2kurupt:I'm not sure I understand the point you are trying to make. Are you trying to say having NFC on a Lumia devices is useless if other phones don't have them? If that's indeed what you are referring to, then it's funny because it's like saying my smartphone's Bluetooth is useless because a Nokia torchlight device doesn't have Bluetooth connectivity. Not all phones have NFC. You cannot blame a device for having a feature other devices do not have. If you come across another phone that has NFC, good for you because it makes it easier to share files; if not, use another means of connectivity. |
2kurupt:Lack of NFC? Where? |
donhils:Firstly, it's not Lumia's fault your network fluctuates. Blame that on your network provider. Secondly, I made it very clear that Windows Phone has its setbacks. The app problem is one of the major problems the OS face. Some of the apps that are considered important aren't on the store. The reason is because many developers do not believe in Windows Phone. For some of the apps that aren't available, there are third party apps, some of which perform poorly. And major apps such as BBM, Instagram, WhatsApp and the rest do not come with complete features. That can be very annoying. I use a Windows Phone myself and I am very aware of its problems. Downloading files is also another issue; exiting your browser only to return and realize your download has stopped. There are also other problems I face with the device, problems I find exceedingly annoying, but it hasn't changed the fact that Windows Phone is a remarkable device. I'm speaking for myself here. I had some perks using my Lumia; my battery lasted longer, as well as my data plan. Something you can't say for most Android devices. The user face was a new experience. Smooth and all. But with time, I found it boring. But that's just me. To solve the app issue, Microsoft has made it possible for you to download Android apps with the Windows 10 Mobile update. The update also comes with a refined UI and a lot of changes. Like I said, the Windows 10 Mobile update promises more improvements. So I won't completely write Windows Phones off. |
donhils:Your assumption that people purchase Lumia devices just to make and receive calls is very wrong and based on the fact that you know nothing about the devices. Lumia devices are known for their durability, great camera, and remarkable battery life. The app store doesn't have as many apps as Android or iOS stores, but the basic apps are available. The UI is sleek and sophisticated, although not completely customizable. Lumia devices have their drawbacks, but they are very good devices nonetheless and offer value for your money. Besides, Microsoft promises a new Windows 10 Mobile update that promises a better experience. So before you judge a device based on wrong assumptions, try to research about it first. |
Demigods:Oh? I'm sorry. Well carry on then. Please, do not stop being immature. ![]() |
Bigroti:Alright. It makes more sense then. |
Bigroti:Seen. I still think the title isn't suitable. Because there is no relationship between the prices you mentioned. You can't say they are all cheap, because they are not. There is no underlying factor that brings the different prices together. This post has more to do with features and specifications than it does price. So the title still seems unsuitable. But this is just me. |
Demigods:Calling someone a fool to prove a point does not make you superior. It does not make your argument more valid than the other person's. Any civilized person knows this. Calling someone names only portrays you as immature, and it invalidates your point. It won't cost you anything to lay down your argument like a properly-mannered person. This is not secondary school, you don't have to be rude. |
The words 'affordable', 'cheap', and 'expensive' are relative. What it means to you might differ from what it does to another person. Some of the phones listed here range from around N35,000 to N40,000. N40,000 might seem expensive to you, but to another person it might seem like the value of N20,000. I believe the writer of this post made his list according to his pocket and what he deems reasonable. If you are unsatisfied and you disagree with the list, create one of you own; one that agrees with your understanding of the word 'affordable'. In a sense though, the title of this post is wrong. The writer should have taken into consideration that the word 'affordable' is relative, and should have tailored his post to fit his audience. In this case, 'affordable' should mean anything from N35,000 downwards. N80,000 does not qualify as 'affordable' to an average Nigerian. The writer should have picked a different title - or a different post - as some of the devices on the list do not agree with the average Nigerian's understanding of the word 'affordable'. |
Chidexter:It falls under $200. It is a mid-ranger. |
liberty300:Who knows? Maybe they have. |
Chidexter:Motorola Moto G was on the list. |
None. These are promotional plans. They aren't genuine. You do not get exactly what Airtel promises. 1GB under this plan is like 275MB. Basically, Airtel masks around 800MB as 3GB and sell it to clueless customers at a supposedly cheap price. Do not fall a victim. |
DrayZee:He's right to have called the device a scam. This device was referred to as a flagship device and it cost more than the others. And for a device that cost that much, it should have had remarkable after-sales service. It didn't. It didn't offer enough value for the customer's money. The customer has every right to complain. |
Xiaomi Redmi 2, maybe? It's one of the few phones that offer so much at affordable prices. Plus it's a pretty device. |
Hello. Where is the 'hands-on review'? |
chidexxy007 Neither. Xiaomi is coming to the African market next month. I recommend you keep your N25,000 for now. If possible save up a few thousands and buy one of their devices. You might want to check out the Xiaomi Redmi 2 and bask in the euphoria of its cool specifications, sleek design and affordable price ($160 which translates to about N34,000). - http://m.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_is_planning_to_enter_the_africa_market_this_september-news-13657.php I'm typing this because it might be annoying for you to realize that you've bought an Infinix device a couple of weeks before Xiaomi enters the African market. By now you're wondering what's so special about Xiaomi. Well, they offer very good products with great features, and they are known worldwide to be one of the top Chinese makers of Android devices, giving brands like Samsung, LG, and HTC a run for their money. I'd love to explain more, but that would take too much time. But I suggest that you read about them before you rush to purchase any other device. |
