Why the Labour Party is not a social media party Comrade Arabambi Abayomi, the Labour Party's National Publicity Secretary, has revealed why the party is not a social media party. Arabambi said that over 22 million registered voters had expressed interest in the Party. He asserted this in Lagos, saying that the Labour Party will win the 2023 elections because Nigerians want change after the All Progressives Congress, APC, failed to satisfy their expectations. "We are not a social media political party," he explained. The folks leading our rallies around the country are human beings. We are the unusual political party that will shift our country from consumption to production. We have 22 million Nigerians with us right now, based on the number of support groups that have registered with their voter cards and phone numbers. "And we're anticipating more before the end of the year." Nigerians desire to change; they have been through a lot, and they know who they want to lead them. The movement is so large all throughout Nigeria because Peter Obi is the only pan-Nigeria candidate that the people trust. These are Nigerians requesting the constructive change." Speaking on who the Party's rightful governorship candidate in Lagos State is, he stated, "The emergence of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as the LP's 2023 Lagos state governorship candidate followed all necessary laws, regulations, and guidelines as provided in our Constitution, the Federal Republic of Nigeria's Constitution, and INEC guidelines." "Just to clear the air, Awamaridi was the head of the LP Lagos state Caretaker Committee at one point." He was designated as a placeholder for the governorship primary election, and his name was submitted as the governorship candidate because Lagos LP had not completed all of the necessary requirements. "Mr Ifagbemi Awamaridi's placeholder position was one from which he publicly submitted official resignation." Awamaridi's resignation letter was signed and offered willingly, voluntarily, and explicitly. Documents, of course, do not lie. "He is no longer our gubernatorial candidate," he continued. What do you think about this? The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyiocha Ayu has declared nobody, including Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, can force him to resign. He vowed he will see out his four-year mandate to run the PDP despite calls for his resignation by Wike and his supporters in the party. The PDP has been in embroiled in an internal crisis after Atiku picked Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate. The decision was considered a slap by the Wike’s camp, which has been holding series of meetings within and outside the country and dishing out conditions for settlement which include call for the national chairman’s resignation. Many of those calling for resignation, according to Ayu, were children when he and other chieftains laboured to form the PDP. Speaking in an interview on the Hausa service of BBC on Wednesday, Ayu argued the presidential candidacy of Atiku Abubakar does not in any way affect his position as the PDP National Chairman. In the interview monitored by The Nation in Kaduna, Ayu said even if the presidential candidate had come from Benue State, it would not have justified the call for his resignation. According to him: “I stood for election and I won the election and I am fixing the party, I have not stolen anything, I have not committed any offence, we will not allow one person to come and spoil the party for us with frivolous calls and conditions. “I was elected as PDP chairman for a four-year term and I am not up to one year. So the call for my resignation is uncalled for. The election of Abubakar Atiku as the PDP presidential candidate cannot affect my election as national chairman, even if the candidate is from Benue state, I stood for election and I was voted for by Nigerians”. When asked in specific terms the call by Wike’s camp’s call for his resignation among other conditions to support Atiku, he said: “All that he is doing does not affect me because I know I am fixing the party. I am doing my work diligently, I have not committed any offense. I have not stolen any money, so there is no reason for my resignation. ‘’When we started the PDP all those ones were children, they were not there, we will not allow one person to become a spoiler, this is our country, so all that is expected of us is to fix the country, provide security and dividends of democracy when we take over power in 2023.’’ |
'This fella is going to break every goalscoring record there is': Michael Owen and Gary Lineker lead the praise for Erling Haaland on social media as the rampant Man City striker powers home ANOTHER hat-trick in just 38 MINUTES against Nottingham Forest Erling Haaland has continued his incredible goalscoring form by netting a first-half hat-trick for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest. The Norway international has now scored nine league goals in his first five games for his new club, setting a new Premier League record in the process. In completing his hat-trick, Haaland has also broken the record for the most Premier League goals scored in August. Pep Guardiola's capture of the 22-year-old already looks like one of the best signings of the summer, with the striker adding a new dimension to an already dominant team. Haaland set social media alight with his record-breaking haul on Wednesday, with England goalscoring legends Michael Owen and Gary Lineker among many heaping praise on the former Borussia Dortmund star. Former Senate President Bukola Saraki believes the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would easily