desire to help Emilia becoming distorted until it was bordering on obsession. In all the horrible things he suffered, his desire to help her was the lifeline he held on to. That is why he followed her, picked fights with people and generally made an ass of himself.

2 & 3. Well that's the nature of the premise. Going back in time repeatedly gives us, the viewers the real scope of his goal to protect Emilia. I'm not going to lie, the writing wasn't perfect, the story seemed to drag at some points, and the pacing was all over the place.

For the sake of this argument, let's assume you are 100% correct in your assertion that human evolution was tampered with by imperfect beings of higher intellect that also happen to look like us (although it is highly improbable that these creatures would look like primates). This still only proves the existence of highly advanced extraterrestrial life forms, still comfortably within the scope of the assertions that strong atheists make.

You are projecting claims on atheism that it doesn't make. The strongest atheist will only claim that God doesn't exist. God, in this case is an omnipotent, omniscient, conscious being that also serves as the creator of the universe.

To be fair on Subaru his story is a more realistic approach on the psychological effects of suffering and dying repeatedly. Remember that apart from his 'return by death', he's basically just a normal 17 year old guy in world of mages, knights, fairies, demons, and traps. So its only right for him to get fvcked up.

I mean, soldiers who fight in wars get PTSD from watching their friends die. Subaru, who didn't sign up for any of this, gets repeatedly disemboweled, tortured and bludgeoned to death by a friend, frozen, decapitated, commits suicide, gets mind-controlled, repeatedly humiliated, and gets his ear licked by a trap.
I think the boy deserves a break sometimes.
