CrimeSuspected Fulani Herdsmen Invade Benue Communities, Slaughter 15 Persons by Creatorchris(op): 5:19pm On Sep 22, 2022
"The attackers stormed the villages between 11 pm and midnight of Wednesday, twelve people were killed at Mchia community and three people at Mou village with about 13 people injured,"  a local who did not want to be mentioned told Nigerian Tribune.

Suspected armed Fulani herdsmen have killed 15 persons in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State

The herders invaded two communities; Mchia village in Mbagber council ward and Mou village in Ukemberagya/Tswarev council ward in Logo at about 11:pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

The commissioner of police in the state, Wale Abass who confirmed the attacks said that 10 people were killed and eight injured.

Those murdered in Mchia are; Mr. Atsagba Oliver Chion, Mr. Mchivga Utume, Mr. Bemdoo Hindi, Mr. Aondonengen Kwaghwe, Mr. Shinku Ngimsho, Mr Gwa Joseph, Mr Vihishima Mbanomso, Mr Luter Yeke, Mr. Sonter Chieam, Mr. Aondosoo and two others.

The three people killed in Mou village are identified as Mr Lanem Dooior, Mr Iorungwa Andy Uchir and Emeka Ike (an Igbo trader)The herders also shot and injured other persons including Shaorga Akaaume, Ubugh Obele and Aondosoo Aondoakaa.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at NKST hospital Anyiin.

Meanwhile, the Member Representing Logo State Constituency in the Benue State House of Assembly, Hon. Kuranen Yagba has condemned in strong terms, the renewed attacks on some communities in his constituency by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.

Hon. Yagba who decried the renewed attacks on the armless farmers in Logo local government area says, the attack which is coming after the armed Fulani herdsmen had launched unprovoked attacks on many villages in Tombo council ward of Logo LGA, rendering many people displaced from their ancestral homes is not only unacceptable but wickedness of the highest order.

He wondered why the armed Fulani herdsmen would resort to killing of innocent lives even in their sleeps during raining season simply because they refused to give their farms for cattles to graze on and calls for adequate punishment of the perpetrators of such evil act by relevant security agencies.

He expressed worry that, at a time his constituents should be carrying out farming activities, they are been chased out of their farms and calls on the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to expedite action on putting an end to the continued killing of farmers across the country.

The Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts called on the army, mobile police men and other security operatives deployed to Logo local government area and Gaambe-Tiev in particular, to rise up to their responsibility and arrest the perpetrators of such evil act to face the wrath of the law.

He restates the resolve of the Benue State House of Assembly never to repeal the Benue State Open Grazing Prohibition law which has the full backing of the entire Benue People, urging the Fulani herdsmen grazing in Benue State to obey the Benue People's law for a peaceful coexistence.

Yagba condoled with the many families that have lost their love ones in the attacks and prayed God repose the departed souls.

SportsBayern Munich Football Club Reward Fan With Signed Jersey For Hacking Their Webs by Creatorchris(op): 5:12pm On Sep 22, 2022
Bayern Munich fan Daniel 'Ghost' Martins has been rewarded by the German Bundesliga champions after hacking into the club's website and revealing security flaws to the club.

Martins, an expert in information security, opted to check the website of his beloved side to 'somehow help the team'. He quickly found that there were configuration issues, and that confidential data including financial information was at risk of being exposed.

He reported his findings to the club, and after initially not receiving a response, he finally got a reply as Bayern thanked Martins by sending him a signed Thomas Muller shirt.

'As soon as I found the fault, immediately, at dawn, I made a report and sent it to them,' Martins told The Sun.

'They took a while to fix [it] and didn't even respond to me at first.

'But a journalist from Globo (Daniel Mundim) saw this fact and helped me get in touch with them. Successfully.

'They corrected it, and as a way of thanking me they sent me a shirt signed by the club's biggest idol, Thomas Muller.'

Martins then went into further detail on exactly what the issue was that he discovered.

'I explored, and found a vulnerability of the 'information disclosure' type, which roughly speaking is a kind of information leak due to bad configuration,' he added.

'Basically it occurs when a site unintentionally reveals confidential information to its users. Depending on the context, sites can leak all kinds of information to a potential attacker.'

PoliticsAyu And Tambuwal Had An ‘arrangement’ To Shortchange Wike – Jang by Creatorchris(op): 11:45am On Sep 22, 2022
Former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, had a “private arrangement” with Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state to shortchange Governor Nyesom Wike and other aspirants at the party presidential primary.