defeat the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State's governorship election next year. Senator Saraki based his confidence on the incumbent Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq-led administration's poor performance during the previous three years. Saraki, a former governor of the state, made the remarks over the weekend in Ilorin, the state capital, after meeting with a group of APC defectors led by one Kayode Ogunlowo, a loyalist of Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed. Saraki said that the 2019 otoge campaign was propaganda and a web of deceit meant to dupe Kwarans and "throw us out." "However, the Kwarans have learned their lessons the hard way. By the grace of God, I am convinced that the PDP will oust the APC from the Government House in 2023. "Your passion for Kwara informed your defection to the PDP today, and we will all work together for the state's progress." Babatunde Mohammed, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, has sided with his leader. He promised defectors a fair playing field in all of the party's actions in the state. "Residents of the state, both indigenous and non-indigenous, are now regretting having voted for the present government by mistake in 2019," he continued. In announcing their defection to the PDP, Ogunlowo stated that the APC, which he and others worked hard to enthrone in 2019, has been victimizing them. "The APC we fought so hard for in 2019 has not been able to repay our kind gesture," he said. Instead, the party led by Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq chose to poison the well. The governor decided to bring abuses against us. He chose to charge us in court and keep us in prison." "As I speak to you, the bulk of our members have been disenfranchised as a result of the voter registration and revalidation process." "That is why we chose to abandon APC and join the PDP." Egypt of yesterday is superior to Sudan of now. The present administration has produced no tangible results. Instead, it continues to accumulate debts without corresponding physical progress. "Thank goodness it's not too late. Now is the moment to get together and force Governor Abdulrazaq out of the Government House in 2023. Today, we are burning the brooms that represent poverty, instability, and bad governance." |

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called a complete, thorough, and indefinite strike, citing the Federal Government's apparent inability to address its requests directly. The union's leadership stated that the indefinite strike began at 12:01 a.m. on Monday. On Monday, ASUU made the decision at the end of an emergency National Executive Council meeting at the ASUU secretariat at the University of Abuja. "In light of the foregoing, and after thorough debates on the Government's reaction to the resolution of 14th February, 2022 thus far, NEC determined that the Union's requests had not been effectively met." "As a result, the NEC agreed to convert the roll-over strike to a comprehensive, entire, and indefinite strike action commencing at 12.01 a.m. on Monday, August 29th, 2022," ASUU said in a statement signed by its President, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday night in Abuja. The union stated that it will continue to work on the full execution of the December 23, 2020 Memorandum of Action for the rapid restoration of industrial peace in Nigeria's public institutions. It also stated that it was still open to sensible engagements, as it has always been. "NEC appreciated the previous and ongoing efforts of distinguished Nigerians and NGOs to intervene in the lingering dispute." "As we have always done, our Union is open to fair engagements." "However, ASUU remains committed to fully implementing the 23rd December, 2020 Memorandum of Action for the rapid restoration of industrial peace at Nigeria's public institutions," the union said in a statement. The ASUU NEC lamented that the union had been subjected to a high degree of deception over the previous five and a half years as the Federal Government engaged ASUU in unproductive and never-ending negotiations with no show of fidelity. The union, which expressed dissatisfaction with government agents, chastised Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, for willful untruth and manipulation of facts in order to score cheap political benefits. "It is disappointing to think that a Minister whose job it is to tackle the problem can turn around and lead in this ignoble business of misrepresenting facts and deceiving Nigerians overnight." "The Minister of Education's disdain for questions about the ongoing ASUU strike at his distasteful Press Conference on Thursday, 18th August, 2022 lends credence to the widespread suspicion that the current Government never believed in saving public universities from the misfortunes that have befallen Nigeria's public primary and secondary schools," ASUU said. "NEC noticed with sadness that the Union had undergone a lot of deception at the highest level in the previous five and a half years as the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) engaged ASUU in pointless and endless negotiation without a demonstration of absolute loyalty," the statement adds. In 2017,Under the presidency of Dr. Wale Babalakin, the Federal Government formed a committee to revise the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement. Dr. Babalakin was succeeded in December 2020 by Professor Emeritus Munzali Jibril, following three years of unsuccessful negotiations. In May 2021, the Renegotiation Committee drafted and submitted a draft agreement to the Federal Government. It is unfortunate that the Federal Government made no meaningful steps to sign the agreement or begin implementation until the 14th of February, 2022, when the continuing strike began. The Federal Government recreated the committee only after the strike began, with Professor Emeritus Nimi Briggs named Chairman to lead the Government Team. |

