If I understand you correctly, you are finding it difficult to choose between a job that offers good pay, lots of opportunities, and the chance to travel the world and meet new people, and a job that offers security but keeps you grounded. That isn't so hard, is it? I have never found government jobs to be fascinating. If anything, I find them to be unadventurous and monotonous as you are going to keep doing the same thing until you've had enough. I find government jobs to be routine, and nothing bores faster than routine. But this is just me. You said you have always wanted to be a lecturer, and I feel that if it's your dream, you wouldn't find it boring. However, a multinational job isn't such a bad thing. If it is job security you are worried about, I believe there are ways to ensure job security. Further your education, gather additional skills relevant to your work, and turn yourself into an asset; it is difficult for multinationals to lay off workers who have become assets rather than liabilities. Some multinationals will even pay for you to further your education and gain additional skills. Government jobs might be secure; steady pay and all; but that's all you get from it. There's hardly anyone who cares if you're improving yourself or not. If there's a common characteristic among government workers, it's that some of them, if not most, are unenthusiastic about anything. As long as they're getting steady pay, they're fine. And I feel that's a boring environment to want to grow in. But with multinationals come competition; everyone wants to be better at something. And there's no better motivation like competition; it gets you on your feet and compels you to give your all. And you will be recognized for doing so. There is also exposure and the opportunity to explore the world. And that's a great combination, don't you think? If I were in your shoes, I'd pick the opportunity to work in a vibrant environment, improve myself, and gain exposure over anything else. Because let's be honest, that combination is what gets you places. Being grounded just keeps you in one place. And I'm not so sure I'd like to remain in one place because the pay is steady. That would be boring. But this is just me. At the end of the day, you have to follow whatever it is you believe in, even if other people do not agree. |
samuelson06:Perhaps you are right; he may not be who he claims to be. But that does not give us reason to paint ourselves poorly in the eyes of everyone else, does it? Throwing insults, disrespecting people's parents, does that make us better than the 'supposed scammer'? I think not. Anyway, it was nice speaking with you. Do have a wonderful day. ![]() |
samuelson06:He is probably referring to me. I corrected him and regarded his replies to the poster as childish and petty, and he decided I was in cohorts with the original poster. I'm not so sure how he came to that conclusion (although I'm guessing anyone who doesn't praise his insulting skills and follow his footsteps in attacking the poster will probably appear as a scammer in his books), and I'm not surprised either, because he already sold himself short in his petty responses, and so I didn't expect much from him. But it only shows one thing; that this Philadelphia person isn't used to being corrected. But I am of the opinion that if someone chooses to dwell in error, let them do so freely. ![]() But that aside, you see how calm the poster was? How his replies were without insults? I find that intriguing; how someone can remain calm even when everyone else threw insults at them. And that part were Philadelphia called him 'bast.ard son of a thousand fathers', he remained cool because he knew he didn't have to resort to insults to prove his point. I like that about him. I'm not sure of his claims, but I like that his replies were mature than some of the replies here. He stood firm like a brick wall, while everyone yelled all sorts of insults at him. I don't know about anyone else, but I believe we can all learn from this attitude. I should also add; anyone who feels they need to throw insults to prove a point isn't worth engaging. And anyone who would insult people's parents so relentlessly probably doesn't have respect for theirs. Because if you understand the value of your parents, if you understand what someone's mom or dad means to them, you wouldn't insult their parents. If you hold your own parents in high esteem, you wouldn't go about trying to bring other people's parents down. I appreciate that you set Philadelphia straight. I don't condone jabs at people's parents and I like that you are that way too. Thank you. ![]() |
serah88:You are welcome. Tell your sister I said good luck. ![]() |
