Crime / The Evil Pond Of Du: A Postscript By Aliyu Tilde by coolxpat(m): 3:17am On Oct 09, 2018
Plateau State represents the quintessential reason why people like me dismiss state police as a recipe for grievous disaster. If the ongoing injustice in the state will continue with the complicity of federal government's instruments of coercion, what will be the fate of Muslim citizens of the state when the 100% Christian dominated "Operation Rainbow" is transformed into a police force?

The killing of General Alkali has raised the cases of other victims that were earlier swept under the carpet by the plateau State Government and the JTF. One of them was the case of a land dealer, Alhaji Lawal Isa and his friend Dantani which I published in 2015. Umar, Lawal's driver who appeared in the story, died later from the head injuries he sustained in the attack.

May God shower his mercy on the souls of Alhaji Lawal, Dantani, General Alkali and other victims of the violence. May God also restore peace on the Plateau. And may our leaders awaken to their responsibility.

A week ago, Alhaji Lawal's car was found in the same pond where the car of Maj. Gen. Alkali was discovered recently. The STF, which turned away relatives of the victim five years ago, has re-opened the case. Some arrests, as was done in 2015, are reportedly made.

But I am not ready to squander my hopes. I have witnessed so much injustice on the Plateau that no government has addressed or is willing to address so far. A victim whose 70 cows were carted away to Fan district by Berom militia in 2015 had even the opportunity to discuss the matter with the present President after the location of the cattle became known. The latter promised to do something about it and the Plateau problem generally. Nothing followed.

--------------------

THE KILLING OF ALHAJI LAWAL ISA IS A CHALLENGE TO THE GBONG GWOM JOS

It was late afternoon last Thursday when Alhaji Lawal Isa, a renowned land dealer in Jos and its environs, received a call at his home in Tilden Fulani, where he relocated to with his family as a result of the Jos crises. The call was from the ward head (maiunguwa) of Lakwanjet village, Mr. Dara Chuwan Nyam. The two have known each other for decades.

Mr. Nyam called Lawal in connection to a land at the Rayfield area of Jos which the latter acquired and properly documented long ago. I remember the land because Alhaji Lawal told me about it three years ago when I appointed him my agent on the plots I carved out of my inheritance. Mr. Nyam, in one version, asked him to come over because buyers have come. In another, Lawal was intimated by Nyam to come and claim his cheque for the compensation of the land through which a public road is designed to traverse.

Whatever was the reason behind the call, Lawal immediately left Tilde along with his driver, Umar. On reaching Jos, he picked a friend of his named Dantani and headed towards Rayfield.

On arrival, they met Mr. Nyam waiting for them. No sooner than they started discussing, four Berom youths arrived on two motorcycles and straight away descended on the driver who was standing aside. Lawal was surprised and turned his attention to the assailants. “He is my boy. Why are you beating him?” he inquired. The assailants now left the driver and turned their ferocity on Lawal and his friend.

The driver immediately realized the danger and fled to a nearby hill. From there, he said, he watched the four drag Alhaji Lawal and Dantani toward a valley. That was the last he knew about them. The driver remained on the hill where he was hiding until dusk. When there was sufficient darkness to cover him, he sneaked away to Bukuru where he complained to the STF.

The STF referred Umar to the police station. The police were not more enthusiastic than the soldiers. They did not go to the site until the following morning, Friday. As they left, the terrified Umar was advised to remain at the station lest his presence at the scene worsens the situation.

The police could not trace the bodies of Alhaji Lawal and Dantani and neither could any other effort. Nevertheless, Maianguwa Nyam and two other youths were arrested and brought to the station in Bukuru that Friday. However, they were released on bail until the following day when the DPO escalated the matter to the Plateau State Police Headquarters in Jos on Saturday. When I went to condole the family of Alhaji Lawal yesterday evening, one of his relatives told me that the trio were under police custody at the headquarters.

