Please, don't despair, you are almost there.

Forget Nigeria, you are brilliant, focus on graduating with a first or strong 2:1, start foreign admission in your penultimate year. By God's grace I got in for more than 3 PhD admissions (all fully funded) before I even wrote my final exams in Uni. You can do same too!

thanks for your comment I appreciate. But then, Bayero university is not a weak school and her student can complete favorable with other schools in Nigeria.Reason why my department here has both ICAN and ACCA accreditation. What this means is that A Bsc from my school Accounting department would be exempted from 7 papers same as an ICAN holder when writing ACCA.
PS ACCA is an internationally and globally Accounting body and hold more water than ICAN. So if such a body can accredit my school it shows the quality and credibility of the school.

there are more than just '4' accounting/auditing firms in the country, don't cage yourself to the big 4, you should have learned that from your preferred university's continuous rejection

But on a joking note, you run to weak and inferior northern universities to snap first class, you think say you dey wise

You are right. ICAN is a must but then the financing has been a major set back reason why I am doing my utmost best to secure a first class so that I can qualified for the ICAN diamond scholarship. As a result of this I won’t be starting ICAN now cos I have to wait till I graduate and then start during NYSC.i hope it’s not too late.

Ohh well I didn't study accounting but my mum did
I will advice you start ICAN anyways

CareerThe Tales Of A Worried Undergraduate. by Covenant97(op): 12:28am On May 27, 2022
Good day Nairalanders,

My name is Covenant Ajolore. A level 300 undergraduate student of Accounting in a Federal university in Nigeria.

My reason for writing is to seek advice as well as see others views as regard my current situation.

It dated back some years ago after the completion of my National diploma, graduated with distinction in accountancy from kaduna polytechnic at age 20. After that I went for my 1 year IT which I did in a bank while simultaneously applying for a DE into the university which I did not get twice(no thanks to unilorin) Two years wasted.

Unfortunately, I decide to change based and opt for a school in the North. given my grade and less competition, I got in and started from level 2 at which I was going to be 23 that year.

With high hopes and enthusiasm I thought I was going to complete my degree at age 25 and then had the chance to start a career in the big 4 (this was part of my plan) and hopefully start ICAN during service. But no thanks to Covid 19, and coupled with the current ASUU strike, it is now evident that it won’t be any way possible, and has thus aggravated my fears and stress level, due to the following effect it has on my plans/goals to be achieved.

1. i won’t be qualified for any graduate trainee job which criteria is a 2.1 and 26 years of age.(I am currently on a 4.40 CGPA and yet to write level 3 first semester exams and I am earnestly working towards graduating with a first class so the 2.1 criterion won’t be a hassle for me but the age factor would be).

2.All my course mate during my National diploma days in the polytechnic that has gone back for there HND are now graduates or currently serving.

Given my current predicaments what would be your next line of action or advice if you were to be in my shoes.

PS: The thought of writing ICAN exam is scaring the shit out of me and also life after school. I don’t know if this is common.
CareerRe: Contract Staff Job At 3 Oil Companies As An Explorer, Is It Possible? by Covenant97(m): 9:52pm On May 25, 2022
It seems you know a lot about the oil industry. Please permit my ignorance, i am an accounting student currently in 300level with a good CGPA and I have this desire to one day work in an oil company and even intern but the issue is I do not know how to go about the interning aspect.

Before the advent of the ASUU strike we have been told by my school management that the Accounting student currently, which is my set would undergo an internship program and as such we should start looking for a company to intern.any advice from you would go a long way

PS i school in Bayero university Kano located in Kano, Northern Nigeria. Part of the internship condition is that we are only limited to companies located in Kano as anything outside Kano, the student would be the ones to bear the full cost including supervisors transport and logistics of which I can bear the finance tussle.so I had no choice than to look here in Kano. And I doubt if any oil company both oil servicing company is located here in Kano.but nonetheless your guidiance is all I need.
Chike4all:
My brother let me advice you. I know students build themselves with big dreams, but here's the reality in Nigerian Oil industry;
If you want your purpose of internship is to build your skills as a driller, geologist, mud engineer etc, and probably get big jobs in the future in big IOC's, then listen carefully.
1. Focus more on Oil servicing companies, forget Total and Exxon for now. Concentrate on working for drilling companies like Schlumberger, halliburton, Nest oil, Oilserv, Hamilton, Mi Swaco, etc. They are the companies doing these jobs from survey to drilling till the well produces. Not Total or Mobil which are the clients to the service companies.

2. Your question n0 2 shows you don't know how the field plays. For any Oil company to give you contract in Nigeria you must fulfil the local content requirements. Which requires operating a registered company or working under a registered company, not as an individual.

3. n0 3 question, they can employ any body and train you in any field of operation. Where I work, most mud engineers studied either chemical engineering, geology or petroleum. Even chemistry. Just get ready to be trained or get a certification.

4. For the last question, anyone is needed, your course doesn't matter that much, this is Nigeria, if u have connections, you can get job anywhere.
But professionally, Petroleum engineers has an edge over others because they can work in every aspect of the Oil industry. I mean every operational field from geology, as a driller, as mud engineer, as mud logger, in labs, refining etc. Chemical, mechanical and electrical engineers too have great chances.