I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound rude, but confirming if companies are real is something you should be able to do yourself. Whenever you receive texts like these, you only need to ask yourself a few questions; - Did I apply to this company? - Some people receive text messages inviting them for interviews, and because are agitated, they forget to question whether or not they applied to that particular company. There is no reason you should be receiving texts from a company you did not apply to. This is the first rule. - Is the company real? - Google is always there to confirm the existence of a company or if they are genuine. If they are, it is most likely they will have an online presence; a website, and social media accounts. - Why an interview on a weekend? - It isn't unlikely to receive interview invites on a weekend, but if any organization should invite you for an interview, either on a weekday or a weekend, they will have sent you a notification a few days before the interview date, not a day before. Only sloppy organizations will not give you proper time to prepare for an interview; sloppy organizations or scammers. - Why text messages and no emails? - This another way to decide how serious a company is. Some companies will take the time to compose emails with interview invites, other companies will send emails and texts notifying you that you have an invite in your inbox. Other companies just send texts. These are the lazy companies and most likely scammers. - Do these company have contact details? - Sometimes you find a phone number in the text messages received. You should call that number to speak with whoever sent the text. Speaking with them is a good way to tell if the company is a big deal. Sometimes, an indian answers the phone and complains that he isn't aware of any company recruiting anyone and that his phone number is being used by scammers to carry out recruitment exercises; other times, people with poor communication skills answer at the other end. And that begs the question; what kind of serious organization has an illiterate as a call centre representative? If after asking all these questions you aren't convinced the company is genuine, then avoid attending the interview. I hope I have been able to be of help. |
dammytosh:I don't use religion to back up my arguments for the simple reason that religion is different across the world. I should also add that a Christian home is not the same as a dictatorship. You seem to be mixing the two up. I do not condone misogyny or chauvinism in the inferiority of women, which you seem to think is okay because 'the Bible said so'. Sometimes, people misinterpret the Bible to suit them, which is what you are doing. You were raised in a society that backs patriarchy; our culture is highly misogynistic; so it's hard for you to believe a woman can be your equal. You are not used to the idea and you feel threatened by it, I can tell. And for you to make yourself sleep better at night, you use the Bible to back up your claim. You believe you were born to be pleased; that it is your right for everything to go your way. I hate to break it to you brother, but no one owes you anything. If anyone does anything for you, it is because they wish to, not because they owe you. But we are all entitled to our views, and I believe you are entitled to yours, which is why I won't argue this any further. - Know this though, there once was a time when women weren't allowed to speak unless spoken to; when women weren't allowed to contribute to issues because no one thought highly of them; when women could not vote; when women had no access to education because people felt they did not need it; even the Bible is against women speaking in church. But now everything's changed; we have female bosses, female political figures, women can now speak in church and contribute to its development. My point? Change is constant. It might take long, but it will definitely come. Society is fast changing and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Have yourself a nice day. ![]() |
coolsix:It's always nice to come across guys like you who do not feel threatened by equality. I appreciate your views. |
dammytosh:But it is your words that led me to that conclusion. According to you, the wife of any man who understands and expresses gender equality will definitely end up in a beer parlor. Correct me if I'm wrong, please, but you did try to paint gender equality as a factor that leads women into making wrong decisions. And in a way, you made it seem like women will make dumb decisions if they don't involve their husbands. I find that highly offensive and derogatory. |
HaneefahRN:I do understand where you are coming from, and I respect your views. The issue of modesty is another thing entirely. I do not think any sane wife will involve herself in any job that is indecent. People are different; while some women are indecent, others are modest. And if your wife will take an indecent job (and this is in response to dammytosh - who seem to think any woman who understands her rights and how to express them will definitely end up a prostitute), then perhaps you did not pick the right person to marry in the first place. |
