Kaycee7: Like, what was the point of having him point to Roman after the Rumble win? This whole situation is just very messy.
Only WWE can take something you were very excited to see and then turn it into a disappointment. Yes, we've been wanting Roman vs The Rock for a while now but not like this They made Cody Rhodes look like an absolute cuck. He won two Rumbles back-to-back after talking about how he wanted to get his dad's belt back and finish the story for two years. Only to not main event Wrestlemania and give his spot to The Rock while looking like he was about to have a breakdown at any moment. This has to be a work. |

Debroslink: "I'm more CM Punk than you" ___ Cody Rhodes
Everything CM Punk said years ago is playing again right before our eyes. Seth Rollins, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be, I want you to listen to me. I want you to digest this because before I leave in 3 weeks with your WWE Championship, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest. I don’t hate you, Seth. I don’t even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most people in the back. I hate this idea that you’re the best. Because you’re not. I’m the best. I’m the best in the world. There’s one thing you’re better at than I am and that’s kissing Paul Levesque’s ass. You’re as good as kissing Paul's ass as Adam Cole was. I don’t know if you’re as good as Dwayne though. He’s a pretty good ass kisser. Always was and still is. Whoops! I’m breaking the fourth wall! [Cody waves to the camera] |

Kaycee7: Would've actually watched more anime in my Uni days if someone had informed me that I wouldn't have such free time on my hands again for a long, long time. Instead I ended up building quite the backlog. In fairness, my backlog doubled when I got into drama, romcom, slice of life and CGDCT and that wasn't until around my final year. Fr. There's no time to watch anything anymore and I live pretty far away from work, so by the time I get back from the office there just isn't any good time slot to watch anime. I follow a lot of manga, though. However, I don't necessarily read stuff that are in the conversation, so I tend to fall behind. Ngl, when I went for that convention back in December, I sometimes felt like a dinosaur. Like one time when I was taking about good female villains and I mentioned Ragyo and Medusa, the folks I was talking to were like "huh?". I also remember comparing Chainsaw Man to Fire Punch and then not knowing Fire Punch. One day I will go on leave and I'll binge the f**k out of my backlog |

Kaycee7: We used to spend time at this friend of ours house cos they were one of the few who had cable on our street. We'd watch a lot of cartoons, obviously. Among them were titles like Dragonball Z, Samurai X, Sailor Moon and Pokemon to name a few. We were all most familiar with Pokemon cos even the local channels showed it. Caught what would later become my favorite Ghibli movie and one of my favorite movies of all time on ETv (Enugu Television), Princess Mononoke. There must have been a small weeb infiltration in Nigerian broadcasting at some point in the 90s because they really seemed to like pushing their favourite anime on us. I still vividly remember them showing Space Brothers on AIT sometime in 2017! Kaycee7: My first encounter with sub was when another friend got a copy of the late great Satoshi Kon's Tokyo Godfathers. Of course, we were way too young to appreciate such greatness and since there was no fighting action like we were used to, we basically just let it play in the background. Every now and then, I'd follow the subtitles, being the bookworm I was. One line from the movie even stuck with me. Hana's "Shit I'll take but fart is where I draw the line" Pre-teen me thought that was hilarious. Adult me still does. Lucky you, getting to watch Tokyo Godfathers at such a young age. You were spoiled at a young age and didn't even realise it. Kaycee7: Fast forward years later, after the end of Avatar the Last Airbender, everyone was getting into this new cartoon called Naruto. Took a while getting into it but once I did, and coinciding with my new access to mobile internet, I'd discover an online fanbase and learn that these Japanese-speaking cartoons and even the English-dubbed once I'd previously watched were actually called anime. From there I'd go on to discover many other shows and, once my action series phase was over, delve deeper into anime and the anime community. And here we are today and I don't see an end to this relationship in sight. This is where my anime journey took a huge detour. You see, my parents had gotten the idea that cable tv was making our grades suffer (tbf they may have been right), so they took away our TV privileges while the school session was on. I basically missed out on the entire Last Airbender gravy train which was another low-key gateway into the anime world fir a lot of people. Even worse, some kids were already talking about Naruto that point and comparing it with Last Airbender and I couldn't contribute. I survived on webcomics and sheer will power until 2013 when I bought my first Bleach DVD. Moving forward, the BlackBerry internet subscription and getting into the university were also huge turning points in my anime journey. At my best, I could consume a one -cour season in a single day. |

I never stood a chance. When I was still a little kid, my brother used to tell me all about these kick-ass action shows that were better than everything currently on TV that he used to watch on Channels (or was AIT?) as a kid back in the 1990s. He knew Samurai X (Rurouni Kenshin for the cultured) by name and could give a rundown of the story but we would later discover the other one must have Fistt of the North Star.
When DSTV became a thing in Nigeria back in the late 1990s, apparently they used to show Dragon Ball Z and Tenchi Muyo on Cartoon Network's Toonami block. I don't remember anything about the Toonami block but my older bro loved DBZ so much that we even had figures and cards growing up.
I have faint memories of Digimon which aired on KTV and I remember the dope-ass opening theme but I could only identify Guilmon at the time. However, I popped my anime cherry on the most unlikely series...
Mew Mew Power (Tokyo Mew Mew for the cultured) was the first anime I actually remember watching. It aired on KTV in 2004 and I watched it and now look at me decades later still gushing over magical girls (pun intended).
The moral of this story is:protect your kids. For me, it was over before it even started because I watched the pretty japanese cartoons and now I've been condemned to a life of weebdom, never to integrate into normie society.
What was your first foray into the anime/manga world? |

