shymexx: Maybe, you need to check the thread about Lagos this morning - and a couple of other threads where I called ACN out for not being a proper opposition party, lacking ideas, and not doing enough for the people...You can ask Gbawe and Eko Ile how we go at it sometimes.. I don't believe in ACN's manifesto because the party is basically the same as PDP(extreme capitalists) on paper... However, I can't deny the fact that it's still the lesser devil...

Politricks isn't my thing - I critique everything I don't agree with - ACN, PDP, PFF or whatever the fvck their names are... A better Nigeria is all I care about, period!!
So at least you cleaned up your lie about me being a PDP apologist grin How you got "I love PDP from I hate them all" only one God knows.

shymexx: Comprehension has never been your forte - can you cite where I called America a 5th world country?? And who give a hoot about what Nigerians think - I debate academics on the GuardianUK CIF and I'm one of the most rated commenter on there, that's all I care about...

WTF is there for me in Nigeria atm apart from the oil?? I've no immediate family over there - so what am I looking for in a country where 90% of the population is either half-asleep, or just exist for the sake of it on this planet?? I only march with people who're awake and proactive!!

Maybe, you need to get a map and see how massive the city is compared to most Southern cities... And with the humid weather over there, don't you think most people would rather stay indoors than roam the streets?? That's like expecting people to be roaming the streets at the peak of winter in the West... You need to use your brain more often!! Jheez!!

Utter tosh!! The roads on the thread are some of the best roads I've seen(in Nigeria) since I started posting on this forum... How about give them props for having better roads than most of the Southern cities??

It's not on me, it's on the lousy Nigerians all over the internet!

Sokoto state is almost the same size as the whole of the SE and its population is about 1/5 of the SE, so what do you expect?? Do you have any idea about what population density is??

Blah blah blah - utter tosh!! I can see through your bs!!

The same London that birthed New York(the city of big rats), no?? London is everything New York will never be! Still the financial centre of the world - tell New York to stay playing catch-up! undecided
Well you are talking about my hone country....which is the United States of America cheesy

Lol you sure have a lot of unverified titles and accolades, despite never stepping foot in Nigeria you embody the Nigerian spirit, well done grin

How can you have no immediate family in Nigeria if you claim to have ancestry in Lagos.

Immediate family includes:

Someone’s spouse, parents and grandparents, children and grand children, brothers and sisters, mother in law and father in law, brothers in law and sisters in law, daughters in law and sons in law. Adopted, half, and step members are also included in immediate family. See also first degree relative.

So are you saying that most of your family is in the UK shocked When did they start handing out visas like that cheesy

The North has drier weather, the South has more humid weather due to the tropical surroundings. That's something your friends at Wikipedia can inform you of. Your London is constantly cloudy and dreary yet you still see folks out and about. People tend to roam about when there is something worth going out for. And yes in NYC and Chicago, streets are still busty even in Winter smiley

Props for what? Like I said, roads are not some new fangled technology being introduced. Nigerians deserve roads. Period. I'm not about to thank someone for doing their damn job.

According to the Nigerian census the North is heavily populated, so where are the people? How can Onitsha, according to the Nigerian census, with 500,000 people have busier roads than a place that is supposed to have a million plus residents cheesy

Of course its BS to someone who can only talk about Nigeria through Google images grin

London history of filth is well known, the rats London had in its history were more that NYC could ever amass in all its years of existence. The Black Plague, Cholera , and God knows what else called London home at one time or another.

NYC is the financial capital of the world not London. When America sneezes the world catches a cold is a saying for a reason cool
NYSE and NASDAQ are larger than London.

What are you blathering on about. Instead of wondering how on Earth can you have a cut off zero as a score needed to get into college you are here doubling up on your tribalism grin Grades are important because they are really one of the few quantifiable statistics that we have to determine if one is actually understanding the material. Or should we just judge based on feelings? "I guess you understand Algebra so you get to pass" cheesy Are they the end all be all? No, but how on Earth can you claim you want development in your country and can't even determine if your students know their left from their right.

The fact that you some how have a region detector for post s speaks more about you more than anything else in this thread.

You had people from the SE , SW, and etc criticizing this mockery of education and you only find time to look for SE people.

shymexx: I don't need to brag about what I've got and I don't brag about it, hence why I'm proud to associate myself with the ghetto where I was raised... I'm not ashamed of anything regardless of how you loose mouthed cretins from a 5th world cesspit always want to cite that... I'm self-made and I was getting paid when most of you clowns were still hiding under your parents... and I'm highly educated as well..

Nah, only a plonker will compare developments(no matter how small) in a 5th rate country to a 1st rate country... If you want to start the comparisons, how about let's compare filthy and God forsaken Detroit and New Orleans - to London(cities in 1st world countries)?? I give credit where it's due - and it's justified if the negativity I hear about how medieval the North is, is factored into the equation...

