MojAyo: Mothers, pls, what re home remedies for cold and cough
what i did at six months, when my baby had cattargh, i put eucalyptus oil in hot water and bring close to her so she can inhale the vapour, she would cry and wiggle, so u have to hold strong, then suck out the mucus, n then rub ori on the bridge of her nose, it helps to clear the airways as well... i dont know how that works sha, i wold then give vitamin c.

for cough i would just take her to hospital, where they usually prescribe septrin syrup, or augmentin syrup.

i never ever gave honey till one year, so i was advised as it is not good medically, you can google it.

MojAyo: Hello mothers, pls I'm having a doubt of changing my baby food cereal,he has been on wheat cerelac past 6days ago,he will be 6month next week by God grace,I noticed sometimes after feeding my baby,he became so irritated, dat he won't let u do anything,he has gain weight since d introduction of d cereal, sometimes he felt calm and happy after feeding him,and he is nt having diarrhea,I just want to knw what's making my baby so irritated,my mum said maybe stomach is paining him becos of d wheat cereal, maybe he is nt able to digest it vry well(I took d cereal frm 6-12months)mothers pls help me out, there is another baby fOod cereal available for him,I'm thinking of switching on to dat(Rice and maize cereal),mothers, pls advice me
How irritating is he? maybe he just wants you to carry him at that time. in the 6 days, is he cranky like 5 times or just 1 time? it could be that he is still hungry and wants more food.

but well, just to rest your mind, you could also try the rice cereal and see if he will behave differently.

In my opinion tho' i think wheat has a lot of fibre so it should not cause constipation if taken well.

just take it easy. All is well...

honey001: Hello all, please my lil baby had a small cut on his forehead this morning while attempting to crawl out of the house door, he hit his forehead on small small pebbles on the floor outside the house, though the cut is little, i immediately applied first aid by washing it with Spirit and put injection powder, my wife says no need of taking him to clinic as its not a big deal, but im worried, can i continue applying only the injection powder or wat other measures can we take ourselves without visiting clinic? Thanks.
Please what is injection powder?

i think he will be fine, as far as the bruise is kept clean.

Okay, i checked it out.

i knew about the note on the label, i just believed that a child is an infant before 12 months, and a toddler from 12 months, so i waited till twelve months. and it does not constipate her as well.

MojAyo: hello, should I put pepper in my babys mouth at six month to taste, and should I also be adding it to his solid food from dat 6month,I need more explanation on dis
I did not say put pepper in the baby's mouth.

What i said is when i eat soup, apart from her okro, it could be vegetable soup, or egusi soup, the watery part of the soup, i give her to taste, trying to make her get accustomed to the food we eat, because right now, she is 1 year 6 months, and she eats everything we eat, we dont say 'oh because of the child in the house i wont put pepper in food'. it worked for me.

As for her own meals, when i cook meat/chicken, (boneless chicken) i dice it into cubes, and boil as i would boil my chicken but without all the plenty spices, put onions, dry pepper, a cube of maggi, (some people say it is not okay, but the food always tasted bland, so i use it), diced carrot, diced tomatoes, and then i blend it together. the food will not be pepperish, but it's there. same goes for the beans.

cereals, oatmeal, custard and banana goes with milk.

That was what i did, i hope you understand.

MojAyo: Hello mothers,my 22weeks old baby has an eczema on his face before which is known as eela,I took him to d doctor,my baby doctor prescribed an antibiotics for him(Zinnat)which when he use as prescribed, the eczema went away, and also then,my mum was using toto to bath him then because of d eczema,it went away, after some while ,my baby started scratching his eye(one of his eyes),I think its an allergy, which I stopped using d toto for him on his face, and started using baby acqeous cream as soap for him on his face, then d scratching of d eye went away,I just notice some 2days frm now, there si something like heat or ezcema on his face which I can't describe, and it make him to be irritated by him crying,it makes some part of his face to a little little red,pls mothers, what can I use for him
I think you should take him back to the hospital, since it is recurring.
HealthRe: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by corrall(f): 1:46pm On Jul 15, 2014
Well, from 6 months i bought a seperate blender for her food and then i gradually introduced -

- rice cereal maybe cerelac
- birds custard with milk
- semo and okro soup with titus fish
- pureed banana
- gradually introduced quaker oats (grounded into powder form) with milk
- peeled beans with titus fish, crayfish, and palmoil.
- from 9 months i started cooking chicken/beef, carrots, maybe tomatoes, and grind together to be pasty and add to very soft noodles or mashed potatoes or mashed yam or mashed sweet potatoes.

I also used to put any other soup in her mouth, even if it had a little pepper. now she does not refuse food even if there is pepper in it.

She did'nt use to eat a lot of it so i used to give her formula and bosom as well.

My sis, even as adults, with all we eat, if you do not drink water, your poop will be hard. You can't give a laxative to a baby. All you can do is give water. Like Mojayo said, confirm the quantity from your doctor.

kayfuture: People tend to jump at a slight opportunity to cast someone, whereas they kept mute on how to proffer solutions.
This is a FORUM and not health Clinic. @mojayo, said something's she thought she knew, and IMO, its your choice to take or ignore!
You must be conversant with OKA if you are a Yoruba lady/woman.
Oga, it's not today I joined this thread. I have been here almost two years. If a situation comes up, and it's something I have gone through with my LO, I advise. If it is strange to me, I sit back and learn from other people's experiences.

Lets just watch what we say. That's my own.

jam04: don't change his diet since he is eating them fine and he isn't stooling. For the hard poo, try to always give him water at interval during meals and even when he isn't eating. Water at this stage of his growing up is VERY essential and shouldn't be joke with.
true talk.

give the child a lot of water, it is needed for the food to digest now.
HealthRe: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by corrall(f): 1:19pm On Jul 14, 2014
Hi,

Mojayo, you have still not explained to us, Non-yoruba's what OKA is.

Well, in my opinion, lets be really careful what we say here. its quite disturbing to say a newborn needs agbo, for what na? say pikin refuse to drink from bottle and prefers em mama bosom, na em be say e need agbo. HA!!!.

Situations can make a mother not be able to do EBF for 6 months. D lady even try sef, she did for 3 months. I never did exclusive for one day, my mum (a nurse) never allowed it, for the purpose that this lady is complaining of.

Anyways, lets just watch what we state here as there are a lot of people that depend on our contributions.

thanks.

@Mojayo...My Baby had only vitamin A at six months. You can start introducing cerelac to your LO, the rice one, also you can give mashed potatoes, mashed banana, and gradually allow him to taste your soup so he can begin to get used to normal food.

chris4gold: My baby girl is about two weeks and 4 days today, my questions are myself and the mother are in eager to take her to church for dedication, but people kept saying we should wait till 40 days, 1. ist compulsory that we wait for that period? my daughter enjoying sleeping on hand to her cot and bouncer 2. what can we do stop this from happening? 3. is their anything to wash baby tongue? 4. what need to be done so that she can be sleep over night?.
Thanks
Hi Chris,

Well,
1. I support what someone said earlier that you should wait a bit before the dedication. I waited for like 3 months.
2. Sleeping from hand to cot n bouncer, I think that is normal, at least that will be the only way she can sleep na. Abi u want her to lie down and sleep on her own? You need to rock her to sleep.
3. As for baby tongue, my mum started washing it right from the first week of life. She would use small towel in hot water and clean her tongue.
4. Hmmm, my guy, my baby is one now and I still de wake up o. I wish I had an answer to that. Now the stage now is that she no de gree cover cloth for night. So I have to be awake to be sure she is covered.

It is interesting though. God is with us.