The families of the deceased are making strenuous effort to recover the bodies. But as is common with the victims of Berom attacks, the bodies are usually disposed of in pits often prepared prior to the attacks. They may never be seen.

This mode of attack based on breach of trust is not new among the Berom. I know of two Fulani that were killed two years ago in Jos South after a Berom friend of theirs called to tell them that their cows have been recovered. They were killed in the same manner Lawal and Dantani were killed. Residents of Jos also know very well the stories of many craftsmen and achaba riders who were lured into neighbourhoods by their passengers, some of whom were even women masquerading in hijab, only to fall into the trap of bloodthirsty Berom youths that would snatch their machines and kill them.

Incidentally, there was an ongoing sensitization tour organized by the STF in the state last week when Lawal and his friend were brutally killed. As Lawal’s driver was waiting in Bukuru for the police to return from the scene of the murder on Friday, the paramount ruler of Jos, His Majesty, the Gbong Gwom Jos, was delivering a speech some twenty-five kilometers away at Riyom. In the speech, he warned that the only way to resolve the crises is to hold traditional and political leaders responsible for anything that happens in their domain. Listen to His Majesty as reported by Daily Trust of January 1st 2013:

“Gbong Gwom Jos, has said leaders should be held responsible for any attack in their respective domains. The monarch said in Riyom in the ongoing sensitization peace tour organized by the Plateau STF saying that the best way to tackle present security challenge is that in any location where there is an attack both traditional and political leaders should be arrested and face the wrath of the law. He said that for those of us that are called leaders we must rise up to our responsibility and also the people too must respect constituted authority for us to resolve this problem because you can never be good if you do not know how to follow.”

Relatives of victims who suffered such attacks previously and on which nothing was done will be quick to dismiss the warning of His Majesty as mere nice talk – and so would the relatives of Lawal and Dantani. To the rest of Nigerians, however, the Gbong Gwom is giving us a rope to hang him. Here is a traditional ruler under the domain of the Gbong Gwom in a police cell facing charges of masterminding an attack that claimed the lives of two innocent, unarmed and unsuspecting citizens. Will His Majesty rise up to the occasion and ensure that they are made “to face the full wrath of the law” as he warned or will the Palace, the Government House at Rayfield and the Plateau State judiciary, as usual, move quickly to sweep the crime under the carpet?

The matter is gaining momentum and the STF has renewed its interest on it. As I conclude this article, someone close to the STF headquarters informed me that one of the Berom arrested “is speaking” at the CID headquarters and, as a result, more people are arrested. It is suspected that he has also offered to show the location where he and his friends in crime disposed of the bodies of the victims.

It is likely that this time the words of His Majesty are not mere rhetoric. Justice should be done not only to console the families of the deceased but also to enable the residents of Lakwanjet village resume spending the night in their homes instead of the bush to where they flee at dusk in fear of a reprisal attack. Night temperatures in Jos are chilling now.

Incidentally, Lakwanjet is just some meters away from Dogo Nahauwa.

Politics / The Kiss Of The Married Woman That Eventually Scattered Mugabe'ś Kingdom by coolxpat(m): 9:47pm On Nov 20, 2017
THE KISS OF THE MARRIED WOMAN THAT EVENTUALLY SCATTERED MUGABE'Ś KINGDOM. A LESSON TO ALL MEN.

Now, it's difficult to piece together what is going to become of Zimbabwe after now, however history gives us a peek at the key actors in the drama currently playing out.
Now, this is the story you dont't know.

Mugabe the deposed President of Zimbabwe, Constantine Chiwenga the Head of the Zimbabwean Military and Mnangagwa the sacked Vice President of Zimbabwe are all friends, very good friends, they are comrades. The three men were in their 20's when they entered the bushes and took part in the liberation struggle to free Zimbabwe from white rule. Mugabe who was initially the Sect General of ZANU PF, became the head of state, the other two men were equally given plum positions of power and have continued as the 3 musketeers presiding over the destiny of Zimbabwe for 37 years.

