SNCOQ3 It is a thought but consider this: If an international pharmaceutical company was interested, they'd have to protect their interest. Now let us assume they do send people here, they can't confirm its authenticity until a few years of testing etc under their own stringent conditions. For them to do that they must have some measure of control so they agree to set up shop in Nigeria. Now most likely you'll have to form a company with them or at the very least have some sort of contract. I can assure you that for such a discovery, they wouldn't stop at anything to ensure that it gets patented. If they have to settle then so be it. They don't do these things directly-that's what lawyers are for. They hide such payments in legal fees, and remember lawyer/client relationships are privileged so nobody really knows what's discussed.

Jmoore, please try to be a bit more constructive. It is not enough to say "it is possible" without offering solutions. Maybe it is and I just can't see it but it would help me and others on this thread if you could enlighten us. If we had had this argument 30 years ago, maybe I would agree with you but in today's Nigeria, I just can't see it.
Business / Re: Can A Nigerian Become A Billionaire Without Patronizing Corruption Or Politics? by Cotton(m): 7:03pm On Feb 23, 2012
You still have to go through Nafdac, Standards Organisation of Nigeria and probably others. If u don't play ball they can frustrate your efforts. Of course you could take your patent outside the country but that defeats the essence of this argument. Right?

The naivety of some of the posters here amazes me. Hard work is good but in this our country you cannot get that kind of money without touching corruption in some way, no matter how small, such, unfortunately is the way our society has evolved. Remember corruption takes different forms, settling the tax man is a form of corruption, so is settling lastma on ur way to a business deal, settling the police for whatever, the list goes on and on. For those of you who seem to think that it is possible, please tell me who you know that has done it, our megamillionaire pastors? lol!

The hardest working rich men are probably the igbo traders yet they understand that settlement is a way to get things done, either at the port, airport or even in the market itself,

Even the white collar self employed, how many declare their real income? Higher rate tax is over 40%, would you give 40% of your earnings to this government??

Well as this thread progresses let us see who can fit the bill, of not having touched corruption in some form with that kind of wealth. Remember we are talking billionaire and not merely your 150m guy who can travel first class. We are talking liquidity!!!

Use one of those nigerian owned courier services. Make sure you use one that is recommended.
Business / Re: Nigeria Customs And Dhl Problem by Cotton(m): 12:03am On May 10, 2011
Welcome to Naija. Normally there is nothing like a customs duty on DHL/Fedexed items. The company is suppose to post the item directly to the consignee!! There is something fishy here. Maybe either a customs officer is interested in the laptop or a DHL staff is trying to be 'funy'. Waste no time in shouting at those layabouts or they will cart away all these items,

Yes there is something like duty on Dhl and Fedexed goods. My experience with DHL has been that they paid the duty for me and billed me on delivery or phoned me to inform me that they are coming and that duty would be payable. Either way, I have always been given an invoice for the payment. There was one time though that my supplier sent the goods through EMS and they ended up at a post office in Somolu. I had to go there and pay duty but it wasn't more than 4k for goods worth $1,300.00. This 4k though went straight to the custom officer's pocket as I didn't get a receipt.

I think if you want to send goods, you need to request the supplier/sender to under invoice it for duty purposes. All China suppliers I've dealt with would be too happy to do this for you.

,buhari-lets forget the fact that he was a military head of state and he stopped corruption accordin to some people(i cant judge him on dis because dem Never even tink of bornin me dat time Grin Grin).but since 2003,it has shown dat buhari just wants to bcom president just to add to his resume and show dat its nt only OBJ dat can be both head in military n democratic system of government, he is old and so are his ideas, from the debates he has shown dat he doesn't av any new tins to wake this giant that is in coma(NIGERIA)all dose money that he is using to contest in elections and pursuing dem in court should av gone into helping his community in his own way Sad Sad, he has also shown dat the youths are not in his plan by boycottin the last debate, though i would judge him better than gej cos his party isnt dat strong so he doesn't av so many ppl to share the national cake with n may likely be forced to move 9ja forward.

I appreciate your points but would you agree with me that Nigeria's greatest problem is not the lack of ideas but the will to implement them. Buhari may be old but if he can ensure that monies allocated for projects are actually utilised in the appropriate manner, are we not progressing? Unfortunately, our lawmakers are very corrupt and we need someone who will not be intimidated by them. We need someone who can put his foot down and see plans through. In my humble opinion, I believe that GEJ has been compromised and so even if he has good intentions, those who he needs to survive will not allow him to do anything that will jeopardize their interests. You only need to look at the past 12 years to see that the ruling party doesn't have the interests of the common man at heart.

Even if you don't vote for BB, can you really afford to bring back the PDP for another 4 years?

Buhari is a man of action. His records speak for themselves. He may not be perfect and he may have made some mistakes in his youth but he is only human. Out of the presented candidates that actually have a chance, I would root for him.

As for you, vote who you want, but for the love of the future generations, never the PDP.

Buhari symboluzes failure and depicts of insecurity.NL put on your thinking caps, vote wisely, vote GEJ for a breathe of fresh air.Buhari is a failure,he must fail again in this election,No apologies.pls.

So in your high opinion, GEJ who did nothing for a state of approx 2m Nigerians (Bayelsa), as the Dep Gov and Governor is qualified to lead a nation of 150m?

But if you know of ANY of his achievements when he was a governor or even now as the no. 1 citizen, please enlighten me.