In a video obtained by Channels Television, Jang, an ally of Mr. Wike who spoke after a meeting led by Governor Wike in Port Harcourt, described Mr. Ayu as a “referee” who helped one of the sides to score a goal and blow the whistle afterward.

He said;

“For the National Chairman, Ayu, to go and embrace Aminu Tambuwal, calling him the hero of the convention which means there was a private arrangement that was done with Tambuwal to shortchange other contestants, including Governor Nyesom Wike.

“Here was a referee who now helped one of the sides to score a goal and then blew a whistle that a goal had been scored. This is not what we formed the PDP to do for Nigerians and therefore we unequivocally ask that Ayu has to step down.”

This is also coming after some members of the PDP, said to be loyalists of Governor Nyesom Wike, pulled out of Atiku Abubakar's presidential campaign.

They stated they won't have anything to do with the campaign until the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns to achieve a “regional balance”.

PoliticsCourt Order Won’t Stop Negotiation With ASUU, Says Ngige by Creatorchris(op): 11:24am On Sep 22, 2022
The Federal Government yesterday assured that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) directive to university teachers to resume strike would not stop it from continuing negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The government also said it would soon direct vice-chancellors of universities to reopen their institutions in compliance with the order.

Parents and students, however, differed on the court’s ruling, which the government said was a no-victor, no-vanquished decision.

While parents said the ruling was a welcome development, the students described it as a betrayal of equity.

ASUU, however, said it has a right to appeal the court’s directive.

The government on September 8 declared a trade dispute with ASUU and consequently headed to the NICN for an order stopping the over seven-month strike by lecturers.

When the case came up yesterday, Justice Polycarp Hamman, said he was invoking Section 18 of the Trade Dispute Act, which allows the NICN to order an end to the strike in the national interest.

Hamman held that it was necessary to end the strike because students have a right to education and protect the government from losing more to the work boycott.

“Students have been out of school for seven months in Nigeria, where age is a factor in employment,” he said, adding that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) bars graduates from 30 years from participating in youth service

“I, therefore, hold that the balance of convenience tilts in favour of granting the application.”

He then, proceeded to issue an order, restraining ASUU, “whether by themselves, members, agents, privies or howsoever called, from taking further steps and doing any act in continuance of the strike action, pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed.”

Hamman, who said he acted as the court’s vacation judge, explained that the case filed would be returned to the court’s President for reassignment after the vacation.

Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige, who also said that the ruling was in the nation’s best interest, added that ASUU members “should do the needful and get back to the classrooms.”

Ngige, who received members of the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) in his office in Abuja, added that “the government will order the vice-chancellors and pro-chancellors to reopen the universities in line with the court order.”

His words: “The ruling is in the best interest of the nation. It is a win-win situation for all of us- government, students, lecturers- all Nigerians indeed. I have just gotten the court order asking ASUU to go back to work. It is a sound judgment. It is no victor, no vanquished.

“You doctors in academics are for now members of ASUU, but, you are here, even though you have dissociated yourself and are working. We want to thank you for working and teaching your students.

“The court ruling does not preclude us from going on with further negotiation and consultations. The pro-chancellors met Mr. President and made some demands, such as topping up government offers and seeing whether there could be some bailout.

“Mr. President (Muhammadu Buhari) said in considering it, he will consult stakeholders. So, he is going to consult everybody.”

Ngige welcomed the intervention of the House of Representatives in the ASUU imbroglio, saying he was happy that the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, said the legislators were going to meet the President.

“If they have shown interest now, it is good and wonderful. When they bring that proposal, the Executive will not have any problem. ASUU should also know that this is a step in the right direction. And all these things have been promised by the Minister of Education (Adamu Adamu) at their last meeting with him.”

Industrial court’s decision not final, says ASUU

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke said the court’s ruling was not final.

“The beauty of the Nigerian legal system is that there are steps.

That ruling is the first step. There is the Appeal Court and there is the Supreme Court,” he told Channels Television Politics Today last night.

Osodeke described as unfortunate government’s decision to go to court while negotiations were ongoing.

The ASUU chairman said: “As a union of intellectuals, we will sit down with our lawyers to review the case, and then, we will take the next step. Definitely, the decision of the Industrial Court is not final.