Riyad Mahrez scored a late penalty while Julian Alvarez got his first goal for the club as Pep Guardiola's side drew 3-3 with Barcelona in a friendly at the Nou Camp. Alvarez struck early after an error before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Frenkie de Jong scored to make it 2-1. Cole Palmer tapped home an equaliser but Memphis Depay turned in a cross to restore Barcelona's lead. Erling Haaland won a penalty deep in stoppage time, which Mahrez converted. The charity game had originally been scheduled for last summer but was postponed because of Covid restrictions on attendances. It had been organised to raise funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) awareness, in honour of former Barcelona player and coach Juan Carlos Unzue, who was diagnosed with the condition just over two years ago. Guardiola, whose side host Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, named a strong side for the game that included summer signing Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva, who is reportedly the subject of interest from Barcelona. Meanwhile, the Spanish giants started some of their summer recruits including ex-Leeds forward Raphinha, midfielder Franck Kessie and defender Jules Kounde, who has not yet been registered to play in La Liga because of wage cap restrictions. Depay's late strike had looked to have won the match, which was played in front of 91,062 spectators, but Mahrez equalised from the spot in the 10th minute of 11 minutes that had been added on following an injury to City's Luke Mbete.

Manchester United earned their first Premier League victory under Erik ten Hag with a 2-1 triumph over Liverpool, but the club's summer transfer business appears to be far from complete. Casemiro was introduced to fans at Old Trafford prior to the triumph, and the midfielder was a high-priced signing from Real Madrid. Ten Hag has also signed Ajax's Lisandro Martinez and Feyenoord's Tyrell Malacia this summer, while Christian Eriksen came on a free transfer. But, with the Dutch manager looking for further reinforcements and Cristiano Ronaldo's future seeming uncertain, who else may arrive in Manchester before the transfer window closes? Antony Ten Hag, who has previously recruited Martinez from Amsterdam, looks to be planning another attack on his old club Ajax. Antony, a young Brazilian winger, has been heavily connected with a transfer, with the youngster reportedly eager to join Manchester United. According to The Independent's Miguel Delaney, the 22-year-old has signed personal terms, but Manchester United must step up their efforts to persuade Ajax to part ways with Antony. De Jong, Frenkie Manchester United's summer pursuit of Frenkie de Jong appears to be continuing, with no deal in place for the Barcelona midfielder. Miguel Delaney, who worked under Ten Hag at Ajax, reported last month that De Jong wants to leave but is waiting for Barcelona to pay deferred wages as the Catalan club continues to struggle financially. As Karl Matchett writes, Barcelona may need to trade De Jong to make their weird summer of business work. Gakpo, Cody Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven is another Eredivisie player who has piqued Manchester United's interest in a Dutch-infused summer of recruiting. Another winger with tremendous promise, the 23-year-old might be a target even if the Antony deal is finalised, with Ten Hag searching for options in his attacking line. "There have been a lot of rumors for a long time," Van Nistelrooy stated of Gakpo-United ties. "It's evident that we'd like to keep Gakpo at PSV." Depay, Memphis Memphis Depay's initial tenure at Old Trafford did not go as planned, but could he be making a surprise return to Manchester? Another Barcelona exile, rumours in Spain have connected Manchester United with a bid for their former star, who may be available at a bargain. Despite Depay agreeing to renounce his contract and join Juventus on a free transfer, discussions with the Turin club are alleged to have stagnated, potentially opening the door for Manchester United to bring him back. Yann Sommer and Kevin Trapp Manchester United are looking for a backup goalkeeper to David de Gea, with Dean Henderson presently on loan at Nottingham Forest. Ten Hag is claimed to be concerned about the Spaniard's lack of ball-playing skills, with Bundesliga duo Kevin Trapp and Yann Sommer fitting the description as prospective replacements. Trapp of Eintracht Frankfurt and Sommer of Borussia Mönchengladbach, both 32, have plenty of top-level experience. Who could possibly leave? Cristiano Ronaldo has stated his intention to leave Manchester United only one season after returning to the club, but finding a fitting destination for the Portuguese striker has been difficult. Only Sporting, where Ronaldo began his career, has expressed serious interest, and the 37-year-old does not appear to want to return to the Primeira Liga at this point in his career. Eric Bailly, who is going for a physical at Marseille ahead of a loan agreement with the French club, is one player who is getting closer to leaving. Bailly's exit might be the start of a major defensive exodus at the club, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Phil Jones, and Axel Tuanzebe also available, according to The Telegraph. Wan-exit Bissaka's may force the signing of another full-back, with Barcelona's Sergino Dest being linked.