Till I start seeing you make the same comparisons on threads about Igbo cities - you'll always be a jealous bigot!!

Go find a new hubby or play with the big rats in New York!! undecided
But you just did brag,, but whatever dear. No one will say you were ever known for your cleverness tongue

America is 5th world. Good to know shocked

Yes because we all know know that everything said by everyone on the internet is true. I have a pony and and a 24kt gold plated bathtub grin Self made indeed. Why you get all this money and never find time to go to Nigeria grin They accept pounds in Naija grin

No one is even comparing Sokoto to a first world city development-wise, my comparison was based on the emptiness of the streets. From what I've heard this is supposed to be a pretty big town yet its so devoid of atmosphere in these pictures. You don't need to be busy like Lagos but its are to call yourself a city when the roads are bare like that. You see the same kind of emptiness in Detroit, a former boomtown.

The roads are ok, they suffer some of the same problems most Nigerian roads have. Lack of maintenance (redrawing of lines and cleaning up debris). But roads are a given to me, I expect a place of that size to have good roads and when I see Nigerian towns and cities lacking its a disgrace because its such a basic thing.

The fact that you think the North is medieval is on you, I've seen some Northern cities on SSC. The same thing decent roads and not much else.

South Eastern cities are busy, the roads are poor but I doubt that you can find empty streets in the SE like you have here. Which is what I was comparing grin

Once again please tell me what I should be jealous of? Things that have no bearing on my life grin Yes I am totally jealous of a country where electricity is a luxury, death trap roads, and the lack of essential services. How can I get in on this wonderland known as Nigeria grin

Lol are talking about London that is synonymous with filth. Lol half the case studies of disease in history come from London. You guys set the dirtiness trend others just follow. Even the filthiest place in NYC will be beat by our Cousins.

By the way are you not part of the Desola brigade that wants to make Lagos Yoruba only, yes you are the epitome of a non bigot grin

I bet anyone with a clear mind who has read tons of negativity about Northern Nigeria will definitely applaud this... We all hear about how medieval the North is, and how paradisiacal the South is - but pictures don't lie...
Jealous of what? At then end of the day I don't have to give a crap about Nigeria, I live in a country where the basics are all present. I care because I actually want to see Nigeria progress.

And how do I defend a region or ethnic group? I have no region and the last time I checked I'm African American which last time I checked is not among the 250 groups of Nigeria.

Nigeria's infrastructure is poor everywhere which I say all the time.

You have nerve to call anyone a bigot grin

ba7man: I know that dude....Always making comparisms of Nigeria and USA. Very unintelligent for doing that. Its almost as if he thinks both countries are on the same page. In a country where people are used to seeing pot-holed filled roads and dirt tracks, they'll definitely get excited seeing tarred roads but d fool can't process that info. A fool in Africa will remain one in the USA. The environment in Sokoto is not world-class or the best but at least they've started making an attempt to improve things. Progress might be slow but give it time and who knows where they'll end up. He reasons like he uses Crayola....that's even if he knows what it means.
Oh go jump off a cliff in a country blessed with all the natural resources that some countries dream of having you people are hear celebrating the bare minimum. No wonder Nigerian politicians think their citizens are id.ots. You accept mediocrity so there is no need to do better than the bare minimum.

In a country where people are used to seeing pot-holed filled roads and dirt tracks, they'll definitely get excited seeing tarred roads but d fool can't process that info.
Exactly my point, why is Nigeria still at this stage (let's even start at the point where Nigeria returned to democracy in '99)? I promise you that if we go back 10 years from now nothing will have changed, because hey "at least we got a road derp derp"

What does this damn country do with its money that roads, which are part an parcel of development should need a standing ovation? Only in Nigeria there will be ribbon cutting ceremonies for tiny roads, not a bridge or something of substantial importance...a road.

If you like you can stick a 64 count of crayola's up your a.s.s, I hear pompous and clueless fools like you enjoy that kind of thing.

Which credit cheesy I don't hand out undeserved credit.
This is supposed to be a large town or small sized city and it looks like its on its last leg. The place is like the towns in America where factories have closed up and the area is now a shell of its former self.

The roads are not even new, they are quite old by the fact that the street markings are no longer visible.

For someone who lives in public assistance housing a few green trees is all you need to be excited. Color me unimpressed.

I'm waiting to see the beauty. Nigeria by and large is a sad example of a project gone horribly wrong.

The photos look sad and depressing.
The buildings lack luster and brightness which is odd considering the decorative style Hausa people have for their traditional architecture.

