BusinessFor Life's Lessons, Failure Is More Important Than Success by CPriest(op): 5:43pm On Jan 11, 2016
Have I failed before? Yes.
Have I failed many times? Yes
.

Let me share some with you - without sparing much details causes of my failures.

1. My greatest failures are due to lost opportunities. I can go on and on listing the great opportunities I have let slip by. Once a man came from Canada and when we were discussing, he said "If you were doing all these stuff you mentioned, you should not be here" and he had not even heard much of what I had been involved with.

2. No partnership. Some opportunities can not just be run alone. Any good entrepreneur must learn to pursue whatever would make their vision a reality. Partnerships with strategic individuals could sometimes mean getting off or remaining static. 50% of N50m is better than 100% of 2.5m!

3. No concerted action. Just like #2, there is only so much you can do by your own efforts. Some business ideas require a gamut of skills and inputs to real take off well. Most times I try to do everything. And end up failing.

4. Going big. Most people would love to grow their businesses. A lot of businesses die when owners attempted to grow big. In my case I was setting up satellite locations and this ended up affecting the business.

5. Lack of focus. Some of my failure was due to not letting some ideas be. Rejecting some moves may be much more profitable than taking them.

6. Naira. I have done business when Naira was 80 to the $. Did it when it was 115. When it became 145 to the $, I had to bow out. I was dealing US and at those levels, it was impossible to continue the business.

Quantifying what could have been is hard, the value of losses in term of time is over 10 years effort. In terms of cash, several millions.
Of my 6 reasons for failing, 5 had to do with me (internal factors). But I am grateful to God I could still do something again. Not easy, but that doesn't matter.

... she sometimes does storage business (food stuff) hence her saving capability

Let her go find another job, while she is at it, let her continue whatever got her N1.5m. If she is desperate to do business, 0k to 50k is enough for her. Also, business isn't all/only about capital. Factors of production? Land, Labour, Entrepreneurship, Capital. Am I right? So she has got only capital and capital alone isn't enough.

Which niche do you guys think will be profitable? I think the top ones could be dating related domains and service related domains to name a few.
There are so many niches, but I will rather say go for any nice name. Even if it is only a few thousands of potential users, it is still worth it if it is a good name. Someone on NL wants to sell BuyBackup, I posted FindYourRV yesterday. In my own case, I shop for good name, niche or no niche.

I really don't know much on this types of domain. How does one go From here. How do u make ur analysis.
My man, it is better to leave them for now, and then study the sales of such names on Namepros and Flippa.
Or go to brandbucket and see what sort of names are on sale there (don't bother or follow the pricing per se). Infact I think Brandbucket will show you better things.

ollykay619:
I am still a learner too o,
1. I picked the ones that are pronounceable, even though almost all are pronounceable
2. Easy to remember.
3. Brandable (not sure though, cos I don't really know much about this)
4. Personal choice.
A little idea I have about brandable, for example Konat. Com can be used by any firm, be it drug, mobile, tech, design, anything, also Vazop ND Mowpa too. My own idea though , I might be wrong o. Oga Cpriest oya judge me.
Ollykay619 is getting it, your idea is right and I love your selection. Konaq, Texfy, Yagdo are nice. Meaningless but useful.

Guys, hot domains are real! There are two of those names I hid. Then there was one - I don't know why it's not in the list... It is actually some people's surname. And it is 5-letters. All these names I selected expired yesterday. Am sure by now they are all gone!

HealthEbola Killed 7, Lassa Has Killed 35. Please Beware. by CPriest(op): 8:49am On Jan 07, 2016
It is amazing that more people have been killed in six weeks by Lassa fever than Ebola killed.

There is therefore need to ensure you are aware. Do not panic. Just know something deadly is around and then protect yourself and your family.

The facts
1. Outbreak is currently confirmed in about eight states
2. It has killed 35 and infected 74
3. It shows up between 7 to 21 days after infection
4. It is transmitted by rats
5. Can be contacted from an infected human
6. It can be treated especially if diagnosed on time
7. Symptoms are mild and undiagnosed in early states, thus making the disease deadly
8. Nursing mothers are said to be more at risk

Symptoms
Mild symptoms include slight fever, general malaise and weakness, and headache. In 20% of infected individuals, however, disease may progress to more serious symptoms including hemorrhaging (in gums, eyes, or nose, as examples), respiratory distress, repeated vomiting, facial swelling, pain in the chest, back, and abdomen, and shock. Neurological problems have also been described, including hearing loss, tremors, and encephalitis.

Death may occur within two weeks after symptom onset due to multi-organ failure. The most common complication of Lassa fever is deafness. Various degrees of deafness occur in approximately one-third of infections, and in many cases hearing loss is permanent. As far as is known, severity of the disease does not affect this complication: deafness may develop in mild as well as in severe cases. Approximately 15%-20% of patients hospitalized for Lassa fever die from the illness. However, only 1% of all Lassa virus infections result in death.