“We are not bothered and emotional about the ruling of the court. The Judge has the right to make such order and we also have the right to appeal.”

On the reason the Judge gave for ordering lecturers to resume work, Osodeke asked: “Will this judgment solve the issues for which we are on strike?

“Even NANS saw the judgment as a black market judgment. The students for whom you say you are protecting are saying they don’t want it.”

Students, and parents differ on court order
Parents, under the aegis of the Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), expressed hope that ASUU would obey the court ruling.

NAPTAN described the judgment as ‘fair’, adding that the government had met 80 percent of the union’s demands.

”It is a welcome development. Hopefully, ASUU would obey the court order and won’t be lawbreakers. Parents are happy and I am sure the students are too. Our education sector and the system can now start functioning again after a long wait. We believe it is a fair judgment, there is a dispute and the court has ruled.

“Again, the Federal Government said it had met 80 percent of their demands. Meanwhile, ASUU should not dictate to the government. On other demands, under the collective bargaining, they should find a way to address them, “said its Deputy National President, Adeolu Ogunbanjo.

But the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) said that the NICN cannot force ASUU members back to the classrooms.

It added in a statement by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope, that rather than direct ASUU to return to the classroom, the court should have ordered the government to meet the demands of striking lecturers.

The statement reads: “As an association, we feel disturbed to read the news of the judgment because we believe that it betrays equity.

“Ordinarily, the Federal Government is not meant to have dragged ASUU to court. But, the fact that they had to drag ASUU to court signals that this government cannot handle the crisis.

“As it stands today, with that court judgment, we maintain that the court has not resolved the problem and we reject the ruling in strong terms. The court could have said that the Federal Government should go and pay rather than say that lecturers who are on strike should go back to classrooms.

“We were expecting the court to have understood that lecturers are on the contract of personal service, hence, they cannot be compelled to render a service they don’t want to render.

“The only remedy to this strike is for the Federal Government to accede to the demands of ASUU, which the government willingly entered into with them, and properly fund education.”

Also, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council, University of Abuja, Prof. Ahmed Mohammed, said the court order cannot resolve the tussle between ASUU and the government.

Mohammed, therefore, urged the two parties to embrace dialogue to find a lasting solution.

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has urged vice-chancellors of public universities to re-open their institutions CONUA, a splinter ASUU group, is not in agreement with the strike which began on February 14.

Its National Coordinator, Niyi Sunmonu said: “Since CONUA members have not been on strike, re-opening the universities will make it possible to duly continue to work and stem restiveness among students.

“Re-opening the universities will also facilitate the restoration of peace to the nation.’

Politics2023: Muslim-muslim Ticket Is Aimed To Dividing North – Babachir Lawal by Creatorchris(op): 11:03am On Sep 22, 2022
A former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) decision to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election is aimed at dividing the north.

Lawal said this on during an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday.

His comment comes hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the final list of presidential and national assembly candidates for the 2023 general election.

“The introduction of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the APC or same-faith ticket is a wicked plan to further create divisions within the north. We try as leaders of societies to live as brothers and sisters, but out of the blue, this demonic proposition just came out of the blue,” Lawal said.

“For all lovers of unity in this country, in the north in particular where we are most affected, this ticket must never succeed. And we will make sure we defeat it in such a resounding manner that nobody in his right senses will ever think about it again, at least in the near future for our political journey in Nigeria.

“So, we are set on it and we are determined to kill it. Our people are mobilized, and our people are ready for the election.

“I and Dogara alone aren’t the only ones involved in this. Indeed, we are leaders of groups of about 40 leading Christian politicians in the north. We started work on this years back when we suspected that if a Muslim emerges from the south as the candidate for any of the political parties, there is a risk of what has happened that will happen.

“Now, there are two issues here. First and foremost, we are politicians and our job is to win elections and form government. Second, when we looked at this ticket and decided principally, it excludes northern Christians from governance. It will not be wise for us to hand ourselves and exclude ourselves from the incoming government.

“So, while we plan that the same faith ticket of APC should fail, we also believe that we should align with one of the leading political parties that has the chance of winning.

“Our strategy is we will not just waste our votes because we want to protest the same faith ticket of APC. We will like to partner with another group that is more sensitive to the Nigerian situation and realizes that Nigeria needs harmony, unity, and peace.”