On Tuesday, Nigeria and the United States of America (USA) inked an agreement for the repatriation of $23,439,724 in recovered monies allegedly taken by late General Sani Abacha. The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, signed for Nigeria at the agreement signing event, while the US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, signed for her nation. Malami stated that the sum, dubbed "the Mecosta/Sani Mohammed assets (otherwise known as the Abacha Five)," will be used to pay the continuing building of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the Abuja-Kano road, and the second Niger bridge. He expressed optimism that other ongoing lawsuits, including "Bayelsa, Galactica, Blue Trust, and Seaborne assets," will be settled in Nigeria's favor. "You may recall that, since 2016, the FMOJ, the UK National Crime Agency (NCA), and the US Ministry of Justice (USDOJ) have been working closely with the FRN's legal counsel to resolve litigations pertaining to Abacha associated assets," Malami added. "Further to the parties' agreement, the UK High Court awarded the NCA a Registration and Recovery Order on July 28, 2021, which was sealed by the court on August 4, 2021." "The forfeited Mecosta/Sani assets were then transferred to the NCA, which held the sum of $23,439,724 on February 7, 2022, awaiting the implementation of the asset return agreement agreed upon between the FRN and the USA." "Following the court ruling, the FRN and the USA discussed and concluded the asset return agreement conditions." "It is worth noting that, in accordance with the terms of this agreement, Mr. President has already approved the funds to be used for the ongoing Presidential Development Infrastructural Funds (PIDF) projects, namely the Abuja-Kano Road, the Lagos-lbadan Express Way, and the Second Niger Bridge, all of which are overseen by the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority" (NSIA). "The President has delegated to my office the responsibility of ensuring that any foreign recoveries are publicly invested and monitored by civil society organizations in order to accomplish these three projects within the agreed-upon schedule." "As such, I would want to use this occasion to encourage the United States Government not to cease in its support for Nigeria's commitment to the prompt and transparent handling of repatriated assets." "As partners in the global effort to promote effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and against the backdrop of constrained economic resources, I urge you to support us in meeting these critical responsibilities of the FRN by collaborating with us to complete the projects already agreed upon under the 2020 tripartite agreement among Nigeria, the United States, and the Bailiwick of Jersey for the benefit of Nigeria and its citizens," Malami said. As part of its assistance for Nigeria's battle against corruption, the US Ambassador stated that her government chose to facilitate the return of plundered assets. She reaffirmed her country's commitment to ensuring that Nigeria's assets are used to benefit Nigerians. Leonard said that her government will continue to help efforts to reclaim the cash stolen from Nigeria. She encouraged Nigerian authorities to guarantee that the cash recovered be utilized to the three projects agreed upon by the parties. omo! se this morning no dey finish? join NaijaBet for politics betting. /306593

Erik ten Hag earned his first win as Manchester United manager on Monday, when his team defeated Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. United began the weekend at the bottom of the Premier League, but climbed above Liverpool on a huge night for their new Dutch boss. Liverpool's predicted championship campaign is fading rapidly, with Jurgen Klopp's side failed to win after three games. United fans began the evening by marching on Old Trafford in protest of the Glazer family's decade-long downfall as club owners, despite a social media campaign pushing supporters to boycott the game following an ugly 4-0 defeat at Brentford last weekend. Ten Hag made four changes after conceding four goals in 35 minutes against Brentford, including the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and captain Harry Maguire. After becoming the first United manager in more than a century to lose his first two games, the former Ajax manager received the reaction he wanted in an explosive first half hour that sent Liverpool reeling. After two passes from Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes sliced Liverpool wide open, Anthony Elanga curled off the base of the post and should have opened the scoring. Liverpool's dismal start to the season has been plagued by defensive disorganization, and they failed to heed their lesson after conceding the opening goal on 16 minutes. A wonderful one-two between Elanga and Christian Eriksen again freed up the