What to do
1. Please maintain good hygiene.
2. If you didn't hate rats before, please do now. Carefully apply rat poison if you are in rat infested zone
3. Cases of fever should not be taken as a visit-the-pharmacy / self medication thing. Try see qualified health practitoners

Government says - “Healthcare workers seeing a patient suspected to have Lassa Fever should immediately contact the epidemiologist in the State Ministry of Health or call the Federal Ministry of Health using the following numbers: 08093810105,08163215251, 08031571667 and 08135050005."

Guys... How do you go about the pricing thinghuh

Someone made an Enquiry for 1 of my domains 5days ago and I still don't know what to reply. This is my supposed 1st sale.

Estibot valuation: 120$

Siteprice.org valuation: 2443$ grin

I don't want to sell for too little and I don't want to also scare away the buyer.

@ 2sex iykepromotions cpriest and all gurus in the house.
Although you should have responded, but it is nice you took sometime. Suspense is part of this game. However to the pricing thing, it all depends on you. Since we don't know the domain name - is it .com? Is it a high-demand keyword? etc so, I can't advise so much, but

a. You can ask the person to make an offer
b. Find out how much such domains sold for
c. Find out how much such domains are listed for in marketplaces
d. Be nice and just sell at 50x or 100x your initial cost (if you bought at $2, sell at $200). But watch, don't let it be too ridiculous.

BusinessRe: Making Regular Income Publishing Amazon Kindle Ebooks by CPriest: 5:56am On Dec 30, 2015
girlfromafrica:
@MK82

I have followed this thread closely and almost too passionately not just because of the prospect of passive income but from knowing that I can make money doing what I love; writing. Thanks for starting this thread.

I have published three books to date. Below are the links:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SLXAD5U

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NH0NJUS

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SLXABXO

However, I have only been able to get very very few sales. I have tried all sorts of free and paid promotion. I really don't think my books are as hideous as my sales make them look. I have about twenty other books to write but sales from my first three books are discouraging. Please could you kindly give me your opinion on this matter? Also are kindle books still profitable?
Please I am open to advice and criticisms from everyone. Thanks.
usermane:
From the little experience i got on this, it takes way more than a good book to make it on Kindle. In addition to writing a well researched and detailed book, you need to polish your text to captivate readers. Be it fiction or non-fiction, the presentation and pacing of your writing could be a deal breaker.
Hi, permit me to make a few observations about the last link (well that was the only one I checked). I mean the Wear an Ugly Bra, You're Single: A book for singles couples would wish they'd read

Don't see this as a harsh matter please, take as if I am a "co-investor" keen on you getting happy results with this book.

a. If you can, remove the a book for singles couples would wish they'd read. That phrase has no business on your front page. Sounds self-praising, it is poorly constructed, and you aren't keen on couples but on singles. It also shrouds the beauty of the topic. Bylines(is that what its called?) look terrible on Amazon books by the way. It looks good on the cover but on the book order page, it is bad. So the shorter the title, the better.

b. To the description of the book, it started with haven - please correct that. I had to go check again and again to be sure I was not wrong thinking you were wrong. Haven is not the right word for what you intended saying there.

c. Again on the description - The formatting is terrible. No paragraphs. Please reformat.

d. Again on the description - too hard to read. What is the MAIN point you've got in the book? Types of singles? Enjoy singlehood? Single and happy? It should be distinct.

This book explores the power and freedom of a single woman and also gives valuable advice to any single woman hoping to find love someday.
- This is the best statement of that description (in my own opinion). Though to me it should be reworked and given a stronger punch. For instance hoping to find love someday could be "waiting for her dream guy". Then what age are you writing to? "Single woman" is not for under 21s I think.

e. I "looked inside" your book, you've got good material, you've got a nice way of writing too. But you need to make it simpler. Focus is also necessary. You have a lot of things being said in the same space. One point to a space is better.

f. I looked inside and saw "double" - I was confused till I read the book the second time. If you can, change it. Why? Even if your market is Nigeria (and I doubt that), we don't use double for people who are in a relationship. I get that you quoted the word, but it makes it harder for your book to flow. This non-fiction, and it may be better to use words that everyone is familiar with.

g. Contents - Your table of contents show the same issue I raised in f. Focus. Choose one aspect of what you want to say and beat it to death, resurrect it and beat it to death again. Your book has five parts or so, and within each part are a variety of topics. Typically Nigerian, but you need to refine.

I will repeat this, you are good. You have the content, you only need to study how great books read, and flow. If only we had great publishing houses in Nigeria that had systems to turn raw works into gem, yours will have been a great book. But you have to do it all by yourself. It will take time but your book is worth it.

Do not compare your book with "books written solely to make money". Yours is a "work", and if you work on it, you may make a name from it.

Some of my suggestions are things you can clear up in 5 minutes (e.g Haven, description formatting and rewrite). Others are things that require much work, but even if you don't implement them now, I would advise you take note of them for the sake of the other 20 books you are writing.

Do you have a blog?