Lastly, I don't know the Exxon Mobil you wanna work on, cos the present one is leaving Nigeria & has been bought by SEPLAT. All there contractors has been fired & they're concluding the takeover as I speak. You can try Shell, Total & others,...

Most of these big international Oil companies don't employ inexperienced engineers, unless it's a trainee program which is contract. There main staff are largely highly experienced people from oil servicing companies. Thank you

What is the process involved in applying for this scholarship. Your advice would go a long way.
Thank you.
HELLASJ:
Look for a less competitive uni do change of institution. With that score your chances of getting admitted into law department at unilag is slim.

PS:
If you graduated with atleast 2.1 then sort for funding/scholarship and go study abroad. Biochemistry na hot cake for abroad.
They are numerous schools/professors offering full funding for your cousre.

U wan still stay here make ASUU strike your destiny ahbi.

Accounting.
I would have been more happier as an engineer. I was a science student and set out to study electrical/electronic engineering before diverting to Accounting.

Secondly, my MBA. As an accounting student, i found my MBA to be totally irrelevant and a waste of time.
I am also an accounting undergraduate in my finals though, but then I have lost all hopes concerning the financial reward attached to it.

If I may ask, what would you advice the undergraduate and graduate alike to do differently regarding this career choice to study accounting that can set one up for financial rewards. To me financial reward is the most vital thing to put into consideration when making a choice of career.
Thank you.
EducationRe: How Do I Remember Things I've Read Before Exams? by Covenant97(m): 6:46pm On Oct 30, 2020
Thank you very much paul100 and most especially thank you for your response. Actually i heard about this method on YouTube most notably from a Cambridge medical student whose name goes by Ali Abdal and also, Cal newport talked about this method on his book(straight A students secret). this method has been proven to be the most used by top students all over institutions across the world.

I am an Accounting student myself and accounting courses include the combination of theory and calculations. But i can remember i used these two method (Active recall and spaced repetition) during my ND days(national diploma fro. Kaduna polytechnic) to squash big time making other students feel as if they are not serious. I graduated the second over all best with the second highestCGPA in my set and even my friend that graduated with the overall best result in our set uses this same method. The only problem i had in school was that me and him always drag for the best result each semester because we both know that we make use of same method for studying.
But i must say this method is not easy as it requires hardwork and disciple but the good thing is it works so well

P. S i am now in the university same with my friend who i said graduated as the overall best during our set and it would suprise you that he is currently on first class CGPA 4.66 in the university using these same methods he even made a 4.77 GPA last semester that's to show u how good this methods work, but as for me i got admitted in the same university as his this year whe he got admitted last year so that makes him a year above me so i am yet to have a GPA due to this covid 19 outburst.
I will follow your advice, too many subject makes the whole thing kind of hard to plan but your idea has made it easier for me thanks........
EducationRe: How Do I Remember Things I've Read Before Exams? by Covenant97(m): 9:14am On Oct 27, 2020
@paul 100..thanks alot for this wonderful write up of yours.you indeed are a scholar for adopting these study method but i would like to ask a question regarding your write up on the spaced repetition point you made.

How can i apply the spaced repetition method when taking multiple subjects/courses? as you know in most of our universities in Nigeria we do like 8 to 9 courses even more per semester and each courses contains different topics eg Financial Accounting may contain 6 topics, Economics may contain 7 topics etc. I hope you get my point.

How then can one plan effectively to repeat these topics in each courses more than twice or three times using spaced repetition on each different courses.

Also as regard reviewing those topics again, are we to go over and answer the questions we set on the topic previously or we are to re read the topic again. Cause i was told re reading is ineffective for retention.

None of the above

Mine is reading per lecture
Once am done with the day lectures when i get home i read and assimilate cos am not good book piling up

Few days to exam i just revised and am good to go
Once you know your weakness, you will come out in flying colours
you mean you read everyday. But what if you are being taught 2 to 3 courses a day are you still going to read all the courses you did that day, because i thought having 2 to 3 other courses to read in a day will kind of distract one from fully focusing and finishing the course at hand.. Any suggestions...

EducationMethods To Adopt When Preparing For Fill In The Blank Question For An Exam by Covenant97(op): 1:03pm On Oct 20, 2020
Good afternoon nlders.

My name is covenant, i have been following this forum for a very long time without been a registered member. just this year i took it upon myself to be part of this forum so i can contribute my own quota as to whatever answer i can render on these platform and also to benefit from the gurus in the house.

I must say all nlders here have been a great source of knowledge, hope and inspiration to me. some of your comment, opinions and ideas you have all shared on this platform has been of great importance to readers all round the world. Keep the good work!!
Enough of my appreciation let me get to the main reason for the day.

I am an undergraduate student schooling in the north and with every serious minded student who want to make themselves proud and that of their families, doing well academically is of great importance.

I want to know what/which method of reading can i adopt to a fill in the black type of question to set myself up for scoring good marks.

Actually the exam in question is micro economics it is a 3 units course and compulsory in my department.

