Threats of sanctions is a serious worry for Nigeria, that's why I see significant concerns with US weapons. However it was same threat of sanctions that dissuaded Nigeria from getting the remaining MI-35M helicopters from Russia.

If you can't buy from anywhere else, you might as well just buy from America. That threat exists, and we have to live with it.

Their are restrictions on the use of the A-29 Super Tucanos, and their would be restrictions on the use the AH-1Z helicopters also.

I don't think Nigeria is allowed to use the Super Tucano outside of Nigeria for instance. We have to find a balance, and procure the right mix of military equipment.

We are buying helicopters and the Super Tucano from America, the M-346F/A from Italy. Areas where we can't deploy the Tucanos, we use the M-346F/A.

Nothing appears to show we are interested in the C-130s for now, all pointers show we will receive some C-295 aircrafts from Airbus in the near future. This won't be a bad purchase, but we should jettison them, in my opinion, for the C-130J instead.

Not a fan of the C-295. Political will, will get us the C-130J or even the C-5 Super Galaxy. We need enhanced strategic airlift capability.

Nigeria cleared to buy AH-1Z attack helicopters | AH-1Z Viper for Nigeria

The US State Department announced it has approved the sale of AH-1Z attack helicopters to Nigeria for an estimated cost of $997 million.

The Nigerian government requested to buy a total of 12 AH-1Z helicopters, as well as 2,000 Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) guidance sections.

Also included in the deal are night vision cueing displays (NVCD), communication equipment, electronic warfare systems, and M197 20mm machine guns, and other supporting equipment and services.

$25M of case funds would be allocated for institutional and technical assistance to the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to continue the air ground integration (AGI) program, which includes developing targeting processes that are legally compliant with International Humanitarian Law and the Laws of Armed Conflict.

“The sale will better equip Nigeria to contribute to shared security objectives, promote regional stability and build interoperability with the US and other Western partners,” the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a release.

The principal contractors on the acquisition would be Bell Helicopter, the manufacturer of the helicopter, and General Electric.

US Under Secretary; Victoria Nuland

The United States of America’s Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, has said that the US government is strategically interested in Nigeria because the country practices democracy and is the sole decider in the growth of the African continent.

Ambassador Nuland said this during a press briefing with selected media correspondents on Thursday at the US Ambassador to Nigeria’s residence, Maitama, Abuja.

She said, “The way Nigeria goes is the way the continent goes. Concerning our strategic interest in the country, there’s always a war between authoritarianism and democracy, and considering the fact that Nigeria is the largest democracy in Africa, if Nigeria can become increasingly stable and secure, empower its population, diversify its economy and empower the next generation, it will be a powerful engine not only for itself but for the African continent and all democracies across the world.”

The Under Secretary, who also met with the Vice-President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Ibrahim Gambari, at the State House, said the focus of her visit was concerning the issues of security, free, fair, credible and peaceful elections.

Nuland said, “We have been focusing on the issues of security, free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections. We also talked more broadly about our security relationship, but at the high end in terms of the holistic approach to security, earlier we delivered some Tucano jets, and we are about to have a new delivery of helicopters as well.

“Concerning our cooperation, we talked about the fact that security needs to be about countering terrorism at the high end, however, it also needs to be about what comes behind it – such as better governance, employment, and better opportunity, which would drive out the ability of terrorists and terrorism to return to communities.”

She noted that it was one thing to root out terrorists from communities, but the government must also provide sustainable policing, community security, better services, and good governance, otherwise, the terrorists would always be back.

“The way terrorists get into communities and destroy the fabric of the nation is ‘an evil thing.’ We think that Nigeria, with our support, needs to address this in a holistic way. However, what we are trying to do now in our collaboration with the government is to integrate the air and ground approach to security.”

Commending Nigeria for its leadership in the Economic Community of West African States, she said, “We need a regional approach to this problem because these terrorists are running across borders, and we all need to work together. Nigeria plays a huge role not only for its own security but also for the security of the region, through the ECOWAS.”