missKiffy HaneefahRN I agree that it is backwards for a woman to still ask for permission from her husband to work. This is the 21st century; everyone has rights to explore their dreams and be whatever they wish to be. And it isn't right for the possibility of a woman's dreams to come true to be dependent on her husband. Because what then is her life's purpose? Why is she alive of she can't truly 'live'? Women have moved from a time when their opinions were irrelevant to a time where they can truly change the world. But when their dreams to become great is dependent on their husbands, then there is a real problem. Marriage shouldn't be a boss-employee relationship. It should be more of two teammates working to improve each other. Notice I didn't say 'one person'? Because marriage is a two-way street. While a wife should encourage her husband to be the best he can be, a husband should also encourage his wife to be the best she can be, not just in her marriage, but in the career she chooses to pursue. He should encourage her to pose as a good example for his children, his sons and his daughters; so that they too can look at their mother and be proud that she is good at something other than homemaking; so that while their peers are bragging about their mother's cooking skills, they can chime in and yell 'My mother isn't just a great cook, she saves lives for a living; she's a surgeon!' But how can we achieve this if we believe a woman can do nothing without her husbands permission? No woman is any man's slave. It's her husbands role to advice her the way she advices him, and not to 'dictate' to her. It's is a marriage after all, not a tyranny. The purpose of marriage is to help each other grow, not to hold the key to the other person's growth in a locker and have them come to you for permission to access it. By now you should know where I stand; I am all for gender equality. I do not believe the male gender is superior to the female gender. And I do not believe the female gender is inferior to the male gender. We all have the same access to life in this world, and we all have the opportunity to explore it in our own way. And I do not believe anyone, male or female, requires permission from another person to explore life the way they choose. I try not to use religion to back up my arguments because religion is different all around the world, and you cannot use one religion to dictate how people around the world (who have different beliefs) should live their lives, but there is a part in the Bible that states, 'there is neither male nor female, for you are all equal in Christ' (Galatians 3:28). The Bible is contradictory, I know, but the verse clearly illustrates my point; we shouldn't encourage women to feel lesser then men (asking for permission to explore your dreams speaks of nothing but inferiority), we should encourage them to be the best that they can be as career women, as mothers, as wives, as political figures. It's okay if a woman choses to be a housewife; the whole point of Feminism is that a woman expresses her right to choose, so I don't judge. But if a woman wishes to go the extra mile, it's her decision and no one should take that away from her. One thing people regret on their deathbed is that they never got to live life the way they wanted. It's unfair to subject women to this fate. Besides, if a woman is destined to be great, what husband can say no? What 'permission' will stand in her way? Her husband's? Absolutely not. |
Liberace:Would be happy to help. |
Liberace:Alright. I would have opted for a Xiaomi device rather than a Tecno. Or perhaps a Samsung Galaxy J7 (if big phones are your thing) or Galaxy A5 (if chic phones are your thing). But all in all, it's your preference that matters. ![]() |
I hope you didn't get a Windows Phone as those come with lots of issues. I also hope you didn't opt for a Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime. |
Philadelphia:Then I think we both might be shallow. Because I did not 'put my mouth where it doesn't concern me', like you actually said, I typed out, with my fingers, a reply to your comment. You see how you contradict yourself? Plus I'm sure everyone understand metaphors and their usage. ![]() |
Philadelphia:I corrected your misuse of the word 'cynicism' and it means I am in cohorts with the supposed scammer? Aren't you brillant? (Spot the sarcasm?) 'Believing that people are generally selfish and dishonest.' By this meaning (that you posted yourself), the poster was correct in the use of the word. - Everyone on this thread believed the poster was being dishonest, and so they were cynical to his claims. So it's safe to say 'everyone expressed cynicism towards the poster's claims'. 'Why don't you put your mouth where it concerns you?' Mister, if you followed your own rules you wouldn't even be on this thread commenting on an issue that is of no concern to you. You contradict yourself everytime you open your mouth. And I find it amusing actually. |
Philadelphia:You are being childish. This reply is unnecessary and petty. I feel you could've just ignored. You already won - although I do not understand why you have to make it seem like a competition exists between you two. By the way, 'cynicism' means 'having a disbelief in others or not trusting them for some reason known only to you'. It has nothing to do with 'being dishonest or selfish'. Basically you are the one who used the word out of context, and wrongly, too. Perhaps you need to go back to your dictionary, cynical Philadelphia. |