Sometime in the 90's - Mugabe, the first musketeer fell in love with his personal secretary who happened to be another man's wife at the time, the lady's name was Grace and she became his mistress. While Mugabe was still married Grace had children for him. In 1996 they became man and wife after the death of Mugabe's first spouse.
But Grace was no ordinary mistress turned wife, she was not ready to take a backseat, she turned herself into Mugabe's political confidant, she used the bed and made her way to the very centre of Zimbabwean politics straining the relationship between Mugabe and his two comrades.
Mnangagwa the 2nd musketeer after many years of loyalty became Mugabe's Vice President in 2014, paving the way for his eventual hold on power should Mugabe retire, resign or die. But Grace had other ideas she wangled her way into ZANU PF's politburo and began her move to take out Mnangagwa and take power from her ailing husband.
In August 2017 Mnangagwa accused certain persons in the party of trying to poison him and made references to Grace. This didn't go down well with Mugabe, how could anyone accuse his beautiful Serengeti Rose flower. What Mugabe forgot was that boys are allowed to fight but the brotherhood must stay strong and united. In a move that shocked everyone (but didn't shock his beloved Grace) , he removed Mnangagwa from the position of Vice President, Mnangagwa not sure of what Grace will do to him fled to South Africa.

Now comes the 3rd musketeer Chiwenga Head of the Zimbabwaean military, a friend and brother of both Mugabe and Mnangagwa, "this is all the fault of one woman", he is probably thinking in his mind, " we were one until this woman came. I trust Mnangagwa to takeover, I don't know this woman; by the way, where was she when we were sleeping in the bushes before the liberation".
Chiwenga sends a warning to Mugabe advising him to put his house in order, the first time he has ever spoken this way to his senior comrade. Thinking Mugabe will take the signal, call him, negotiate and talk things over a cup of tea. NO! Mugabe does the exact opposite, he sends his Minister of Information to tell the Army General to stay out of State matters, Mugabe then finalises plans to sack Chiwenga perhaps to pave an unhindered route to the throne for Grace.

The military chief thought this had gone too far his brother and comrade in arms had drunk deep from the strange woman's bosom, it's wasn't him acting any longer , so he rolled out his tanks early this morning. He's therefore right when he says,"this is not a coup" ; when you really look at it, 3 friends have only fallen out over the inordinate ambitions of a woman.

Latest reportś say Mnangagwa the 2nd Musketeer is on his way back from South Africa, i've just read a report he's going to be installed interim President. The 1st Musketter Mugabe is under house arrest. The 3rd Musketter is in the saddle promising calm and quick elections. The 3 men have held Zimbabwe under lock and key for 37yrs, this is nothing but a change of baton. Zimbabwe needs a real revolution out of the hands of the veterans of the liberation struggle. No doubt in the 21st century Zimbabwe is the frozen out Animal Farm in George Orwells celebrated work.

Meanwhile the woman Grace, who started the whole katakata, I hear has fled the country leaving her beloved husband who sacrificed everything, to face an uncertain fate.
16m Zimbabweans could not remove Mugabe but a woman did.

Mama was always right when she always told me, "son - be careful who you fall in love with and eventually marry".
A lesson to all men!! #Copied

Politics / The Day I Discovered The True Wealth Of Nigeria __by Strive Masiyiwa by coolxpat(m): 8:57pm On May 16, 2017
The day I discovered the true wealth of Nigeria
__It's not all about oil!

When I first arrived in Nigeria to set up the country's first GSM mobile network, Econet Wireless Nigeria (now Airtel Nigeria), I had to serve as the company's interim CEO for about six months, until we appointed someone substantive. This meant I practically lived in Nigeria for most of that time. It was a remarkable experience, and one which will remain with me all my life. Nigeria is one of the most exciting countries in the world, and could be the next China before the turn of this century.

I just want to share with you one particular incident which led me to that conclusion: As many people know, today Nigeria has over 120m mobile phones users. To imagine that I made the first ever official GSM mobile call in Nigeria on 6th August 2001 seems almost unbelievable...