Liverpool defense, and when the pass was cut back to Sancho, he left James Milner on the floor before slotting in calmly. Before the visitors were able to restore some order in the closing moments of the first half, Alisson Becker was forced to tip Eriksen's dipping free-kick over, but Liverpool's unwillingness to renew Klopp's midfield options will face additional criticism in the last days of the transfer season. With Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita out injured, Milner, 36, showed his age, and Klopp had few choices on the bench, with his new 64 million pound striker Darwin Nunez serving the first of a three-match punishment for getting sent off on his home debut. The lack of energy in Liverpool's midfield was exposed for United's second goal, as Jordan Henderson's bad touch gave possession to Anthony Martial, whose superb through-ball set Rashford free to score his first goal since January. One of the many challenges that Ten Hag still has ahead of him is restoring Rashford's trust. However, the England forward looked more like his old self, and only a superb stop from Alisson low to his left denied Rashford his second and United's third goal. Mohamed Salah's header set up a tense finish 10 minutes from time, but United summoned a steel seldom seen in recent seasons to see out the game and give their new manager a much-needed lift. The genuine strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the democratic right to be compensated for labor not performed may be about to begin. For the seasoned and glorious "strikers," who advance from triumph to victory, that is the "real deal"! Adamu Mallam The Federal Government will not pay ASUU for the almost six months they were on strike, announced Adamu, the reserved minister of education. Minister Adamu increased the stakes by claiming that all other university unions on strike had accepted settlement terms and were prepared to call back their members. Only ASUU objected, and there is no reward for getting it right: it wanted the government to consent to paying all of its members who were on strike in full, even if they had not taught anyone, in the past six months! But why isn’t anyone surprised? The minister asserted that "all contentious matters between the government and ASUU had been resolved," with the exception of the demand for payment of members' salaries for the duration of the strike, which President Buhari has categorically rejected. In a combative mindset, Minister Adamu declared: "The administration has decided not to pay the months in which no work was done. I believe that behavior like this should be punished," he said. "I believe teachers would hesitate before joining a strike. Government actions are not arbitrary. There is a provision that states that there will be no remuneration if there is no job. Naturally, ASUU's response has elicited the expected feelings. No serious country in the world treats its scholars the way Nigeria does, claimed Emmanuel Osodeke, the country's president. The federal government, he argued, "mandated the ongoing strike and pushed it to linger," therefore ASUU was not to be held responsible for the action. Oh, right! On behalf of ASUU, the government proclaimed the strike! To be fair, though, this is just the other side of the story, as the minister himself claimed that ASUU was foolish for frequently going on strike at the drop of a hat, despite the government's valiant efforts to support education with incredibly meager funds. Realistically, neither side is being honest. Source: the nation news. Join NaijaBet today for more political bet, football bet and many more Register: /306593

As an agreement with Aston Villa was reached, Man Utd submitted an £84 million transfer message. Manchester United supporters have responded to the report that Ismaila Sarr, a winger for Aston Villa, has reached an agreement on a transfer cost with Watford. On Sunday morning, it was reported that the Championship club had accepted Villa's offer of €25 million (£21.2 million) plus €3 million (£2.55 million) in add-ons. Sarr is now available for personal negotiations with Villa as Steven Gerrard attempts to make him the club's sixth acquisition of the summer. In the current transfer window, Sarr has also been connected with moves to Crystal Palace and Leeds United, with the two teams reportedly still showing interest in the 24-year-old. The winger had previously been associated with Manchester United, and a deal for him is rumored to have fallen through in 2020. However, it does appear that United has focused on Antony, an Ajax player. The Dutch club reportedly rejected a £67 million approach from the Red Devils, but they may come back with a better offer before the transfer window closes. Following news of Villa's acquisition of Sarr, Man United supporters have turned to social media to make a request of the team. Here are just a few of their comments.