pappyG:Thank you. One more thing, what was the job title? |
pappyG:Hello. If you don't mind telling me, how did you apply and what are your qualifications? |
Horlarmiday:You are in no position to ask anyone not to speak if they wish to. We all have a right to speak, don't we? And the very fact that you will try to silence a person from speaking out only shows us all the kind of employer you are; one who wants their workers to work and suffer in silence. Writers are not puppets, you cannot employ them to work for you without giving them any incentive whatsoever. Our economy is hard as it is. How can you ask someone to work for free for two months? Wouldn't they eat? Wouldn't they transport? Wouldn't they take care of their family? Where do you expect them to find income to pay for Internet subscriptions and electricity bills? Or do you expect them to steal in order to work for you? Would you as a person use your writing skill and intellectual property to work relentlessly for free? Don't be selfish. You're looking for slaves, not workers. You want to exploit your fellow Nigerian for your own selfish gain, and you want them to keep quiet while they do so. That is very wrong. You and the organization you represent are horrible people. An advice to job seekers; any organization expecting you to work relentlessly without any kind of incentive or stipend, and wants you to do so in silence (you see how this so-called employer tried to shut onyegwu up for daring to speak up?), is only looking to exploit you. Stay away. |

Yinkatolu:Hello Yinka. I am not sure what the aptitude test would look like. Perhaps you can search for threads relating to Pal Pensions to find out more. If you don't mind though, which position did you apply for? |
Zpykios Your explanation on the fingerprint scanner is wrong. Android Marshmallow does not miraculously put a fingerprint scanner on your device. It only supports the fingerprint sensor that comes with your device by making it possible for you to authenticate app purchases with your fingerprint or secure your phone. Without a fingerprint sensor installed on your device by your device manufacturer, you cannot take advantage of this Marshmallow feature. |
KuliMart Don't tell anyone to keep quiet. We are all entitled to our freedom of speech, aren't we? Nairaland is a forum and everyone comes here to share their unfiltered views that do not necessarily have to agree with yours. If this fact doesn't go down well with you then perhaps you shouldn't be here. I believe texazzpete only gave his views when he considered the price the device costs to be a good deal considering its specification. And it's not like he came up with the price himself. The exchange rate for ¥ to N is N31, and considering the prices the two variants of these phone come in (¥1299 and ¥1499), texazzpete isn't wrong. You should have explained that while this is Xiaomi's selling price, your own price would differ as you will have to take into consideration shipping expenses amongst other things; this is very understandable. Claiming texazzpete is looking to cause confusion by giving wrong figures didn't do you any good because he was not wrong; Xiaomi actually stated those figures as their selling price on their website. Except you want to claim that Xiaomi is the one causing confusion here. |
Bratking:I understand that. And it's why it advisable to buy power packs from trusted manufacturers, made especially for your device. Samsung makes power packs, so does Nokia, and who better to make power packs for your phone than the makers of those phones themselves? |
Bratking:In a way, you are right. If I replaced the 900mAh battery on the Nokia 3310 with a 3000mAh, it will probably last for weeks, longer than the few days it normally lasts. But unfortunately we are not talking about hypothetical situations but facts. And the fact is even with its small battery the Nokia 3310 lasts longer than most smartphones in existence today. And that's as a result of the hardware; the 3310 doesn't task its battery as much as other smartphones. The Galaxy A5 comes with an AMOLED display and that's an advantage, like you said. In my opinion, the 2300mAh battery it comes with isn't so bad. And really, I don't understand how battery life should still be considered a problem when power packs are in abundance these days. |
Bratking:When you say 'generally' how many people do you speak for? Because donhils just said the 3000mAh on his LG G3 isn't so good. |
Oyetboy:It is. I saw it at a Samsung Mobile Experience Store a couple of days ago. It's not a bad looking device. You should check it out when you have the time and play with it. Can I say something though? Next time, Google the contact number of a Samsung Mobile Experience Store near you and make enquiries about the availability of any device you wish to purchase. That way, you get firsthand information without having to come here. |

Absolutely no one.