Our company Econet Wireless Nigeria was in a race with MTN Nigeria, the only other operator at the time, to meet a deadline set by the regulator for 8th of August. We beat the deadline and MTN by two days, and as Interim CEO, I had the privilege to call the regulator to tell him we were "Live"!

What a moment in my life! It's something I'll always cherish. I don't really care whether I own or don't own a mobile operator there today. My success will always be measured in terms of my small contribution in kick starting the largest mobile industry on the African continent, and it is Nigeria.

Several months before the launch deadline, I'd arrived with over 100 engineers and technicians, drawn mostly from Zimbabwe and South Africa. At the time, since Nigeria had been delayed by the military governments from acquiring GSM, it was one of the last markets without this new technology. President Obasanjo, who had just won the election two years earlier, wanted to change that and had issued three licenses, but one had been delayed.

This meant that when we started operations, Nigeria had no homegrown engineers or technicians with experience in GSM mobile technology. (Today it has more than Southern Africa combined!)

So whilst setting up the network to meet the deadline, we used expatriates from other African countries that already had GSM. We also began the process of recruiting Nigerian engineers and technicians who we would retrain for this exciting new industry to take over from the expatriate team, which wanted to do in the shortest time possible.

We had literally thousands of posts to fill.

In one instance, we placed newspaper adverts in all leading newspapers asking for people qualified in electronic engineering, at degree level, and with minimum five years relevant experience. I'll never forget the response. I came into the office to find postal bags, piled to the ceiling!

"I only want to see the applications from people who meet our requirements, and not from chancers who aren't qualified," I complained.

"Sir, these are the ones we have vetted."

"What?! You mean there were more than this?"

"Thousands, sir."

Then I came up with an idea: "Why don't you separate for me, the most qualified academically. Set aside people with MBAs, and even PHDs."

A day later, another postal bag of applications was delivered to my office. I was staggered!

There were thousands of people with qualifications in just this one discipline with MBAs and PHDs! Many had qualified in the best universities around the world. There were also GSM-qualified Nigerians working internationally, including in America and Europe, wanting to return home!

I was blown away by the qualifications. I thought to myself: "You can start almost any business or industry here. I wish investors would one day discover the wealth of this nation."

Whenever I hear people talk about the wealth of Nigeria in terms of oil, I shake my head to say: "You have no idea what you're talking about!"

The true wealth of Nigeria is its extraordinary human capital, and passion for education. Unleash that and no one can stop them!

#FocusForwardEntrepreneurs!

On this platform, we're working to build a prosperous African continent, together... People, product, process. Lights, camera, action!

Politics / The North Cannot Be Instigated To War By Aliyu U. Tilde by coolxpat(m): 10:20pm On Jan 27, 2017
The North Cannot Be Instigated to War

A letter from the Acting Registrar KSCOE Kafancan refuted that 5 students were ambushed and killed by herdsmen on their way to Gidan Waya campus some days back and wondered why even 'reputable' papers would carry such stories when the college is not even in session. Mr Samuel should not wonder because some people are instigating war in the North. But they will fail woefully.

I think those defeated in Biafra should realize that Gowon's defeat was decisive and final. One Nigeria is here. This attempt at revenge through incitement cannot turn the clock of reality. Meanwhile, do not forget that Gowon is not a herdsman.

I repeat: We northerners can have our challenges, even if instigated or amplified by outsiders. But we are not stupid enough to got to war over them. We will come out stronger, to the shame of enemies who want to see the region in conflagration.

Let these defeated war-mongers visit Plateau today and see how Fulani herds are grazing in Riom and Shendam. Even with a state government that sponsored an agenda of hatred and massacres for 8 years, our eternal resolve for peaceful coexistence could not be broken.

It is through this kind of propaganda that innocent souls in the south are made to believe that there is a rampaging battalion of herdsmen that is killing thousands of Christians in southern-Kaduna and against which the Christians are incited to take up arms.