I don't like Buhu as much as you do, but he hasn't banned western education in the seven years he has been in power, nor did he do so when he was millitary ruler, and infact under Abacha supervised the PTF which funded education a whole lot.

But you are right...government won't honor the agreement...just like the PDP did not honor the 2009 agreement .....for the harsh and simple reason that there is not enough money to do so.

Both Government and ASUU are running away from the fact that if they want to raise funding for universites...either raise fees, or raise taxes. Or remove the fuel subsidy, or end tax waivers for Dangote and co...and raise the money from there.
This is why I fear for the next president of Nigeria.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the leadership of the House of Representatives on Tuesday reached the new agreement after four hours of meeting at the National Assembly in Abuja.

However, the agreement is subject to President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval.

Buhari is currently at the United Nations General Assembly meeting at the UN.

The President of ASUU, Emmanuel Osodeke led the Union to the meeting, while the Minister of State for Education, Goodluck Opiah represented the federal government.

After the closed-door session, Femi Gbajabiamila, who chaired the meeting announced that the meeting produced some agreements, however, he did not state the agreement reached.

He disclosed that the lawmakers will present the agreement to president Buhari upon his arrival, while ASUU is to do the same with their members.

“There were basically seven areas where ASUU has presented what we considered to be requisition for them to go back to strike. We have looked at the seven areas, we have more or less agreed on certain things.

“Once that is done, the leadership of this house will await the return of Mr President from the ongoing General Assembly. We will meet with Mr President. We will lay the agreement reached by the legislative arm of government. I am hopeful that Mr President will buy into the agreement and with that, I believe that this matter will be speedily brought to a close,” he said.

The lawmakers will on Thursday meet with National Information Technology Development Agency, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Auditor General for the Federation and National Salaries Incomes and wages Commission to discuss further.

PoliticsMinimum Wage: Nigerian Govt To Adjust Workers’ Salaries by Creatorchris(op): 4:38pm On Sep 20, 2022
The Nigerian Government has declared its intention to adjust workers’ salaries to meet the current realities in the country’s economy.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, stated this while speaking on Monday at the public presentation of the NLC of 40 publication titled, ” Contemporary History of Working Class Struggles” in Abuja.

Ngige said that the Federal Government was very much aware that the N30,000 National Minimum Wage had depreciated.

The minister said, “Yes the inflation has increased worldwide and it is not confined to Nigeria, that is why in many jurisdictions, it is an adjustment of wages right now

“We as the Nigerian government shall adjust in confirmative with what is happening in wages.

“More importantly, the 2019 National Minimum Wage Act, right now has a clause for the review, which we started then, I do not know whether it is due next year or 2024.

“But before then, the adjustment of wages will reflect what is happening in the economy, just as the government has started the adjustment with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), ‘’he said.

However, media men were barred from covering their activities at the plenary.

The legislators alongside their counterparts in the house of representatives had adjourned for recess on July 27.

About two weeks into the break, maintenance work commenced on the “white house”, the area known for accommodating the house of representatives and senate chambers.

Some reporters expressed concerns that only sketchy details would emanate from the session that was closed to a majority of them.

Court rules on PDP’s suit seeking disqualification of Tinubu, Peter Obi

A federal high court in Abuja has thrown out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suit, which was seeking the disqualification of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi.

The PDP had challenged the propriety of the substitution of the running mates for the APC and the Labour Party.

It prayed the court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prevent Tinubu and Obi from replacing their running mates with Kashim Shettima and Datti Baba-Ahmed respectively.

The party asked the court to declare that Tinubu and Obi be disqualified unless they contest alongside their previous running mates – Kabiru Masari and Doyin Okupe.

The PDP averred that the Electoral Act 2022 did not make provision for a “place holder” or temporary running mate.

The party also asked the court to determine if “by the combined interpretation of Section 142(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sections 29(1), 31, 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, the first defendant (INEC) can validly accept any change or substitution of the 4th (Masari) and 7th (Okupe) defendants as running mates of the 3rd (APC) and 6th (Labour Party) defendants”.

Those listed as first to seventh respondents in the case are INEC, APC, Tinubu, Masari, Labour Party, Obi and Okupe.

All the respondents in the suit challenged the jurisdiction of the court to entertain the matter.

Delivering judgment on Monday, Donatus Okorowo, the judge, held that the court lacked jurisdiction to preside over the suit.

He said the suit lacks merit, and it is an “abuse of court process”.

Consequently, the matter was dismissed