dasphinx1:Microsoft did not kill the Nokia brand name. There was in a limited license agreement between Nokia and Microsoft that gives Microsoft the right to use the Nokia and Lumia brands for marketing for 18 months. In other words, Nokia gave away its brand name for a limited time. This deal ends some time next year, and when it does, Nokia would be free to create whatever smartphone they desire under their name. Hopefully, they tread the Android path. |
Mean? So you would rather remain with a company that doesn't encourage your growth because you are afraid quitting would be mean? Don't be silly. You have the opportunity to work in a company looking to invest in your growth. There aren't much companies like that. If I were in your shoes, I'd grab that opportunity. Never let a good opportunity pass you by because you are afraid someone will get hurt. Remember that growth and self-development are very essential in any line of work, and any company that isn't willing to provide the opportunity for you to grow isn't worth it. |
The title of this post is dull and uninspiring. I've seen people do that so many times on here; comparing a device to a popular device so it catches people's attention; and it has become stale and boring. Why does the Xiaomi have to be 'Samsung's killer' anyway? Why does it have to be associated with another product before it can matter? Don't you feel Xiaomi is a good enough device in its own right and can stand alone? If you do, then why must you bring Samsung into the equation? Can't you write about a product without making it seem like it is constantly at war with Samsung or iPhone or whatever top brand? How is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 device a Samsung Note 5 killer anyway? You didn't explain. You just came, dropped a dull title, listed specifications (and by this the Note 5 trumps Redmi Note 2) and left. So in essence, your post didn't even live up to the title you chose for it. |
Youngpo413:There might not be one. The Infinix device is only available to the African market and GSM Arena will not post the specifications of any device that isn't available worldwide. At least that's what I think. An example is the Samsung Galaxy Core Max. It was released last year in China alone. They blogged about it but they never posted the specifications of the device. |
olamieseun:If you are unsatisfied with MTN's services then you should abandon the network. No one is holding a knife to your neck and forcing you to use any network. It isn't anyone's business if you feel you are being cheated by your network provider. That's your problem. It isn't anyone's fault MTN stole from you, it is your fault for remaining with them long enough for them to continue stealing from you. Rather than going about asking people to 'get a life', you might want to do something about your rude and petty nature. |
Hello! I just watched your video and I would like to make a few recommendations, if you don't mind. The camera wasn't placed right. I didn't get a satisfactory view of the device you were unboxing. There were moments where I had to tilt my device to be able to get a balanced picture. Video bloggers tend to set up cameras on tripods or wear helmet cameras. It helps in making the picture properly structured and less shaky. The lighting was dull and as a result, the picture was dark. You might want to use lighting equipments to brighten up your videos. Sound output was also low. Getting a microphone might give your videos vibrancy. And it's pronounced 'why-fy', not 'wee-fee'. All in all, I appreciate that you take the time to make review videos. Keep up the good work. |
dustmalik:Yes, I liked that you ignored. You sound like one too. |
ige101:"I blame it on Nairaland that made it possible for everyone to create threads anyhow." So basically, you are saying it's Nairaland's fault someone chooses to express his freedom of speech? Perhaps you should drive to the nearest police station and report the poster for taking advantage of his rights. You might also want to report the moderators for granting people the opportunity to express their freedom of speech. |
Bennydballs Xiaomi and OnePlus are some of the top Anroid brands in the Chinese market giving Samsung and the likes a run for their money. I can't say the same for Infinix, but I know Lenevo is walking the path towards becoming a major competitor also. There might be some problems, however. These devices (except for Lenovo) were made for the Asian market so replacing parts might pose problems for you. |

Firstly, what phone do you use? Because most of the problems you mentioned are as a result of your phone. Like 1, 2 and 4 for example. It's not Android's fault that your phone hangs and overheats. It's not Android's fault that your phone's battery drains faster. Perhaps you should change your device and get a good one with better battery power and durable hardware. Android does drain data. But there is a solution to this; deactivate background tasks for apps that use the most data. With respect 5, you should study apps before you download them. Android provides a platform whereby a wide range of apps are promoted. Because of this, substandard apps find their way to the platform. It is your job to separate authentic apps from substandard ones. Read app details to learn about the developer, read user reviews, check ratings. They always help. Don't just download apps blindly. |
Bennydballs:What do you look for in a phone? I might be able to give a detailed recommendation. ![]() |
Ijaya123 So you're saying Samsung ripped off iPhone's designs. Alright. Great. Now, did you know the designs of Apple products were inspired by Braun's products? Steve Jobs once said that he admired the works of Braun's designer and as it appears, this admiration is reflected on Apple products. In other words they copied. - http://www.cultofmac.com/188753/the-braun-products-that-inspired-apples-iconic-designs-gallery/ Also, a Chinese phone company has claimed the design of the iPhone 6 was ripped off from one of their phones. The designs of the iPhone 6 looks pretty similar to that of the Chinese company's product. - http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/12/03/did-apples-iphone-6-copy-this-chinese-companys-design/ People have also come out to say the Apple watch copied Samsung. Apple is popularly known for calling out companies such as Samsung and Xiaomi for copying their designs. But they are major copycats themselves. Like I said, it's normal for tech companies to rip each other off. It's their way of competing. And this is common knowledge in the world of technology. But you won't know that because you've chosen to listen to Apple's side of the story while ignoring the other side. Because Apple pointed fingers first doesn't make them pristine. They copy too. |
Ijaya123:Please give me at least three things Samsung copied from Apple. I'd like to know. |
Femistico:The phone was not made for you in the first place. It was made for those who can afford it. I'm sure Apple is more concerned about their millionaire customers than they are about getting you into heaven. |