And they blame government for not doing anything. How can government act on mere propaganda? The present IG went on a fact finding mission in Southern Kaduna two weeks ago and came back telling the media to stop the exaggeration.

It is not the first time. At Agatu, Arase, the former IG, asked to be shown the graves of the 300 Agatians killed by herdsmen. All he could be shown was graves of 3 people! Today, the Agatians have freely allowed Fulani to continue grazing on their land. Shame to the liars and Devils that pray for bloodbirth in the North.

More is awaiting these bad losers. We northerners will come out of the southern-Kaduna crisis stronger. Our people will not suffer war while you smile from 500 km east or 1000 km southwest of Kafanchan. Soon, it will be like it has become in Plateau and Benue. God is on the side of peace lovers. The fiery pastor and his ilk will live in frustration and hell forever.

And take note that these demons and criminals will never spoil the good image of thousands of southerners whom we have come to associate with and love for several decades now. Nobody can tarnish the image of Madame Rose from whom I buy my plumbing materials, or PD from whom I buy my industrial mechanical parts. Not to mention my old friendship with Professor Ezealor in Owerri or Mr. Chidi in Umudike. Vanguard cannot severe these ties no matter its evil efforts.

Neither can it break my nearly 40 years relationship with Prof. Iortsuun, my former Tiv (thief) lecturer from Benue. I missed her when I visited her office in Zaria yesterday. I called her and she told me how much she missed me. Does any southern or eastern newspaper think I will ever take up arms against this northern jewel simply because she is Christian? In the contrary, I am ready to defend her with my blood in appreciation of the exceptional love she showed me over the past four decades as I will defend Serah, Faith, Felicia, Gida, Drambi, etc.

I can fill hundreds of pages with the stories of my Christian friends from Northern and Eastern Nigeria. The dream of someone that he can just instigate war among us while he enjoys his bed in Enugu or Lagos remains just what it is - a dream. When the chips are down, we from the North - Christians and Muslims alike - know that we share a common name that others refer to us with - northerners. We know that in our eyes we all carry that same tag irrespective of our religion. And we are proud of to anwer our father's name. And let us be frank. I am sure they are intelligent enough to know that at the sub-national level, they too have a tag that they carry, with which we northerners refer to them, irrespective of whether we are Christians or Muslims.

Now, I will give a piece of advice to people like Pastor Oyedepo who is advising that the country be divided between Christians and Muslims (forgetting that his village, Omuaran, is in a muslim majority state), Apostate Suleiman, SSCE (yes that is his qualification) and southern newspapers, that they should preach peace and desist from courting violence, for violence can smell its instigator from afar and overtake him wherever he is, no matter his position in society or his detachment from the scene he depicts it.

We once had someone in Nigeria, a highly placed person, a governor in the Second Republic, a SAN, who was referring to Fulani as Tutsis of Nigeria, publicly instigating a genocide against them in the late 1990s. He died with his wish unfulfilled. Instead, Bola Ige, did not have the privilege to die a natural death. Even as the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, the nemesis of violence visited him one evening in his house. He was served some bullets by one of his own, not by a Fulani herdsman. And to date, nobody is convicted for the crime. He became a variable to neutralize in the 2003 second tenure algebra of someone, his own kind, not a Tutsi Fulani for that matter.

Moral: Do not wish bloodshed for some people because it will boomerang on you. Apostate Suleman, the coward, can run from the SSS and enjoy the protection of another equally criminal personality. However, he cannot run away from the nemesis of violence when it reckons to visit him one day.

I must confess to the Roses and Ezealors of my life that I write these posts with so much pain and do so only because it is inevitable today. My pen cannot afford the luxury of political correctness under the situation. We can not sit back and allow some people to instigate bloodshed among in the North. We must check them by all means through revealing their machinations and make our people dispel them. The life of a single Christian or Muslim in southern Kaduna is so priceless to me as a northerner that I just must protect it with my pen. Please do understand.