Baddestguyp: There are some good stories in manhwas. Many Korean movies/series are based off them. Of course. Bastard, Sweet Home, Shotgun Boy, The Horizon, White Angels Have no Wings, the list goes on and on. Baddestguyp: The issue is that these action adventure/fantasy ones are usually all mid. They are just power fantasies that anyone who cares about plot will disregard. That's why I don't read them.
A close friend of mine saw 3 episodes of Solo Levelling, he didn't like it so he checked the manhwa further.
Man told me that he deleted his entire Solo Levelling folder cos he realized it wasn't worth his time.
And me too I'm not hearing good things about the manhwa. It's like fans just like it cos it's an OP cool MC who makes cool phrases and shows off power stronger than anyone else The worst part is some of them start of really well. For example, Solo Levelling had a strong start. Lookism had a strong start. Quest Supremacy was I treating and funny enough at first. At the end of the day, they all descend into midness. Basically, if you've read one of these let fantasies, you've read them all. And tbh I don't even want to read one. |
TV/Movies › Re: Thread For Anime Lovers (NO HENTAI PLEASE) by CoolUsername: 6:48am On Jan 29, 2024 |
Baddestguyp: And yet it has been mid so far... I'm yet to see the hype...
So far it feels like a generic isekai with video game elements (except the transportation part)
I mean, 4 episodes in and all I've seen is some fights in some dungeons...barely any world building apart from bits and crumbs in episode 1...
No interesting character so far...
But I'm supposed to be excited about the next Fox or Snake monster he fights in a random dungeon? That's basically the average manhwa action adventure in a nutshell. Imagine expecting characterisation, character development, world-building, and a satisfying conclusion from manhwa. |

EmmanuelIKUWA: I think I like something with action and thriller Peaky blinder, money heist, prison break and breaking bad are basically the type of series I enjoy, sometimes I go with comedy like everybody hates Chris, young sheldon For me movies apart from film series are just too short AoT: Starts off as an action thriller but slowly develops into grandiose military action adventure. Cyberpunk Edgerunners: Edge of your seat stuff that keeps you on the engaged from the beginning to the end. Lot's of futuristic action. Death Note: Light on the action but an exciting psychological thriller nonetheless. And to buttress what Kaycee7 recommended Black Lagoon: Since you seem to like your protagonists on the wrong side of the law. As for comedy, Japanese humour is quite different from American humour but if you like Young Sheldon, you may like The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. |

UnOrdinary becomes the first Webtoon on Webtoons to surpass 1 billion views.
This may sound weird but the creator of UnOrdinary, Uru-chan mins of reminds of Tite Kubo in the sense that they both created popular long-running series, they both got criticised for poor pacing while working themselves halfway to death on their stories.
If UnOrdinary ever gets adapted, I hope they series can fix the pacing issues and give it the love that it deserves like Bleach TYBW |

ValeeLove: The Catalyst of Professional Wrestling.
Before there was Jay White, there was CM Punk. A man who didn't look the part, started from little Indy feds wrestling in bingo halls to becoming a stepping stone for big names who would emanate from promotions like Ring of Honour, to exploding in popularity in the biggest Sports Entertainment company in the world. A man who never took short cuts, had road blocks placed on his path, was looked down on, vilified and hated; all to later end up earning the respect of his peers, past and future stars of the business. Let's talk about the catalyst of professional wrestling. CM Punk came into a hostile business, not favorable to his kind and made to look impossible to succeed in for someone with a background like him. But from the Indies, to Ring of Honour, to OVW, to ECW and then to the main roster of the WWE, CM Punk - while following Rowdy Piper - carved his path to success to be a multiple time World champion. His reign as the WWE champion is where the critical season in his career came. Punk was to go one on one with the company's favorite John Cena for the WWE championship at Punk's hometown in Chicago Illinois. Punk had never won the gold and seeing the direction of the championship match going unfavorable to him, he decided to have an "I don't care anymore" moment - it didn't matter to him because according to him he had decided to leave the company after the match. What he did would change the course of wrestling forever. It wasn't a 5 star match, it was a '5 star' promo. It was mic work. It was a shoot promo. Punk bared all his frustrations to the fans in front of a live camera. He talked down on the company for the descrepancies he had faced and gone through as a result of them. He talked down on the fans, multiple stars, and the boss. He dared mention old names of the company that no one else could have the guts to utter; from Paul Heyman to Brock Lesnar, the external wrestling companies weren't spared either. To top it up, he did it cross-legged on the entrance ramp, wearing a 'Stone Cold' T-shirt. And that point, Punk was the man, while Cena was in the ring recovering from a spear move to a table. ... This seems interesting and I would like to see where it's going. However, I'm fairly certain that the pipebomb was a work. Yes, there was some bad blood but I don't believe Vince McMahon would've let a wrestler go off script so long on his live broadcast. |
