The Osun State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection to the murder of a filling station manager.



The suspects confessed that they were paid the sum of N500,000 to kill the Mobil filling station manager in Osun State.



They are now being detained for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, murder, and membership in an unlawful society.

The five arrested suspects include Adamo Aliyu, 24 years, Damilola Kayode, aged 22 years, Yusuf Idris, 22 years, Odewumi Sodiq, 26 years and Adeshina Ayomide, 38 years.



Briefing journalists on behalf of Olawale Olokode, the Osun Police Commissioner on Thursday, September 14, at the Command headquarters, Osogbo, the Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola revealed that the gang members were nabbed after police personnel from Ikire Area Command received a distress call on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

Opalola said: "Upon a distress call/intelligence on 3/9/2022, that there was a robbery attack/operation at Koteyemu/Aku area of Ikire, the Police from Ikire Area Command in joint operation with the Civilian Joint Task force (Hunters and Forest Security Service, Osun State) swiftly moved to the area and arrested a suspected notorious Armed Robber one ADAMO ALIYU having robbed his victim.



"The Police not resting on their oars extended its investigation to some areas of Ikire where three cohorts of the principal suspect above (2-4) were picked up/arrested from their various hideouts within the town."



The police spokesperson also disclosed that when the case was transferred to the Anti-Cultism Unit for discreet investigation, the unit immediately swung into action and arrested the fifth suspect.

He said: "In the course of further investigation, the 1st suspect Adamo Aliyu made a confessional statement that on 28/08/2022 himself, Damilola Kayode, Yusuf Idiris, Odewumi Sodiq (1st to 4th Suspects) respectively conspired among themselves and killed the Mobil filling station manager, one Fatai Atanda Adigun ‘M’, aged 55yrs, along Ikire express road, in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State and carted away sum of N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira).



"On 2/09/2022 the same hoodlums suspected to be members of unlawful society also conspired among themselves again and robbed one Barr. Oyeyinka Musafau ‘M’ of Oke-Olufi Area, Ikire, Osun State and carted away his One Infinix Mobile Phone valued at N110,000 (One Hundred and Ten Thousand Naira) and some valuable items, value yet unknown.


"Also, sometime in the month of August, 2022, the 1st – 4th suspects and others at large robbed a cyclist and killed him in front of Irewole Local Government building along Ife/Ibadan Road, Ikire.



"They further robbed some traders along the university area, Ikire/Iwo Road, Ikire and carted away cash of N600,000 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira). They also robbed another cyclist and killed him while they carted away his motorcycle.



"1st – 4th suspects respectively alleged that the 5th suspect Adeshina Ayomide who was one of the staff of the Mobil Filling Station, was the one who sponsored them with the sum of N500,000 (Five hundred thousand naira) only in order to kill the Mobil Filling Station manager in Ikire, Osun State in order to cover up the fraud /misappropriation of the money amounted to the sum of N2, 170,000 (Two million, one hundred and seventy thousand naira) which he was involved sometimes in the year 2018."



Exhibits in their possession include axes, saw blade, spanner and other fabricated weapons.

The Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingiyadi, said the detention of the bandits’ negotiator, Tukur Mamu, would not stop the release of the remaining Abuja-Kaduna train victims.

Dingiyadi stated this on Thursday after the National Security Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the minister, there was no cause for alarm since other negotiators were involved in the release of other victims from the kidnappers.

Recall that Mamu had been leading the negotiation with the terrorists for the release of the Abuja-Kaduna train passengers kidnapped since March.

Mamu was arrested alongside his family members in Cario, the capital of Egypt, and later flown back to Nigeria.

Olabode George, a former deputy national chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, has stated that the party's Presidential Candidate and National Chairman cannot be from the same zone, and hence Iyorchia Ayu must quit as National Chairman.

George announced this during a news conference in Lagos on Thursday.



He demanded Ayu's resignation, saying that the current structure of the north occupying the presidency and national chairman seats could not last.

"In May of this year, we elected our presidential candidate in the form of Atiku Abubakar, leaving aside the concept of rotation as entrenched in our party's constitution in the cause of peace and unity," George remarked. Today, our National Chairman hails from the same geographical region as our presidential candidate.

"Some argue that there is nothing wrong with the current setup. Some claim that this occurred under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo's presidency, when the candidate and national chairman were both from the same zone.

"To be honest, there are significant contrasts between the circumstances then and now." Then there was the party's leader, who was a sitting president from the South at the time, and the candidate from the North.

"In addition, the National Chairman, Dr Ahmadu Ali, was on his way out at the time." We no longer have a sitting President from our party at Aso Villa, therefore that argument no longer holds water. We must quit playing games and becoming zombies.

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he received warm hospitality from the people of Imo State when he paid the state a visit on Tuesday, despite a threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against such.

The Peoples Democratic Party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, will launch legal fireworks in the Federal High Court in Abuja over the validity or otherwise of the primary election that produced Atiku.

Wike filed the complaint alongside a party chieftain, Chief Michael Newgent Ekamon.

The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said the 2023 presidential election is nobody’s turn and must not be by connection.

The Obi stated this on Monday while speaking at the Labour Party Leadership Retreat in Abuja.

The former Anambra State governor said next year’s Presidential election is nobody’s turn because it won’t be based on ethnicity or religion.

He promised to ensure that ideas generated at the retreat are followed to the latter by signing a performance agreement with the Nigerian Labour Congress to Obi insisted that since there was no place where Christians or Muslims buy things cheaper, Yoruba or Hausa have free light than others in the country. Therefore, the coming election is about character and competence, not anybody’s turn.

He said “We will do this retreat now, after the election we will do another one, the election next year will not be based on ethnicity, we have had it before, it would not be on religion.

“There is no place that Christians buy things cheaper, there is no place that Muslims buy things cheaper. It will not be by my turn, it is nobody’s turn. It must not be by connection. The election next year must be based on character and trust, it must be based on competence.”

He added, “If a leader is not stealing, and the family around him are not stealing we will reduce corruption by 70 per cent. I was Governor for eight years, there is nowhere money is missing.

“I am in this retreat to listen, let us put it in writing when we succeed, you must be around to say this is what we have agreed on. Even if we don’t achieve 100 per cent, we must have made sacrifices.”