Nuland, who also met with some members of civil society organisations to discuss the forthcoming 2023 general election among other issues, noted that the U.S. was very pleased with the new Electoral Act and also the longer period for campaigns towards the elections.

She said, “We’re very pleased with the new Electoral Act and also the longer period for campaigns towards the elections. The United States will support the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the police, to provide security because we know there is quite a bit of anxiety about that.”

After 33 years as a U.S. diplomat, she served as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs from September 2013 until January 2017 under President Barack Obama.

She served as Special Envoy and chief negotiator on the Treaty on Conventional Arms Control in Europe from 2010 – 2011, and as Deputy National Security Advisor to Vice President Cheney from 2003-2005. In addition to two tours at NATO in Brussels, she had served overseas in Russia, China, and Mongolia, and various assignments at the State Department in Washington.

The Nigerian Air Force can quickly establish Air Superiority with its JF-17 Thunder 4.5 Generation Fighter Jets and the Navy with a compliment of Naval Fire Support establish a beach head and persistent sea presence. We know there's nothing the Southies can do. There's no military solution to our invasion.

A command from the President and C-in-C of the Nigerian Armed Forces the CDS in Abuja can swiftly deploy 2 × combat brigades from the elite 1st Mechanized Division Kaduna, 1× Combined Arms Elements from the 82 Division Enugu and 1× Armoured Tank Column, Jos into the streets of South Africa, probe and break every resistance, quickly overrun Cape Town and capture Pretoria, Johannesburg and appoint a Nigerian Military Administrator.

As per drones long story short the Russians have made very good use of lasers though under reported and correctly so because the Russians try as much as possible to keep their tricks in the bag just like their befuddled doctrine in this war which have put classroom-textbook military strategy in redundancy.

Another effective Russian element in this war is electronic countermeasures which despite all western help basically makes the Ukrainians target practice in a war they can't win not today not tomorrow. It was a mistake. A loosing war.

Modularity of the OPV does not automatically make it more lethal to suddenly become a light frigate.

Never has the manufacturer and end-user referred to the OPV as a light frigate. I'm trying to understand where you brought thr nomenclature from?

Classification varies in Navies. Performance relative between Corvette and OPV is subjective as the latter, permit me to say is more "sea friendly" for lack of a better word, more cost effective especially in peace time making it a darling of Navies. Here again I repeat its modular design makes it in Nigerian strategic Naval plans a "Light Frigate" or if you must a "Missile Vessel" (they are all vessels anyway) - nomenclature which varies is based mostly on speed, size, armaments, weapons systems & technology etc) primarily dedicated to Anti-Surface Warfare & Anti-Air Warfare.

As per current official NN Naval plans we haven't seen clear need for Corvettes rather OPVs, Frigates, LSTs, H-vessels & submarines.

The incoming new vessels is not the only new modular designed ship been ordered. Strategically military planners in Abuja plan for a hybrid warfare & decision advantages where Hard Assets can be game changing multiplier effects in critical performance areas hence as you would read in this purchase not all information about its systems are divulged both from manufacturer and the end user.

And I must state your intellectual aplomb is a welcome development on a platform with majority myopi.c, i.ll-mannere.d ignorant.s. I will never dignify i.llteracy rather eradicate it.

The modular design makes it a Light Frigate; it can be quickly fitted with missiles in event of war. Weapon manufacturers lobby, market and produce weapons systems and military equipments to meet customers requirements.

Please show us valid proof from NN is a Corvette. Officially is an OPV in peace time.

Kabe1 I beg to disagree with the submission on the KA-52 as per the armour protection levels compared to say the MI-35M. You might want to check that out, I stand corrected but the MI-35M is known for rigours not so the KA-52.

The NN has mastered the skill set for sea borne Helicopter Operations. Right now in sub-saharan Africa the Nigerian Navy leads.