Ivan Ilic is wanted by Paris Saint-Germain, exactly a year after Manchester City permitted him to sign with Hellas Verona for for £6 million. City has became extremely adept at acquiring young players and selling them on, sometimes before they have even appeared for Pep Guardiola's first squad. Ilic could now make a significant move after earning City millions in the transfer market last summer along with Jack Harrison, Lukas Nmecha, and Ilic. PARIS, SAINT-GERMAN WANT IVAN ILIC Just one year later, Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia writes that Paris Saint-Germain is attempting to sign Ilic. Ilic's agents may be in Milan trying to negotiate a contract with PSG for Ilic's future, according to rumors. According to Football Italia, City paid €3 million (£2.5 million) for Ilic before selling him to Hellas Verona for about €7.5 million (£6.3 million). Ilic, 21, managed just one goal and four assists in 32 games played in Serie A last season, but he still seems to have caught PSG's attention. In Italy, the Serbian midfielder made an impression as a playmaker and still has a lot of unrealized potential. Luis Campos, a new sporting director hired by PSG this summer, prefers to sign young players with potential over the big-name players PSG typically targets. You can turn at Gavn Bazunu, Pedro Porro, Ko Itakura, Darko Gyabi, and Romeo Lavia, who have all gone on for millions, only this summer. |
Haaland doing what he does best Erling Haaland was largely quiet for an hour, until he popped up to lash the ball high into the net and get City back in the game. The striker was in the right place to convert Rodri’s flick back from the byline, showing just how important he can be in poaching goals when City are in a sticky situation. Last season that’s the kind of chance City might have spurned, but not any more. Manchester City dropped their first points of the Premier League season on Sunday as they played out a six-goal thriller with Newcastle. Pep Guardiola's side took an early lead at St James' Park courtesy of an Ilkay Gundogan strike, but they had to battle back from 3-1 down in the second half to rescue a point. City were well below their best for much of the contest, with their defence looking alarmingly shaky and disorganised. There were positives to be had - such as a poacher's finish from Erling Haaland and some moments of brilliance from Kevin de Bruyne - but on the whole City will be frustrated. Here are some key moments from the game. The importance of being Ake Everything was going rather well for City until Nathan Ake went off through injury after 21 minutes. Ruben Dias replaced him and partnered John Stones, but City looked all over the place at the back from there on in. Stones looked like he hadn’t started a City game in months, while the telepathic partnership Dias and Stones developed in 2020/21 was sorely absent. Newcastle looked like scoring with each attack, with the two defenders not knowing when to drop and when to track runners. Hopefully Ake isn’t out for too long. Gundogan among the goals Ilkay Gundogan looks to be back to his goal-scoring form of 2020/21, his strike in Newcastle his second in two games. Pep has repeatedly praised the German’s ability to pop up in the box at exactly the right moment, and in the fifth minute he did just that to get on the end of Bernardo’s cross.Pep has repeatedly praised the German’s ability to pop up in the box at exactly the right moment, and in the fifth minute he did just that to get on the end of Bernardo’s cross.Bernardo and Stones return City eased to a 4-0 win against Bournemouth last weekend, but that didn't stop Guardiola from making two changes to his side. That's not entirely surprising, but the two changes Pep did make weren't the most predictable. The club insist they plan for Bernardo Silva to stay at City rather than pursuing a move to Barcelona, but the assumption was that he might come into midfield, not on the wing. Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake had been Guardiola's preferred centre-back pairing so far this season, but John Stones replaced the former to earn a first start of the campaign. Ake kept his spot, reflecting the fact that he's arguably been the Blues' best defender so far this season. Source: Manchester Evening News |