Latvia! - enjoy!
Latvia’s economic crisis erased more than one-fifth of the country’s economic output, depressed incomes and put more people at risk of poverty, the International Monetary Fund said Tuesday, adding that the nation needs to work quickly to repair its social safety net.

“Income inequality deepened — the richest 20 percent of the population earn seven times more than the bottom 20 percent — and is now one of the highest in the” European Union.

“Latvia needs a comprehensive reform of the social safety system to improve incentives to work and help address poverty.”

You're not a fast learner!! GDP per capita shows the purchasing power of the people vis-a-vis the place - and nothing interests investors more than that... Coupled with the fact that the crime rate in Anambra is on another planet entirely!! The indices you posted are irrelevant in this context...

Investors will always consider Nigeria before Kenya gets a sniff... Heck, if Lagos were to be a country, they'll consider Lagos before Kenya!

Can you prove that??

It's always a choice better the DEVIL and the LESSER DEVIL!! At least ACN governors are still building infrastructures albeit still mediocre - what are the PDP governors and the ret.arded and clueless president doing?? Buying private jets and robbing Nigerians blind whilst driving the damn country into abyss!! If it were a sane world, all PDP governors(except Akwa Ibom) and the president would have been shot dead, roasted, and feasted on like the Beroms did the Fulani marauders!! Your Anambra state governor, Delta, and Abia's would definitely be the first three on the list!! I'm more of a Marxist and the only governor I like because of his ideology is the Osun governor(ACN) - however, the other ACN governors are still far better than anything PDP has to offer!

At least an ACN governor(Osun) is trying to do that - what are the PDP clowns doing?? Buying private jets and building hotels in Abuja!
Eastern Europe is not perfect but a lot of places are seeing good growth , Bulgaria is one.

Isn't Portugal, Italy, Spain, and Greece in Crisis mode? Are they not in Western Europe. You talk as if all of Western Europe is solvent when its really on Germany , Norway, and etc that are ok. UK is not doing well either which is why you people were rioting like Early 90's LA grin for a solid week almost. And were throwing rocks at Charles and Camille after school fee hikes. No one said all of Eastern Europe is doing well neither is all of Western Europe ok. They are committing suicide at high rates in Greece over the economy as we speak. undecided

No dear you are not a fast learner, if GDP was all that matters then the US should be number one in every ranking because we have more money per capita for a nation of our size. But we are poor when it comes to education, health care, and etc. cost of doing business here is less competitive than some of European counterparts and even next door neighbor Canada. All GDP says is that we can buy products it is no guarantee that businesses will set up shop in your area. Which is why American car parts are made in Canada and assembled in America. Its also the reason why you go to plenty of hospitals and see the bulk of the workforce being comprised of foreigners.

Having a high GDP does nothing for you unless you can utilize it effectively, otherwise it would be Nigeria that is Africa's tech hub and not Kenya. Google has a very big HQ in Nairobi, what does Nigeria have tech-wise? There is a big thread on SSC that talks about tech growth in Kenya.

Nigeria will be considered because of its size, but some investors will not bother because of the hassles to do business in Nigeria. Nigeria is winning on a technicality and not because there is actually improvement in the business sector to let FDI come in.

Ok so the choice is between being shot in the leg or being shot in the stomach. What a choice lipsrsealed

And why joke about something like that lipsrsealed lipsrsealed what happened in Plateau reflects negatively on all Nigerians.

I'm not for total censorship but the way certain threads are made for one purpose (to bash) and then immediately sent on the front page for maximum views says a lot about how this place is run. On some level if the owner ever wants to get to that next level things are going to have to be curtailed, controversy sells but the ironic thing is that few folks want their named tied to smut.

And your GDP argument only goes so far when the US has a higher GDP than Germany but Germany has a better economy. Things like cost of doing business (which includes health care, a good talent pool, and etc) matter. Once again Nigeria has a higher GDP than a lot of African countries but other places have better HDI and infrastructure which is why Kenya is becoming Africa's IT destination despite GDP.

You have all this money yet poorer states have a bigger talent pool. What will end happening is that they will use you as the base of opperation and hire the folks from outside with the skills. Something Nigeria is very familiar with.

Nigerian parties are all the same contrary to what some of you guys console yourselves into believing in. If they were any different you goqlks would not be falling over yourselves when either side builds basic amenities like roads, bridges, and etc.

Just because I like Igbo people doesn't mean I won't call a spade a spade.

I'm not tribalistic because never for one day have I said Igbo people are better than Yoruba people because they are Igbo. Or that Yoruba people are this and that.

You just saw someone said I was bitter because she thinks I wish to be Yoruba. I insulted her as a person and did not lump Yoruba people altogether with that jack.a.s.s.

You on the other hand lump all Igbo together and claim superiority on the basis of ethnicity. All the time.

Its not even the same.