As we all know fill in the blank type of questions is very easy to fail as it is either you know the answer or not, so i am asking those who must have written this kind of exam before and has scaled through successfully to please advice on how best i can study and prepare for such kind of exam.

P. S the lecturer has already make it clear to all students that the exam style is going to be fill in the blank and true or false question and that we should read our handout line by line because he might just pick a particular line and omit some word for us to fill in the missing word, which is more likely a la cram la pour kinda question.

Also his reason for his choice for this style of exam is due to the large number of students taking the course so it would be easier and faster for him to mark a fill in the blank question that it would take for a theory/subjective style of question....

Opinions and advice needed.
Thanks
Below is the attached format of the last year past questions on the topic

EducationRe: Just Saw My Cgpa, What Are My Chances. by Covenant97(m): 3:48pm On Oct 16, 2020
[quote author=xammax post=76593509]bro i dont think you should allow your desire for being the best graduating student bother you. From what i can see you have a very good CGPA that alota student are desperate to have. Being an Accounting student myself i will only advice that you keep on doing what has brought you this far, focus on yourself and try to set higher goals each semester. with that you can be rest assured that you did your best if you ended up not comming out as the BGS.
In a nutshell while it is good to use others who are ahead of you as an inspiration to perform better it is also important you dont compete with them as the only competition you have in this world is yourself. so keep setting new personal goals and keep striving hard to beat your last success... That is that.

But i will love it if you can share and elucidate on the study method or secret you had adopted that got you those high GPAs so that i can apply them into my study methods thanks.

CareerRe: You Earn #200k A Month But Your Boss Is Always Angry & Abusive? by Covenant97(m): 2:53pm On Oct 12, 2020
Alexgman1:
You happen to have a well paid job where you earn close to #200,000 monthly but your boss is always angry, abusive, disrespectful, proud, impatient & provoking personality.
Will you endure and continue working for him and flexing ur fat salary every month or you will quit if you cant take it any longer?
Well op... if there's one factor that is very paramount for an employee to reach greater heights in any establishment that would be having a good boss.

Having a good boss is very much important than commanding a huge salary at the start in any establishment.

Well from your write up it seems to me that you have a toxic boss which is not a good factor for your career growth.
My advice would be that you ask your self these following questions, but make sure you give an accurate answer to these questions i am about to reel out, because that would give you proper insights to make the best decision.

Questions to ask yourself..

1.what is the degree of your expertise on the job?Are you so good on the job that you cant be ignore.if the answer is yes then you can treathen your boss with your decision to quit, and if he ask you for the reason why, then you can tell him the truth about his or her behaviour towards you. Because every saine boss wouldn't like to lose a competent employee who is providing value in his establishment.

2.have you been saving some money at the start of appointments as an employee in that company. If yes, then you can consider calling it a quit, because leaving that company harmed with your expertise and money you can start up something for your self.

Lastly if you answered no to all of these questions then i would consider you stay on that job for a while giving yourself an exit plan and save up aggressively, while also make sure that you become so good on that job before calling it a quit.

You can only consider investing that saved money into an income producing assets that also appreciate in value. by so doing you will have something to fall back to,Because a wise man once say never make your job your only source of supply because when that job is taken from you, you will have nothing to fall back on...

Lastly never leave your job until you have something better and never quit a job until you have an asset or a side hustle that can pay you up to that amount you are receiving as a salary.....

My own opinion though
Nairaland GeneralRe: What Broke Your Trust With Friends? Share Your Experience by Covenant97(m):
EdmundChidera:
It is once said that the devil you know is better than the Angel you don't know.

Friends is good no doubt, having a lot of friends makes someone gets connected in the society. There are many advantage coming from having many friends, meanwhile some people still want to keep the circle of their friends small to avoid unnecessary drama.

I once seek an advice from my friend on how to leave Nigeria for a better livelihood outside the country. He gave a lot of reason why I shouldn't leave the country which I somehow was convincing. To my greatest surprise, I saw my guy on Facebook taking pictures with white folks like Osuofia in London grin. He left for Canada after telling me story for the gods on how Nigeria will be heaven later.
I later travelled sha.

Another experience, when I went to pageantry with my friends, though I never planned to partake, my schoolmate told me to replace him looking how fresh I was then sha, but I needed to look more dope. I had to borrow my guys necklaces and wrist watch immediately. While awaiting for result, these guys decided to take away those stuff in the public, just to shame me. I later won sha, And decided not to borrow again.

In my hood then when i had a fine babe and she was so proud of me posting me everywhere as the main guy. I know some guys in pain about her actions but will never believe that my real paddy wants the babe too. The guy toast the babe she refused, the nonsense guy came to me to call the girl names. With this experience I avoided public relationship.

Many experience though, is it when you ask your classmate how you preparing for exam, he will tell you, I'm yet to open my book. Or is it those that say love na scam, getting married. Or those saying school na scam, furthering their education. And so on

Share your experience wink
Actually my own case with friends is kinda different

I keep small circles of friends who i know i will have
something to benefit from them vice versa.

The most important thing in any friendship is to be careful and know who u are dealing with and make sure that it is not a one sided friendship. Both parties have to be beneficial to one another...

My opinion though.
